La Régalido (Fontvieille, French Riviera / Provence) 1 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Finding a quaint medieval village in the south of France isn’t the world’s most difficult task; spend a day pottering around Provence and you’ll probably cruise through a dozen of them. When it comes time to settle in for the night, though, the town of Fontvieille has a great deal to recommend it, including the 23-room La Régalido behind the ancient walls of its city center. Located a few minutes from both the dizzying stone cliffs of Les Baux-de-Provence and the town of Arles, this hotel is a convenient midpoint between the stark isolation of the former and the UNESCO-sanctioned, Van Gogh–approved touristing of the latter." - Tablet Hotels

Quiet boutique hotel. Lobby is beautifully appointed. Room was just ok, grounds look nice from a distance but are not particularly well maintained or usable. Didn’t really live up to the photos or 4-star rating.

Atmosphere, staff and service were all excellent and worth the 4 stars. Breakfast is decent in quality although limited in choice. The croissants and pain chocolat are excellent but the bread was not something to look forward to to say the least. Despite being in the “citrus” area of France, the orange juice they provide is very disappointingly not fresh but from a carton or possible even defrosted concentrate. ||||In general : this hotel has a superficial shell that in the detail fails for a 4 star hotel. The rooms are superficially renovated and not always with the best materials or fittings (ceiling canopy hanging loose in bathroom, cheap looking bedside lights). The triple has a rusted bathroom heating, no electricity plug, a partly clogged tap filter causing the water to splash. The moveable glass bath screen has an opening of at least 5 millimeters at the bottom so water seeps through the screen and bath edge leading to flooding EVERY shower and bath. The windows have not been renovated and paint is wearing off. The hotel had a no cold water problem for 3 of the 4 days we were staying there (even the toilets were flushing with lukewarm to warm water). We had the impression only because we repeatedly signalled it they asked a plumber to come and solve it. So the last night we finally had cold water. They did not tell any of the guests upon arrival certainly not us. Although the actually quite small swimming pool was supposed to be available in April they claim it was (still) undergoing a 4 to 5 day cleaning programme so we could not use it. The room cleaning was good but very erratic : the water bottle was not provided 2 out of the 4 nights. Toilet paper was forgotten once. ||The water bottle seems unimportant but one of the staff said : well if the water from the tap is warm in stead of cold : you can drink from the bottles we provide …. There is some irony there. We used the jacuzzi once which is nice but we would charge 15 per room and not per person. Despite all these not unimportant issues you do not want to be confronted to when you are staying 4 nights in 4 star hotel while the weather outside was very nice they did not make any commercial gesture.

When we arrived the receptionist wasn’t polite or friendly - there was maintenance works being carried out so we couldn’t hear her well above the noise as she wasn’t looking at us when she spoke. She was instantly abrupt when I politely said pardon! The parking is an additional charge of 20 euro a night and the breakfast 25 euro per person. That seemed high so we parked locally and won’t be having breakfast! There was No offer to help with luggage. The room is tired and the roof terrace attached to the room which we found by accident as it’s not obvious is shabby and needs paint and the plants are half dead. Not sure why it’s 4 stars or why it’s called a spa hotel as there are no spa facilities here at all. We are here in April so it is off season but even so. The room is large and the bed is comfortable and its very central.

While the grounds are lovely, the hotel room had issues, including a missing in-room safe, that baffled the hotel staff. They could not understand where it had gone. While the rooms were large, the paint was peeling the bathroom walls, and there were a few steps from the bedroom to the bathroom, so you had to deal with levels. The door key took a lot of work to operate. We decided to forgo their breakfast, about 25 euros a person (which seems high based on our recent trip), and walk into town—to enjoy some fresh baked goods and coffee elsewhere. They have a pool that offers a refreshing dip on a hot day.

For a 4-star hotel, I expected better service and amenities. The standard room is very small. There was nowhere to place the luggage and only one chair for sitting. We also had a view of the parking lot. If you want to stay here, I suggest you upgrade your room. The breakfast €23 and quite limited for the price. The hotel is located in a nice village which is located well for exploring more of the south and the outside areas are very nice with a lot of places to lounge. However, the pool did not look very clean.

A cute accommodation in magical land to explore the beautiful countryside that Provence presents. We chose La Regalido in Fontvielle as we couldnt get reasonable accommodation in Saint Remy where we wanted to base ourselves for our week long visit to Provence. The hotel is a bit difficult to find with myriad of one-way streets around the hotel but once you park at the dedicated spot and get to the hotel, you enter an oasis. We had a large room - and the bathroom equally spacious - but the WC is separately located. This was a bit inconvenient - but we took that on stride. The bed was large and comfortable - pillows great too. The restaurant in-house was pricey but served authentic french three course meal which was magnificent. We decided to have breakfast outside the hotel but there are limited choices in Fontvielle - so it will be better to have the breakfast in-house overlooking the pool and the garden. Unfortunately the spa was not working when we arrived - so the hotel allowed us complimentary parking in lieu which otherwise would cost 20 euros a night. The reception staff were courtious and we had a fantastic stay. Given a choice - I would still stay in Saint Remy simply because of better choice of food and restaurants - but La Regalide is a comfortable and nice accommodation to explore Provence.

Clearly not enough employees at reception & other services (breakfast, kitchen etc.). No male employees available to carry heavy suitcases up to the 3rd level room upon arrival, and down again at departure. Why is the restaurant closed? However, the few employees they have try very hard to do their best and to keep smiling. If they had enough employees, we would give a top overall grade.
