"Sayulita is such an international town now that you can find practically any cuisine there. One of my favorites is La Rustica, known for its wood-fired pizzas. Ahead of its time design-wise, it was one of the first restaurants to open in town sporting that minimalist, industrial aesthetic. What has kept it in business for so long, though, is its consistently delicious menu of pizzas, pastas, fresh salads, and seafood." - Travel + Leisure Editors

What a great place in the heart of Sayulita! Our waiter was Alex, and his level of service was impeccable. The pizzas and pastas were superb. The manager also assisted us with some food allergies in our big group, he went out of his way to help. What a great place! Highly recommend.

Savanah Evans

Google
The food was fantastic, and the service was even better, making for an overall wonderful experience. Keep in mind, the atmosphere leans more toward a casual café style. If you’re dining in the evening, you might encounter some road noise. While it wasn’t overwhelming, it was noticeable for a short time.

Google
Man, wow. That’s all I gotta say. Italian food in Sayulita…no chance it’s good right?? Wrong. I was so surprised. The food was delicious, seasoned perfectly. The pizza was great, sauce to cheese ratio was on point and crust was perfect. The La Trufa pasta was an absolute banger. And the calamari was one of the best I have ever had. It may be Italian American cuisine but it hit the spot. Go here if you need a break from local cuisine for a night. (Sorry for the half eaten pizza and pasta, we forgot to take a pic haha) Service was great!!

Nicole Fernandez

Google
Amazing restaurant, the food is amazing and delicious! Highly recommend! The staff was amazing and our waiter was so sweet and attentive!

Rhishi Pethe

Google
Amazing food and a lot of interesting drinks. Pizzas are really good. Great casual vibe. Staff is super friendly and chill. Get a table in the street. You can people watch. There’s always a line.

Janice Lawson

Google
Alex, our server was exceptional. Food was tasty. Overall, a good experience. We recommend.

Google
La Rustica is the best overall restaurant experience in Sayulita. Pizza is awesome, amazing drinks and really good service. You will pay US prices but definitely worth it.

Drew Mabry

Google
One of my favorite places in sayulita. More expensive by local standards, but inexpensive by us standards. Service was great, as was the atmosphere. The popcorn shrimp were amazing, I enjoyed the marlin tacos and the pizza was solid. Plenty of space, clean bathrooms.

Dennis M.

Yelp
One of the best meals we had in Sayulita. The service is prompt and attentive. And the food is oh so good. Who knew you could find Italian food this good in Sayulita?

My D.

Yelp
Basically drunk/hangover food; very heavy, cheesy, and greasy food. We ordered: Mussels "with a touch of cream": 2/5 - it was a cream bath. The bread was stale. San Francisco pizza: 3.5/5 - great if you're drunk. Our hands very dripping in grease/oil. We still ate most of the food because we didn't want to waste it but my stomach did not handle the food well. I had to call it a night immediately after and tossed the leftovers.

Aaron B.

Yelp
Atmosphere was beach party. Pretty packed restaurant with large tables of families. Appetizer shrimp was the best thing we had. The pasta was not good, it was over cooked and became like a blob. Wine was sent back, drinks were overly sweet. I wouldn't recommend for Italian. The bread at beginning of meal was pretty good but tiny pieces.

Jaslean A.

Yelp
Okay WOW!! This is by far some of the best pizza I've ever had in my LIFE! My best friend had a pre wedding welcome dinner here tonight and eveything from the food and service was excellent!!! This place deserves 10 stars. Funny enough I thought the pepperoni pizza was by far my favorites and our whole table agrees! They also loved the pastor pizza. The food, services and vibes weee top notch. A must come when visiting sayulita!!

Kent V.

Yelp
Came here over the weekend for a wedding and went to dinner here one night. We got a table on the patio and ordered their truffle pasta and pepperoni and ham pizza. Both items were delicious. If I had to choose, I would pick the pasta over the pizza. Cocktails were on the more expensive side for Mexico standards but were really tasty as well. Service was fast and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant, if visiting Sayulita. PS - I got pooped while sitting outside on the patio so just be aware that it's not necessarily the best seating at the restaurant.

Trei C.

Yelp
We really enjoyed La Rustica. If you are staying in town, definitely drop in. Food was high quality and top notch. Margaritas were great and they had lots of options for different diets.

Phil N.

Yelp
La Rustica is a restaurant specializing in modern italian and craft cocktails. It has a hip vibe and opens up to the street entirely. It has an accessible but upscale fibe. It's got the modern warehouse loft style and is way more put together than most of what you see in town Service was great and plenty of folks checked in. The pizza was great. Wood fired. The artichoke was awesome too. Huge two halves layered with Aioli. As a side note, i saw a few groups got food poisoning about a month ago. This is really unfortunate. As a reminder, you are in mexico and it's easy to get some different bacteria which we are unaccustomed to. I see nothing of concern with the cleanliness of this place. As much of a drag as it is, you need to protect yourself wherever you go. IE stay away from fresh fruits and vegetables unless you clean them. Thats why we got the artichoke instead of a salad. The

Yelp
Pro's: Great location, excellent food. Con's: Nothing Go back?: Yes! More... Yes, I was Sayulita and ordered a chicken sandwich! Lol. At this point in my visit, I had devoured the most wonderful tacos, rellenos, mole and more. This day, I just wanted a simple chicken sandwich. I loved this sandwich because it was a medium thickness slice of chicken breast, not overwhelmingly large and not skimpy - just perfect. It was grilled and I am certain, marinated. The flavor with the perfectly sliced avocados, mandolin slices of red onion, aioli and crispy bread was perfection. The bread was SO GOOD, my friend bought a loaf (she lives there).

Lee Ann P.

Yelp
This little spot is cute, with a lot of solid Italian food options (which seems a little odd in Mexico, but if you want to switch things up it's a good choice!) we started with the artichokes, which were honestly horrible. It was like they were dried out and no one at our table enjoyed it. For our meal, I split the rustica pasta and the mushroom pizza. Both of which were awesome! The mushroom pizza was perfectly cheesy, with a little truffle oil. My husband got the fish of the day which he enjoyed, and then our friend got the poke bowl, which he said was good. They have a huge wine, cocktail and beer selection, and I enjoyed the house red. Lastly, we ordered the fried shrimp, but somehow ended up getting French fries, which were good, but disappointing to never get the shrimp. Besides that hiccup though, the service was great!

Jenna T.

Yelp
This is a popular place and reservations are highly recommended. It's more American style food. Tables are tight & very close together. The windows are open to the street side which allows the street hustlers come up to you & try to sell their goods. It kind of disrupts your dining experience. I guess this place is known for their pizza since that's what a lot of people were eating. I ordered the paella which had undercooked rice. I couldn't even eat it all. The steak and frites were probably the best on the table. The panic mussels were also very yummy. It was a great place and close to downtown with a lot of activity happening. One of the nicer places to have dinner at. I'd visit again, but maybe order a pizza instead.

Ion G.

Yelp
Great Italian food in the heart of Sayulita if you're craving pasta, pizza and coffee martinis. During our week long trip we had dinner here twice and it did not disappoint. The breads were amazing, pizza super fresh and the ravioli melted in your mouth with flavorful cheeses and chicken. The restaurant is great for large groups, about 20 of use and the service very good for drinks and food which came out quite quickly. Definitely be coming back here for our next trip!

John E.

Yelp
Best Italian in Sayulita in my opinion. The staff is great as well. Waiters are very nice and attentive. The ramen upstairs is great too. The pizza and meatballs are amazing. We went to the other Italian restaurant up the street that served steak but was very disappointed good thing we tried this place. Made our Sayulita trip from good to great. Thanks for the wonderful food!

Jasmin H.

Yelp
The Pizzas are on point with a crispy thin crust Italian Style. Pizze are enough to share among two or for people with a big appetite maybe in addition to an appetizer. I highly recommend the Pizza Del Mar. The seafood is super fresh and in combination with the pesto and cheese overall delicious.

Maggie R.

Yelp
The ambiance is Amazing and so is the service. The pizza was 10/10, we almost went back the day after to have this pizza again. The oysters Rockefeller were ok, I would definitely order the regular oysters next time.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Stopped in after a day of shopping. 50 peso Pacificos and delicious pizzas. Friendly service and nice stop. I would go again

Olivia C.

Yelp
The ambiance here is lovely and my party enjoyed their food and drinks but unfortunately my octopus took so long to come out so I spent a long time waiting while everybody else ate around me. I feel like a beggar asking for scraps of their food while I waited :( Once it finally came out, the octopus was undercooked and slimy. I did enjoy my friend's truffle pasta and wish I ordered that, and I also enjoyed the creme brûlée and flan. I would give them another try when I'm in town but would not order the octopus, which was disappointing.

Gabi M.

Yelp
Querido La Rustica, Te amo! You've become one of my fave dining destinations over the years and my recent visit in December 2022 was no exception. My family visits the Nayarit area annually and the adults have a tradition of taking a day trip together that typically concludes with shopping, drinks and dinner in Sayulita. La Rustica has always provided delicious drinks, pizza, salad, pasta, etc... You really cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, although some of our favorite items are the bonita and "wine and cheese" salads, the funghi (mushroom) pizza, the el rey pizza, and the pesto pizza. They were out of the artichoke appetizer on a recent visit, but I remember enjoying that on previous visits as well. Service is attentive and the vibe is awesome. Check out the bathrooms and wall art while there. Apologies that I don't have photos to share as we typically devour the food before my phone is able to capture the beauty in the food... If you're reading this review and in the area, go put your name on the list now! Enjoy!

Lisa W.

Yelp
We never ate here but spent $$ on drinking here at their cocktail bar. We sat at the bar, no reservations or wait needed. All their cocktails are delicious! I think I tried all their mezcal and most of their margaritas cocktails. Their carajillo is also delicious. Cash only or spend a certain amount to use credit card, I think it was 800 pesos.

Ross V.

Yelp
I'd say this place is a bit over hyped. We had two drinks (mediocre), calamari appetizer (decent but nothing special), and a La Princessa pizza (they burnt the crust and it was mediocre at best). If you don't like burnt crust make sure to tell them before they bring it out. After the pizza arrived, we noticed the crust was almost fully burnt and pizza super crispy. We mentioned it to our waitress, but she seem to not care and just said OK. For a 75$ USD bill, I'll pass next time and proudly eat somewhere else next time.

Olga G.

Yelp
A quick stop at this cute restaurant in Sayulita was very well worth it. I wish I was hungry enough to try other items on the menu. The guacamole was delicious, drinks on point and service was amazing. This is making my list.

Megan B.

Yelp
Not advertised on the menu but they have gluten free rice noodles!!! So good! I started digging in before taking this pic so had to rearrange it to look pretty again but it was deliciousssss.

Isabella B.

Yelp
The food was delightful in the moment but my partner and I both got food poisoning. We both woke up violently ill the morning after eating here. Symptoms lasted more than 48 hours: cold sweats, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, lightheadedness. Nothing that nausea medicines (Zofran, TUMS) could help. We ordered bolognese and garlic shrimp. Worth adding that neither of us drink alcohol.

Christian L.

Yelp
Food is absolutely fantastic, service was speedy and overall experience was relaxed. We ordered Tuna tacos, Shrimp tacos, Tuna sashimi, all seafood was fresh and tasty. Burritos- don't get fooled by the name - were great, the cabbage gave them a nice touch. Overall great lunch spot in Sayulita!

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Exceeded my expectations! Not gunna lie, I was very skeptical cause italian food in mexico? Hmmmm....but it was all tasty and very affordable. For pizza, pasta, and salad, it was only $28 USD. But its like craft quality, not your neighborhood Pizza Hut. We saw the Al Pastor pizza and had to try it. Its almost like a hawaiian pizza. The caesar salad was big and the carbonara pasta was also good. I wish it had raw egg on top though. Our server was excellent, he was on top of everything and was all about the small details. We also got seated right away for saturday dinner but maybe we were lucky. The seating is a bit tight and its very loud in there though. Overall, had a great time.

Kyle S.

Yelp
Good wood-fired pizza here. The Al Pastor Pizza is an interesting concept, and actually works very well. The flavor profile reminds me of a 'Hawaiian' but with the more pronounced slow grilled flavor of pastor meat. In that sense it's a slam dunk, basically a next level 'Hawaiian'. The Caesar salad and carbonara here are also good, although no noteworthy variations from the norm. Overall it was an enjoyable meal and service was excellent!

Farrah A.

Yelp
How have I not Yelped my favorite dining destination in Sayulita? This charming restaurant is in the heart of town with plenty of outdoor seating, people watching, good music - and really fantastic food. Pizzas, pastas, seafood, salads, craft cocktails, wine... and the best carajillo in town. Def rec sipping on one of those as a nightcap, or perhaps to get recharged for the day/night. They sometimes have live music or street artists performers outside (for example, on one occasion there were fire dancers); on weekend during the busy season, it's a casual party scene. Just go, and enjoy.

Nelson H.

Yelp
Very good food, and Oscar our waiter was phenomenal both times! I also enjoyed my hang with the local street dogs that roam in for a drink from the doggie water bowl, and to crash out on the tile floor to escape the heat! Excellent

Bianka G.

Yelp
"Best Italian food in Sayulita" they said and they were right!!! Hands down. The decor and overall feel of the restaurant is welcoming. The open air seating at the front of the restaurant allows you to still people watch and watch any of the street performers. Pizza looked good but we went the pasta route. Started out with some crispy calamari to start and then onto the gnocchi with shrimp and pesto with chicken. Both sauces were amazing. Rich and flavorful. The gnocchi so so pillowy. Shrimp was juicy and chicken was tender. Drinks were pretty, strong, and tasty. Everything was delicious!

Sara W.

Yelp
I'm nearly certain that this restaurant has either paid for their reviews or it is loved by Americans who just want familiar food. For that, I guess it's good. Service was very attentive but food was just ok and prices were quite high for Sayulita. If you want pizza, walk across the street to Kahlo. But if you want great cocktails.... It's good

Tigre P.

Yelp
The one star isn't for the food. It's a 3.75 star joint for what we had. Nothing ecstatic. Greens in salad were fresh and not wilty, but nothing better than we make at home. I was looking forward to the shrimp/avocado/pineapple pizza. Sauce is better than most, cheese mild mannered, shrimp a little on the fishy flavor side, pineapple good but sparse. Dough was good until the end and had more of an uncooked flour vibe or powdery cracker to it. Drinks were two mezcal margaritas that were on the weaker side. Total was $43 USD which is fine and better than we'd get back home. I paid with 3 $20 USD bills, I wanted change and they came back with 10 Pesos ($0.56), and said, "We exchange 13 Pesos to the dollar," and walked away. I was happy to leave a tip, but this was poor service. To not give us a heads up about their exchange rate is wrong. Moral: Pesos only or charge to your card. Note: I've since updated this after learning most places will deduct about 2-5 pesos from the going exchange rate.

Elle K.

Yelp
Modern pizza and cocktails. A beautiful restaurant in a lovely part of town. The pizza was terrific. The hostess was lovely. However the menu was not descriptive enough. I ordered a Cesar salad and it came out grilled. Hot. Wilted. Lettuce. Not what I expected! I realize that some people like it that way. I don't mind a wilted spinach salad or arugula on a pizza. But I wanted a typical crunchy and hydrating Cesar Salad. They brought out a head of Romaine lettuce, split in half and charred, with bottle squirts of thick Cesar dressing. I took one bite and decided I couldn't do it. I called the waitress over and sent it back, saying it wasn't as described on the menu. The manager came back with the plate to tell me that I would have to pay for it because I ordered it. It's was $17. We probably spent $250. I will never go back there and encourage you to be careful when ordering.

Mamas S.

Yelp
STAY AWAY!!!! If I could give this place negative stars, I would. My family and I went to La Rústica on Sunday night around 7 pm. It was Super Bowl night and everywhere else was full, so we decided to eat here since the reviews are so high. The food was honestly delicious. We got the calamari, La rústica pizza, La rústica pasta, the veggie pizza, and the pastel don bonito. Both my daughter and I got horrible food poisoning after I had La rústica pizza (which had chicken on it) and my daughter had La rústica pasta (which had shrimp on it). However, we didn't get sick until the next morning. Both my daughter and I felt horrible for a day afterward with vomiting, diarrhea, etc. Also, my husband ate my leftover pizza before we got sick, and he also currently has food poisoning with the same symptoms. I may never return to Sayulita just because of this traumatic experience. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Marty M.

Yelp
Normally, I'm pretty satisfied with La Rustica. However, we recently ordered a couple drinks. Got 2 casa amigos w/ mineral water.... they charged 720 pesos or about $40.00 USD.... We didn't realize it until we left. The food we had to go was OK.......... their New York Steak used to be second to none.... the steaks we received were smaller than usual....it seems like the quality of the meat is not the same, too... The pasta is fine if you like pasta.... Hard to mess up....

Diana B.

Yelp
What a fun place to eat in downtown Saluletos. We arrived, and each had a cocktail, which was delicious. Our waiter was on the spot and helped us pick out what we wanted to have. We ordered a very nice bottle of wine at the suggestion of our waiter, and proceeded to order dinner. Everything came out quickly and was wonderful. My husband ordered the ribeye steak and I tasted bite of it and it was really good. I'm not a big meat eater, so I had six oysters that were from Baja California and were excellent. I then ordered muscles in a cream sauce that was delightful. We saw some other desserts, come out, but didn't order any. Kind of wish I had, as they looked very delicious. Fun, dinner downtown where we could watch street dancers and drummers and a karaoke person right in front of us on the street. If you're there, you should try it.

Mike S.

Yelp
Great spot in the middle of Sayulita. Menu has a lot of good options, best salads in town.

James N.

Yelp
Great food, friendly staff, nice environment, and take credit cards. Check, check , and check. We went once for lunch and back again for dinner. Favorite dishes were: Appetizer - Calamari Entree - ceviche and the pizza

Amber W.

Yelp
The food was amazing! My husband and I ordered La Jefa and Trufa pastas. Both were so well made and a perfect portion. We had the caramel flan for dessert and it was to die for! I will be dreaming of it! The service was so kind and friendly! They were very attentive and spoke English. One thing to note is that they only accept pesos or credit cards. Ambiance was great! It as very aesthetic and well staffed. Super clean and very artisan style looking. Be aware that they have no A/C, so come in breathable clothes. It was amazing!

Amanda J.

Yelp
Best crafted cocktails in Sayulita. Try the carajillo if espresso drinks are your thing. We were seated as a table of 13 just outside the restaurant. The staff was attentive and friendly at the dark bar and entry way. If there was music on the main floor it was drowned out by the mellow sounds of the talented guitarist playing outside. The staff helped with cocktail recommendations and food substitutes for those who were vegan and gluten free. This is one of the more upscale restaurants in the area featuring Italian food. The salad and pizza portions are shareable. The pastas are petite, but the flavors and sauces are rich and filling. The focaccia slices served with olive tapenade are less fluffy than crisp and carry that olive oil flavor that's familiar on all focaccia breads. The pizza dough tastes like light crisp and fermented dough. This is the kind of pizza that will not sit in your gut and each slice was loaded with fresh ingredients like mushrooms, arugula, grilled veggies. In the evening there is a club on the top floor where we spent most of our weekend. Thursday nights had a house music scene and Saturday was reggaeton. The house music had very recognizable American songs, but less lyrics and more beats. Saturday's reggaeton tones were a bit monotonous after so many hours. The dj should have added some variation to appeal to full crowd. I do think this restaurant is a solid choice for a visit in Sayulita and the lounge upstairs is a fun way to kick off the night.

Nancy B.

Yelp
I really didn't understand all the high reviews. Must be from tourists that we're looking for "American" type food. It's pizza that isn't the best and decent pasta. It was expensive compared to all the other restaurants in the area. Drinks were watered down with barely any alcohol. I would skip this place and go try some authentic tacos instead. And if you're wanting a change in food, I would look elsewhere. My meal was just okay small portions for the price.

Diana M.

Yelp
La comida fue estupenda. Realmente fui muy impresionada con todo el ambienté , los empleados muy profesional con su servicio, la ubicación y la comida era tan sabrosa. Quisiera regresar a este restaurante si ay oportunidad. Lo recomiendo

Cathy R.

Yelp
Everything was amazing. Service food all excellent!!! We were here for three days and went there twice.

Debi T.

Yelp
Awesome service and really good food. We had pizzas and Caesar salad. We'll be going back to try their dinner menu.

Sirena Z.

Yelp
Tried this local pizza place. It was good! The tuna tartare was delicious and pizza was very good. The pizza is a thin sliced which we prefer.

Justin T.

Yelp
I enjoyed trying this modern pizza joint in the heart of Sayulita. The open air restaurant is decorated nicely and clean. Even better were the good service and food! We had the Sayulita pizza, which was yummy. We also started with the Ramos salad, also very good (a bit heavy on the dressing). We got a coffee and banana and chocolate cake to go. Coffee was good; cake was dry.

Janae' L.

Yelp
Food was not as good as goes but we're very busy. Upstairs seems like a place for younger folks. It was filling up.

Julian G.

Yelp
5 Stars for offering both a lively environment and connected to Hulasayula Bar upstairs that is always a hit when I bring friends to Sayulitas. For brunch I've been craving a breakfast sandwich and low and behold, there it was. I look forward to dining here soon!

Mere M.

Yelp
Great, attentive service and delicious pizza! The cesar salad was simple but hit the spot. Recommend sitting in the front dining area versus the back. We had the veggie pizza and loved it!

Fernando A.

Yelp
My wife and I had a good dinner at Rustica. I know, why are we in Mexico and eating Italian food? But, my wife wanted something different. I had one of the specials, which was an el dorado (mahi) fillet with squid ink risotto. It was very fresh and cooked nicely. Maybe on the salty side, but that may be the squid ink. My wife had a pizza with shrimp, jalapeños, and avocado which was also quite good. We both had their house sangria that had a touch of ginger flavor in it. Rustica is on the main drag and is one of the pricier spots in Sayulita. It wasn't quite the gem as our previous dinner, but still a good spot if you don't want traditional mexican food. They also take credit cards, which is convenient for travelers.

Deanna P.

Yelp
The quality of the food was mediocre and the preparation and presentation was sloppy The management team was not interested in accommodating a large number [10] and made the enjoyment difficult The good points, the pizza was good
