The Michelin Inspectors’ Top Tips For Solo Dining

"An experienced service team in a restaurant will put a single diner facing into the room – no-one eating alone wants to be plonked in the middle of the room. If that happens, just simply tell them you’d be far more comfortable elsewhere." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

Food that punches far above its weight in the city. Delicious. Opted for a kitchen side counter and had a great time interacting with the chefs and servers. Probably the best carrot cake I've ever had.

Marveilleux! My party and I tried a number of dishes. Everything was amazing but the dishes that we really liked, we really really liked. Standouts: pate, lamb, carpaccio, and the catch of the day. And don't sleep on the oysters! Really cool spot in a cool neighborhood with great service. Vous devez y aller si vous êtes à la ville de Québec!

Went here for some personal celebrations with my best friend and we had an amazing experience. The ambience, food, and service were excellent. The portion was incredibly reasonable, compared to other high-end restaurants like this. I had the best carrot cake in my life - the winner of the meal.

Had a great experience at this restaurant for my birthday. We took the blind sharing deal (an amazing deal) and it helped us discover the talents of the kitchen staff. Food was amazing, wine as well and the service was A1. Quick, super nice and felt at home. Highly recommend.

One of the best meals I've had this year and my dining mates did too. We will have to come back for the Chef's Choice on a Tuesday or Wednesday on a future trip to Quebec City. Our group of three chose four appetizers, two starters, and two mains through our three-hour dinner which was served with two bottles of lovely Sardinian wine. Lovely and complex flavour profiles and beautifully presented dishes. This place will not disappoint. Fun, casual, but attentive service which made the evening all the more special. A return visit (and more) are in order.

Very good food and excellent presentation, but in all the dishes we found salt to be a dominant taste. Perhaps we had chosen the wrong dishes. Awesome cocktails though. Portions are small but ingredients are fresh. Service is quick and pleasant.

Google
What great value for delicious food and wine! Only $79 pp for 2 amuse bouche, 2 starters, and shared main and dessert with the Blind Menu. We always have a tasting menu (with wine pairings) whenever we can, as well as sit at the kitchen counter to watch the show - even though we don't speak French, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Our server chose great wines for pairing and frequently checked in with us (speaking English nicely). Excellent meal!

Yelp

Yelp
Wow! An amazing experience. Very good vibes on the ambiance, a terrific waiter and sumptuous food. You can easily walk by this restaurant and not know it. The menu is rather limited but that's a good thing because each dish is very carefully prepared. A limited menu means more focus by the chef. I had Octopus on a bed of cannelloni beans with cipollini onions and pancetta. It was excellent. My dining partner had the burrata served in a bed of cord with green onions and peas. Delicious! Get a side order of the potatoes. You will be glad you did. An all around 5 star experience.

Yelp
This restaurant is amazing. Drinks. Food. Service. All are geared towards making your dinner an experience. The boutique cocktails each have an amazing story behind them. If you are in Quebec city it is a must for foodies.

Yelp
We don't go very often to Quebec City but with COVID measures in place, it is a good opportunity to support Canadian chefs and businesses, isn't it? I had never heard of this restaurant before. Maybe because it's outside the city core. What a discovery! We will make sure to visit that restaurant more frequently. It's like a real gem hidden in the ground. Let's talk more about it. The entree, I choose, with the smoked mackerel mayonnaise, set the tone for a fantastic meal. The mix of boudin, celeriac, marinated onions and mayonnaise has everything to bring you to the seventh sky. This is what it did for us. For those who prefer something sweeter, the foie gras terrine with orange marmelade is also a fine choice. The crusted sweetbread was no less satisfying. The flank steak, that followed, surprisingly accompanied by a lobster bisque butter bringing another layer of saviour, worked pleasantly well with the beef. The two desserts on the current menu have to be shared, believe me! Even for someone who is not crazy about chocolate (it does exist!), the chocolate mousse is so light and fluffy that I would order it anytime. The other dessert, fresh strawberries and yoghurt mousse, was the right choice for me to end such a wonderful meal. The service was up to par. Don't hesitate asking any questions you may have about the dishes and/or the recipes! The wine list is a bit thin but offers nevertheless a good selection of white and red wines. Make sure, if you decide to go there, to book well ahead of time as capacity inside is limited.

Yelp
Incredible. Everything was truly delicious & beautifully prepared. Lovely service as well. We got the oysters, heirloom tomato salad and arancini for appetizers (not pictured). Arancini was our favourite of the bunch. Scallops with lobsters bisque and the flank steak were our mains paired with two cocktails. So good and for the cost, we were highly impressed. Beats out most restaurants in Vancouver

Yelp
I love to get away from the tourist areas when I visit Quebec and after reading reviews in several leading publications was looking forward to visiting. We were not disappointed. The vibe was both a little rough and upscale. The menu had something for everyone and was creatively prepared. That it was delicious goes without saying. The staff and the bar tender were both happy to talk about the restaurants creations. A very pleasant evening. It took a few minutes to get an Uber but the evening was pleasant and watching the neighborhood go by was a nice after dinner event.

Yelp
Found this restaurant close to the airbnb we stayed in. Went on a Friday night and we made a reservation in case it's busy, but you can probably get by without one. The service is superb, friendly, patient, and great explanation of the menu (they served us in English and have an English menu). We ordered two their gin cocktails, both are delicious and we went for a second round. For starters, we had foi gras, scallop, heirloom salad with duck ham. Foi gras is a much try, so is the scallop. For main course, I highly recommend their "catch of the day", ours was cod cooked with risotto with a little bit of sour taste. "Surf n' Turf" was delicious as well with octopus, tomato sauce. We also had the mushroom pasta and I really enjoyed it.

Yelp
The service was excellent - very attentive staff provide detailed explanations and recommendations. The food was delicious and original. My wife and I shared the blind tasting menu - crunchy fried cauliflower and cheese, local asparagus, foie gras, salmon, and our first time trying blood pudding, which blew us away with its savory flavor and unexpected texture. We will definitely come back and highly recommend.

Yelp
Simply my favorite spot in Québec. They don't take themselves seriously(as in snob) but they serve serious food! Every time I went, the food and service was A++. Never had the same thing twice. Food was alway perfect. Cocktail list changes regularly and so does the food menu. Make a reservation to secure your table. Bring a date there of treat your loved one on date night. Highly recommend that restaurent and their oyster bar next door.

Yelp
Favorite spot in Quebec City! Amazing food at very reasonable prices. Have been here 3 times over the past couple of years. Remi, current bartender is great and remembered us from a visit 8 months earlier. Spanish mackerel...blood sausage and amazing duck... and oysters!! Great cocktails and wine as well.

Yelp
One of my favorite places. Service is always perfect with great menu explanations. Waiters know their wine list and help you choose. Food quality is awesome, I only wish the menu was a bit larger.

Yelp
I stumbled on this place while wandering around the neighborhood without much of a plan. The atmosphere is fantastic, with these really cool industrial lights and other fixtures. The menu and wine list are outstanding. The wait staff was also extremely nice, even though my French is horrid at best. It's a little out of the way, but the trip is completely work it.

Yelp
My brother recommended this restaurant as it was close to our Airbnb in Limoilou, and he is a connoisseur of French food and cool spots. We were greeted by a very friendly host and the wait staff was super friendly and warm. They patiently explained the menu, which was filled with food we have never had before. Since we had our three kids with us we were a little nervous they wouldn't eat anything. We made them taste all the dishes and to our surprise they liked it (no kids menu but I appreciated that since kids shouldn't just eat pasta and chicken fingers!). The food was absolutely exquisite in taste and presentation. I wish I took pictures! We ordered two of the desserts even though we were quite full, and they were AMAZING - cherry cobbler, and a blueberry parfit. They also have a delicious looking cocktail menu. I just stuck with a beer I hadn't had before but would highly recommend - Bella Saison, and my husband had a sangria type drink. They gave my youngest a coloring book to keep her occupied, which was great. I would say it's more of an adult restaurant in food and atmosphere but families are certainly welcome. Overall the food is superb, the wait staff is super friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere is both warm and hip.

Yelp
Wonderful food. Foie gras exceptional. Server was very helpful on wine selection. Atmosphere was warm and inviting even though our French is almost non-existing.

Yelp
Tonight we had a wonderful meal at La Planque, Four of us went to celebrate our birthdays. Even before we entered the restaurant, we had a charming email from the owners commenting on making our birthdays special. While the atmosphere is not glamorous, the friendly service makes up for it. We started with glasses of wine, followed by appetizers. We shared the Blood pudding and Katy's Cucumber. Both were unique and tasty. The chef brought over 4 samplings of octopus ( I passed) which was lovely. For entrees, we had the Burratta which was made with a roasted tomato sauce, the cod which was cooked well, and the Surf and Turf, which was delicious. We shared a cheese plate, and had the strawberries in white chocolate sauce for dessert. The waitress brought us a birthday cake shaped platter with a candle and four peach jellies. All through the meal the service was friendly and attentive. Two of our party thought the portions for the entree and the cheese platter were small. However, everyone left satisfied. All the meals are made with local ingredients. We would highly recommend La Planque, especially if you want a dinner that is unique.
