"Set the scene Hidden behind an unassuming vermillion facade lies a surrealist sanctuary in the heart of vibrant San Miguel de Allende. When you open the wooden colonial doors from the pedestrian-only cobblestone street, it feels like you are walking into a too-cool gallery. There’s a large circular structure just beyond the front door that gives way to a bright and airy courtyard space with Escher-like stairs criss-crossing the shared pool. The six rooms look out to the shared pea-gravel courtyard or rooftop patio, each with charming bistro tables for huevos rancheros and fresh squeezed juices in the morning or for enjoying Mezcal in the evenings while chatting (and sometimes dancing) with other guests via candlelight. Everyone I saw during my stay were among the art and style set—think a Bushwick art opening. The backstory The design pays tribute to the city's history when it became a nexus for art and culture—with the ambition to inspire other artists in return. Psychedelic art installations and famous furnishings by surrealist artist Pedro Friedeberg are found scattered among the mix of mid-century furniture, bold colors, and rich textiles. The rooms Each suite is completely unique, yet related. The spirit of each room is inspired by one stand-out design feature, whether it be a white-stucco fireplace adorned with Aztec monkeys, or a Mikveh-inspired shower dome that may constitute the sexiest bathroom I’ve ever seen. Food and drink There’s a small (and delicious) traditional breakfast menu, snacks available in the afternoon, and beverages available on the rooftop deck or at the lobby bar. The area The location can’t be beat at this boutique property is in the heart of Centro. You're steps from The Parroquia (and the other beautiful cathedrals scattered throughout the historic colonial district), trendy boutiques, and some of the best restaurants in the city. The service Expect a staff of 20-something hipsters who speak English as a second language. Don’t follow my lead and show up expecting a traditional front desk and bellhop. Relax your shoulders, slow down, and ease into the vibe of the property the second you pass through the moon-shaped structure and you’ll fall in love with this incredible property even faster than I did, which was seconds after I downed an espresso and started chit-chatting with the staff. Fabulous! My husband and I were traveling to San Miguel for a wedding and spent a week at La Valise. The hotel and rooms are beautifully appointed and very comfortable. We loved the outdoor area by the pool. The breakfast that was provided was lovely. The concierge team was FANTASTIC! Nico, Marco and Luis made our stay truly enjoyable and memorable. They were so friendly and helpful, and provided great recommendations! Location was perfect as we could easily walk anywhere. I highly recommend La Valise!

We had an incredible New Year’s Eve stay at La Valise. Perfectly located in the heart of Centro, the hotel feels less like a hotel and more like staying in a beautiful local home. The rooms are stunning, but the true highlight is the staff.|Marco, Luis, and Nico were exceptionally friendly and attentive—offering wonderful restaurant recommendations and reservations, arranging New Year’s Eve festivities with a fantastic view of the fireworks at La Parroquia, and seamlessly coordinating our transfers from Mexico City and to the airport. Each morning we also enjoyed a delicious breakfast, which was included with the room.|An unforgettable experience from start to finish.

This is a wonderful, small, boutique hotel right in the central. The staff (Marco, Luis and Nico) were incredible! They really went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. The breakfasts are lovely and the beds/rooms are very comfortable. We stayed in the Aura suite (with a small patio with bathtub) and it was wonderful. While we didn't use the bathtub (it was always full of leaves), we did sit out there and enjoy a glass of wine. You cannot go wrong choosing this hotel!

Stayed at La Valise for a week while at a Spanish Immersion program and it is absolutely lovely and the staff (Nicholas, Luis and Mirella) are the reason -- the know everyone's names and what you like to eat and drink and take such good care of the guests. We were invited to a wedding in San Miguel de Allende and we decided to stay here at La Valise instead of where the wedding party was staying. It was a great decision. We loved this hotel. The staff were awesome (Nico, Marco, and Luis and housekeeping staff). The attention to details like our welcome package in our room, to telling us the history of the hotel, to keeping our rooms clean(twice a day) and stocked with coffee and drinks(wine, beer and liquor included). Breakfast was amazing. Nico was especially attentive to our needs. The room that we stayed in was huge, and i think it was the smallest in the property. Just a heads-up, no TV's in this property, which was perfect. Free Wi-Fi though. The location was great. Walking distance to the central park and to the wedding we were attending. We are definitely planning to return to San Miguel de Allende and staying here at La Valise again. Thank to the awesome staff for making this stay a memorable one. See you again soon. Side note: while we were checking in, we noticed a group come in to the hotel and they were taking photos. We then recognized someone and it was the bride from the wedding we were attending there. She was surprised to see us there. We found out from the staff that they called earlier to ask if they can do a photo shoot there at the hotel. That's saying a lot about this property.

This is the best hotel in Mexico, in my humble opinion. The hotel is incredibly beautiful. Our room, the Master Suite, is quite literally a work of art, yet it was superbly relaxing and comfortable, with an unforgettable bathroom. But the best thing of all was the staff, who were kind and thoughtful and made us feel very much at home. I can't wait to return.

An oasis in the heart of San Miguel de Allende. The hotel and our room were as beautiful and serene as in the pictures. The location cannot be beat - though it is right in the center of the city, we still had the most restful night's sleep. The breakfast was the perfect start to every morning. But the real star for us was the service, especially from Marco. He made us feel incredibly at home throughout our stay and really went the extra mile to help us when we had issues with our transport from SMA to Mexico City. Do not hesitate to book your stay at La Valise - you will be genuinely cared for.

Our stay at La Valise San Miguel de Allende was absolutely wonderful. We stayed in the Master Suite -- it was pure perfection from start to finish. The space is breathtaking, elegant yet cozy, filled with beautiful design details, local art, and a sense of calm that makes it hard to leave. The bathtub room was the highlight! Every detail felt intentional - from the high quality bedding to the scent of the room and the carefully curated decor. The service was impeccable. Every staff member we met was kind, gracious, and genuinely cared that we were having a great stay. They made us feel completely at home. The location couldn’t be better. We were steps from the best restaurants and galleries, yet tucked away just enough to feel private and peaceful. Breakfast each morning was fresh and delicious, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel is pure magic. If you’re looking for a romantic, design-forward, and truly memorable stay in San Miguel de Allende, La Valise is perfect. The Master Suite is worth every moment. We can’t wait to come back.
