What happened to La Rosa? Used to be the best Chicago style thin crust pizza in the area. Not sure happened last night but just not the same pizza. To make matters worse , we received the wrong pizza. And the pizza was burned. When we called to correct it, we were told someone would deliver us a correct pizza. (We picked up the original one.) A few minutes later I received a call saying it was Door dashes problem and they could not deliver it. We never used Door dash! We ordered from the La Rosa website as we have done for many years. And we picked it up. We picked up the second pizza but it was just not good. Definitely not the same LaRosa. Not sure what is happening. New owners? Just bad pizza and service.

18$ for a Beef w/Cheese is insanity... Maybe 13/14/15 bucks but 18 DOLLARS?? Wasnt even good.felt robbed should of canceled I won't be back ever again

This place is great. Meat lovers pizza was phenomenal. Will definitely order again! Idk why some reviews on here are so critical this is some fantastic pizza

Google
I thought there might be new owners, and apparently, there are, unfortunately. Just doesn't taste the same for some reason. The food used to be easy to swallow, but now with the higher prices it's a bit harder, especially when it just doesn't taste the same. If the new owner is the guy I think it is, he certainly doesn't acknowledge people when they walk in to spend their money in his place. You're in our neighborhood now, pal. You should show some appreciation and we will continue to make you successful. Hopefully.

Got a pizza for pick up. It was ready when it was supposed to be and it’s near home. Pizza wasn’t anything special but it wasn’t bad.

Google
Great pizza for many years. It's carry out so no atmosphere.

Google
Ordered delivery at 6:45. Person came early so I couldn’t meet them right away and told them to leave it in the lobby. It was then stolen which is obviously not their fault, but their reaction to it was horrible. Essentially they BLAMED me and said if I wanted it delivered I would have to pay again. I specifically ordered from them to support a small business and unfortunately will not be ordering from them ever again.

Google
15 to 20 minutes is all it takes to have a great crispy thin crust pizza! We had sausage mushroom and onion along w fried mushrooms and large salad w garlic dressing! Yum!!! Fast delivery too!

Yelp
Good tavern style pizza. Probably my favorite in Skokie! According to the commentors, the recipe has changed. But I find the new recipe to be lovely as well. Friendly ambiance. Hole in the wall. Good food.

Yelp
New owners suck. Changing the ingredients for no reason olives used to be kalamata now they're some cheap bs candlelight owners should've never got involved. They ruined a pizza place I've been going too since I was 10. They preach about la Rosa's loyal customers after buying it then instantly start replacing all the ingredients with cheaper lower quality stuff. Candlelight is ruining a pizza place that so many people from Skokie and Evanston used to love

Yelp
Been going here for years and it's sad to say that the pizza has fell off! The crust and sauce are not the same. Tried it again thinking it was an off day. No luck! Please consult with previous owners. Something is missing!

Yelp
A week ago I went in to get a pizza after picking up my 2yo from daycare. Long story short - the pizza was supposed to be ready at 6 but they were so backed that it took 1.5 hrs of additional waiting to get it. No doubt that sucked bad. My 2yo was with me in their shop and going crazy by the end. But what I'll say is the staff was so kind. They gave him multiple options to pick little toys out of their toy bin (they have one!) to keep him occupied. Even the drivers waiting for orders were kind. They offered drinks to the people waiting. While being backed up and waiting is not optimal - stuff happens and businesses just have to do their best to take care of the customers. And LaRosa did as best as they could so I want to recognize that. At the end, I think because I had to make my kid wait with me too, they made it right by comping my pie. An amazing gesture to a dad who they probably thought was struggling with his kid. Or maybe also that I didn't flip out on them when they told me it'd take longer and understood the situation too. Who knows? Either way, I'm coming back because the pizza was 5 stars even tho the experience was sub par. But they did good to try to make it right. We are all doing our best at times. So I want to recognize that too.

Yelp
We ordered a large pizza with half cheese and the other half with a bunch of toppings. It was delivered still hot by Grubhub and was still hot!!! But the best part it was delicious. Would highly recommend this place for some great pizza.

Yelp
It's been a year or so since I visited LaRosa Pizzeria. I had no idea that it had changed ownership. The pizza I ordered was very good, I even met the new owner. He was a nice gentleman I assume. But he had Fox News blaring in the background because of this I will not be back. It is his right as an American to believe whatever he chooses. It is my right as an American to spend my hard-earned money where I want. And because Fox News is so devisive I choose not to give anyone that gives them oxygen my hard-earned dollars! In a time where truth is so relevant, to listen to or watch this station is counterproductive to our outright democracy. They have been sued for defamation regarding the 2020 election they promoted the big lie and because they did they lost a 737 million dollar settlement. I can only hope the owner is a nice person but because Fox was playing I'm not sure. The pizza is very good and my feelings toward his business have to do with politics. As an American we have to do better for each other. I served this country and I stand for all its citizens. I'm sorry but that's how I feel. I'm giving LaRosa four stars because of the pizza.

Yelp
Grew up on this stuff. It was the best. Apparently there is new ownership and they thought they should mess with 60 years of success. Changed recipe and the pizza has fallen off big time. Very bad. Very sad.

Yelp
My husband and I are first-time customers. He got the thin-crust sausage and mushroom pizza, while I got the gluten-free (thin crust) veggie special with cheese, spinach, mushrooms, green peppers and added fresh tomatoes. The secret is to order the pizzas with extra sauce and then to put them in your oven (350 degrees or so) at home to get that extra caramelization, crispiness and more vivid colors. Tasty! Their gluten-free crust isn't as good as Spacca Napoli's, but it doesn't taste like potato flour cardboard either -- it's totally fine! And look at those cool vintage ovens!

Yelp
I've been ordering pizza from La Rosa for probably 30 years. Had a LaRosa Special tonight and it was as good as ever. Crispy crust and great ingredients. You should definitely try it if you haven't.

Yelp
So I ordered a delivery and it showed up hot and steamy. They also read my request for paper plates and napkins and plastic wear, also gave me some extra seasonings on the side. The pizza is so yummy.

Mitch W.

Yelp
Food's great service is fast. Ambience is awesome. they say 20 minutes to pick up a pizza. It's ready in 15 minutes. I know recently they got bought out by a company so the sun took it over from the parents when the parents retired and moved to Arizona Florida. Then the son took it over for years and then he just sold it to a third-party company. Pizza is great fast amazing.

Janae O.

Yelp
Pizza is awesome!!! Their thin crust is flaky, cheese is melted perfectly. Best veggies pizza I've had.

M. W.

Yelp
I concur with all the people who have been eating from here for multiple decades, as my family and I have. We've been ordering from here, I believe, since we moved to Skokie in 1960. The 4-way thin crust was our pizza of choice and the eggplant parm with spaghetti. I agree with the person who wrote about an "irresistible urge" to eat piece after piece, and he no longer experiences that...yes, so sadly, us, too. My 94-year-old mother and I are very sad. The pizza crust had the consistency of cardboard and the pizza sauce was missing some flavor component. The eggplant parm had a bitterness due to the eggplant just not being prepped correctly. The meat sauce on the spaghetti was just not tasty. This dish is one we used to burn our mouths on, it was so good we could not wait to eat it. I can only think that any 4- and 5-star reviews are from people who have not been ordering from La Rosa for any length of time. The picture I've attached is of what we are tossing out. Eating La Rosa left-overs was something we looked forward to; but no more. We did eat the pizza, but left one piece, which is being tossed as well. I do not take any pleasure in writing this review. It's the end of an era of great food.

Pat D.

Yelp
It seems like it's just a little hole in the wall, and you wouldn't expect much out of this little place. But, it's a hidden gem with very friendly people and super high quality pizza. They promised me I'd like the pizza, and they were right. The thin crust was fabulous, but, there should be a new rating scale for the stuffed deep dish. Dare I say it's the best I've had? I wish they were closer to my home, so I could have it more often. But, then I'd probably be 700 pounds by now, this stuff is so difficult to stop eating.

Yelp
This is a lie, the driver never contacted us, and when w ed called immediately we were asked at 930 pm if we wanted a reship, we said no because it would be 1030 before it arrived. The offer was NEVER asked about a refund because that's Exactly what we did ask. After two days with no refund we called back and was told only a store credit was offered. I DON'T appreciate being called a liar!! We have been loyal customers for several years.

Yelp
Ordered a thin crust cheese and pineapple pizza, pizza bread, and cannoli for delivery. Delivery speed was reasonable. Pizza bread was extremely cheesy but overall tasty. Cannoli was quite good. But the bulk of the dinner, the pizza, was only okay. I found both the crust and the cheese rather flavorless. May be suitable for families nearby as carryout in a pinch, but personally I did not find La Rosa worth returning to.

Yelp
I spotted this place when my work location temporarily changed during covid. I constantly saw delivery drivers and wondered if it was any good and where it was. I spotted the storefront next to the shell; a tiny place (my favorite type of place). Today, my boyfriend and I got the La Rosa special (added pepperoni) but mine was on gluten free crust without cheese. The women that answered the phone to take our order had no issue with my weird order which I really appreciate. My boyfriend's pizza (normal) was cut into squares and mine into traditional pizza slices; helped distinguish the two different crusts (they LOADED the toppings). The cook was super nice too to us too when we picked up! The gluten free crust was so crispy and perfectly cooked. It is by far the BEST gluten free crust I have ever had. I will definitely be back as I can truly enjoy pizza again. Thanks!

Yelp
Thin crust pizza is my jam. Normally I have my go-to location but I was encouraged by the number of positive reviews and tried them out. A few weeks ago, I placed a pickup order for a large thin crust sausage and mushroom. I got my pizza in a timely manner. Still warm from a short ride home, I opened up the box to find a precut sausage and mushroom. I took a slice and bit into the crisp "cracker" like crust. Overall it was good for the value. I paid just under $20 for my pizza. Though it was not the best, it wasn't the worst. This pizza must be consumed same day. There was plenty left over after our meal but unfortunately the "cracker" like crust lost its integrity after a night in the fridge. After a reheat in the oven, it got soft and chewy. Still edible but not what I was hoping for.

Yelp
This spot is our thin crust go-to. The pizza is great and delivery is super quick. I also ordered a bunch of pizzas for my son's park bday recently, and the order was correct and on time! La Rosa for the win.
google avatar

Manda F.

Yelp
Love their pizza. They don't use a sugary sauce so that is nice. No sit down, carry out/pick up only. Small parking lot so just a heads up. I've only gotten their pizza, but so far it has been reliably good. A local go-to from my understanding. Would recommend if you are in the are and want some pizza.

Cyndy O.

Yelp
Why are your pizzas so inconsistently baked/made? Are there different bakers on different nights? Either they are great or so dry, they are inedible. Toppings we order are usually the same, plus or minus an ingredient. Unfortunately tonight was the latter. I know that it was close to closing time but really? Our xtra large is wasted.

Yelp
La Rosa makes the best pizza in the area with the perfect cracker crust, nicely balanced sauce, and always delicious toppings. Their delivery is also freakishly fast!

Yelp
Great new owner. So much cleaner now. Pizza even tastes better. Definitely returning

Yelp
You know, when Tom Petty passed, I was a bit upset but upon hearing Neil Peart from Rush passing - well this Working Man was really in a somber mood. So I needed to cheer myself up. So I decided to have an Eggplant Parmesan sandwich - my all time favorite sandwich by the way and was able to locate this discreet, hiding in plain sight old school Italian gem place called - La Rosa. Can you believe that they've had their same oven for 57 years and that the 3rd generation is now running the place - now that's commitment! That's perseverance! But most of all, that's unheard of, these days. Because folks just want to take the money their hard working parents have made and just go on extended vacations - I get it. So that's why this place is a gem, and my mind was blown with the Eggplant Parmesan - they peel off the skin (pain staking right?) and eggwash it before frying it up. Wow, the sandwich kicked arse, easily in the top 3 for this type of sandwich for me. And the LaRosa pizza was no slouch either, crispy, full of ingredients, I'll definitely be back. See, I'm in a better mood already. RIP Neil Peart, you're no longer in the Limelight but you're definitely Closer to the Heart.

Donald C.

Yelp
Been ordering thin crust from La Rosa for 20 years. But the pizza I had today was just not the same. It was passable but not nearly as good as under the previous ownership. No longer did I have the incredible urge to eat piece after piece. That's how I knew the pizza was not the same. Also pizza was undercooked and my wife and I had to do another 10 min at 400. Oh well, there is still pequods.
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
I ordered from La Rosa about 3-4 times, and each time the food has been fantastic. And I'm picky. The thin crust pizza is fantastic. Not too greedy, plenty of sauce and cheese with good flavor. The spaghetti is also very good. Today we ordered chicken, and it's crispy and yummy. Came with two rolls of Italian bread and they were quick! From order to door was about 15-20 minutes. They rank up there with Dirty Dave's pizza in Lacey, WA.

Mary F.

Yelp
Amazingly fast pick-up times and I LOVE that someone answers the phone (usually on the first ring!)
google avatar

Yelp
Hello Debbie. I saw on one review that your recipe and pizza has not changed. This is impossible. Simply impossible. Ate this pizza pretty much once a week from 1990-2017. Have consulted numerous people in the community who agree that it is a 100% different pizza. It is an ok pizza now, but when comparing to what it was it is not good at all. Care to comment further?

Yelp
I've been ordering from these guys for many years of course Rosa when you're there for that long you're doing all the right things. I ordered a pizza he didn't seem the same a little dry, not enough sauce I know the guy who's been making these pizzas been there a long time maybe he's retired :-). And somebody else is making the pizza.

Yelp
Awesome little hidden gem. I am surprised this doesn't end up in write ups as best tavern style pizza in Chicago. The oven is really cool - it's the original from 1957. And it works really well apparently because the pizza was very crispy and overall really good.

Mike N.

Yelp
Awesome old school place in the old time neighborhood great back in the day and still great the old time La Rosa
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Old School Pizza Joint that's been in business since 1957. The first thing you'll see walking in is the awesome old green Fauld's Rotating Deck Oven... don't see those very often anymore that's for sure! The place is busy complete with 7 delivery drivers out front with engines running & an hour wait to PICKUP a pizza on a Friday night. The pizza is..... great with an amazing cracker crust, great tangy sauce & quality cheese! I've had Sausage & Mushroom from here and it's great but I think just the plain pepperoni edges it out... when that cheese overflows and burns on the edges of the crust. Pizza is served piping hot, order taken accurately and quick service picking up! Top 5 in Chicagoland Area. Talk later

Yelp
This is another great pizza place if you want, carry out. While there might not be dining indoors or outdoors, which many don't do these days, There are great pizza's, wether you want deep dish or thin crust, don't get me wrong both are great, this would be a great place to come to. Oh, and they will give you coupons on your first time there, for your 2nd and etc, So with this being said it might be a good idea to stop buy.

Yelp
Their pizza is not bad. I like their pizza with the pineapple as one of their toppings. There are many varieties of pizza that they have but I'm not sure what specifically my mom's group orders whenever they have some little gatherings. My kids love the chicken wings! My son can finish at least 3-4 orders. Their Italian beef is not bad either. With regards to lasagna, it's not bad, but it's just not presentable I think. Or maybe because it was ordered to go. Menu is still yet to be explored.

Yelp
At work at the time, I ordered at La Rosa Pizza On Golf via Yelp solely because there was not a minimum order fee or a specific pre-order time for delivery in comparison to other restaurants I had an interest in. I work nearby in Skokie and have pondered many of times in the past when I would visit to order takeout. The interest was there, however, the urge was not there until now. The restaurant has this old-fashioned, hole in the wall appearance being that it has been around since 1957. As for my order, I ended up ordering a meatball sandwich after contemplating briefly on their lasagna. In time, I imagine that I will order either that or their pizza which I must try being that it is a pizza restaurant and I do love pizza. As for the meatball sandwich, it was filling! It came with two huge meatballs inside of 6-inch sub-style bread. I have no complaints about my overall experience with La Rosa; my food arrived in a timely manner, and its taste was not disappointing. As for future orders, I just cannot see myself ever dining in, however, I can see myself ordering takeout because La Rosa sits enroute on my drive which makes it perfect for takeout. And now that I have ordered here once, I can only imagine that I will order again. ~Blessings~ Thomas G

Yelp
They are no longer willing to curbside and walk a pizza out ten feet from the door to a car in front of their store in the middle of a pandemic. I'm not sure if this is a political statement on their part or what, but I won't be partaking in their pizza until they start behaving like a reasonable business and respectful member of the community. Their pizza is relatively good Chicago-style thin crust, but this just isn't worth it. Plenty of better choices nearby: Panino's, Candelite, Middy Mags for thin crust, and of course Lou's, Lefty's, Pequod's, Gullivers, and Burt's for deep dish.
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
Place is great!!!! Highly recommend you pick up yourself and bring home immediately. Ask them not to pre slice. Cut when you are ready to eat.
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
Old school Chicago thin crust pizza at its best. Pretty much take out only (they don't have a dine in area), their pizza is cooked in a "Fauld's oven" which is a super old school pizza oven popular in Chicago and throughout the Midwest. They use actual slices of mozzarella (vs shredded cheese) and the crust is light and crispy. You can watch the guy make the pizza right by the counter or at the front window. A 5 minute drive from my home, they are my go to for thin crust pizza in the area, with Gigio's (Evanston) taking a close second. Their wings are good as well, but I can't vouch for the other menu items at La Rosa as I haven't tried them yet. So consider this a 5 star pizza review for La Rosa!

Yelp
This pizza is the bomb!!! I don't get heartburn! This pizza taste so good! This thin is better than the corp chains! Hands down!

Yelp
Got six pizzas for my kids birthday and they were a hit . I got cheese , pepperoni, four way and Hawaiian . So very good !!

Yelp
The chicken parm sandwich was great tasting and just the right size. The sandwich was hot and tasty. Thank you to the great staff that prepared it. Great job.

Yelp

Yelp
Spot on crispy tavern style Chicago pizza. Highly recommended. Friendly staff as well

Yelp
Great food and service . Owner is a class act and stand up guy. Staff is always pleasant and kind.

Yelp
Our family had a pizzeria in Chicago in the '80's, written up in the Tribune for one of the 4 best pizza's in the Chicago area. All 4 were not chain restaurants. Our family is very particular when it comes to pizza.....pizza snobs. When my children come into town, we have to have La Rosa's!
google avatar

Suzanne D.

Yelp
I've re-discovered this place after having pizza here during my childhood. It's a Chicagoland staple for tavern style pizza that's been in business for over 4 decades. Ordered a thin crust pie with 3 toppings. The sauce was a bit sweeter which I normally don't prefer but it just worked with the saltiness of the cheese and toppings. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. They roll and make dough right in front of customers. Clean and safety measures in place now as you walk into the establishment.
google avatar

elizabeth r.

Yelp
Came back after 7 years and ordered their thin crust pizza and I have to say they have really gotten better since the last time I ordered. I ordered their pizza a few times this month and every time it was great!! Definitely one of my favorite pizza places in Skokie. Would highly recommend getting the pizza from here. Their thin crust is amazing super thin and crisp green it's the right amount of sauce and cheese.
google avatar

Luke S.

Yelp
Awesome and old school. There has to be a ton of history behind their oven. When Piero's closed we needed our fix for old school pub style Chicago style pizza. These guys make an awesome pie at a reasonable price. Their stuffed crust is how it should be done! My only knock is I waited for 30 minutes after they said it would be ready, which wasn't ideal. They were clearly working their tail off though. Rock solid spot.

Yelp
I love a place that has been around for a long time. Please support independent restaurants. Good thin crust, super fresh veggies. Keep this place alive.
