Here we had one of the best meals of our stay in Zipolite. The service is very good and the food is delicious! We had cheese empanadas, cold beet soup, eggplant "a la veracruzana", steak in chichilo mole, and the coconut flan. Everything was freshly prepared and beautifully presented, and most importantly, very tasty. We'll be back!

My wife and I had a wonderful meal at La Providencia. We were actually their first guests after being closed for some time and they just reopened for summer. Our waiter was so friendly and funny and we enjoyed chatting with him. We also chatted with the head chef who was also quite charming. The food and drinks were delicious and I was able to try grasshopper for the first time. It was actually tasty with a nutty flavor. Both my wife and I had fish dishes which were perfectly cooked. I would recommend this place to anyone in the area.

Went for the reviews, stayed for the experience! The host was one of a kind. We arrived earlier than the reservation, and we were installed in this waiting lounge. We started with a great cocktail, took the time to order, and when we were placed at our table everything was on the way. The food was on point, the shrimp, the beef and the fish were great. The chef came to meet us, and we had a good laugh. Didn't get to try the famous mousse au chocolat, but hey, we won't complain about the only missing thing. I definitely recommend it.

Google
We heard do much about this place and it was as advertised! Great! The service tonight was a little slow but it was worth the wait. I think the owners dog was on site. With droopy feed me eyes. I did not! All in all the 6 awesome meals and appetizers were so good we will be back. It’s a short walk from the Main Street down a dark dusty road and when you reach the lit up boat you are so close to the best meal in Zipolite. I highly recommend you try this place and share with friends.

Google
It’s ok. The shrimp dishes were good but I was seeking something more fresh, zesty and scrumptious. The chocolate mousse on the other hand was another level. The setting is nice… but not as good as if it was on the beach

The Way We Saw It

The best in town! Javier and Paco run the place with elegance, style and character that give this place a smart and quirky feel, though no high heels here. The food is delicious and varied, the menu is international with a Mexican touch. Cocktails are great, wine selection is limited but fine. The music is perfect for the place, though sometimes street musicians occupy the scene. We went here many times and always had a great night.

Google
Best restaurant in Zipolite! We've had a great dinner here, appetizers, main dishes, deserts, cocktails. Everything was amazing. Paid around 500 pesos + tip for each for a full full full dinner.

Google
Excellent restaurant! In the middle of nowhere (not really, but feels like), surrounded by garden, cool interior, food was interesting and tasty, prepared and decorated with love. Could see that in the well organized open kitchen. all staff speaks proper English, super friendly. Called a taxi for us afterwards. Not cheap, compared to the other options, but makes absolutely sense!! worth every Peso. Something special!

Yelp
This place is super overpriced, wouldn't mind to pay if food is good, be prepared and bring salt and pepper, we got 3 dishes of the menu and they were all the same unflavored, guy next to me complaining about too much salt on a grilled fish, Come on people get your stuff together

Yelp
Best food on Zipolite. Reservations needed. Portions could be larger, but the food quality and service are superb.

Yelp
Just wow!! We felt very fortunate to snag a table here in our visit without a reservation, which is next to impossible. The owners have a little hidden gem in the woods on the outskirts of downtown zipolite. The service is impeccable and the food is remarkable and while you could say expensive for zipolite it is still beyond reasonable. I cannot wait to go back!!

Yelp
We came here for my boyfriends birthday dinner and it was pouring rain and the power went out but it still turned out to be a great meal. Javier went out of his way with umbrellas and lights and chef Paco came out to say hello. Very nice staff, delicious food, honestly couldn't get a solid feel for the ambience because it was dark but we will not hesitate to go back!

Yelp
Like a culinary oasis in a coastal desert, this is the place that gets my vote for "best restaurant" in this small, remote little coastal region tucked away on the coast of Oaxaca. The atmosphere of the restaurant is beautiful, the service was gracious and on point. Cocktails were delicious, and the food was really good. The quality of food at this restaurant was by far, the best we encountered in this area. I had a Tlapeno sopa, delicious, a Chile relleno that was executed to crispy perfection full of 3 types of Oaxacan cheese. Others in our party had great steak, fresh Dorado, grilled, coconut crusted shrimp with mango salsa and several desserts that were equally fabulous. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
I had a reservation for New Years Eve which was also my husband's birthday and I wanted to do something special for it. I made the reservation via email with a two possible four top. I received a response "Ok! That's great. We'll do. Thanks !" from Javier. I decided on 12/30 while in Zipolite to stop by the restaurant to confirm my reservation and a special dessert. I was greeted by a man who seemed to be disturbed by my presence and proceeded to yell at me "NO" every time I ask him about my reservation. I told him I had confirmed via email my reservation for 4 and he said "NO!, only 2!" I told that was ok, since he lost his mind over it. Then I ask for something special for the dessert and he said condescending that maybe he can " put a little candle or something." This whole interaction left a bad taste in my mouth. I decided to check somewhere else (El Alquimista) which was very accommodating to my request. I am so thankful I didn't waste my money over at La Providencia. I found out from my host of my AirBnb that it was the head chef/co-owner/boyfriend of restaurant who I was being yelled at by. The restaurant is not that fancy for the attitude I received. The restaurant itself is on a corner of a dusty dirt road with lots of cars driving by. The space is kind of run down itself and loaded with mosquitoes, sewage smell and no where near the beach. I had a wonderful New Year's Eve celebration with my husband and two friends at El Alquimista on the beach with an amazing 4 course meal. It was a celebration to remember. I did bother canceling my reservation with La Providencia due to the ridiculous rude treatment from the chef/co owner. Hopefully Javier the co-owner will read this and correct this attitude and treatment for future customers.

Yelp
Try the salad with grasshoppers. Seriously. Good protein and not at all gross. Tasty salad well plated!

Yelp
The closest to high end restaurant in Zipolite. Food is excellent and fresh, impressive menu, and everything is made to perfection. And like everything else here, inexpensive. The black bean and the beat soups are both yummy. The steak was one of the best I had. Great complements for the shrimp and fish dishes from my friends. Tip: make a reservations

Yelp
First and foremost, this place gave my partner food poisoning and ruined our last day in Zipolite. She ate the fish cake appetizer thing and we are sure that's what made her sick. Vomited for 24 hours. Everyone says this is the best place in town but even before she was sick we were underwhelmed. Slow service and gross food. My coconut shrimp seemed like it was from Long John Silvers and her Mahi tasted rancid. Also, not sure what the child labor laws are like here but a boy under 12 was definitely serving us and busing our table.

Yelp
Diego Miyako Isabela, my partner and I had to marinate in Puerto Angel and Zipolite for 2.5 days to be prepare for an exquisite dining experience at La Providencia! Seems appropriate given we are from the Providence RI area! This fine establishment is a wonderful combination of native coastal Oaxacan exotic and a fine personal aesthetic of Javier and his Chef partner. Service was overall impeccable thought we were made to wait longer than necessary for the check. Our appetizers were all delicious. Shrimp Empanadas were delightful, as was the Escabeche and Stuffed Chiles. The main courses also hit the mark. I had the pescado tamarindo. 4.75. Excellent! Diego had the pescado chipotle. 4.0 Miyako had the Coconut Shrimp 4.5 Isabela had another fish dish which she rated 4.25 and my partner gave her fish Chipotle 4.5. Then we had desserts 2 chocolate cakes. One coconut flan. One Chocolate mouse and a mango mouse. All delicious. Overall we rate it a 4.5 dining experience. When Zipolite do fine at La Providencia as I'm sure Javier and his team will treat many of your senses. Most of all you taste. Salud!!

Yelp
Simply the best! Definitely our favourite spot for dining in Zipolite and surrounding area. Such delicious meals at very reasonable prices. Javier and Paco are your hosts and the service is superb. As for the atmosphere... eclectic and marvellous. You simply must go!

Yelp
Amazing food, great atmosphere. Everything was amazing, The staff was incredible and we met and spoke to the Chef. I have never had tuna like that in my life. The presentation was so pretty. The Goat cheese turnovers/empanadas were like heaven in our mouths. Very inxpensive

Yelp
I was pleased after all the reviews negative and positive, to have a great meal here. Service was polite and expedient. The app I had was shrimp stuffed chilis perfectly spiced. The tuna encrusted with peppercorn was amazingly fresh and delicious. I was too full for dessert and really needed a nice long walk on the beach. Definitely worth the price although, by US standards very affordable.

Yelp
The two of us popped in without a reservation on a Sunday evening. Xavier and crew sat us at a great table, and we had a marvelous meal. We started with cream of chayote squash soup which was light and flavorful. Our meals of tuna were outstanding and perfectly cooked. Service? Amazing. With the host speaking impeccable English, it's easy to order just what you want- they not only do gluten free, they do it artistically and with great flavor. We have reservations for Friday night! Don't miss this place, it's easily the best restaurant in Zipolite, and well worth the trouble to find. Inexpensive, too: dinner for two, with a good tip, was less than $40 US.

Yelp
This place deserves 10 stars. I have eaten all over Mexico and La Providencia leaves you with a party in your mouth and service that gives you a smile in your soul. The best dinner you will have along the costa chica. Mexican fusion at it's best!

Yelp
Terrific food. Interesting, eclectic setting (and music). Xavier is a consummate host. The chayote soup and the tuna with chili chutney are highly recommended.

Yelp
By far the finest food and dining experience anywhere on the Southern Pacific Coast of Mexico!

Yelp
I have been a customer at LaProvidencia in Zipolite on many of my frequent trips to Mexico. I love and seek out good food in my home town of NYC and LaProvidencia is a MUST GO TO when visiting this area. LaProvidencia creates a beautiful, elegant, and artistic atmosphere for dining and offer a multi-faceted and creative take on some of the best local ingredients. Don't forget to make your reservation when planning on dinning there.
