We arrived a bit early to the lunch service and had to wait about 40 minutes in front of the restaurant, but we didn't mind it so much. When they sat us down, we were immediately greeted and attended by a wonderful waiter who was very funny and diligent. We ordered a couple of sides instead of appetizers (roasted potatoes and the zucchini), and then had a pasta carbonara and steak for the main course. All of the food was delicious and came with large portions. We were able to eat our leftovers for dinner later that evening at the airport because the quality was so good! At one point the chef came out and everyone applauded, he served another table his famous pasta carbonara and it was a great atmosphere. For dessert, our waiter gave us a free tiramisu to share and it was the perfect amount of sweetness to finish the meal. We will definitely go back anytime we're in Rome!

The food here is simply outstanding – absolutely unforgettable flavors that melt in your mouth. Although we waited about 1.5 hours for a table on the first day, we came back the next day just for the food. It was that good. We were a group of 8, and even though the restaurant doesn’t have tables that large, the staff made a real effort. The first day, they seated us close to each other, and the second day, they combined tables so we could all sit together. The staff were incredibly friendly and clearly professionals in what they do. The atmosphere is cozy and charming. The only downside was a small mistake on the bill – a few extra drinks were added, which we didn’t notice until later. But overall, the experience was excellent, and if I visit Rome again, I will definitely come back!

Google
Amazing food. Tried three different pastas and all were amazing with some of them being the best i have had as a cook. The line goes by fast. Been there three times in one week. Cheap.

Delicious Food!!! The food here is absolutely amazing, and the prices are very fair for the quality you get. Alex, our server, was friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. The rest of the staff were also very welcoming. It can get quite busy at times, so I recommend going right when the restaurant opens to avoid the crowds and get the best experience.

We had the most unforgettable dining experience at La Tavernetta 29 da Tony e Andrea! After a 16-hour flight from Indonesia, this place made it absolutely worth it. The Italian cuisine here is top-notch — probably the best we've ever had! We ordered the Spaghetti alla Carbonara, Ravioli al Tartufo, Risotto agli Scampi, and Saltimbocca alla Romana — every dish was cooked to perfection, full of authentic flavor and passion. A special shoutout to Alex, our waiter, who truly made our night. He's a legend! Friendly, attentive, and gave us an experience we’ll never forget. We’re already planning to come back and can’t recommend this gem enough to anyone visiting Rome. Don’t miss it!

The experience of the Chef didn’t happen Ashe didn’t show up. Food: Overall, disappointing. The beef was undercooked and tough to chew, the bread was hard, although the pasta was the only redeeming item. Price: Overpriced for the quality and experience. Ambience: The lighting was harsh, the decor lacked any charm, and the place was uncomfortably crowded. Service: While the service inside was decent, the experience at the entrance was shockingly unprofessional. The queue manager repeatedly came out to tell us we might not get a table, instead of giving a clear answer. It felt like the restaurant prioritized its own convenience over the comfort of hungry guests waiting outside. They could easily count and inform guests early on if there’s no chance of dining, instead of keeping everyone standing until the last table is filled. Verdict: Definitely not coming back.

Google
This place was the cutest and most amazing place we ate at in Rome! We were so hungry when we got there and hesitant to wait when we found a line when we got there, but SO GLAD WE DID! The line went fast and the food was fantastic. And Khaled, who I assume is the owner or manager, had the busy restaurant down to a finely tuned machine. He was fabulous and the entire staff was so sweet. I’m so sad it’s our last night here, because I’d definitely come again! Also their pistachio mascarpone dessert was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted!

Google
My husband and I loved our meal here. Service was great. The food was amazing. It looked like everyone was enjoying their meal, it was busy but it didn’t seem to put a strain on the service. The inside was quite smoky, it was just a bit hard to breathe due to lack of ventilation.

Yelp
Tony really put on a show for us. The food was amazing with generous portions. Authentic Italian cuisine. The team of cooks and chefs nailed it. Great little neighborhood place and the staff felt like family. All this and the prices were packed with value. It was our family's favorite meal of the entire 10 day trip. Gratzie Tony!!

Jason S.

Yelp
The best meal of my life. Amazing service and ambiance. I will fly back to Rome just to have dinner here.

Yelp
The food was amazing and Tony and his staff deliver phenomenal service! It was a recommendation from a friend.

Anna G.

Yelp
It was tough to get a table, but we finally did (during lunch). The grilled sea bass was delicous! Roman and Sheikh provided warm, friendly, and professional service on a hot day in Rome. This place gets very crowded and is very popular. My only complaint was that, in a summer of record heat, it was 'close' smelling. But Trastavere is in general. Lots of people all the time, and little air flow. I would not give 4 stars for 'ambiance' [AI did that above]. This place is authentically lots of tables tucked in corners, but it was unpretentious and real. No doubt the chefs know what they are doing, just be prepared to be rather tightly seated. The lemon ice surprise at the end was very delicious and a nice touch!

Shawna M.

Yelp
This was the absolute best restaurant in Trastevere Rome! We were in Italy for 18 days including Venice and Florence. So lucky to find it on our last night. Tony the owner was very present and worked so hard at making sure everyone got seated and served! The Vodka Pasta and Mushroom ravioli was amazing.

Yelp
This restaurant was located right outside of my air bnb and I'm glad I decided to dine because it was really good. Their carbonara pasta was simply amazing and flavorful. The lamb was cooked beautifully! I was really surprised at the portion size for such a reasonable price. These plates are shareable, or at least that's what happened with the people I dined with lol...the food was too good we had to sample it all. Recommend

Yelp
A friend recommended this place when they heard we were coming to Rome and I am so glad she did. In the cutest area to walk around, and once you walk in the service is on point! Very kind & even gave us a free dessert at the end. We ordered a house red wine, water, truffle ravioli, spaghetti carbonara, and the veal dish with gorgonzola sauce and it was all delicious! If we went back and had to choose 1 dish it would hands down be the truffle ravioli, but you won't be disappointed with any dish you order.

Yelp
I very much recommend this restaurant! It's a little off the path, but easy find. There are few outside tables but the inside is nice! It seems to be family run and everyone was attentive and friendly. The food was amazing. My husband and I shared the mixed seafood appetizer, a salad, and both the steak and lasagna dinners. Everything was EXCELLENT. You are quickly greeted with fresh homemade bread and olive oil. The seafood appetizer was simple and light yet so so delicious. The steak came out sizzling in the pan and was the most tender and delicious steak I may have ever had in my life. Seriously, if you're a steak lover, you will not be disappointed. And the lasagna....well, that everything I hoped for and more. The salad was a simple garden salad but very fresh and plentiful. Last but not least....the tiramisu...it was just perfect. This was the best meal we've had in Rome. We definitely hope to return!

Yelp
We landed at Tavernetta 29 on the last night of our trip at the recommendation of a family friend, and we're able to make a reservation the same afternoon. As we sat at dinner reminiscing on our time in Italy, I asked everyone their favorite meal of the trip... however, those answers quickly changed after we had our absolutely INCREDIBLE dinner here! We opted to sit outside in the piazza, where four of the neighbor restaurants have dining areas clustered, making for a fun ambiance of people (and food!) watching. We started with a bottle of house white wine and the best bread we had all trip. They brought olive oil, balsamic and Parmesan (the only restaurant to do this), which was appreciated for dipping. Our family enjoyed cacio e pepe (made with rigatoni), carbonara, chicken parmesan and veal scallopini--each member absolutely raving about their dish, and others that they sampled! This restaurant was by far the most "local" and "authentic" feeling we experienced, and all staff was friendly, attentive and efficient. They have a nice menu with very reasonable prices for such delicious dishes. Cannot recommend going here enough, and already longing to go back!

Yelp
Well I don't usually go for the throat on a review but this restaurant was horrible. While the average review score is somewhat high, some of the other reviews have noted some red flags in food quality. Sat outside and ordered a glass of house white wine, barely palatable. The bread was also tasteless and soft. Ordered the caprese salad and it was the worst of my life. A few tiny bits of wilted basil, tomatoes with the butts and round skins still on, some random cheese other than mozzarella, no olive oil and no balsamic added. Just horrendous. Main course was veal with a lemon sauce... while decent flavor it was poorly plated with soggy roast potatoes and a few random veggies. Ordered a draft Italian beer with the meal and that took about 10 minutes after I reminded them. All in all was a horrible first meal in Rome. I hope to not make the same mistake again :[

Yelp
The best pasta that I had on my entire trip to Italy. I'm sad that I didn't find out about this restaurant sooner. It's a friendly and intimate atmosphere. I got the spaghetti alle vongole and it came with so many clams! The sauce was so flavorful and the noodles were cooked to perfection! Our waiter was so kind and the chef came out and spoke to us, he has a lot of pride in his food, with good reason!! If you are coming to Rome, def put his restaurant on your bucket list!

Yelp
Excellent location with fantastic food and service. Deserts are ok. Will definable go again.

Yelp
The ratings are a mystery to me. This place was subpar in every way. Stale bread, amatriciana tasted like tomato paste, lamb was waayayyyyy overcooked. Oh, and they charged a coperto, which is banned in Lazio.

Mayra T.

Yelp
Amazing food! The service was immaculate. Freshest pasta ! We had the carbonara, ravioli, and lasagna and they were 100000000/10! Way better than the tik tok viral places.

Yelp
I cannot say enough good things about La Tavernetta 29! The owner, Tony, is so passionate and dedicated to what he does and it is so obvious! To start we had Caprese Salad which was delicious and then for the main course I had Penne alla Vodka and it was the best Penne alla Vodka I have ever had! Seriously it was the perfect ratio of cream and the fresh parmesan on the table made it ever better. I'm still thinking about the Penne alla Vodka. Then, I got Tiramisu, which was equally to die for. Tony came out to check on us a few times and even wished my dad a Happy Birthday with a bottle of Prosecco! Incredible staff, incredible food, overall an amazing experience! If you are in Rome, you must stop by!!!! We are early eaters and had a party of 8 and went at 5pm and were sat right away - it got busy towards 7pm/7:30pm so beware!

Stephen W.

Yelp
Our favorite restaurant in Trastevere. The Carbonara is wonderful. The service is top notch. The price is reasonable. The staff is friendly. We go there every time we come to Rome.

Seth H.

Yelp
Ravioli truffle was outstanding! We sat outside under umbrellas and we could smell jasmine as each breeze came through. This was my favorite meal in Rome! The waitstaff took excellent care of us and we left with our bellies stuffed. Great prices and great place after a full day of walking.

Yelp
Phenomenal dinner at La Tavernetta! The service was top notch and the food was *chefs kiss*... while in Venice and Paris we found ourselves wishing we were eating here again, best pasta in Roma!

ysabella e.

Yelp
I was in Rome for 3 days and this was hands down the best spot I went to. I ended up going twice. Every other place I went I compared to here and none lived up. I would highly recommend going here.

Benajamin H.

Yelp
A solid meh, all these "best pasta I've ever had" reviews are incredibly misleading to me. We got the cacio e pepe (didn't even have fresh cracked black pepper) and the Amatriciana, along with the tiramisu - all passable but nothing to write home or rave on yelp about. Clearly a tourist trap, not a local in sight.

Yelp
La Tavernetta 29 da Tony e Andrea, or as we affectionately know it, "Tony's" has the best food and service in Rome. They are located in the charming neighborhood of Trastevere which is filled with picturesque winding Roman streets and Ivy covered buildings. But enough about the neighborhood let's get onto the food! Tony's has the hands down best food in Rome. The distance between them and second place isn't even close. And if you are accustomed to Italian-American dishes, worry not because they have plenty for you too. Tony's has the most delicious Penne Alla Vodka and Chicken Parmesan I've had in Italy or the U.S.. And if all that wasn't enough for you, their service will surely win you over. Bibo was our waiter and he was charming, helpful and lighthearted. He was quick with a joke or to take your order and he made us feel right at home eating at Tony's. I truly can't say enough about how well Bibo treated us. And if you are lucky you will also get to meet the owner, Tony, as he has taken my order and waited on my table on more than a few occasions. Tony brings the kind of charisma to his restaurant that every Italian restaurant owner should bring. In the end he leaves you feeling like you had the true Italian culinary experience and that is something special. If you are looking for a place to eat in Rome, I assure you, Tony's will exceed your expectations.

Yelp
The ravioli with truffle sauce is the BEST PASTA I've ever eaten in my entire life!! I'd also like to add that Alex is an amazing host.
google avatar

Madeline S.

Yelp
I am not sure if words can describe the cuisine, the experience, or the atmosphere at Tony's. Of course, you're in Italy, so the staff is naturally welcoming, the food is unequivocally fantastic, and the environment is sociable and vibrant. This spot in Trastevere is a favorite among my father and his coworkers whenever they are in Rome, for it is perfect for group gatherings with the option to have practically the whole antipasti menu spread across the table. I was overwhelmed by the spread, but excitedly overwhelmed. The selection covered all aspects of the traditional expectation of an Italian meal, of course with unique flavors and twists on certain dishes. Please, please, PLEASE don't pass up on a dinner at Tony's. Here, especially, it isn't just about the amazing food, it's truly about the experience!

Luke C.

Yelp
Solid home cooked italian. What you would expect from a very busy restaurant designed to appeal to the (mostly American) masses in trendy Travestere? They no longer serve pizza (pity) and had run out of several of the interesting items but that made me feel somewhat reassured they were serving fresh food. Would come here for casual meal.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic food and service! Eating under a tree and awning in the middle of a square - priceless! Brought my two daughters and enjoyed the crew special. More delicious food than we could eat. A must restaurant if you are hungry, enjoy Italian food and love to people watch!!

Chloé B.

Yelp
Amazing service and great food. Loved the tiramisu so much I ate 2 of them. The atmosphere is also super friendly and has a great feel.

Yelp
This restaurant we passed by many times on our way into the City as it was a few steps away from our hotel, but for some reason never really looked at it until we were too tired from our daily walks to look for a restaurant to eat at and the hotel clerk suggested it. Did we feel like dummies for not eating here sooner! Incredible, friendly service and even though our server did not speak English, we got by with our broken Italian, a mix of Spanish and his limited English. He recommended dishes and kept checking in on us to see if we wanted more water, bread, etc. But the food, oh my gosh, was just incredible and delicious and had plenty of variety to choose from! Even my very picky stepdaughter loooved her dish (lasagna) and she never eats lasagna but we encouraged her to try something different! I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Rome or staying in the Trastevere area!

Yelp
La Tavernetta has easily become my favorite restaurant in all of Rome. The comforting atmosphere and amazing food are always present and combine to create a pleasurable experience. Alex specifically always makes sure that he is attentive and friendly to everyone. I recommend the Trippa allá Romana, Carbonara, or the Lasagne allá Bolognese.

Talon E.

Yelp
Alex was an amazing waiter. Ask him for his recommendations and let him do the rest. Can not recommend this place enough.

Jody P.

Yelp
I don't usually post reviews (looks like somehow I have 2 accounts, because I have no reviews anymore?) but... Need to even the score out here a bit. Cannot believe all the 5 stars. They have several entryways, and share patio seating with other restaurants, so impossible to really know which restaurant you're eating t . The trap door had beautiful looking meats in a case that were definitely not what was served. Pastas could have come from an American freezer aisle. They didn't have half of what we ordered (didn't have any linguine or fettuccini?). And this wasn't a "our artisan handmade pasta ran out situation the place is a revolving door tourist trap disguised as a nice trastavere restaurant (or 3). My wife asked for a decent red wine and they brought a lukewarm bottle of garbage white table wine. It was over 102F for a good part of the day and still hot and muggy in the evening :/ far from refreshing. The icing on the cake, the table across from us were disappointed that the items they wanted on the menu weren't available, and said they'd just finish their drink and leave... the waiter got extremely aggressive and made them take their drinks to the street to free up the table for the next poor sucker on the way in. Last dinner in Rome, and the first time we got duped. At least it was fairly cheap (around 90€ after we had the dish we didn't order taken off our check).

Yelp
Another of my regulars in Rome! Best lasagna around town, it comes out piping hot with bubbling cheese. Their bruschetta is amazing- get the combo one so you can try all three toppings (even if you are not the biggest fan of mushrooms you will love theirs). Their house wine is so good as well! Great place for groups! The owners, Tony and Andrea, are amazing and always treat their customers with love. Everytime we would go they would either give us bottles of wine or bruschetta in addition to their amazing bread. Seriously so welcoming and delicious.

Amanda B.

Yelp
I came here because it was one of the only restaurants I could find in Rome that has penne alla vodka on their menu which is what I got and it came out great and did not disappoint. It was a bit busy when I went but I guess that's expected for a restaurant in Trastevere but I'm really happy I decided to come here while I was in Rome!
google avatar

Alyssa J.

Yelp
THE BEST RESTAURANT IN ROME. I came for spring break with my girlfriends and a friend highly recommended La Tavernetta for dinner. We were not disappointed! The food was INCREDIBLE - I had linguine with clams and woke up dreaming of it the next morning. The bread was tasty, the gnocchi to die for, and the complimentary tiramisu dessert was the icing on the cake. Not only was the food delicious, but it was clear that the restaurant was family-run and owned, and the waiters went out of their way to make us feel at home. The decor was cozy and the atmosphere was very cheerful, relaxed, and welcoming. Dinner portions were more than generous, and my friends were so enchanted by the restaurant that we tried to come back the next night for dinner, but it was completely booked! Eating here was definitely one of my favorite experiences in Rome - I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.
google avatar

Chelsea S.

Yelp
I had REALLY high expectations of this place, based on the glowing yelp reviews and a personal recommendation from some friends who had just visited. I was fully expecting our dinner her to be the highlight of our trip. We had a fine time eating at La Tavernetta, but it wasn't any more special than anywhere else we dined. Which makes me sad. We didn't have the pleasure of meeting Tony or Andrea, which may have contributed to our average experience. For a Saturday night at 8:00, it seemed pretty dead. We were also pushed in a small table in the corner away from the heart of the restaurant. The food was good! Just not the best we had. We really enjoyed the antipasto mista. I had the penne a la vodka and my boyfriend had the lasagna. Both were very generous portions and very good. You definitely get your money's worth here.
google avatar

Belma R.

Yelp
bread for starters, great. i got a vodka pasta and my mom got cacio e pepe, both were great. brother got a medium steak but it was entirely raw. we sent it back to get cooked more and they happily did. the desserts were lacking in flavor imo but overall good place

Yelp
Found this place to be pretty underwhelming. Food was hit or miss, service was mediocre to poor, and the ambience from the American music videos playing on TVs was rather strange. Went there for lunch, and ordered a Porcini pizza, the eggplant parm, and a half bottle of their house red. The eggplant parm wasn't ready, which started the underwhelming theme for the visit. We went with Rigatoni alla Tavernetta (their signature rigatoni?) instead, and it was rather good - creamy and a little bit spicy sauce with eggplant, mushrooms, and peppers. The "Porcini" pizza that came out was just a plain mushroom pizza though! It also wasn't cut, and when we asked if we could have something to cut it with, they took it back and cut it into quarters (still way too large to comfortably eat). For the wine, the waiter grabbed an already opened half bottle of red wine and then removed the half stuffed in rubber cork and presented us with the bottle. No idea if the wine in there was the wine of the bottle, or how long the bottle had been open. Definitely weirded me out a bit. I really enjoyed the pasta, but probably won't be back.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite restaurant of all time. I went to Tony's old restraint years ago and found out he opened another one. This is true local Italian food for a great price. My wife and I say how this is the best chicken parmigiana and lasagna we have ever had. Tony also makes the best tiramisu. When visiting Rome this restaurant is a must!

Joseph K.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Tony, Andrea and their crew go out of their way to make you feel at home! The antipasti they serve you before your entree will leave you bringing your entree home in a doggie bag. Nothing here is second rate! You are cheating yourself if you do not dine here!
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
Such a great atmosphere. Rolled in here with party of 8 on a Saturday night. Able to seat us within 15 minutes. Vibe was awesome, everyone there is loud, having good time. Great place for group dinners, not for kids. They were out of about half the menu, so we told the waiter to order for us. He did an excellent job. Salami and cheese plate was standard but still very good. Fried veggies were battered properly with good flavor. Caprese salad was fresh and delightful. Main course was steak. Honestly was a bit skeptical as I've had steak in Italy and it's usually average. This was pretty nice, cooked medium rare and very tender with good flavor. Definitely impressed given low expectations. Place is a must if you have a large party and visiting.

Yelp
Great service, and great food! Alex was awesome, and I recommend the chicken parm if you like chicken dishes! So yummy.

D Q.

Yelp
Food was fresh, excellent! Service was great too! Bibo and Shek took such great care of our family. Tony, the owner is on top of things; he is very involved and making sure everyone is enjoying. We had such a wonderful dining experience, we returned several times during our visit. The chicken parmigiana, spaghetti carbonara and seafood risotto were among our favorites. Also highly recommend their focaccia. It was so delicious!

Jasmine D.

Yelp
Best Italian food I've had in my entire life, all made from scratch, small intimate setting absolutely loved this place and will definitely be coming back

Ashley B.

Yelp
This is a very lively, fun restaurant with great food to match. Sat indoors with a big group and absolutely loved the food. Our waiter seemed to be rushing which ultimately messed up an order, but friends who have gone frequently have had amazing service from other staff members. Food is definitely up to par, got the truffle ravioli by recommendation and it was very good. Our entire group really enjoyed their food, and they consistently come back for more as they are staying in the area for an extended period of time. Sang for my birthday and brought us tiramisu and wine as a gift! Appreciated this very much. Wait wasn't long on a Thursday night, either. We honestly probably just waited because we were a larger group of 8. Would absolutely return anytime.

John A.

Yelp
Just GREAT. Our meal started off great with friendly and helpful service from Alex and it just got better when the food came. Fantastic menu and everything was delicious. Everything from the risotto scampi to the roasted lamb. And all at very fair prices. We loved it.
google avatar

Jamie M.

Yelp
I'll travel back to Rome just to have another meal here. Every dish (lamb, veal in lemon sauce, gnocchi, truffle ravioli, and ossobuco) were AMAZING. The staff was great and Tony the owner checked on us, like we were his personal guests. Sooooooo good.

Rosejune M.

Yelp
Alex was the man!!! He was very attentive and know what we want... Highly recommended.. food.. service.. atmosphere..everything was great! can't missed this place!

Yelp
We rented an apartment close to this place. We were so tired that day that we just want a pizza to go, the waiter (Indian) answered rudely "we don't do take out", he was sounding upset that we wanted a take out pizza. So we left. The following day we came back, with my kids. We asked if we can get the vodka sauce on one of the pasta and the waiter, (Italian this time) shook his head with annoyance that we want vodka sauce, I think they don't like to change the menu based on customers request. That's ok but there's always the right way to say. He was upset when we had to pick again from the menu after saying they can't do it, the Alfredo fettuccini pasta was on their menu but said it's not available that time. It was just so stressful with Their attitude. They are just not friendly at all. I told my husband, just pay that bottled water that's overpriced and let's leave. Will definitely not comeback. The food is good but not the best. There are other better places around.
google avatar

Konstantin B.

Yelp
Our group of 8 had a great time here. The atmosphere was jovial and lively without being raucous. The food is delicious, very reasonably priced, and portions are substantial. The staff was very friendly and we were provided complimentary wine, app, and deserts. This place is rated 4.5/5 on TripAdvisor, not sure why Yelp shows different.

Aparna N.

Yelp
We were in the neighborhood looking for an air conditioned place to eat ran across this one the menu seemed nice and the waiter Alex was very friendly and convincing. He was the reason why we went there. Food was good and service was even better. Quantity was very good as well and was pretty reasonable too. Would recommend

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended by hotel (Hotel Santa Maria) in Trastevere. As you can imagine pasta over and over can get tiresome. I asked for their recommendation and they recommended the steak with potatoes. What a steak!!!!! And the potatoes were delicious. The service here was extremely attentive and really felt first class. I highly recommend this restaurant which has a good Italian food with real Italian taste.
