We stayed at La Tonnarella for the first 6 nights of our first trip to Italy, the hotel is beautiful and the views are gorgeous. We booked a sea view room and it had a balcony; however, two people could barely fit out there unless you were sitting at the table. The table and two chairs took up most of the room and it was even hard to get up and down because the table was too big for the balcony. The room itself was fine, the view makes it better but it was small. The walk down to the restaurants was only 15 minutes and a beautiful walk, coming back is more of an incline but it's not that bad. The hotel was clean and the daily maid service was wonderful. The curtain would not close in our room (Room #5) so I had to clip it closed with a hair clip so the bright morning light would not wake us up too early. We did go down to the beach on the first day and had lunch but never went back, even the walk up to the elevator is a bit steep and we are in pretty good shape. The beach is rocky and they charge you for chairs and umbrella even though you are guest at the hotel. I agree with what someone else said about the mini bar, they charge you for everything except the TWO bottles they leave you for the entire 6 nights. We never ate at the restaurant for dinner, we planned to but never made it. We walked down to the center every night and enjoyed the restaurants there. We ate breakfast once or twice and it was a nice selection.

My wife and I really enjoyed our 3-night stay here. We visited in late September and had great weather. The hotel is nicely decorated and we loved our terrace balcony with a great view of the bay. We also enjoyed the hotel breakfast. We did not make too much use of the beach but it is pretty rocky down there so I would recommend bringing some water shoes or flip flops. We also had dinner one night at the restaurant and the food and service was fantastic.

This was our first trip to Sorrento and we will definitely be back!!! We stayed at La Tonnarella for 10 days and did day trips to Amalfi,Positano, Ravello, Pompeii and Capri (could have skipped Capri, too congested and expensive). ||We stayed in a Junior Suite at LaTonnarella and had a panoramic view of the sea and Vesuvio that was breathtaking! When we arrived the first night we were greeted like family by Giuseppe Aiello, I believe he was the manager. He checked us in, answered all our questions and took us to our room. What a welcome! We are ordinary people and were greeted like celebrities. The hotel exudes an old world charm with lots of color, ceramic tilework, sunshine and a relaxed vibe. There were some areas tho that could use a little freshening up.|| The view from our suite, the outside dining room where we had a few dinners, and the inside dining room where a free breakfast is served were sensational! The hotel was built into a mountain and is about a 20 minute walk from the main square, so we were far from the maddening crowds. We would walk into town each day for sight seeing, shopping and lunch and then head back to the hotel. It is a pleasant and scenic walk but along a very narrow path with the narrow street overwhelmed by cars, busses and motorcycles. So you have to be very careful. At night, we took taxis down to town and back up which ranged from $50-$60 Euros round trip which can add up quickly. || Giuseppe was always there for us to answer our questions, take our laundry, call taxi's and suggest some very good restaurants like L'Abate and Aquamaria and make our reservations at these restaurants and at the hotel. Anna Lisa also did an outstanding job doing all the above as well as a gentleman at night with grey hair. SERVICE WAS EVERYTHING at the front desk!!!! ||The hotel was very very clean and well stocked and our jr. suite was so spacious and inviting. Our outdoor terrace was huge with an umbrella and 2 lounge chairs as well as a little reading nook and an outdoor shower. The food at the breakfast room was fresh and well prepared with a lot of variety and we went there every day. The outside terrace for dinner was also good but the menu never varied so we ventured into town most nights and dined at Il Buco, Anqiua Ristorante Parrucchiana FAvorita among others which were all amazing. Thank you Giuseppe and Anna Lisa, and all the housekeeping staff, serving staff at breakfast and dinner. WELL DONE!!!||Only 2 minor criticisms: They are advertised as having a private beach and they do. But you have to take a very old small elevator down to another level and walk down which is fine. But the beach is so small, rocky, and no real sand. We only went once and it wasnt worth it.|Secondly, the A/C system is old and our room was too cold always - could not be regulated. Minor things.|| Overall GREAT EXPERIENCE!! It was pricey but we did have a large junior suite.

This hotel is absolutely amazing. You can't beat the location, right on the cliffs edge yet easily walk to town. The hotel is classic elegant Italian style. The private beach and bar are a great place to relax and have fun. Food was exceptional whether in the breakfast room or patio with stunning views all around. And the staff...top notch. This hotel is the ultimate Sorrento experience.

This was the first of four hotels that we stayed in during our last trip to Italy. We spent four nights here before moving on to Florence.|The hotel is about a half mile or so away from the village, perched on the edge of a steep cliff. It's about a fifteen minute walk into the village along a mostly narrow sidewalk but with a great view. All downhill into the village and all uphill going back.|The room was large with a big deck and fantastic views of the bay. We could see the lights of Naples across the bay. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was large and included a statute and fountain in the middle of the shower. Water pressure was very good.|Breakfast was also good with a large selection of eggs, bacon, cereal, fruit and pastries. They brought coffee and cappuccionos to the table.|Overall our stay was very pleasant.

My fiancé and I visited Sorrento and stayed at La Tonnarella for a full week. This was actually my second time staying here, and I must say – this hotel is truly wonderful!||Location:|The hotel is perched on a hillside in Sorrento, which means it’s slightly removed from the busy city center – but still within walking distance of both central restaurants and the port. Thanks to its elevated location, the views are absolutely breathtaking. I highly recommend booking a sea view room – it’s truly worth it. You can also enjoy the same stunning view from their charming restaurant.||Service:|The service was excellent throughout our stay. The staff were always friendly and helpful – whether it was making bookings or answering questions. This goes for everyone: reception, restaurant staff, housekeeping, and the team down at the beach. Their warm hospitality really made a difference.||Amenities:|What really sets this hotel apart is its private beach. Just take the elevator and a short walk down some steps, and you’ll arrive at a beautiful stone beach. Two sunbeds and an umbrella cost €35 – very reasonable. There’s also a beachfront restaurant offering a daily-changing menu with delicious food and a lovely sea view. The hotel also offers parking, which is convenient if you’re planning to rent a car or a Vespa.||Breakfast:|The breakfast here really stands out compared to other hotels I’ve stayed at in Italy. It’s a generous continental buffet with fresh fruit, eggs, pastries, juices, and more – plus freshly made coffee on request. If you feel like something different, there’s also an à la carte breakfast menu available for an additional cost.||To sum up:|I truly hope this wasn’t my last stay at La Tonnarella. It’s my top choice for accommodation in Sorrento – and I’d return in a heartbeat.

The hotel has a great view. Unfortunately that is all I can say for positive feedback. The rooms are small and uncomfortable. The storage for luggage etc inadequate. Noise is a problem with little or no insulation. Our shower flooded the bathroom with every shower. This was not the type of accommodation we expected,

Google
Highly recommend LaTonnarella. It is in a great location with breathtaking water views from the rooms and dining room. The hotel’s decor is beautiful. The staff is very pleasant and professional. The food is delicious. We wished we could have stayed longer.

Yelp
This review is specifically for Radici del Sud, the restaurant that is part of the hotel. Having traveled to Sorrento from the US, this restaurant offered beautiful views of Sorrento. The food for dinner was great. The service was good but while trying to be professional, it was more stuffy and unfriendly. My understanding was that the hotel would offer a shuttle back down to the town center but according to the server, that wasn't the case. That said, it was generally a good experience and the views were unforgettable!

Yelp
The food was amazing. Everything was delicious. the staff went above and beyond. The ambience is beautiful. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
I loved the breakfast in the morning, and the dinner was great as well. The staff are extremely kind and helpful. This hotel is worth booking for sure. For an even better experience, book a room with a view out into the bay of Naples. A quick and easy walk can lead you to downtown sorrento, with many choices of shops. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This hotel was amazing! First, the rooms were wonderful. With access to a balcony overlooking the water, our stay offered us a great way to relax while in Sorrento. To add on, every other part of the room was amazing, comfterable, beautiful, and cleaned perfectly every day. The hotel also came with many extras including an enclosed beach dotted with sea glass (safe, of course), an elaborate complementary buffet (with great staff (shoutout to the waiter who brought us cappacino)), a beautiful outdoor patio, amazing dinner and lunch services, and much more fearures (they even impress a teenager!) Also, as a result of a short walk, you can find yourself in atmospheric downtown Sorrento! Book here now!!

Yelp
Great hotel right on the water with amazing views. The staff goes above and beyond to make you happy. They order fresh pizza from us at midnight when we got here and they gave us bottled water. Be sure to book a room with a view it is worth it. Breakfast is very nice as well. Highly recommending this place in Sorrento if you don't want to brake the bank.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our stay at La Tonnarella. The rooms are beautiful and mostly comfortable. The bed in our 2nd room (we had to move for an unknown reason) had a huge dip in one side. But the room (24) itself was stunningly beautiful. There was a huge balcony overlooking the Napoli Bay. The restaurant was very pleasant and breakfast was great. I especially want to give a 5 star review to Eva, our server. She went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Eva gave suggestions on places to visit and things to do and see. I also noticed that she was kind and joyful with every customer that came into the restaurant. Our first room (23) initially smelled like a septic problem and had some huge flies but the next day all was well. The bed was very comfortable and the view was terrific . I would stay again.

Yelp
Zero Stars for this hotel. Zero stars for the staff. First and most important of all you should know that the hotel staff is extremely rude!! But I'll get to that in a moment. The hotel itself is a little dated. We had to take 2 flights of stairs to get to our room which wouldn't have been that big of a deal except we had to carry our own bags up. (Never have I ever had to carry my own bags to my room) We had an escort who quickly picked up one of my carry on bags and left the 2 large bags for me to carry. (My wife carried her carry on bag as well) The bellhop walked us to the room, handed me the key and left. The room itself looked decent at a glance, but upon further inspection had mosquitoes (I counted 6 that I had to squash) which probably came in through the bathroom window that had been left open. I'll get to the bathroom in a little bit) The WiFi did not work in our room & it took a technician about 45 minutes to 'fix it'. Truth is it was never fixed. It worked for about an hour, then we were logged out & it never worked again. There was a small balcony which revealed a magnificent panoramic view of the sea. You could see from the Sorrento marina all the way to Capri. I'm talking Breathtaking view!! This is the 1 and only good thing about this place. I hopped onto the bed to relax before heading out & almost broke my back. The thin mattress is supported by a steel beam running down the middle with flat chain link springs on either side (see picture) To give you a better idea of what it's like to sleep on this thing, imagine trying to sleep on a hill. You can't help but roll off to either side of the bed. I went down to the reception desk to let them know that the bed was unacceptable & the response I received from Christine (the receptionist) was this... "if you don't like it, you can call your travel agent and have them book you a room somewhere else" NO JOKE! NO EXAGGERATION!! Verbatim this is what she said!!!! Talk about customer service! WOW!!! This is exactly what I did. I called my agent and arranged a different room at a different hotel. Unfortunately we were unable to be transferred right away & were forced to spend 1 miserable night here. Luckily our agent was able to secure a room at a nearby hotel (Hotel Belair) which was a much nicer experience (check my review to read about the difference) I understand that this hotel is trying to stay "authentic" not my word.. this is the word the travel agent had used to describe the hotel, but give me a break!! There is no shower! Only a tub with a hand heals shower head. Get ready... here comes the best part... The ceiling is so low over the shower, that you have no other choice but to shower while sitting on your knees!! (Or bent over, or sitting in the tub) At some point during the night I wanted to make some tea (since I was unable to sleep in the bed!) and I was disgusted at what I saw in the kettle that was provided in the room. (Please see the image I provided of the tea kettle) there was mold inside of it. Anyway, That was 24 hours of my life that I can never get back. It almost ruined my entire vacation. If you are thinking of booking this hotel I urge you to do some more research. I highly recommend finding different accommodations.

Yelp
When I walked into my enormous hotel room (room 24) and saw the floor to ceiling sliding glass doors with the curtains blowing in the breeze and the panoramic view of the Mediterranean Sea, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. Seeing the outdoor bed and the outdoor shower on the balcony made me absolutely speechless. Silence between he and I as we took in all of the amenities. We looked at each other with raised eyebrows. Yes, we were going to enjoy this space. It's certainly very Italian. Our floor was completely tiled in blue and yellow ceramic and the balcony made of terracotta. It felt very old world. It did feel "busy" with all of the patterns compared to what most American's probably are used to. While I wouldn't live with it in my home in America, I absolutely loved it and embraced it in Italy. It felt palatial and I loved waking up to that every day that I stayed. LOVED the bathroom. With a huge sliding glass door that also opened to the balcony, I could soak in the 6x4 ft tub as I overlooked the Napoli coastline. A tub that was made completely of glass on one side. Yes, this was a hotel room made for lovers. Despite having been to the Amalfi Coast three times now, I'm still dying to go back. And of course, I would book my stay again at La Tonnarella in room 24. I wasn't there even 20 minutes before I was sprawled out on the balcony in a bathing suit with a mischievous grin on my face.

Yelp
The room was amazing our terrace on Naples Bay could easily have a large party. It was outfitted with a table for two, two lounges plus an umbrella. Amazing views of the water and landscape plus a marina. Walking to the city center was easy but we felt tucked away when we were not shopping or eating in town. We always had breakfast here always great variety and good coffee. Our last night we decided to have dinner here versus walking in town. Service and food are very very good. Back to the room very spacious as well as a spacious bathroom and soaking tub.

Yelp
Very arrogant service and bad customers service. Food was fine but definitely overpriced . The server was complaining about my choice of wine just because was the cheapest one on the menu, not knowing I had the exact same wine the night before in Napoli for 7 euros. (There was 30 euros). Wine was good lol At the end of our meals we payed and the server asked for the tip. I am fully Italian and my husband family came to visit Italy for the first time. You can fool tourists but not Italians. Tip is not mandatory in Italy . If you enjoyed the experience and you want to be extra nice you leave some coins. My husband said ok to the tip and he wanted to give him 10% but he insisted on the 20%. That pissed me off. Better improve the service if you wanna get 20 % In US the care of the customer goes way beyond. and customer service it works way better than this. Also I work in restaurant in US and even we don't get payed for our service the 20% we are not allowed to ask to tip us. Otherwise it will be extortion. The customer decides. I will never suggest or come back to this place.

Yelp
I must start by saying my experience at La Tonnarella was many years ago. 1998 to be exact! Lol. Sorry...it was so long ago I never thought to write a review but in reading over the few that are here...I figured why not? Some things will never change... like the absolutely breathtaking view. We visited for a week with the kids when they were teens. Dozens of vacations since and our week in Sorrento at La Tonnarella is still our favorite. We went off-season November. Only a few other guests there. The food was amazing. We still talk about it. Fresh seafood and pastas... and Breakfasts were ample without being heavy. We always grabbed a pastry or slice of pizza for lunch while out but enjoyed fantastic dinners at LT every single night. We talked about trying other places in town but ultimately did not. The food at La Tonnarella is so fresh and wonderful...why go anywhere else?!? I do not remember the number of the large family room we occupied but I do recall it being lovely with bright blue tiles and comfortable beds. I suppose because it was not high season, there were very few employees visible..very few guests as well...we had the place largely to ourselves. . The same fellow who checked us in carried our bags to our room and saw to our every need throughout our stay. He was also our waiter every meal! Just changed his hat and vest to suit the role! It was a magnificent stay and reading these reviews/seeing the photos makes me long for another week...or longer in Sorrento at La Tonnarella. As soon as COVID lightens up...in going... minus the kids who now have children of their own!

Yelp
La Tonnarella is exactly as described and far more. It's an example of what a hotel should be. We stayed four nights in Oct., two in a suite and two in a superior room. The views from every window of each room are stunning. They overlook the Bay of Naples and you can see the cruise ships, Naples. Vesuvio, both harbors in Sorrento, the town and the cliffs. It's hard to stop looking out the windows or enjoying the terraces. Everything works fine in the rooms. The suite is over the top for two, two bedrooms, two baths, jacuzzi, sitting room and would work for a family. The superior room is perfect for two and has the same views and a balcony. They say every superior room has a view and balcony. Everything is clean, well maintained and works perfectly. The decoration is quite eclectic and old-school, very interesting things for the guest to examine. The restaurant is closed Oct. 1 except for the complimentary breakfast which is great. Their omelette is perfect, an example for all home cooks to emulate. The staff at the desk and in the restaurant is very friendly and helpful. There is a beautiful little beach. Take the elevator, they provide towels. Unfortunately when we were there our beach days were windy and cloudy/rainy but the water was still warm. Some other things. The walk into town is just an easy 6 -10 mins but the road is busy and the sidewalk narrow. Many many people do it so it's OK. Cabs into town are about 20 euros. There is a bus but we did not use it. Walking to/from the docks with luggage is possible but a long way up or downhill. Our superior room had a tub with a hand held spray, no shower.
