Saturday night in Brive la Gaillarde. We wanted a French restaurant, and La Petite Cocotte was our choice, without a reservation.
The meal is designed to have sharing plates, similar to a tapas bar. The house special sangria with apricot juice entertained our noses and palettes until our food arrived. We started with the zucchini fritters. They were lightly breaded and fried, but the house-made tzatziki was very good. We followed with 3 mains: limousin beef tartare (with French bread); sautéed chickpeas with roasted cauliflower and avocado with a tahini sauce; and my absolute favourite, duck tataki with orange. I will eat here again just to have the duck, but everything was delicious! We finished with chocolate lava cake (semi cooked chocolate) with ice cream, with coffees to finish.
The staff were friendly, helpful to English speakers, and very attentive. Overall, the best meal of our current travels.
