We were staying in a local Airbnb right behind Parque Santa Lucia. Our host shared a list of local bars and restaurants that are some of his favorites, so La Tratto was already on our radar.
We had drinks in the park a few nights and saw huge promo signs showcasing a Paquette Premium for $295 including an appetizer, main course and dessert. At about $15 US it looked like a pretty good deal.
The outside area is well separated from the park by a hedge wall and the tables are spaced out nicely. As expected we had our temperature taken, were offered hand sanitizer and all staff had on masks and face shields.
Our server, Antonio, could not have been nicer or more helpful. With our minimal Spanish he gladly assisted with very good English.
We started with cocktails while we looked at the list of items included in the promotion. My husband had a Margarita on the Rocks ($80) and I had a glass of their house Trotter Cabernet ($180). The Margarita was good, and while the red wine was nice it wasn't a full bodied as I would have expected.
The promo offered a about six or seven each, appetizers and entrees with Tiramisu for dessert. My husband chose the Caesar Salad for his first course, as it was listed as an 'ensaladita" we expected a fairly small side salad and were really surprised by the size. Additionally, the dressing was excellent.
I ordered the Beef Carpaccio, again a surprisingly large portion, as the menu price for the regular size portion was nearly the cost of the entire combination.
The Beef was shaved paper thin, with a nice balance of fat and lean. It was topped with a drizzle of truffle oil that was not at all overpowering, Spiced Pepper Slices, shaved Parmesan Cheese and drops of a Garlicy Aioli. I would absolutely order it again, one of the most flavorful carpaccio dishes I've had and well balanced.
They also brought us some warm, freshly baked bread, almost pita like, served with a Chimichurri type dipping sauce.
For his entrée my husband went with the Fettuccini Tuscany with Chicken, one of our Airbnb hosts recommendations. The dish included a nice portion of Chicken in a Lemon, Garlic Cream Sauce with Spinach. Again, a good portion and packed with flavor.
I opted for the Mediterranean Scampi. The dish was made with Black Spaghetti, a Lemon Beurre Blanc Sauce, fresh Tomato, Broccoli and had about eight nice sized Shrimp. Great flavor, great texture and way more food than I expected.
The Tiramisu was unfortunately the weakest dish, not horrible by any means, just not WOW. It was dense and creamy but needed more of that coffee flavor that Tiramisu should have.
Overall, La Tratto has a wonderful location, the staff was wonderful, the food was delicious and for the price the Paquette Premium at $295 was a winner! Definitely someplace we would go back to again.
Two notes at the risk of stating the obvious - the $ in Mexico denotes Pesos. So, don't be alarmed if you've been to more touristy areas in Mexico where prices are in US dollars.
At the time of dining, our costs in US dollars were:
Margarita = $80 pesos or about $4.00 US
Trotter Cabernet = $180 pesos or about $9.00 US
