What a beautiful place ! It's quiet, there's a lot of wildlife around, a platform to watch birds. The owners are so kind they deserve a 6th star on the review ! I 100% recommend to spend at least a night there ! Thanks again for everything ! I'll come back :)

What a wonderfully peaceful retreat from the city hustle so near to Golfito. Feel so fortunate to be here for our overnight stay. Beautiful garden and nature, very content animals around the house whether it be dogs, cats, chicken, geese, all so very well cared for (ok animal lover speaking yes). Wildlife including squirrel monkeys one can watch right from the lodging. The palm fetched hut is a sweet breakfast spot, the fresh fruit, bread, happy eggs, butter, jam, juice and coffee taste double great here. The room we had had unheated water shower in bathroom, ceiling fan, was very clean. Friendly people created a near sanctuary like atmosphere for those who seek it out.

Went here more because it's not located in town, looking for a place that had some birds n animals for our parents. ||Lodge is pretty basic but no matter to us. Squirrel Monkeys everywhere and parents loved them. I liked the spring fed pool, a tad dirty with leaves that could be taken out but refreshing. Walter is a good host. Room basic, ceiling fan and screened windows, should be cool enough to sleep. Internet connection was adequate. Wife n Mom did not like the no hot water shower though. OK saw that on web site so no surprise and refreshing for me. Sleeping, my biggest issue was the truck noise on the nearby road and the dogs barking. Can't do too much about either but annoying! Looking for a nice quiet place to enjoy nature.||Fair price so can't complain too much||Breakfast was a tad sparse for 6$

The owner, picking up on my interest in wildlife, actually came to get me soon after dark, to let me know of a beautiful snake at the gazebo. Parruja offers a delicious breakfast, accompanied by an adorable troope of squirrel monkeys that visit on a daily basis. The owner of the lodge even went as far as to give me a free ride into town for a bus, so as to save the cost of a taxi. Highly recommend!!

Walter & Rosie were great host in every sense of the word. My family and I checked in late and were hungry but the entryway to the lodge proved to be a bit challenging for the Hyundai Accent I was driving so I decided not to take any chances at night with the rental, Walter caught wind of this and offered to drive me into town which was about a 10min commute, to buy food and any other essentials which saved the evening. As is at times common in these beach towns, there was no hot water in the room which truthfully was not a problem with the climate it was quite soothing but nonetheless before breakfast Walter asked if I needed some hot water for my 5 year old son, which wasn't necessary but greatly appreciated. The complimentary breakfast is 100% authentic Costa Rican cuisine and quite tasty. If renting a vehicle to come here, I recommend 4x4 options.

The owner is really really really Nice. We Had an amazing stay here.|We have camp in this huge and really well maintained garden and we have also taken cabins. Both were really great. We have seen some Tucans in the garden, many other birds, the swimming pool is perfect, there is nice place to cook with some hammocks and a pool game. |A perfect place to stay for one night, one week, one month ^^

As we arrived Walter (the owner) came out to greet us. As noted in another review the check-in was informal. His garden like grounds and our room were immaculate! It's obvious he cares very much about his lodge. We were shown around the property and noticed wildlife everywhere. There was a beautiful pool in a secluded area, as well as a pool table and BBQ for his guests. Walter recommended a small restaurant directly across the road from the lodge which had a great menu as well as a delightful proprietor. Not in town proper, but quiet and worth three times what he charges. We'll be back for another visit.

Stayed for the 2nd time at La Purruja Lodge. It was another great stay, Only able to stay one night but the room was comfortable and grounds are beautiful. Breakfast was very good. As in our 1st stay we saw @ 40 squirrel monkeys feeding within mere meters. Host were very nice. La Purruja Lodge is a great place to stay for birds and monkeys.
