"When we published our 50 States, 50 Cuisines project last year, I knew I'd be visiting Paterson, New Jersey, for Peruvian food. I finally made the day trip over from Brooklyn, which turned into hours of zigzagging down Market Street, eating everything we could find. We stopped at La Tia Delia (the aji de gallina, a creamy shredded chicken dish, and picante de mariscos, a mix of seafood in a spicy sauce, were highlights; they offer takeout); Los Inmortales (a shop with imported spices and fresh desserts, like chocolate-dipped marshmallow fluff known as beso de moza); and even grabbed syrup-covered picarones, doughnuts made of squash and sweet potato, that were fried fresh on the street."

I grew up on Market Street and have been eating here for about 30 years. I haven’t lived in Paterson for about 12 years but I still take the 1.5 hr ride at least once a month to eat here. The arroz chufia and lomo de pollo are absolutely amazing. This is a family owned establishment and you can taste it in the food.

Google
We stopped in to see the Paterson Falls and this little corner restaurant caught our eye. The meals were delicious and unique to our American food styled taste buds! Not a lot of English is spoken in this quaint Peruvian restaurant, but it's worth the trip.

Google
I was looking for something quick to eat for breakfast, and I came here based on the Google reviews. I opted for the Causa Rellena. It was fresh, delicious, and tasty, and flavors were spot on. There are a lot of other interesting dishes on the menu, and I would definitely come back.

Google
I wanted the authenticity and this is the place you get it. Not in a position to judge peruvian cuisine, but for the first timer tastes good. Specially the desert.

Yelp
Wanted to try something different so picked Peruvian. I don't know the cuisine intimately but the place felt authentic and the food was tasty. Would definitely go back just for the ceviche.

Yelp
Really great food, very fresh and delicious. The service was really good and they manage three little kids that were doing little kids things really well, they didn't get mad and were really nice with them. The ambiance it's very familiar.

Yandhira F.

Yelp
Delicious, authentic reminded me of Lima. I've been home sick and going to this place reminded me so much of home. The flavor. The papa a la huicaina it was just what i needed. The lomo saltado. Wow. Just wow. My boyfriend got arroz con pollo and it was amazing! Don't get too excited like us and not realize they have plates that have sides to come with. We didn't realize it till afterwards! They also sell tamales and empanadas and they were both really good!

Leslie M.

Yelp
Food is good but the customer service sucks. He's always having an attitude/ yelling. I called on the phone to place an order and i was confused so i was asking him stuff and he literally yelled at me saying he doesn't know what i want and to hold up. Not even 3 min into the call and he's yelling/ giving an attitude. This isn't the first time as well.

Yelp
Comfort food at its finest. Quick & decent service. It feels like you're at someone's home.

Yelp
What fun finding this historic Peruvian restaurant in Little Lima. We could feel the history upon walking in. Was our 2nd meal of the food tour day so went with their classic seafood ceviche that lived up to its fame with the freshest of shrimp, calamari, flounder etc in their lime and lemon tiger juice of the gods! Hello. Then went out of the box and tried the grilled cows heart and tripe that was definitely for the seasoned taste and a little out there. Their signature green/white condiment sauce was the winner to dip it all in! Now the surprise stars of the meal were the cold chica morada purple corn drink that had hints of cinnamon & cloves, plus the amazing light and fluffy zeppole like picarones, fried pumpkin batter donuts covered in warm honey, truly delicious. We will return again!!

Yelp
Besides the food in Peru, I really enjoy this place. I always order the same thing; lomo, ceviche mixto, papa a la huancaina, jalea, chupe. I overlook the decor and the offensive videos of petite mountain people fighting like savages. I'm so glad they FINALLY did away with that. I also do not like the parking situation. The service is good. I have been coming here for 20 years. I actually met the owner a few times. I have tried other Peruvian restaurants in NJ, Florida, Elizabeth and nothing else comes close to Tia's.

Yelp
Anyone that knows anything about Peruvian food and lives in North Jersey, knows that Tia Delia will always hit the spot if you are looking for some authentic home cooking! I hadn't been here in years so when I ended up here randomly on a Friday night I was super excited. We asked if we can dine in and they quickly cleared a table for us. Didn't take us long before deciding what we wanted! I ordered the Arroz con Pollo which is Green Rice with Chicken that came with Papa la Huancaina. AMAZING!! Chicken was juicy, rice was flavorful and the sauce on the potatoes had a great creamy consistency. The guys ordered steak which was also a great portion and cooked to their liking. We also good chicken chaufa which was spot on! I know there had been talks about the food being different over the years but after my experience, I would say they are still pretty spot on and would definitely go again. And they offer take out!

Yelp

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Words can't express my love for this place! The papa a la huancaina & ceviche combination is just *chef's kiss*. Honestly, everything here tastes delicious. Service is very straightforward. Ambiance is very family friendly.

Yelp
My gf was in the mood for Peruvian food so we decided to try somewhere we hadn't been. Tia Delia was a heavy hitter in town for a long time so off we went. It wasn't pretty packed for a Saturday so a red flag went up in my head. We started with a ceviche and anticuchos (grilled beef hearts). The ceviche came out almost right away. Another red flag went up. But upon tasting my guard was lowered and the flags were gone. The ceviche was super fresh, tasty, and refreshing. I will say that the fact the choclo (corn) is omitted bothered me a bit. Instead they add a boiled potato (on top of the sweet potato that already is included). The anticuchos came out shortly after. Seasoned and grilled perfectly. Tender and flavorful. For entrees we ordered an arroz chaufa mixto (Peruvian rendition of chicken and beef fried rice) and half a roasted chicken. I'm glad to report that my red flags were for naught. They apparently still got it! Everything we had was delicious and fresh. We Finished the meal with an order of picarones (Peruvian donuts reminiscent of zeppoles or beignets). They are made with a squash and sweet potato. Very successful meal from start to finish. Moral of the story is not to judge a book by its cover. Tia Delia has a weathered exterior but the soul and love remain within and clearly transfer over to the food. It's also a BYOB so come prepared. Make sure to check them out! ENJOY!!!

Yelp
I had a wonder experience at la Tia Delia! We often have Peruvian food in our area so we always try looking for restaurants, especially in Paterson. We ordered ceviche de pescado, anticuchos as our appetizer followed by pollo la brasa and arroz chaufa mixto for our main meal. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised on how delicious all the food was. The ceviche was 100 percent fresh and executed perfectly. It didn't include corn but it's totally fine. The anticuchos were served flavorful and perfectly cooked! The arroz chaufa mixto included beef, chicken and it was also served perfectly cooked. Don't forget to try the green and red sauces. They are served fresh and have a brightness to them. FYI- red sauce is actually spicy! We ended our meal with picarones. It's an airy fried dough like a zeppole. I definitely recommend trying Tia Delia. If you are Peruvian/Ecuadorian, it's like the old school spot you used to visit with your parents. It's not fancy but the food is fresh and enjoyable. Most importantly, it's BYOB! I can't wait to return to continue tasting Tia Delia's cooking.

Yelp
The bistec encebollado was pretty tasty and came with a generous heaping of onions and tomatoes. It was well-seasoned and well-balanced. The chicha morada was also great. Service was very quick; I let them know I had a train to catch, and my dish was out of the kitchen in no time.

Yelp
Best spot to have good Peruvian breakfast, it always reminds me of when I was a little girl living in Peru. The difference now is that I'm a pescatarian and I can only get to enjoy the Escabeche de Pescado. I always say that no one and I mean NO ONE could ever cook like my granny did but they are as close as it gets. I obviously had the most delicious escabeche de pescado with sweet potato along with some coffee and some bread and butter while my dad had relleno with fried camote. We love coming to places that reminds you of your hometown, their food always hits the spot. Also, the service is good, the guys always makes us feel like welcomed. Definitely a great spot try if you want authentic Peruvian dishes, the area is not the greatest but the good food makes you forget about it!

Tanichea B.

Yelp
I thought it was just ok. My husband is Peruvian and we have spent a lot of Time in Peru. He used to come to this place as a kid, so we decided to stop in. The dishes that we tried don't really compare to what we had out there. We had the ceviche, papa la huancaina, and the arroz con pollo. The ceviche and the arroz con pollo both needed salt as they were a bit bland. The papa la huancaina was good. I did like that the portions were generous, but I wish there was more flavor.

Anastasia F.

Yelp
We came to see the waterfalls and I got hungry for ceviche so did a search online and found this gem of a place. This is the best ceviche and lomo saltado (beef chopped with onions and tomatoes with rice and fries) I've had since I moved from sunset park Brooklyn five years ago. It's super authentic and the owner is a gem (he told me to wait to eat flan for a while after ceviche so I don't hurt my stomach so we bought two to go). We'll be back often now we know it's ten minutes from montclair! Thank god for this spot! Parking can be tricky but it's absolutely worth it. And they take MasterCard or Visa cards or cash. Enjoy!

Manny V.

Yelp
This spot had very good tasting food and good size portions for the price. Would definitely go again and grab more food. I live in Harrisburg and I went all the way to New Jersey for the food because this is the closest place that brings the best Peruvian food.

Patricia J.

Yelp
The food is delicious I have been here quite a few times. The place is simple and ok and so is the service.

Madeleine L.

Yelp
We ordered the ceviche, the fish a lo macho and the Chupe soup and everything was good, fresh and flavorful. The chicha morada was delicious and not too sweet. I would definitely repeat this place.

Dulce L.

Yelp
This restaurant is in Patterson New Jersey in a not so great part of town. Nothing extravagant about this place but the food is very homey and good. We ordered the green rice with chicken that come with a side of potatoes with creamy cheese sauce . Our meal was very good, the chicken a little dry but all in all very tasty. For dessert we ordered the tres leche and a slice of chocolate cake and coffee. Both were very good. Tres leche was fresh and moist and the chocolate cake was also very good. We will definitely go back.

Karina M.

Yelp
Delicious. Best lomo I've had. A lot of places cook with alot of grease but not this place. It was very tasty

Genner A.

Yelp
No me gusto la comida y no vuelvo hir a ese lugar mala experiencia sirven mucho pero no estaba nada bueno lo que pedimos con mi famalia talvez a otra personas lea guste ese lugar ...

Xiomy L.

Yelp
You know a place is good when there is almost every table full... the food was good and the time in which we waited was really quick it must have been less than 10 min wait for our food! I give it four stars because there was only one server for the whole restaurant so service was not perfect but it was all good

Tee G.

Yelp
This place never disappoints. Great portions, delicious flavors and moderately priced. My only complaint was my guest not being served at the same time. It's a huge pet peeve! Nonetheless, anytime I'm in the area, eating here is a must!

Joselyn D.

Yelp
Visiting NJ for the first time and as a Peruvian I was very excited to visit this area. We were actually looking for a different restaurant but couldn't find it and found this place. Must've been a sign because the food is DELICIOUS. We order chicha morada, salchipapas, chaufa de pollo and lomo saltado. Definitely coming back the next time we visit. Must try!

Arturo C.

Yelp
Ceviche mixto super picante - man what a sweat!! But no one can come close. Maybe Costa Marina on Market st., they are a good second. If it wasn't for the poor parking area, this place is it! Nice!!!

Steven B.

Yelp
Traditional home style Peruvian cuisine. An extensive menu with lots of very fresh seafood options and ample portions at reasonable prices. Very authentic flavored and ingredients used make La Tia Delia a wonderful culinary experience for those who venture to Patterson. The Green Chicken with Huancaina is really good! The staff was very pleasant and accommodating and the ambiance is a charm. We will definitely be back.

Alex P.

Yelp
Very good spot, always fresh! Sometimes not the best customer service, but the food is good! I always get the arroz chaufa or the 1/2 chicken with white rice!! Delicious!!

Luis V.

Yelp
I been to tia Delia's before many times and have nothing but good memories until today. I spent 70 dollars in food that went straight to the garbage. The arroz chairs de mariscos was extremely salty with the rice so over fried it was hard as a rock. The ceviches were also completely bad and not eatable. I know we are going through some hardships but do not open a restaurant and ch as the people for garbage

Phoebe J.

Yelp
As every Peruvian in New York knows, you have to go to New Jersey to find a feast worthy of a table in Lima. Tia Delia's is my favorite. Unlike some of the other NJ peruvian spots, Tia Delia's has both the seafood AND the rotisserie chicken DOWN (and her green dipping hot sauce is wild). The seafood dishes here are incredible- fresh Parihuela soup, choritos a la chalaca (mussel ceviche served with incredible 'salsa' on top) and the best ceviche mixtos. The Seco De Cordero (a cilantro lamb "stew") is tender and inviting along with the stewed canario beans. The fried yucca is crisp yet tender inside. On every visit the meal just amazes you. The price tag alone is worth traveling out to Paterson, NJ. And for the NYC car-less crowd, here's a bus schedule: http://www.njtransit.com/pdf/bus/upcoming/T0190.pdf Why am I craving an Inca Kola right now??

Dewan A.

Yelp
I enjoyed this place. 1) If you like Peruvian food, this place is great. 2) The prices are reasonable, and the food comes out pretty quickly. 3) Only issue is finding parking.

Stacey C.

Yelp
It is was not AUTHENTIC! Carapulcra tasted like watered down guisado from a Dominican restaurant the pork Chuck's were warm and the outside was cold how does that happen? The white rice was on point. Chicha was good and papa a la huancaina was just right. Husband ordered tallarin saltado that tasted like parsley when the main ingredient spinach and basil, where did they get parsley? The spaghetti tasted like if it was sitting in noodle water. Service sucked waiter didn't care but got upset when my husband walked to the counter to ask if they took cards.

Doug W.

Yelp
I love Peruvian food and this was a really solid representation, very authentic. They have a huge menu. Too much beef for me but there's everything else including a huge seafood section and even guinea pigs. I had a delicious hen soup with and egg and noodles. I also ordered rotisserie chicken with fries and salad. All very good. I like this place. The service was friendly and prices fair.

Chris L.

Yelp
I mainly come here for breakfast. They serve the best chicarone (Fat on Fat) Fried pork sandwich with sweet potato and onion salad. The sandwich is good as hell to have once in a while. I emphasize once in a while. The boss of the place is like short of hearing peruvian uncle I would never want. He just wants me and my friends to eat, pay, leave a large tip and leave. Don't bother asking to make any changes in your order unless your truly peruvian. We always get extra picante. The green one (mild). I like to go with more orange picante but that does not agree with me sometimes. Don't be a noob and ask for ketchup. I also like their tamale with the onion salad. For entertainment, watch tv there. They have the most random stuff on. It's mostly Peruvian variety program. Never park in the strip mall with the pizza place across the street unless your Trump. Park in the side alley where unimaginable stuff happens to avoid getting your car towed. Always in moderation. Stay thirsty my friends.

Sandra D.

Yelp
Excellent Peruvian food. Very authentic. The ceviche was phenomenal. We will definitely go back

Alex A.

Yelp
I been coming here since the early 90s. Yes its a hole in the wall Yes the place isn't pretty. But its great food with huge portions at a very reasonable price. The most famous Peruvian restaurant in North Jersey!

Jackie F.

Yelp
Poor service, food wasn't worth the price. Ceviche was served with potato instead of corn and Chicharrón de pollo tested like fish.

Al L.

Yelp
The food is ok but the service is terrible, the waiters whom are part owner gossip about the people they serve, I lived close by and ordered often but because of how insensitive and rude they are they get two stars. They never do it in their face and in front of other customers. They think they're funny but it's disgusting and unprofessional although they try to seem like they are. They also always charge an extra dollar or two when you pick up, they pocket that extra few dollars and when you call them out, they act like it's a mistake, this happened to me a handful of times, and happened to my girlfriend a bunch of times also. Petty and really gives this place a bad name because the food isn't bad. I just can't stomach hypocracy at the expense of others.

Stephanie R.

Yelp
My husband and I are so glad we found this place. The food is amazing and the portions are huge. The prices are reasonable and the people are nice. We always have lomo saltado and ceviche de pescado. The jalea is delicious as well.

Helen B.

Yelp
Customer for yrs. Consistent deliciousness. Im Peruvian, so I have some cred that way . My fave is the arroz verde w huancaina.

Ralph M.

Yelp
This is an unassuming and very authentic Peruvian restaurant. They have a great selection of traditional dishes. The jugo surtido, anticuchos, papa a la huancaina, papa con salsa de ocopa, lomo saltado, seco de carne combinado, arroz con pollo, pollo a la brasa, tallarines verdes con bisteck, picarones and leche asada are perfectly made and very delicious. The portions are decent and the prices are reasonable. The food is fresh and comes out quickly. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.

Giselle V.

Yelp
This is so far one the best Peruvian restaurants I have visited throughout the past 8 years as a Peruvian living in Nyc. The thing about Tia Delia is that their food is so on point, the ingredients are as almost identical as the ones used in Peru. The portions are big, so you most likely will take some home. If you're Peruvian, They have every Peruvian dish you haven't taste in years. My only complain about this place, besides the "no reservations" policy, is how short-staff they are. Today during my visit for Father's day, there were literally only two servers. They didnt delay on giving out the food, but I felt bad for the serves since they definitely needed more helping hands. Hopefully this changes in a near future. Overall, what a great restaurant. Highly recommend it if you want someone to taste real Peruvian gastronomy.

Alex F.

Yelp
This place is delicious!! The area is a bit sketchy and the restaurant itself looks run down. But the food and the attention is amazing. Never judge a book by its cover is truly a phrase to use here. My party had Ceviche, Anticucho w/ rache and Caldo de pollo. It tasted so good, and was prepared rather fast. The servers were also very kind. Would come again.

Marcos S.

Yelp
I have mixed reviews myself. I have been to this place twice. The first time I went, was really good food and sub par service. The second time I went was foe Mother's day with by family. We got there early, and with in minutes the place was crowded and noisy. I know what they say "it is a bad idea to eat out on a holiday ". My mom wanted Peruvian breakfast so it was her day. So when we were there the service was horrible! The food came out and our drinks didn't. The wait staff was extremely short. Only two!!! Why on gods green earth would this place only have two on a busy busy day!! They moved like molasses. They messed up our food order. Our food was undercooked. I think they were just rushing. The pressure probably got to much for them. Now I will be back, only for lunch and hopefully they do something with their wait staff. Urgh. But the lunch there is definitely really good. So all and all go here for lunch, and never on a busy holiday.

William R.

Yelp
Very disappointed today. We have been going for years. Today the ceviche was sub par the service and clean up of finished platters of food very bad and slow. We tried the rocoto potatoes as appetizer it had montaste at all almost just like colored mayonnaise and the potatoes were warm not cold as they should be. Very disappointed it used to be very good. We will think twice before going back again. The prices also for what we got we high. Too bad

Brenda M.

Yelp
Amazing lomo saltado better than my friends mother or pepes BBQ's in west orange!!! A must have here!!!!
