15 Best Tapas Bars in Madrid | Condé Nast Traveler

"Arguably Madrid's top beer bar, La Tape is a non-negotiable stop for beer lovers and home brewers, but even if you cheat and go for a glass of wine and a few tapas, you'll no doubt dig the unbuttoned, breezy atmosphere. The menu is crowd-pleasing through and through with dishes both Spanish—the most heavenly ensaladilla rusa (tuna-y potato salad) in town—and international (think pesto-slathered burrata and artichoke tempura). Arguably Madrid's top beer bar, La Tape is a non-negotiable stop for beer lovers and home brewers, but even if you cheat and go for a glass of wine and a few tapas, you'll no doubt dig the unbuttoned, breezy atmosphere." - Benjamin Kemper

We had one of the best meals I've had in a long time at La Tape, period. That is a statement without any caveats, so coupled with the fact my wife was diagnosed with celiac a few years ago and the entire kitchen is gluten free - it was one of the singular most impressive restaurant experiences we've ever had. Every dish was exceptional in composition and flavor, and the brioche was a gluten free masterwork. To top it off, there was a wide selection of both draft and bottled gluten free beers (my wife has greatly missed getting beer out since her diagnosis) and the service was friendly and helpful. Cannot recommend La Tape strongly enough to everyone, and if you are avoiding gluten it is worth making a pilgrimage to experience.

Had a great prawn taco and a delicious eggplant with cheese. They have a large variety of beers, including gluten free. Love it

Google
Definitely suggest the avocado and salmon. They have some good craft beers on tap. The bartender was really into pairing beer with food and individuals beer tastes. also got some cans to go.

Google
The place is super central and convenient if you have an activity in the centre like theatre or cinema, and one of the waitresses is absolutely lovely. Quick service! Quality of the food was not exceptional, the braised eggplant was quite good but the rest was frankly quite average. The cheese board was quite disappointing, maybe not necessarily in the quantity, but rather in the display (a smaller board could have done!)

Had an amazing experience here! I’m living in Madrid for a few months to study, and I can tell this will become a regular spot. Kevin was so kind, and even treated us to a glass of wine after our meal. Definitely recommend for delicious tapas and drinks!

Google
Tasty food but high prices with little food. The most expensive thing in comparison with the amount of food was the “brioche de rabo de toro”, incredible pricey for two bites of food. I added a picture with my watch so you can compare

Google
Overall it was a really nice experience, but, with a few little notes; the French fries were a little too greasy and salty also the salted chocolate sauce of chocolate death dessert had a little too much salt.

Google
Amazing gluten free menu with many different options to choose from. I always recommend this place as the food and service are simply exceptional. Looking forward to try their morning brunches soon :)

Yelp
My wife and I stopped here for an early lunch and chose it specifically because they have craft beer, which isn't quite as common as any city in the US. As a bonus, they focus on creating food that is gluten free. For beer we had a lager by La Virgen. It was a good drinkable beer. For entrees we had grilled chicken with beetroot gnocchi and Roasted Eggplant with goat cheese pomegranate honey and peppermint. The food was very good and nicely prepared with mild natural flavors from the ingredients. Odds and ends. They have bathrooms. They make sure there are foot rests at all table heights which is a nice touch. Also, they have a larger eating area on the second floor. There are hundreds of places to eat around Madrid, but we found LA Tape to offer a unique take on food preparation that has it stand out compared to many that sell local traditional fare.

Yelp
We were here for an hour and a half on the patio and got nearly 0 service. Now I know Spanish service is much more relaxed, and I understand that, but we had to walk inside multiple times to get service. Not to mention that we had to pay a 15% terrace charge (which I know was mentioned on the menu but we didn't know) which doesn't make any sense because we got nearly 0 service. We were interested in the menu del día, but once we wanted to order they were all done with it for the day. We wish they would have taken the sign down accordingly. The portions were a bit small, not necessarily a negative thing but important to note for a €17 plate. We ordered the muerte por chocolate dessert as we finished eating because we knew a waitress might not be back outside for a bit. After 25 minutes or so we had nothing. Not to mention there were only two other small tables outside and nearly no one inside. We went inside to ask and they started making it and it still took 10-15 minutes and tasted bad. We do not recommend. Not all these things make this a bad restaurant but all together it was a bad experience. I wouldn't recommend for anything more than a quick coffee, drink, or tapa. especially seating outside.

Yelp
Atmosphere is pretty good. The food looks good. The wait staff is decent. Pleasant. I like the place. Across the street from the apartment where I'm staying at ROISA apartment.

Yelp
Excellent find in Madrid! Off the beaten path away from Gran Via. Food was excellent, ambience was perfect! Our favorites were the eggplant with goat cheese, ensalata rusa and rice with pork. Ended with a perfect cafe con leche.

Yelp
We chose this place for lunch because we knew they had a good craft beer selection. Not only was the draft/bottle beer selection great, but the food and service was even better. Our server was very friendly and also very patient when I ordered and spoke to him completely in Spanish. Many times, they try to speak back to you in English, but he made conversation with me about beer as well, so that was very nice. We started with Croquetas cremosas de jamon and the Tabla de quesos artesanales. The croquettes were creamy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The cheese board was substantial, even for 4 people. It had everything from blue cheese to smoked gouda to goat cheese. We ordered the plumo de cerdo iberico for the main coarse. The pork was juicy and so tender. We were all very impressed that pork could be that tender.

Yelp
All I have to say is you gotta get the burger. Just satisfying and nice and juicy. Toasted bun is a plus. Also great beer!

Yelp
Excellent restaurant! We were lucky to come across this restaurant that would accept 30 people. Our last restaurant didn't confirm our booking and we were left stranded not knowing where to go. Thank god this restaurant had the entire top floor vacant. Thats beside the point. Their service was excellent. Quick and super organised. They let us know in advance that the kitchen is small and we had to wait cause we were a big group, but they got all our drinks in and made sure everyone had a beverage. Our tapas came, and it didn't feel like it took long. Let me just say that the food here is delicious. I loved the salted beef, cheese with baby baguettes and the croquettes. Very impressed with their service here. Kudos guys!

Yelp
It is a rather good place for craft beers. They don't have many beers on taps but prices are rather good and you get complimentary tapas with your order.

Yelp
Visited this place twice while on vacation in Madrid. I am from the US. Pros: patio seating, quick service, great carrot cake, great location, great hours. Cons: sangrias were not the best, although my partner, who is a lightweight anyway, loved it. Also, we ate the salmon and avocado tapas dishes from the Thursday night, Friday and Saturday menu. I'm sure they are supposed to be served cold, but it was quite a shock when we sunk our teeth in. Not what we expected. However, the carrot cake was AMAZING! Not our first choice but we would go again, as the pros are good ones, and their service is pretty good.

Yelp
Awesome craft beer selection, high end food for fair prices, and wonderful wait staff that never fail to be fun and accommodating. I have been in Madrid for a month, and I visit La Tape several times a week because of its consistency and laid back atmosphere. I recommend this place highly for anyone who loves good food and good beer. Never disappoints!!

Yelp
I returned recently for dinner with guests. They do great mushroom croquetas, and the carrot cake was extremely moresome! The beer selection had been switched up and I noticed they have a little streetside seating going on now.

Yelp
I am a native English speaker and don't know any Spanish, so there was a pretty substantial language barrier for me here. However, after some trouble deciding what to order, we got the shark/soup combo and the Vietnamese sandwich. The atmosphere here is so cool. Lot's of bike decor, and an overall clean and trendy look. I especially loved the Vietnamese sandwich I got. I wish I could find something similar closer to home.

Yelp
Came in for breakfast on a whim. Super friendly and delicious food. Loved the tortilla. A++

Yelp
This place is really fantastic. It was recommended to me by an expat Irish sausage maker while we sat sharing a couple pints in Fábrica Maravillas (also very good). If you are looking for a place with good craft beer on tap checkout La Tape. When I came they had two Founders beers on tap (being from MI that brewery has a special place in my heart). The bar tenders were friendly. Plus, they still practice the very sensible tradition of giving a free tapa with your drink. Nice place, I will visit it again next time I come to Madrid.

Yelp
Good beer, friendly service and almost always open. If you are around for breakfast, try the toast with tomato and olive oil. Why don't we have that as part of our breakfast in the US is beyond me. Delicious!

Yelp
GOOD BEER! When you're sick of Mahou go here! Also order the Secreto Iberico, I promise you will not regret it! Downstairs is more casual and upstairs has a very cute and somewhat romantic dining room, be sure to make a reservation if you're bringing a special someone!
