We had a wonderful stay at La Tonnarella for two nights on our way to Positano from Rome. I wish we had stayed longer! The staff was extraordinarily pleasant and helpful - even working out a time for us on the beach. The room had an amazing balcony overlooking the bay of Naples and Mt V. The A/C worked fine and the bathroom was large and adequate for my family of four w/two sinks. The location was ideal, just a short walk to the restaurants and stores in Sorrento.

My spouse and I stayed here for our honeymoon, and we couldn’t be happier about our choice. We booked a deluxe double room with a sea view — we were given room 18, which, as other reviewers have pointed out, had an incredible balcony that was the size of the room itself! And it goes without saying that the view was breathtaking.||The hotel itself was nothing short of gorgeous at every turn. The floor tiles and décor throughout were classic Sorrento style, and every outdoor area was filled with beautiful plants and neo-Classical statues. When we were making our way down to their beach/lunch restaurant area, it was like walking through an enchanted forest.||All of the staff were highly professional, helpful, and kind. The waitstaff especially seemed to love their job. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant whenever we’d had an exhausting day and didn’t want to make the 20 minute walk into town (4 times total) and it was delicious. They always provided us free bread & olive oil, as well as a tiny free appetizer that changed each time we went. The breakfast buffet was also great, with a wide array of foods — cheeses, cured meats, eggs, a number of Campanian pastries, bacon, and fruit, just to name a few. ||Overall, La Tonnarella played a massive role in making our honeymoon as magical as it was. We don’t regret spending 60% of our trip budget on the hotel alone!||**However,** there is one thing that really frustrated me about the hotel. I’ll leave my rating at 5 stars only because this site doesn’t do half stars — I think it actually deserves a 4.5.||The hotel room minibar/snack shelf was not free. Now normally I wouldn’t complain about that, but the problem is that there was ZERO indication that you had to pay — no sign posted, no price list, no verbal indication at check-in. Because of that, and because it’s already an expensive hotel, we assumed the drinks and snacks were free and helped ourselves throughout the week. Getting hit with that bill at the end of our stay (on top of the city tax) was frustrating to say the least. Turns out the 200 mL wine/prosecco bottles were €10 each. A tiny packet of instant coffee powder was €3, as were all the snacks (which were almost identical to those free little snacks handed out on flights). Really not cool to be surprised with that. I hope that in the future they make this clearer to guests!||There’s a couple other little negatives I’ll note for transparency’s sake, though they didn’t detract much from our enjoyment or impact our rating:|— In our room there was something placed on the curtain rod that prevents you from closing the curtains for the sliding door to our balcony — this was somewhat annoying, as you can imagine how bright it gets in the morning. Every night we had to fashion a makeshift curtain setup to block the morning light.|— There is a *lot* of variation in how the rooms look (layout, dimensions, furnishings) even within the same tier. We knew this going in, but I still think it would be nice for the hotel to feature images of more of their rooms on their website to give future guests a better idea. I was admittedly a bit disappointed in the appearance of our room compared to the photos shown for our tier on the website (but the balcony definitely made for it!). |— The hairdryer appeared to be very old. It had quite weak airflow, and for it to work, I needed to keep my finger on the button at all times.

Best location. Breathtaking view. Very good room and balcony. Excellent service. Italian hospitality at its best. We were travelling for 2 weeks all along the Costa amalfitana and Capri. La Thonarella is the best family hotel we stayed in.

We didn't stay there although the rooms looked terrific but the patio restaurant for dinner is excellent. We were in Sorrento for a month and ate here frequently. Good food, fair prices, great wait staff. Highly recommended.

The air conditioning in our room was extremely weak, making it difficult to sleep at night. Despite calling the front desk multiple times to ask for help, the issue was never properly resolved. Breakfast was very basic. On a positive note, the location, shower, and bed were decent — but unfortunately, the AC problem was a deal breaker for us. We would not recommend this hotel.

Google
THE VIEW IS AMAZING! Outstanding service from everyone! Excellent breakfast buffet with great service. Only complaint is the hotel is located on the outskirts of town. A taxi ride to town runs about $20 to $25 euros one way depending on traffic.

Simply breathtaking & stunning...from the views to the hospitality & staff we were well taken care of... Radici Del Sud restaurant is also a must when staying at La Tonnarella - delicious and wonderful service - Gianluca & all of the servers are amazing!

Yelp
This review is specifically for Radici del Sud, the restaurant that is part of the hotel. Having traveled to Sorrento from the US, this restaurant offered beautiful views of Sorrento. The food for dinner was great. The service was good but while trying to be professional, it was more stuffy and unfriendly. My understanding was that the hotel would offer a shuttle back down to the town center but according to the server, that wasn't the case. That said, it was generally a good experience and the views were unforgettable!

Yelp
The food was amazing. Everything was delicious. the staff went above and beyond. The ambience is beautiful. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
I loved the breakfast in the morning, and the dinner was great as well. The staff are extremely kind and helpful. This hotel is worth booking for sure. For an even better experience, book a room with a view out into the bay of Naples. A quick and easy walk can lead you to downtown sorrento, with many choices of shops. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This hotel was amazing! First, the rooms were wonderful. With access to a balcony overlooking the water, our stay offered us a great way to relax while in Sorrento. To add on, every other part of the room was amazing, comfterable, beautiful, and cleaned perfectly every day. The hotel also came with many extras including an enclosed beach dotted with sea glass (safe, of course), an elaborate complementary buffet (with great staff (shoutout to the waiter who brought us cappacino)), a beautiful outdoor patio, amazing dinner and lunch services, and much more fearures (they even impress a teenager!) Also, as a result of a short walk, you can find yourself in atmospheric downtown Sorrento! Book here now!!

Yelp
Great hotel right on the water with amazing views. The staff goes above and beyond to make you happy. They order fresh pizza from us at midnight when we got here and they gave us bottled water. Be sure to book a room with a view it is worth it. Breakfast is very nice as well. Highly recommending this place in Sorrento if you don't want to brake the bank.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our stay at La Tonnarella. The rooms are beautiful and mostly comfortable. The bed in our 2nd room (we had to move for an unknown reason) had a huge dip in one side. But the room (24) itself was stunningly beautiful. There was a huge balcony overlooking the Napoli Bay. The restaurant was very pleasant and breakfast was great. I especially want to give a 5 star review to Eva, our server. She went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Eva gave suggestions on places to visit and things to do and see. I also noticed that she was kind and joyful with every customer that came into the restaurant. Our first room (23) initially smelled like a septic problem and had some huge flies but the next day all was well. The bed was very comfortable and the view was terrific . I would stay again.

Yelp
Zero Stars for this hotel. Zero stars for the staff. First and most important of all you should know that the hotel staff is extremely rude!! But I'll get to that in a moment. The hotel itself is a little dated. We had to take 2 flights of stairs to get to our room which wouldn't have been that big of a deal except we had to carry our own bags up. (Never have I ever had to carry my own bags to my room) We had an escort who quickly picked up one of my carry on bags and left the 2 large bags for me to carry. (My wife carried her carry on bag as well) The bellhop walked us to the room, handed me the key and left. The room itself looked decent at a glance, but upon further inspection had mosquitoes (I counted 6 that I had to squash) which probably came in through the bathroom window that had been left open. I'll get to the bathroom in a little bit) The WiFi did not work in our room & it took a technician about 45 minutes to 'fix it'. Truth is it was never fixed. It worked for about an hour, then we were logged out & it never worked again. There was a small balcony which revealed a magnificent panoramic view of the sea. You could see from the Sorrento marina all the way to Capri. I'm talking Breathtaking view!! This is the 1 and only good thing about this place. I hopped onto the bed to relax before heading out & almost broke my back. The thin mattress is supported by a steel beam running down the middle with flat chain link springs on either side (see picture) To give you a better idea of what it's like to sleep on this thing, imagine trying to sleep on a hill. You can't help but roll off to either side of the bed. I went down to the reception desk to let them know that the bed was unacceptable & the response I received from Christine (the receptionist) was this... "if you don't like it, you can call your travel agent and have them book you a room somewhere else" NO JOKE! NO EXAGGERATION!! Verbatim this is what she said!!!! Talk about customer service! WOW!!! This is exactly what I did. I called my agent and arranged a different room at a different hotel. Unfortunately we were unable to be transferred right away & were forced to spend 1 miserable night here. Luckily our agent was able to secure a room at a nearby hotel (Hotel Belair) which was a much nicer experience (check my review to read about the difference) I understand that this hotel is trying to stay "authentic" not my word.. this is the word the travel agent had used to describe the hotel, but give me a break!! There is no shower! Only a tub with a hand heals shower head. Get ready... here comes the best part... The ceiling is so low over the shower, that you have no other choice but to shower while sitting on your knees!! (Or bent over, or sitting in the tub) At some point during the night I wanted to make some tea (since I was unable to sleep in the bed!) and I was disgusted at what I saw in the kettle that was provided in the room. (Please see the image I provided of the tea kettle) there was mold inside of it. Anyway, That was 24 hours of my life that I can never get back. It almost ruined my entire vacation. If you are thinking of booking this hotel I urge you to do some more research. I highly recommend finding different accommodations.

Yelp
When I walked into my enormous hotel room (room 24) and saw the floor to ceiling sliding glass doors with the curtains blowing in the breeze and the panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Seeing the outdoor bed and the outdoor shower on the balcony made me absolutely speechless. Silence between he and I as we took in all of the amenities. We looked at each other with raised eyebrows. Yes, we were going to enjoy this space. It's certainly very Italian. Our floor was completely tiled in blue and yellow ceramic and the balcony made of terracotta. It felt very old world. It did feel "busy" with all of the patterns compared to what most American's probably are used to. While I wouldn't live with it in my home in America, I absolutely loved it and embraced it in Italy. It felt palatial and I loved waking up to that every day that I stayed. LOVED the bathroom. With a huge sliding glass door that also opened to the balcony, I could soak in the 6x4 ft tub as I overlooked the Napoli coastline. A tub that was made completely of glass on one side. Yes, this was a hotel room made for lovers. Despite having been to the Amalfi Coast three times now, I'm still dying to go back. And of course, I would book my stay again at La Tonnarella in room 24. I wasn't there even 20 minutes before I was sprawled out on the balcony in a bathing suit with a mischievous grin on my face.

Yelp
The room was amazing our terrace on Naples Bay could easily have a large party. It was outfitted with a table for two, two lounges plus an umbrella. Amazing views of the water and landscape plus a marina. Walking to the city center was easy but we felt tucked away when we were not shopping or eating in town. We always had breakfast here always great variety and good coffee. Our last night we decided to have dinner here versus walking in town. Service and food are very very good. Back to the room very spacious as well as a spacious bathroom and soaking tub.

Yelp
Very arrogant service and bad customers service. Food was fine but definitely overpriced . The server was complaining about my choice of wine just because was the cheapest one on the menu, not knowing I had the exact same wine the night before in Napoli for 7 euros. (There was 30 euros). Wine was good lol At the end of our meals we payed and the server asked for the tip. I am fully Italian and my husband family came to visit Italy for the first time. You can fool tourists but not Italians. Tip is not mandatory in Italy . If you enjoyed the experience and you want to be extra nice you leave some coins. My husband said ok to the tip and he wanted to give him 10% but he insisted on the 20%. That pissed me off. Better improve the service if you wanna get 20 % In US the care of the customer goes way beyond. and customer service it works way better than this. Also I work in restaurant in US and even we don't get payed for our service the 20% we are not allowed to ask to tip us. Otherwise it will be extortion. The customer decides. I will never suggest or come back to this place.

Yelp
I must start by saying my experience at La Tonnarella was many years ago. 1998 to be exact! Lol. Sorry...it was so long ago I never thought to write a review but in reading over the few that are here...I figured why not? Some things will never change... like the absolutely breathtaking view. We visited for a week with the kids when they were teens. Dozens of vacations since and our week in Sorrento at La Tonnarella is still our favorite. We went off-season November. Only a few other guests there. The food was amazing. We still talk about it. Fresh seafood and pastas... and Breakfasts were ample without being heavy. We always grabbed a pastry or slice of pizza for lunch while out but enjoyed fantastic dinners at LT every single night. We talked about trying other places in town but ultimately did not. The food at La Tonnarella is so fresh and wonderful...why go anywhere else?!? I do not remember the number of the large family room we occupied but I do recall it being lovely with bright blue tiles and comfortable beds. I suppose because it was not high season, there were very few employees visible..very few guests as well...we had the place largely to ourselves. . The same fellow who checked us in carried our bags to our room and saw to our every need throughout our stay. He was also our waiter every meal! Just changed his hat and vest to suit the role! It was a magnificent stay and reading these reviews/seeing the photos makes me long for another week...or longer in Sorrento at La Tonnarella. As soon as COVID lightens up...in going... minus the kids who now have children of their own!

Yelp
La Tonnarella is exactly as described and far more. It's an example of what a hotel should be. We stayed four nights in Oct., two in a suite and two in a superior room. The views from every window of each room are stunning. They overlook the Bay of Naples and you can see the cruise ships, Naples. Vesuvio, both harbors in Sorrento, the town and the cliffs. It's hard to stop looking out the windows or enjoying the terraces. Everything works fine in the rooms. The suite is over the top for two, two bedrooms, two baths, jacuzzi, sitting room and would work for a family. The superior room is perfect for two and has the same views and a balcony. They say every superior room has a view and balcony. Everything is clean, well maintained and works perfectly. The decoration is quite eclectic and old-school, very interesting things for the guest to examine. The restaurant is closed Oct. 1 except for the complimentary breakfast which is great. Their omelette is perfect, an example for all home cooks to emulate. The staff at the desk and in the restaurant is very friendly and helpful. There is a beautiful little beach. Take the elevator, they provide towels. Unfortunately when we were there our beach days were windy and cloudy/rainy but the water was still warm. Some other things. The walk into town is just an easy 6 -10 mins but the road is busy and the sidewalk narrow. Many many people do it so it's OK. Cabs into town are about 20 euros. There is a bus but we did not use it. Walking to/from the docks with luggage is possible but a long way up or downhill. Our superior room had a tub with a hand held spray, no shower.
