We had a wonderful time at your restaurant on Valentine’s Day! The atmosphere was cozy, the service was fast and attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious. Our order arrived very quickly, which was a great bonus.

Loved the tacos! You won't find the biggest menu here but the food was delicious. Chips with guac and salsa on the house. Good drink selection. Located close to the main road in Newport. Found street parking fairly easy, but it was 7 pm on a 20-something degree evening in February.

My husband and I loved La Vecina! Food was amazing, my husband got chicken fajitas, and I got the Taco Plate, where you can pick and choose from their taco selection. All were so yummy. Our host/manager was very nice, and our waitress was knowledgeable, and helpful accommodating a food allergy, if you have a dairy allergy, you can still enjoy a delicious meal! We will definitely be back. Margs were delish too. 🍹😋👍

We made reservations and were able to get in earlier than expected on a Saturday which was a good start. The staff were attentive, and our server went above and beyond for service. He did a great job setting up the table with a “ Happy Anniversary “ card before we were seated, and then brought us on an adventure as he called it, when he surprised us with a delicious tres leches cake dessert, on them. But that was just the beginning and end chapters of a great experience here. Somewhere in the middle, we found that they had delicious margaritas to complement their awesome house chips and salsa we had, and the empanadas were some of the best I’ve tried. Dinner didn’t disappoint, then menu had everything, and I wanted to try everything but we went with an assortment of taco’s to share. They were all slammin. My 2 fave that I tried were the spicy shrimp and the al pastor. So if you’re in the area, and are looking for great food, mixed with great peeps, come check this place out, the food and the people are as authentic as it gets.

First time to this restaurant- was told that they served amazing chips and that the salsa was great… We, a party of 4, show up on a Tuesday and arrived at 5:30-did not have a reservation so we were offered either the bar or outside- we chose the latter. Lily was our server. She was pleasant enough and took our orders. She was very kind and patient with me as it took me a while to decide on my meal. Once we ordered, I guess it must have gotten busy because we started to sporadically receive parts of the order. First came the chips and salsa which I did not photograph. Coming from New Mexico I was not at all impressed with the thickness of the tortilla chips, nor was the salsa at all flavorful. I ordered two tacos; the sweet potato and crispy fish- my man ordered the La Vecina burrito and our friend ordered the carnitas for two. Our food was delivered by server Isabelle… she had literally no idea how to pronounce any of the food that she was handing us- and after I snapped the photos for this review and began to eat- I realized that I was given a shrimp taco rather than the fish. About 1 minute later, Isabelle came back with another small plate and said who got the fish taco? And then told us she has no idea what she is delivering- she was just told that an order was ready to go out. If the management team is reading this… please invest in better training for your new hires. Not knowing the food on the menu is off putting. The food was fair- ZERO spice but ok- they offer room temperature bottled water with no ice- the silverware and glasses were dirty. There is only one bathroom for patrons- hope the person before you was respectful.

Google
We had drinks here, while waiting for our table next door (maybe the same owners?). The drink was delicious, Blood orange margarita, I think. Staff was lovely. Buuuuuuuuuuuut.... There's a dance studio above, and the way the sound travels, one might think that there were galloping horses up there. I was ready to just go eat elsewhere, mid drink, but our table was ready next door. There's nooo way I could have set through that for an entire outing. If something like that wouldn't bother you - I recommend this place.

Delicious and affordable! I remember it being pretty loud environment but waiters were very helpful and friendly! We enjoyed the dinner there.

I am visiting Newport and stopped here yesterday on my first night. I sat at the bar in the mood for some good drinks & a light meal. La Dama Margarita & the spicy Paloma were recommended to me by the bartender, the margarita was my favorite. Both were excellent! I got chips, salsa, & the spicy shrimp app as well. Very delicious, the pineapple salsa was so fresh with the hot shrimp. Friendly staff and good vibes overall. Casual and fun atmosphere. Wonderful way to start my trip, thank you!

Yelp
Thank you Newport Restaurant Group for offering such great food, service, and value at a time when dining out often feels like a total rip off. Zoe was an awesome server. Our apps (chips/salsa, guac, octopus) and drinks (huge and affordable!) were great. And our entrees were fantastic (enchiladas, burrito, fajitas). We are locals who eat out often but had never been. Didn't know what we were missing. This will be our new go-to in Newport.

Yelp
At the end of an afternoon in the City by the Sea, we were looking for a light meal & remembered that La Vecina has half priced appetizers from 4-6pm Sunday through Thursday in the off season. Perfect! It was easy to find a seat at their bar at this early hour. We love the fun, bright atmosphere here and it's a great place to eat at the long bar. There are an array of "antojitos" on their menu which make it easy to come up with a meal. We ordered the Nachos (adding Chicken Tinga and a side of Poblano Cheese Dip because there can never be too much cheese!), Beef Empanadas, Pineapple-Serrano Shrimp & a pitcher of the House Margaritas. The nachos were a surprisingly large portions - immediately making us wonder if we'd ordered too much. The chips were fresh & the chicken flavorful. We were happy for the extra cheese dip for the chips without toppings. The empanadas were flavorful and the chimichurri a perfect foil. I loved the shrimp! Sweet, spicy, savory, crunchy - the whole package. The House Margaritas are tasty and were almost too ample for us to finish. The bartender was friendly & helpful, though perhaps a bit inattentive at times - often an issue in many places during slow periods. While the prices here do seem a bit lofty for a taqueria, this is a fun place, in a great location with carefully prepared food & a fun atmosphere. Plus - the "happy hour" special makes it a good deal.

Yelp
Tried 5 of the tacos for dinner here. Good selection of drinks, and the servers were quick, knowledgeable and checked on us often. The artwork behind the bar is probably the best you'll find in Newport. I only like 3 of my 5 tacos, but I should have paid more attention to what was in them when I ordered. I will probably be back on another Tuesday to try the rest of the menu.

Ellie B.

Yelp
I'll start with a five stars for being employee owned. Congratulations! I had squash and mushroom tacos, hibiscus limeaid and table chips and salsa. I wanted to love this, but all the tortillas were oily. The service was quick and I got a lovely sunny seat right by the window. The interior is darling. The interior is adorable and I'll give it another shot in the future.

Yelp
Great spot for a bite in Newport. If you go during the week Sun-Thurs they have half price appetizers at the bar. We had a spinach salad with corn and black beans, a crispy shrimp appetizer with coleslaw and the street corn app in addition to fish tacos. Everything was fresh and delicious! I particularly love their homemade salsa that comes with the chips. Minus 1 star just because the fish tacos seemed to be missing something - they needed another sauce or component to make them more flavorful. Service was friendly and efficient.

Fran C.

Yelp
Fun vibe! Abby is a great Bartender...great Makers Mark Manhattan... fun vibe at the bar. Didn't have food, came for drinks before being seated at their sister restaurant, Barcelona (see that review too!)

Meg M.

Yelp
The drinks and the food here are always of high quality. Also their salsa is the best I've ever had. One of my fave Mexican spots in Newport.

Min Y.

Yelp
This is turning into our late night Newport snack /bite option. When we get a little hungry we order 4 chicken tacos and a margarita pack to go. It's actually much cheaper to buy this combo online. They got rid of the shrimp mango habanero and replace it with an Octopus dish. That's a real bummer as the shrimp was way better. La Vecina is superb Mexican restaurant and you should try it next time!

Phil Y.

Yelp
I should've known better. Providence isn't Los Angeles where I can get a fish taco on Wednesday's for $1.59. When I saw taqueria in the name, I thought I'd be able to get some good food at a reasonable price. They had no Wednesday special. The fish tacos were full priced at $5 each. Shrimp tacos were $4.50. The fish and shrimp tacos that we were served came on a flour tortilla and was topped with cabbage and crema. I don't recall asking for flour tortillas for my tacos. The tacos were decent. It wasn't a taco that I am used to. Service was good. It's more of a nicer sit down restaurant than a taqueria that I'm used to.

Britt D.

Yelp
I'd like to start off my saying our food was delicious! We got the carnitas tacos for 2. The meat, the corn tortillas, rice, beans, and cilantro topping was so yummy. 5/5 for the food! We really enjoyed the salsa and the valentina offered on the table . The Tres Leches dessert tasted great. Unfortunately, the serving size is extremely tiny for the price. The cake "slice" is served in the same cup they use for salsa. Typically when you order tres leches it's a square slice on a plate. We also paid $3 for a sprite (no refills), which we were fine with originally, but then our waiter brought out a sprite mini can. Which you can pay $6 for a 10 pack in most grocery stores. We didn't love that. Our bill was pretty expensive for one shared entree and 2 non alcoholic drinks. For what we paid at most restaurants would get you 2 entrees, 2 drinks, and a dessert. I also got charged $4 for an extra side of corn tortillas, which sort of surprised me because that's not something i've ever experienced at a restaurant. Based on food, vibes, and service this place is a 5/5. Based on price it's a 3/5.

Jim S.

Yelp
Had the tacos. Very good flavor but a little small for the prices. Crispy shrimp taco was excellent, and potato and chorizo was very good although not as good as the shrimp. Service was adequate although again not amazing considering the prices. Restaurant was very busy for a cold February weekend in Newport, and reservations were necessary to get a table even though everyplace else in town had immediate seating available.

Valerie N.

Yelp
We went here as part of the Newport restaurant group. They take reservations online, but we were able to get a table when we got there in the earlier side, where they offer both indoor and outdoor options. The service was okay, mainly impacted by how infrequently we were tended to. We had to grab an additional water and plates from surrounding table, for example. The food is good though. They offer complimentary chips and (spicy) salsa. Our table split nachos, beef empanadas, and the spicy shrimp. No joke, we were all already full after only the nachos. I'd come back here for the food if I was already in Newport, but I would probably find a different Newport restaurant group spot otherwise.

Katie C.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the overall vibe of this place. The music set a nice environment with a traditional feel. The chips and salsa were well made and had a good amount of salt. I also got some guacamole which had a great flavor but was 6$! The drinks were average and priced normally for the are. Now, the empanadas are a MUST HAVE. They were booming with flavor and were surprisingly quite filling. The tacos were decent. I personally want a fan of the fish taco or the rib taco (it was dry). The spicy shrimp taco was very well made and was my favorite of all. The rice is very basic and the beans were as expected. I will say that our service was absolutely amazing. The wait staff here is fast and diligent when it comes to ordering and bringing our food. We didn't wait very long for anything despite it being Valentine's Day.

Divyashree R.

Yelp
We were seated quickly and service was good but the drinks and food weren't that great.

Ray K.

Yelp
The food was very good, service was excellent and nice decor. Little things like dry limes and some gristle in the empanadas kept me from giving a five. Would return.

Katie C.

Yelp
Wonderful spot in Washington Square, Newport, RI. Al fresco, outdoor dining on a nice day, and a beautiful bar with lots of seating inside. Staff was so friendly and offered recommendations when we asked. New Chef Marianna, is making delicious food so you need to stop in for a fresh taste of this Newport Restaurant Group taqueria. We really loved the Nachos with Chicken Tinga, Queso Fundido, Tacos and Fajitas. Highly recommend the blood orange margaritas!

Andrea P.

Yelp
Food: good quality. I think the corn tortillas should have been warmed on grill prior to plating tacos. Rice and beans were good but beans were scarce on serving size. Service: no complaints very attentive Ambiance: wonderful we sat outside on a beautiful sunny fall day. Overall it's a great spot. I think there's plenty of other places with great tacos at much better prices, but here you're going to go for more of the location. Had it not been for location/ambience I'd have had to give 3 stars.

Stephen V.

Yelp
Tried Perro Salido but wait was 2 hrs ...found this gem with Al fresco dining right around the corner in Washington Sq. Good margaritas and very good Mexican dishes...that rivals food quality of Perro Salido ! Very small place that's affiliated with Bar Cino. Very cold inside so we sat outside on a nice but a tad crisp June nite. Waitress was super friendly and efficient. Margaritas we're good and food very good. Spicy shrimp burrito very tasty along with the chicken Fajita . Overall a very good experience. I do like Perro Salido atmosphere better though ....

Emma B.

Yelp
I really enjoyed La Vecina Taqueria. I came here with my mom on a busy Saturday night and we were able to snag some bar seats. We ordered three tacos, guacamole and chips and the bowl. Everything came out quickly and was delicious! The guacamole was exactly how I like it, heavy on the lime flavor. I had the mezcal cocktail with coconut cream (I forget what it was called) and that was amazingggg, I highly recommend if you enjoy Mezcal. The service was good and the food came out quickly. Only things to note ahead of time- it seems like you need a reservation for a table at peak times, and definitely bring a sweater, I found it to be really cold inside.

Gavin D.

Yelp
Wanted to try for a really long time because I love sister restaurant bar 'cino... the drinks and the food was so rough I had to leave after the appetizer.

Sasha A.

Yelp
Very narrow small space. Not anywhere to wait for a table other than the bar. There are booths so at least the tables aren't on top of each other. The table had chicken fajitas, octopus, steak burrito, and chicken quesadilla. Everything was very good, no complaints. There are no sides with these meals like you get in other Mexican restaurants. There is no refried beans or rice served with the meals. The portions were still good enough. The service was just ok both at the bar and the table. Once seated at the table drinks took forever to be served. We were a table of 4 and the drinks would come one at a time. While waiting at the bar it took 15 minutes before one of the bartenders finally waited on us. Overall the food is excellent wish the service was as good.

Kamal B.

Yelp
I'd go here again for sure. First, the house chips are drizzled in this seasoning that is very tasty and then the salsa is gorgeous. The dish that we got was pretty good and them beans were just amazing. Would definitely come here again and get new things because it looks delicious! Great staff as well!!!

Jesse L. R.

Yelp
We decided to try somewhere new today and ended up at La Vecina Taqueria. We were greeted by extremely friendly staff and delicious chips and salsa! I started with a spicy margarita, and it was excellent! For my meal I ordered the Enchiladas Rojas. These were the best looking enchiladas I had ever seen! For dessert I tried the Mexican Buñuelo, which was a crispy fried dough. It too was excellent! We finished off the night with an espresso tequilita with Bailey's! The whole meal was impressive! The restaurant was very cute inside as well! We will most definitely be back again very soon!

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Had a great experience here the other night! The food and cocktails were simply spectacular! I definitely suggest giving them a try! I got to enjoy... Chips & Salsa I had a S'mores Margarita: Peloton Mezcal, Meletti Coccolato, Citronage, Lime and Fluff! Super unique!! I had the Taco Plate for my meal.. It comes with any 3 Tacos served with Rice and Refried Beans. I selected Baja Shrimp: crispy fried shrimp, avocado aioli, green cabbage, pico de gallo, Al Pastor Pork: avocado-salsa verde, pineapple pico de gallo and Chicken Tinga: seared chicken thighs, scallions and guacamole. Really good! For dessert I went with Tres Leches: Vanilla Sponge Cake, Cinnamon, Whipped Cream & Three Milks

Rebecca H.

Yelp
We popped in honestly because we were hungry AF and because it started suddenly pouring as we were walking by this place. Our tiny "GREECE" umbrella was not going to pull it off and honestly I'm totally down to sip on a marg and gnaw on some Mexican fare while I wait for the weather to clear up. Other people had a similar idea because it was absolutely packed when we walked in at around 7:15 on a Tuesday evening during the peak of summer. There was literally one two top table available which had clearly just been vacated as evidenced by their waters that remained on the table. We decided to snag the table while we could and the waiter appeared in short order to apologize and clear everything off for us. There was numerous really enticing options on the menu and if it were bigger, I probably could've tackled more than one. They have a CHOCOLATE MARGARITA. WTF. I may need to stop back in just to sample that. I went the basic bitch route and ordered the chipotle mango margarita with a tasty rim of something I have never heard of. This was one of the best margas I've had in a minute. I can't put my finger on what about it was so good, maybe that it was so REFRESHING in addition to the interesting flavors. I also tried GF's house margarita which was just as good. Both were outstanding and worth the visit for the drinks alone. Their food menu consists of some starters, tacos, and sides. I appreciate the vegetarian options but the only vegetarian taco contains mushrooms which is not my bag, forcing me to settle for a few starters. Mexican Street Corn-a whopper of a corn cob slathered with a creamy sauce. Don't think I didn't eat the absolute fuck out of this and smear the shit all over my face in the process. It was good but could have had a little bit more flavor or a hint of heat. I recently had a hot Cheeto dusted Mexican street corn cob that was orgasmic which may be tainting my experience. Tostada de Frijol-absolutely excellent. The combo of refried beans, cabbage, pickled jalapeños, corn, and creamy and delicious cheese was incredible. This is one of the best tostadas I've had in a while. Our server was very on top of his shit and welcoming despite the restaurant being very busy which was very much appreciated.

Yelp
First timers. The place is so cute, love all the murals on the walls. We were greeted by the host and seated right away. The waitress was helpful w/ our questions. We order chips and queso to start. A beer for him and a spicy prickly pear Margarita for me. We ordered the flank steak plate. Medium for him and medium rare for me. I also had to try one shrimp taco. It was all PERFECT. We kept commenting on how flavorful everything was - right down to the slaw used for the taco! It was my birthday so we share the chocolate torte. Oh man! Heaven!! So rich! We can't wait to return, sooner than later.

Joseph S.

Yelp
Another fine addition to the dining scene! And we don't have many Mexican or Tex-Mex. We had tried them a few times as a pop-up during the pandemic. Now a spiffy brick and mortar attached to Bar 'Cino. No reservations and I expect this will soon have quite a wait. Party of 4. We had 2 pitchers of the house margaritas ($39 each - an extra serving vs. ordering by the drink). Split appetizers were the trio of salsas and chips (would recommend a bit more chips!) and queso fundido (a bit on the small side). Both couples ordered the "mix 6 tacos" which was a good introduction to which tacos to order next time. Split choc torte and tres leches cake for dessert. Damages were $210 with tip. Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Value 3/5 (average) Cleanliness 5/5 Noise 2/5 ("lively") Decor 4/5 (great murals)

Shannon M.

Yelp
Such a great experience at La Vecina!! We had a 6:15pm reservation on a Friday night and it was super busy upon walking in. This seems like such a fun and casual place to unwind after a long week of work, and get a great kick-start to the weekend. Our server, Amy, was so sweet and accommodating, and made great recommendations, especially for drinks. We had complimentary chips and salsa, which were a little on the salty side, but packed with flavor. For our entrees we had the enchiladas, carne asada plate, and the special of the day, the short rib burrito. Everything was so delicious! We were pleasantly surprised by our overall experience, from the ambiance, to the service, and drinks and food. We'll definitely be returning!

Jenna V.

Yelp
Everything about this place was great! Went on a busy Saturday night with a reservation and were seated right away. Loved all the painted murals on the walls. The mango margaritas were tasty and the beef empanadas were amazing. My group also ordered the enchiladas and tacos and everything was on point. Our server was attentive and so friendly, will definitely be back :)

Doug W.

Yelp
Tacos were quite delicious and pricing was very good for that area. Very friendly staff.

Madison D.

Yelp
As a Newport local and a member of Newport Resturant Group, La Vecina is a favorite for my friends and I! However, tonight the service could not have been more HORRENDOUS! My friend and I walked in for dinner and were told that there was a 30 minute wait. No problem! I gave my name and phone number and the hostess said that she would call me when our table was ready. There was only 2 of us. I waited outside in the cold, since there is no inside waiting area, for an HOUR without any call. I got so frustrated that I walked back inside to check on the table and the restaurant was empty. I still had gotten no call about my table. This was so annoying and have never seen service like this! SO disappointing! This makes me question if they care about their customers at all because this experience says a lot! They are lucky I didn't turn right around and walk out!

Vijay S.

Yelp
Good spot for Mexican food in downtown Newport. Didn't realize this place had been open for almost a year now. Came here on a weekday. Got the spicy shrimp, beef empanadas and taco plate. Both the spicy shrimp & beef empanadas tasted good; I loved the sauce that came with the empanadas. Their appetizers were half off till 6 pm. Got the taco plate w/chicken tinga, beef bulgogi, and crispy fish. All of them tasted great, prob liked the chicken & beef better. The mezcalita was somewhat boozy and refreshing. Overall very good experience. The inside space is connected with bar cino, but the kitchens are different.

Renee A.

Yelp
This was an impromptu visit looked good. The place has a great vibe. The food was good, solid place. Just nothing that said wow this is amazing. The closest we got was their torte special with beef and I'm not sure e thing it had but the flavor was great! We sampled and shared a bunch of tacos and also had the guacamole and another salsa. I also had the sangria and my friend had the Diablo margarita and liked it. I liked the sangria too. Was in an interesting cup! Since we were visiting the area I don't know if we be back but I would recommend as a good solid Mexican food

Linda D.

Yelp
I have been here a few times now & I keep coming back. It was a last minute decision to come last week for my friend's birthday but she needs to find someone laces with dishes that are Gluten Free. We didn't have a reservation but I'd suggest making one as it tends to fill up fast.. after mentioning to our server that it was my friend's bday, a bday card mysteriously showed up at our table signed by the people who work there, which was sweet.. Oir server brought us some homemade chips and queso type dip..it's tasty and soon you get that hot spicy kick.. she ordered a blood orange margarita, which is delicious..I've ordered this before but stuck with water that night.. she ordered the taco plate (3 tacos of your choice) and I have always wanted to to try their La Vecina Burrito filled with/chicken tinga, lime-cilantro rice, pinto beans, cilantro, onion, queso, topped with cotija, crema, cucumber pico de gallo. It honestly was the best and biggest burrito I've ever had.. I could only eat half enough for work lunch leftovers the next day.. we checked out the dessert menu but decided against it however, this restaurant connects to the Italian restaurant Bar Cino and our server brought us a surprise GF chocolate coffee budino, not a mousse yet not a pudding.. it was like eating a silky chocolate piece of heaven.. I had been thinking about that dessert ever since.. so should you go here? Absolutely!!

Emily R.

Yelp
The worst customer experience I have had in a really long time. We served ourselves the whole time. We picked out table, we grabbed our own utensils, we had to repeatedly ask for our food(which was nothing extraordinary), our appetizer came AFTER our entree and it was just queso and chips. We came on 8/26 I believe and our waitress could not care less. The only saving grace was the young man from the kitchen, who kept apologizing for the delay in our food. There was barely anyone in the restaurant. We got no water. No napkins. We had plenty of other places to go since we were tourists, and it wasn't very busy. We truly regret coming here. The food, the service, nothing was worth it--and our waitress was rude and inattentive.

Megan W.

Yelp
Gave this place a try on a warm summer afternoon. We got the sangria, agua fresca and a draft beer, the 6 taco mixer, and the rice and beans side. Our server was very nice and very knowledgeable about the menu. Tacos were street taco size, which was expected. Due to the time of day and the heat, we were able to share this food with three of us, but if we had come for true dinner, we likely would have needed to order at least three more tacos and maybe more sides. Good tortillas and the fillings were varied and well done. I'll be anxious to watch this place grow - maybe add a happy hour or rotating tacos, or the ability to choose three for a certain price. This place is in Newport, hence Newport pricing, but it feels different than the other Latin restaurants on the Wharf so maybe they will head in a different direction. Will return!!

Mike N.

Yelp
Went here with my wife and my two small mini dogs. Outdoor seating with Reservation. We came 1/2 hr early, and they gave a table that was available. Perfect timing from us. Had 3 different types of tacos - 2x fish, spicy shrimp, and a chicken tinga, and my wife had the chicken fajitas - it was tasty and flavorful I always add extra spice and lime. Price was reasonable - compared to nyc metro. The chips and salsa were actually good. The salsa taste better than most Mexican places we have been. Good ambiance.

Zack A.

Yelp
Please do not go here if you want good food!! I have only been here once but I am convinced it is meant for drunk tourists, people who don't have taste buds, and people who have never had good Mexican! I ordered the crispy fish tacos and the braised short rib tacos. Both were swimming in water from the salsa which made the tortilla soggy and bland! The "crispy" fish was zero percent crispy, 100% soggy, with zero flavor. It was mushy and reminded of something I might feed my cat. The braised short rib was decent, but still soggy and not to flavorful. Our waitress was nice but overall I would not come back and would recommend the same, I would recommend Tijuana Burrito Grill down the street, so much tastier and better prices!

Amber L.

Yelp
Food was delicious if not a bit overpriced off the portion sizes, but that's to be expected in this area. Parking was definitely hard to find. Initial greeting was quick & friendly. Once we sat at the bar, service was slow. She forgot the rim on one of the margs (the smoke show) & had to fix it. Not sure what sour mix they use, but both margaritas weren't very impactful in flavor and tasted slightly watered down. I did watch her look up the recipe to one of them as well. Throughout the meal, the bartender did check back on us but she did not pre-bus a single plate. Half the bar sat dirty for most of our meal while she refilled water pitchers, even though we could see she had plenty backed up. We did end up waiting a while for our check. All in all, a good experience. I would just say that for the money spent, the service and steps of service should be slightly better.

Jordan W.

Yelp
If you put two Texans in the middle of Newport, they are bound to seek out the nearest taqueria, and we were so pleased to have found La Vecina on our recent getaway to get our fix. After settling in on one of their perfect sidewalk tables with perfect views of this quaint corner of the city, we started with drinks- a blood orange margarita for her and an El Diablo for me, which was a classic lime with a red wine ombré floater, served elegantly in a petite martini glass. Delicious, if not a bit rich for lunch, it was giving serious vacation vibes. From their menu, we started with their chips, queso, and guacamole, and followed that up with a couple of tostadas- an outstanding frijole tostada for her and their daily special for me featuring candied delicata squash and pepitas. Along with the friendly service, it made for a perfect lunch and start to our Newport day. A taste of home in the most unexpected of places, La Vecina is a must when in town.

Yelp
Tourist Mexican eatery with mediocre food. Bartender was friendly and food arrived quickly. Nothing special. Margarita was very good.

Yelp
Impressive food all around. Squash taco, would have never thought of it. But it was delicious!!!!! Very very well! Impressed and got to try new stuff!

Yelp
Ordered the squash, queso, and three taco's. The queso was mild in heat but very gritty, and not enough chips are served in the box to enjoy the entire bit of queso. Ordered the beef short rib, fish, and pork taco's. A lot of meat is served with the tacos, fresh tortillas, little toppings - but very finely chopped. However- there was so much liquid on the underside of each taco it made the tortilla soggy. I really wanted to give them rave reviews but I just wasn't super impressed. Togo packaging is amazing. The taco box and small white boxes are really high quality and sealed. I also got two small stickers which was neat!

Yelp
Love this place. We're lucky to have such a great restaurant like this nearby. The quality is top and always consistent. It's a perfect stop before a movie or night our downtown.

Yelp
Stopped by La Vecina for a cocktail before going on a Ghost Tour. Very little tequila selections were available for a Mexican restaurant and bar. The menu displayed many selections, but the didn't have any Repsado, but Patron Silver was a perfect alternative. House margaritas were made to order and tasty. Our bartender was quick and funny. We'll be back for dinner some other time.

Yelp
Everything was great! Service, food, and atmosphere! Started with chips and queso/guac/salsa - delicious. For an entree I had the taco platter of 3 tacos with sides of beans and rice. Also great! Pork taco was like sliced pork so different than I expected and chicken was chopped chunks/cubes which was also different but everything tasted great! We will be back!

Yelp
Food was ok. Salsa was different. Usually you get a red salsa and a green salsa but this was like red salsa mixed with sour cream, not a big fan. Had shrimp tacos, shrimp very spicy and was very good. Expected the shrimp bowl to have the same spicy shrimp but not at all, just deep fried. My partner had a burrito and said it was ok. Nice atmosphere.

Yelp
The overall experience was great! Not to mention the Margarita pitchers 10 over 10 . Definitely coming back!

Yelp
For the price, food was not impressive and portions were tiny. Service was also quite slow (before 4:00 pm so not really a peak time). In my experience, Mexican generally has a quick turnaround time between ordering and getting our food--that was not the case here.
