Yesterday was a day full of hit-or-miss customer service, and this was a HUGE miss for us.
We had stopped here on our first day of checking out wineries in the area, and decided to come back later as there was a movie set wrapping up at the location (how cool is that! No idea what movie) and the space was super tight. No problem - the gal told us they have a "picnic license" and encouraged us to come back with some cheese or snacks and enjoy a picnic while tasting/ buying a bottle to enjoy on the deck following. Sold!
Revisit the following day on our way out of town. As encouraged, we stopped at a local deli and picked up some cheese and salami etc. Walk into the winery in shorts and tees, carrying our white plastic sack of snacks and ask at the counter if we can grab an empty table on the deck to do our tasting. Head out that way. Are ignored for 10-15 minutes. Sit back and relax, as there are a few groups finishing up that are chit-chatty, no problem.
Guy finally comes over to do our tasting and my impression is he assessed our casual dress and plastic bag of snacks, and decided right then and there to just perform the tasting and be done with us. He poured our wines, told us his 45 second spiel about each pour, and got the heck out of dodge. Never came back to check if we wanted to enjoy a bottle (we did) or if we had any additional questions about the wines (we did) or just anything even remotely friendly or welcoming.
BF goes to get our dog, brings him into me then goes inside to the counter to purchase our bottle we wanted to enjoy. Dog is tired, it's been a long day. Drunk customer wanders past on his way out after tasting, leans forward and down with his hand extended (anyone with dogs knows this is not ok!) dog reactively growls and backs up. First sign of attention from the staff for us! Dog is requested to leave (I get it, he is a reactive dog NOT aggressive but I totally get it, no problem) instead of putting dog in the car I said F it, we're all leaving.
I think this winery thinks they are better than they are and it is therefore ok for them to prejudge their customers - not sure if shorts/ tees are too casual in their eyes, or if the plastic sack was a turn off (don't say bring in a picnic then!), or if the guy we had is just rude in general. In any case, we found several other wineries we enjoyed immensely on this trip and won't be back here.
