La Scelta di Goethe

"How did it strike you on arrival? With a simple, inconspicuous door on Rome’s main shopping street, Via del Corso, La Scelta di Goethe certainly has the art of privacy down pat. Daniel, the property manager, meets you on the street and whisks you upstairs to your apartment—and that’s where the magic truly begins. Nice. What’s the crowd like?Money’s no object for guests here, but they’re after privacy and luxury, rather than anything ostentatious. Think surgeons, barristers, stockbrokers. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. There are three suites to choose from: Goethe’s Home, the Trinità dei Monti Suite, and the Villa Medici Suite. The latter is 426-square-feet of pure, unadulterated luxury. First up, you’re greeted with Champagne on ice, and artisanal chocolates. Wander into the dining room and you’ll see a table set for up to 10 people, should you fancy throwing a dinner party. And of course you can, thanks to the 24-hour butler service just down the hall. Décor wise, there’s plenty of marble, gold, and polished wood—plus art, fresh flowers, and soft blankets dotted about the rooms. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Everything is Frette, so it’s all gloriously comfortable. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? The 24-hour butler service is exceptional, no whim too extravagant, no midnight craving too difficult. Breakfast (warm pastries, fruit, yogurt, fresh juice, frothy cappuccinos) is served in the private dining room, and they can magic up any other meal you’d like, with matching wines and sensational desserts. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. There’s a hydro massage so good you won’t ever need step foot into a spa again, and the Turkish bath is wonderfully relaxing, too. The products are from luxury Florentine pharmacy Santa Maria Novella, and wrapped in packaging so beautiful you’ll want to take them home. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Wi-Fi is free, of course, and there are iPads in every room that you can use. This is your home, after all. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why?The butler and concierge team are marvelous, able to arrange anything from a city tour to a gym pass. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.The team here can cater to your every whim: they’ll bring you a handcrafted cot for your baby, or arrange a private driver to chauffeur you to your next destination. There are no pools or on-site bars—rather, this is about living like a star, with meals and drinks prepared for you, and spa, clubs, and restaurants privately booked for you. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? The 24-hour butler service is second to none, and the staff go well beyond their roles to ensure a perfect stay." - Maresa Manara

We spent four nights at La Scelta di Goethe over the holidays. There was only one problem -- we loved being in the rooms so much it was hard to leave to explore Rome!! Daniel and his team were so helpful both before we arrived and during our stay. Before we arrived, Daniel helped organize tours and book restaurants. All of his recommendations were terrific. The rooms are elegant yet so comfortable. The two bedroom apartment was perfect for our family of five. A great option is to have dinner in the apartment one night -- cooked by Daniel and his team. The meal they did rivaled the meals we had out in Rome.

The rooms and terraces are fantastic however what sets it apart is the service, especially Angela who was so lovely, she made sure my restrictive diet was catered for, even the delicious cake baked everyday as part of the amazing breakfast was without wheat and diary. She always went that bit extra, which you would never get in a hotel. Loved our time here and would definitely go back.

Traveled as a family of four with two children ages 11 and 10. We have traveled to many luxury resorts/hotels. This place is about as good as it gets. The service is better than any Four Seasons, Ritz etc we have ever experienced. If you want a beautiful large room, want to experience true Rome from the best concierge in the city, go here. Worth every penny and just perfect.

Plastic surgeon and eye surgeon - used to staying in nice places - this hotel made every other place we have previously stayed in look very basic, including Hotel Danieli in Venice (where I am currently writing this from).||||I booked this through the Qantas website based on the recommendations of others. The price was very reasonable for what was proposed - a two bedroom suite on Via Del Corso in the middle of Rome. I was traveling with my wife and three children (ages 10, 8 and 2) and it was difficult to find anything larger than two bedrooms without having to go to airbnb etc.||||We arrived on Sunday December 20 in the afternoon. Daniel, the hotel's manager, met us at the front door, took our bags, and called the lift. Upon opening on the top floor we were greeted by two other staff at the front door of our apartment - they opened the door to present us with a long corridor with a fresh christmas tree at the end of it. A bottle of Moet was on ice in the large high-ceiling lounge room, along with fresh orange juice for our children and locally-sourced chocolates (for the adults, of course). Our bags arrived within minutes and were taken to our rooms, and we were left in peace to take in our surroundings....||||The quality of this apartment really surprised us. The furnishings are very expensive, with Frette sheets and blankets everywhere. The toiletries are all from a perfumery in Florence that has been in existence since 1612 - all organic, and all amazing. The beds were comfortable, the air-conditioning was perfect, the tiles were heated, the fit-out was VERY new. Our two year-old required a cot. We usually receive a portable piece of steel/plastic with a rubber mattress - at this hotel they provided a beautiful wooden cot with a complete sheet set, and matching dressing gown and slippers of course :)||||The best though was what was to come - the service. A small door leading from the main corridor provided access to a 24 hour butler service. Meals, drinks, milk for our 2 year-old, anything - it was all accessible with a small knock on the door, anytime of the day. They prepared incredible meals for us, with breakfast each day within the private dining room that I am still amazed at. The dinners were so impressive that we ate in every night - no point eating out when you can have a 5 star meal in your pyjamas! The wine selection was beautiful, the desserts were stunning... It was perfect.||||The service didn't just end there either. On the day of departure Daniel arranged the hotel driver to take us to the Roma Termini train station for our transfer to Lake Como. He came with us, helping me with our bags, and came all the way through the check-in gates to the train to help load them onto the train. I have never experienced that level of service before - incredible.||||Anyway, as you can probably guess we cannot speak any higher of our experience at this hotel. It is beautiful.

Daniel and team were everything we could hope for and more. Strongly recommend. Location was convenient, breakfast was delicious, and views from the balconies and terrace were perfect. We often felt it was so relaxing at La Scelta di Goethe that we did not want to leave to explore the city!

The hospitality, care, attention to detail was faultless. Daniel and Valeria could not do enough for us, even before we arrived. The accommodation was superb, breakfast beyond fantastic and the location could not have suited us better. Complimenti.

Boutique hotel with two suites on the top floor of a building in a busy central street. No room service, but has snacks, drinks, and better service than any other hotel I’ve stayed at. Ideal location, most sights and shops were a 5-15 minute walk away.
