My husband suggested we stay at La Rosa for our Wedding Anniversary and we were not disappointed. We stayed in the Arabesque room (2nd floor). |Unfortunately my satnav decided to guide us into Whitby/the hotel by trying to take me down a ‘No left turn’ route & then ‘a dead end’ road and thanks to new asphalt/construction on the road coming in I’d gotten a chip in the windshield (luckily on inspection it’s a small surface scratch which didn’t render the car unsafe to drive) but it meant when I got to the road the La Rosa is on and struggled to find a parking space I’d gotten a little stressed! |I went to reception (as I’d emailed in advance as we came into Whitby earlier than our check-in time to pick up the £5 parking permit for the W Disc Zone) & was visibly upset so the lovely hotel staff took me into the Library, sat me on a settee & offered me a glass of water before they even knew I was actually staying in their splendid hotel! After getting a cuddle from their dog Jonathan & calming down I thanked both staff. We came back later to ‘check in’ and they checked if I was doing better.|The Arabesque room has a massive comfortable 4 poster bed & an opulent bath which is perfect for a relaxing soak after walking around Whitby. The complimentary soaps & bubble bath smell divine. |We were given a choice of breakfast down in the dining area or in our room & we opted for it in our room. Again the staff went above and beyond providing me with both a cafetière & coffee bags as I’m a big coffee drinker and we were gifted with a bottle of Prosecco and a Card on our wedding anniversary. |We pre-booked one evening for cocktails in the library and we were not disappointed. It was a fantastic experience to sit amongst the interesting/quirky objects listening to jazz/blues whilst sipping expertly mixed drinks. |This was the best stay we’ve ever had in any hotel and we did not want to leave!

Fantastic hotel with beautiful views over the harbour and Whitby Abbey.|We stayed in The Stoker room which was amazing, I loved it. |Central for everything in Whitby. |Waking up to the sunrise from the bed over Whitby Abbey is beautiful. |Lovely breakfast served in your room, or you can eat in the breakfast room. |After a full day exploring, a relax in the huge roll top bath with the bubble bath supplied is luxurious. |Bed was very comfy. We stayed for 2 nights and slept very well.|Can't fault this hotel, one of the best we have stayed in.|Not your traditional, boring hotel room. If you are looking for something a bit different, the room is spectacular.

I had such an amazing stay at La Rosa Hotel in Whitby! From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly welcoming—honestly, all three of them were just amazing. They went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect and created such a warm atmosphere that it felt more like a home than a hotel or B&B. ||The hotel itself has such a cool, quirky vibe—it really captures the charm of Whitby’s seaside atmosphere. The breakfast was definitely a highlight—so tasty and filling, it set me up perfectly for the day ahead. Everything about the place feels thoughtful, from the comfy rooms to the fantastic hospitality. I can’t wait to go back and enjoy it all over again!|We stayed in the arabesque room and that was amazing as it was, we will definitely be trying the other rooms!

An easy five star review. This quirky, and fiercely independent hotel was our home from home during a weekend in Whitby. The staff are extremely friendly, the owners incredibly helpful and charming - with a cracking sense of humour. It’s so nice to stay in a hotel with style and taste vs the bland and indentikit places that are so frequently on offer. The buffet breakfast was served on antique plates in a room with a stunning view. Vegans very well catered for with advance notice. Freshly laid leopard print carpet set the tone - this is a place of fun and hedonism. In keeping with this, rooms don’t have TVs, but there is speedy WiFi throughout. We’ll be back in a heartbeat. Thanks for making our weekend extra special ❤️

I love a unique hotel experience and this find was epitome of unique. The La Rosa from, entrance lounges and rooms is like a tribute to ephemera before the advent of jet travel. Staying here is a great compliment to the charms of Whitby.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with exceptional warmth and care by the lovely Helen, Rob, and Iona. I had booked La Rosa for a themed, joint birthday celebration with a group of my closest friends, and from start to finish, they couldn't do enough to ensure that everything was perfect. They tailored a fully vegan banquet for us, and provided thoughtful vegan alternatives for breakfast. Iona's expertly mixed cocktails even included vegan cream. The dinner, cooked by Rob, was delicious and plentiful, from the pani puri amuse-bouche to the pistachio kulfi with spiced warm pineapple.||We all stayed overnight, and had a lot of fun exploring each other's rooms, every one a treasure trove, brimming with lovingly selected curios, collectibles and oddities. The entire hotel feels like a love letter to faded glamour, with a generous helping of spooky Victoriana woven throughout. With no TVs to break the spell, the atmosphere is immersive, transporting you to another time. The tearoom and the cocktail library are museums in miniature: offering a glimpse into a decadent age where more was definitely more. At La Rosa, everywhere your eyes fall there is something delightful or intriguing to look at. It was such a privilege to be able to make these spaces our own for an evening of glamour, cocktails, and utter escapism. ||This is a hotel for creatives, dreamers and the endlessly curious. It's for people who easily glimpse the ghosts of residents past around every corner. We all fell under its spell and can’t wait to return.

Yelp
"Victorian Seaside Fun" Every one of those words is true for this hotel. I whisked the lover off for a 6 month anniversary jaunt and wow! just wow! The first thing that you notice as you pull up to the hotel are the incredible views. Situated on East Terrace, Whitby is below you, with the Shambles and the Abbey on the other side of the harbour. It may seem like miles away but really is only a 5 minute walk downhill (a bit longer on the way back up!!). La Rosa is fantastic, from the intoxicating smell of lavender and honey as you walk through the door to the inordinate amount of Victorian "stuff" everywhere. You can't help but stand in awe and stare at everything. Quite literally awesome! Although not overwhelming and not like an aged relative's house. We were a bit late for the afternoon tea, but I've heard good things. Each room is done up to a different theme that you can see on the website. we stayed in "La Rosa" which was just beautiful and romantic. Very comfortable bed, massive mirrors and a red bathroom with roll-top bath (with lots of hot water) and the same views (but higher) of the Abbey to top off an incredible room! The people that run this place are lovely and fun and I just want to hug. Dogs are allowed, although not advertised, so The Count got a lovely warm welcome too! They also have a caravan park north of Whitby that i am dying to go to. each caravan has a different theme...sounds just as kitsch and fab as this place! Not ont he cheap side, but if you have the opportunity... GO!

Yelp
I was in Whitby with my mother and my sister and brother in law for a weekend break. However the ladies really wanted to stay at La Rosa, but they only had 1 room available,,, so me and my brother in law stayed at a different hotel nearby. We had a great weekend and on the Sunday me and my brother in law checked out of our hotel and decided to go see the girls and go look a their room as they were saying it was nice, and help with the bags. Anyway, we got to Las Rosa and I explained that we were waiting for my mother and sister and that I had heard good things about the rooms. The receptionist murmured a quiet "ohh" and I asked if I could go have a quick look at the room and to help my mother with her bags.I can only assume the receptionist didn't like the look of me as she said very arrogantly "no I am not prepared to allow you walk around in the hotel" I said "but I just want to help my mother" She replied.. "well I'm sorry". I said "oh ok, but if I wanted to book a room would you allow me to see it" This somehow enraged the "ample" receptionist as she said "Can you get out please get out now" I WAS SHOCKED!! I have never experienced such rudeness :o I can only assume she is the manager as NO ONE would employ such a rude receptionist.. SURELY?? It is NOT in my character to make complaints, but I felt it is only fair to give people fair warning and an honest account.
