By far my best eating experience in central Brussels. Not the pressure and "fast food" feeling of the others, just a fabulous welcome, a relaxed environment and some of the best food I've had All that just a few steps away from the usual hustle and bustle of the city centre and all it's tourist traps Seek it out if you can

We went here on our first night in Brussels. I really wanted to try a local cuisine but my parents are very conscious of making sure the food has no contamination with non-halal items. A staff member understood everything and helped us pick out local dishes that would work for us. He was very friendly and helpful. And the food itself was great quality and flavorful. They also had outdoor seating which was great for vibes near the Grand Place.

Google
Authentic Belgian cuisine and the best rabbit fricassee I have ever eaten, and I am the granddaughter of Italian peasants and the rabbit cage system. Extraordinary historical surroundings and waiters of character and generosity! We will return!

This traditional Belgian restaurant is an absolute gem. What made the experience exceptional was our waiter—an older gentleman who was so sweet! And then, of course, there was the food. We started with the lobster bisque which was blended perfectly. We also got the cheese croquettes—crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, actually perfect. For the main course, we got the mussels, served in a classic pot with white wine and herbs, and the stoemp—Belgium’s answer to mashed potatoes, blended with seasonal vegetables topped with traditional Belgian sausage. Everything was absolutely delicious. The portions were generous-- we were completely stuffed. A must-try!

Fiaza (server made our evening)! She was amazing! We have been to Brussels before and wanted to try a different mussels place. Escargot were delicious! Mussels in garlic were good. The service was excellent and we left feeling well supported and attended to.

The dishes were quite small, and the service felt rushed and impersonal—plates were practically thrown onto our table. Our bill was €184, and when we offered €195 including tip, they entered €198.50 instead. This kind of dishonest behavior is unacceptable. Not recommended. follow up: add receipt to show the owner is not honest Again. We ordered 12 items, include 6 main dishes and one appetizer

Delicious Belgian specialties! We had the fresh house-made foie gras that comes with warm onion marmalade - truly a special treat! Then as main dishes: the meatballs for him and the carbonnade for me. Both were exquisite! Fresh baguette of course and Belgian beers to enjoy. Highly recommend!

Google
Nestled in the bustling heart of Brussels and few steps away from the Grand Place, this is indeed one culinary gem that I found while researching for top eating places to visit while in Brussels. This place marries the rich tradition of Belgian cuisine with a modern flair, with its age-old interiors interiors exuding warmth and history. The place was packed on a Thursday evening, a testament of its popularity. It’s indeed a satisfying meal and experience.

Yelp
Such a cool space with all of the unique art! It was quiet when I went in for lunch...only 3 tables and one server. The service wasn't very warm, but the food was good.

Yelp
I was a little apprehensive about going in as there was only one table seated, but I'm really glad we did and it filled up quickly. We had a lovely simple salad, foie gras, and champagne. All were delicious. Oh, and the bread is amazing. The vibe is quirky with Magritte riffs on the wall. Seems very authentic in a touristy area.

Yelp
Amazing food! We ordered a fish soup and bone marrow to start. Both dishes had a well-balanced flavor. No need to add your own salt nor any other condiment. The bone marrow was very buttery and savory, especially the broth underneath it. The fish soup was by definition, umami. It came alongside an orange colored garlic sauce and some croutons. Dip your mussels in the garlic sauce, it's very accommodating. For our entrees, we ordered a rabbit stew in prune sauce and meatballs. Both came with a side of frites. The rabbit stew was amazing. It was both sweet and savory. I was very satisfied by it because it wasn't overpowered by sweetness. And the fact that the meat just fell off the bones. I had a bite of the meatball. Quite the contrast from the rabbit stew. The meatballs were very soft and full of flavor. Overall, I had a great experience here. The staff was very nice, the chef was very entertaining from the kitchen view! And the restaurant accepts contactless payments.

Yelp
A truly great find. Just a few steps from the hustle and bustle of Grand Place and you have this little gem. No it is not cool, not trendy and above all - not a tourist trap. You even have to ask for the menu in English (word of warning - in English the dishes sound bland - they sound way better in French but taste equally great regardless!) This is simply, great Belgian/French Food the way it has been served for decades. We went twice in 3/4 days - my wife had the same dish each time - rabbit and prune casserole and she LOVED it. First time I had a beef stew (better in French!) which I enjoyed. Today I had beef fillet with green peppercorn sauce. They don't push you on wine so if you want a second glass expect to beckon them. The bulk of the customers are locals - the tourists are 50-100 yards away in the Grand Place paying more for sub-par food! Two thumbs up Review number 7 2019

Yelp
The desk manager/concierge at The Hotel had a few recommendations for Mussels in Brussels and this was one of my favorites. The interior design was filled with charm and character. The staff was helpful, old school class and courteous. But the mussels were the star! I started with Moules escargos (Mussels with Garlic Butter) I don't think a mussel dish can get any better than this. For my entrée I chose Moules vin Blanc creme (Mussels with White Wine & Cream) Even the bread was quality, but best enjoyed dipping into the sauce.

Yelp
snails, shrimps croquettes, profiteroles - the wonderful staff, the amazing interior. we really liked this place!

Yelp
Amazing value, extremely fresh mussels, very tender and well braised meats (seasoning, flavoring, thoroughly seeped and you can taste the extensive prep time) -- highly recommend!

Yelp
We went on the recommendation of the Hotel Concierge who called the restaurant who had to negotiate a 6:15 - 8PM slot. So we get there at 6:10 and the place is empty! 2 seats being used out of a possible 60 or so. Not that we held this against the place. We just thought it was funny. Pretty soon the place started filling up and by the end of the meal I had no doubt the place would be at full capacity by 8. Europeans just eat later. We only had two entrees. My wife had the mussels in garlic while I had the Val a Vent Chicken because it looked so good in the picture on Yelp. My chicken came in a little cabin of pastry which was nice. The chicken came in a white mushroom sauce which was OK but not that flavorful. One other thing I didn't like was that the chicken was about 40 percent dark meat. This is probably more common in Belgium than it would be in the US where we like our breast meat. Wife said the mussels were just OK. As for the side dish, we got French fries which were like all of the other fries we had at Belgian restaurants. I'm sure they were fresh and not frozen because that's what they do in Belgium but they weren't that good tasting. So overall, nothing was really bad but nothing was good enough that I felt like I had a good satisfying meal which is what I demand for a restaurant. Food was just too bland.

Yelp
I am glad I gave it a couple of days, because I'm a little more forgiving in hindsight, but the best advice I have about this place is that the service is "not ideal for American children". My rant: **The owner seated us in a high-traffic table near the kitchen doors **She kept pushing my 5-year-old in until his ribcage was flush with the table **She rushed us and brought our apps at the same time as our entrees (never in 2.5 weeks in Europe did that happen anywhere else) **A waiter/server broke a glass on MY end of the table, and she blamed it on m kid **Other than that, the service was brusque and impersonal. The Food: **Cheese croquettes were made from brie wedges and were pretty good **My wife said it was the best Waterzooi she'd ever had **I got the Hanger Steak - the cut was a little tough, but it was done in a pretty nice carbonnade sauce. **Frites were of the inferior steak-house cut, but still not bad. **Dame blanche was just fine Other: **Great location a block off the Grote Markt. **Nice interior with some nods to Magritte **Gerard Depardieu had a plaque on the benches where we sat. **Decent wines by the carafe **Moderately priced, we got out for less than 100 EUR

Yelp
The Cassoulet was absolutely amazing. A friend got the Ham Knuckle. Wow. Very flavorful. We also got the snails for appetizer as well as the sausage plate and the fromage croquet. Absolutely loved it.

Yelp
If you look for Brussels atmosphere and really decent food. Wouldn't have expected seen the location.

Yelp
In a word - outstanding. In another - surprising. I went into this place on the recommendation of a waiter from La Mort Subite (he told me that's where he eats). It's buried in with a ton of tourist traps in and around La Grande Place. But, fear not. It's a really, very good restaurant with reasonable prices (for Brussels). The decor is really cool, very much a typical Magritte decor. In fact, while we sat outside and ate, a number of people stuck their heads in to snap a picture. The food is really very good. For dessert, I had probably the best waffle I had in Belgium (still not rivaling Amsterdam waffles, mind you). My wife had fresh strawberries (which were in season). For dinner, I had seafood Waterzooi, which was outstanding. My wife had salmon with bearnaise sauce.Yum! Others on other review pages complain about the service. Mind you - this is a locals' place. So, intruders are not really welcome. That having been said, if you're not obnoxious, they're perfectly nice to you. I speak French, and so there was likely something to the fact that I spoke French when I walked into the restaurant. I saw others wander up, just start in English, and get turned away (just before others were seated as walk-ups). So, don't go here expecting a super-friendly, we'll fawn all over you, and definitely don't be rude, expecting them to speak your language instead of their own. But, DO go here and have dinner. Incidentally, they have continuous service.

Yelp
Nice place, very bruxellois atmosphere. This was recommended as the place to get moules-frites. I wasn't disappointed - leagues above and beyond what you get at a place like Chez Leon. The frites were thick and perfectly crispy, the moules fat and tender. My companion had the cassoulet, which was even better than my bowl of mussels. Both of us nearly fell into a food coma after done. The dining room is painted a warm shade of yellow, and it looked like Magritte had been given free rein to paint eccentric designs on the walls. Service was very proper, if a bit slow. The next time I'm feeling cold while walking home from work, I'll be back for the cassoulet with duck confit.

Yelp
We went for lunch and had the €15 or so lunch prix fixe. The service was so/so (there are other reviews that speak to an anti-English bias) but not unbearable. The food was good. There was a vegetable soup as the started (zucchini maybe?) that was absolutely divine. The mussels were blah. The main was some type of fish (sole?) that was decent. I'd go back for the soup, honestly.

Yelp
Excellent old restaurant with lots of dark wood, earth-toned walls, and polished brass. It will be packed full with knowing Brussel locals out for a special meal; this place provides the sort of old-school continental restaurant and service where the waiters all have linen towels folded in their aprons. Great menu of pork, lamb, mussels, beef, fish: whatever you like. Mains will be in the EUR22-EUR24 range. It's worth a visit for one special meal during your stay in Brussels. Not far from the Grand Place. Menu and reservation booking available through their website.

Yelp
Reasonable price, but the waiter was not kind. Food was good, but I think I can find another good restaurant in Brussel.

Yelp
My favourite restaurant in Brussels. The food is good but not expensive and the atmosphere is wonderful (wooden walls / furniture with brass).

Yelp
A group of us stopped in on a whim. We were seated right away, and service was friendly and attentive. From the starters menu, the goose liver was amazing, and the Camembert croquettes with the apples and honey is to die for. The mussels were tender and flavorful, and the ox cheek was very tender. The ham knuckle was the best ham I've ever had, and the sides were tasty and filling. We didn't need dessert, but ordered any, and the apple fritters, creme brulee, and chocolate cake were delightful. Portions were huge - plenty to share among the group tonight.

Yelp
Immediate and friendly welcome, with efficient service throughout. The faison a la Brabanconne was perfectly cooked, with the best potato croquettes we have ever tasted. Wine a little expensive, but hey, who cares in such a quality establishment?

Yelp
Food was good, but a little pricey for what it was. We needed reservations. Atmosphere is really cool with great tributes to the surrealists on the walls.

Yelp
Just beyond the few streets of clamour surrounding the Grand Place this restaurant has a decent traditional menu. I'd like to like this more than I do; the lambs tongue and moule/frite were both good and the room was nicely tradtional. Ultimately it was let down by an atmosphere that felt like it was chasing the tourist $: refused to provide a carafe of water (the first time in the country this had happened); a bottle of wine on the table; prefunctory service; little difference between my mussels with white wine and by wife's with garlic. Personally given the quality of sea food available in the city I'd go elsewhere for a taste of something tradtional; however not a bad choice close to tourist central.

Yelp
all i eat in Belgium is moules-frites. easy to do as am rarely here more than a day-trip plus i luv em. had the nat'l dish (mosselen-friet in flemish) at this brasserie last month, both the marinière and provençale, equally good and plenty. the mussels fat, the frites thin, double fried and crunchy. bit pricier than many touristic eateries as the best "moules zélandaises contrôlée et garantie" is served, shipped daily from Holland.

Yelp
This is my favorite french bistro when I am in brussels always good and the steaks are excellent. I would keep going there.

Yelp
Just had my second visit to the restaurant. I would agree with all the other writers- the ambiance is worth going for. The food was excellent as was the service. I did book though as it got quite busy, particularly at weekends. It is not cheap and for two of uswe spent 136Euros-mind you we had two main meals, two desserts, one rather expensive bottle of red, several after dinner drinks e.g. Amaretto, whisky and coffee. You do not have to be quite as extravagant- it was a special occassion.
