"In a city known for its breakfast tacos, it can be hard to decide where to start your day. One place that will never disappoint, however, is La Villita Cafe. The options here are simple—think bean and cheese, potato and egg, and chorizo and egg—but everything is delicious, especially the brisket and egg taco. When you’re done eating, check out the neighboring La Villita art community, which provides a window into San Antonio’s diverse past."

We became temporary regulars of this little cafe. The foods were so good everytime and it soon became our go-to breakfast spot. The servers were kind, remembered us and sometimes gave us a little discount for returning. The food was always spot on. I had lunch here many times, The brisket wrap was so so good. No comments to make, I loved it. The brisket biscuit Benedict was always perfect, cooked to perfection and our poached eggs were always 10/10. Really well done, and we ate this day after day for breakfast. Pancakes were good! The tacos were okay, I probably wouldn’t get them again. They weren’t my favourite. Coffee was always good, chai latte was great. I’m gunna miss this place :(

Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from, I came here for breakfast and had a lovely morning! Staff was nice to me and everyone before/after me. I had the Brisket Benedict and it hit the spot. They even noticed when I finished my coffee and offered to get me more. :) Only giving 4 stars for food because it was a bit bland, but they put out salt and pepper on the tables so that's easily remedied.....didn't ruin my experience at all. It was a slow morning so maybe I'd have a different experience if it was during a rush, but even then, just give the staff the grace and respect they deserve. We're all human here. :) Overall a great basic breakfast spot with some local creativity and flair! :)

We arrived right when they opened and were told there would be a bit of a wait due to a grill issue. We grabbed some drinks and started to leave to find another place to eat. As we were heading out, we ran into (who I believe was) the owner. He took the time to explain the situation and let us know it would only be about 5 minutes. We decided to stay, ordered our food, and were very happy we did. The Santa Anna plate was incredible, and my wife really enjoyed the French toast and all at a great price.

Love this place. I tried the Brisket Biscuit Benedict; so good! It’s like an egg Benedict’s cowboy cousin. Generous amount of brisket, on a thick biscuit, savory/sweet tomato sauce on a perfect poached egg. Large amount of skillet potatoes. Gotta try it! Was told the Santa Anna Rancheros plate was delicious!

I had such a great experience at La Villita Cafe this morning! The iced latte was absolutely delicious—smooth, flavorful, and you can tell they use high-quality coffee beans. The breakfast sandwich was incredible, with a buttery croissant, perfectly cooked eggs, and savory ham. Everything was fresh and well-prepared. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the staff were so friendly and attentive, making me feel right at home. The area itself added to the charm—perfect for a relaxing morning meal. I’ll definitely be coming back! Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for great food, excellent coffee, and a warm, inviting vibe.

Google
This place is definitely very overpriced for the quality of the food. We initially got served a plain brisket sandwich as they forgot to add the bbq sauce and onions/pickles. The fries were also dripping in grease ! EDIT (In response to the owner’s reply): I appreciate the response but we had to ask multiple times for the bbq sauce and then again for the onion (given scraps) and pickles, so no, the toppings didn’t originally come on the side. I would’ve understood if the place was busy but there were hardly any customers. I would not go back, not even for a FREE meal.

Don't hesitate -- just GO! Went here for breakfast while staying at the Riverwalk for a concert. Really nice area, beautiful building with good a/c, the nicest people and the best food and drink. We got 3 breakfast tacos with varying combos, the Santa Ana Rancheros Plate (pictured), a cappuccino and regular hot coffee. Accompanying salsa was delish -- everything fresh and made to order. Now that I'm back home in MD, I am wishing I could eat at this cafe again! You won't be disappointed, just go. Excellent service and friendly, helpful people. We talked to the owner (Barry) and he was very interested in making sure we enjoyed the food and experience... thank you, Barry! Keep up the good work. We hope to come back someday for -- all of our meals :-)

Order at counter. Seat yourself. Small portion but Good taste. Food took about 40min to come out. Kinda warm inside all the traffic in and out. Plenty outdoor seating. Parking nearby

Ben R.

Yelp
The cowboy burrito and guacamole egg toast were excellent! Came on a busy Sunday morning, but we got through the line quick. Lots of outdoor seating available for when the inside gets busy. Barry brought us a free breakfast sandwich, and it was even better than my burrito! Would definitely come again and try out the lunch menu.

Yelp
The service was very friendly and fast! Our party of six ordered, breakfast tacos, French Toast and Village Breakfasts. Everyone loved their food and the atmosphere! We will be back.

Yelp
(From January, 2025) Saturday morning, walking from my hotel on the riverwalk and suddenly I'm in La Villita where I stumble upon this spot. Needing breakfast and coffee, I place my order for a pair of breakfast tacos (brisket & egg, chorizo & egg) and an iced coffee. Props to the cashier for allowing me to still order the tacos as it was a little after 11AM when they cut off selling those. I won't forget it! Food arrives and I sit outside to eat. Tacos got flavor in the flour tortilla although the tortillas were a bit hard, like cardboard texture. Nonetheless, the chorizo & egg hit the spot and the brisket was tender with some fattiness for extra flavor. Drizzle a little red salsa for some kick to it. As I ate and scanned the outside area, there's plenty of people moving that allows for people watching or you can listen to the person with the speakers playing their instruments for tips. One guy had his violin and played all sorts of tracks including the star wars theme and Benny and the Jets (Elton John); I was quite captivated by it. Solid service and food make this a cool spot that should be frequented when you're in the La Villita area.

Yelp
I lived in San Antonio for over a year, hearing all the hype of this place but never got to visit so made sure it was on the list for my recent weekend trip. This restaurant is in the older historic part of town and is within a little shop area which is cute. You order at the counter and then your food is brought out to you. I ordered two breakfast tacos (sausage & egg, bacon & egg) and my friend ordered the cowboy burrito as it was the special. I enjoyed both of my tacos and was only surprised that the sausage was not your typical breakfast sausage and instead was more of a kielbasa style sausage. As for the cowboy burrito, I think both my friend and I were surprised at how small it was as it was comparable in size to just my regular taco. The employees are very friendly, the spot is cute amd the food is good but I do think it's a bit over hyped and wouldn't be a key breakfast spot I'd recommend if only in town for a couple of days - leave it to the locals for now.

Yelp
A gem within a gem within a mess. If you have been near La Villita in the past three years you know how impacted it has been by all the construction on Alamo Street and in Civic Park. It is a hidden gem in normal times, but the "progress" downtown makes it almost like an Indiana Jones adventure just to find it. The same goes for the cafe hidden inside the village. BUT BOTH ARE WORTH THE EFFORT. The food in this cafe is better and more sophisticated than you would expect from the casual Old Mexico decor (which itself is very pleasant). The ingredients are always fresh and the dishes elevated beyond expectations. I almost always go for the omelette because of the fresh vegetables, but the breakfast tacos and homemade sauces are also excellent. On our last visit my daughter had the Artisan Village Wrap and was pleased. The Cucumber Sandwich and the Veggie Sandwich are not standard fare, and make this cafe a standout for healthy eaters. The service is always friendly and fast. Can't make it to San Miguel de Allende for breakfast? Head on down to La Villita Cafe.

Yelp
Cute and vibrant eatery nestled in San Antonio's charming La Villita historic arts village. The staff is very welcoming and friendly, and the service is fast. You can choose to eat indoors or outdoors. We got a yogurt parfait, two egg you choose, and vanilla lattes. Great breakfast or brunch spot! Easy access to the river walk and the building has clean bathrooms as well, making it a must visit for starting a day in downtown San Antonio.

Yelp
The cafe is lovely and a nice place to go to instead of an expensive hotel breakfast. It opens at 8 am. Their coffee is excellent and I learned that they use Folgers. The last time I was impressed with coffee I was surprised that it was also Folgers. There's something to be said about that brand when it's brewed right. The breakfast portion was generous, but the taste was typical.

Yelp
Great service. The cashier was extremely friendly, I regret I didn't get his name. He made sure we were taken care of and constantly checked on us. I believe the owner or the manager was also working there -very friendly. The food was good. I ordered way too much food but I got a chance to try everything I wanted. We decided to sit outside since it was a beautiful morning. I do recommend this place. Great location to stop at when your out site seeing San Antonio

Yelp
Felt very comfortable going in for first time. Small staff was helpful, genuine and kind, actually. Had the Santa Ana Ranchero breakfast plate. Very simple, yet very good and tasty. The entire property, inside and out, the RiverWalk, the old style masonry work was all tremendously pleasant to experience. Love Downtown San Antonio & La Villita Cafe!!

Yelp
Stumbled into this place one morning while staying on the Riverwalk... their vanilla lavender latte with oatmilk was very good and hit the spot! Located in a cute place with several shops etc right off the Riverwalk

Yelp
Food was good. Nothing extraordinary as we were just walking around searching for some food. Why not try something local? Super cute space. And the staff were super nice.

Yelp
It's downtown, smack in the middle of a touristy area, but it's good, y'all! The staff is super eager to please. We tried a variety of things on the menu, and everyone was very pleased. I had the chicken wrap with pesto.

Yelp
Fantastic cafe for breakfast tacos. Great quick service fair prices. Really tasty. Super filling and flavorful

Yelp
I was in town visiting and a friend suggested we try this place. When we got there the restaurant was buzzing. However, it became pretty clear the priority of all staff was a large to go order. I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich and a tomato soup for my friend. The food took 40 minutes to come out. Additionally when the sandwich came out it was another ten minutes before the soup came out. When asking the server about it, she was extremely rude. The food was okay, the fries are definitely frozen and it felt basically like something you could order from a concession stand. I am sure there are better choices around. Perhaps breakfast is better based on other reviews, but be warned of servers with attitude.

Yelp
Drinks were great. Loved the churros! The peanut butter and jelly shooter was unexpectedly tasty

Yelp
absolutely loved the fresh brunch food at this spot! My dish was flavorful. The area is perfect for capturing cute pics, with its charming ambiance and Christmas decor. It's a great place to enjoy a delicious meal and snap some memorable photos. Highly recommend for a brunch date or a casual outing!

Yelp
I hate to have to leave a poor review but I have to in this case. First, the service and ambiance are excellent, no complaints there. The food, which I argue is the most important aspect of any restaurant was the worst. There is no excuse to have the food be what it is in a place like this and being charged high prices. There were four of us and I'll break down the food and the issues: 1) All the food that was to be heated were served cold (the restaurant was no busy, it was only us). 2) omelette and pancakes. The omelette was okay but over-cooked. The pancakes clearly taste like box mix. The syrup was your basic Smuckers syrup which wouldn't be a problem but this place is supposed to be a breakfast/lunch cafe. 2) Swiss and ham sandwich - this sandwich was a basic school lunch sandwich. Ideally a Swiss and ham should be melted. I was given packets of mustard, ketchup, and mayo. Why? 3) $10 Santa Anna Rancheros. There was nothing ranchero about it. The unsalted scrambled eggs were cold and topped with "fiesta blend" cheese which was not melted, ever. The beans were clearly canned beans as well. The potatoes were cold and not fully cooked in the middle. No crisp whatsoever. The salsa was decent. 4) $11 the brisket wrap. Brisket didn't have flavor and larger cubed chunks which made it hard to eat. The guacamole should have been in it but it never was in the wrap. The iced coffee was overly sweet and not easy to consume. All were served on paper plates and paper cutlery like we were at a ball park. Again, I hate having to leave this review but I wanted to leave an honest, transparent one. We left unsatisfied.

Yelp
First time at La Villita cafe. A pleasant surprise how delicious the food is and great overall experience. We were greeters with lively and kind staff when we ordered. My husband and I had walked past it a few times since moving to SATX and visiting La Villita. We finally made time to try it. It is a very traditional and simple restaurant with a great variety of menu options (Breakfast, Salads, sandwiches and more). They have traditional American breakfasts as well as mexican breakfast options along with alcohol, coffee, tea and juice options to drink. My iced coffee was actually one of the best I've had in a while! My husband enjoyed his mango mimosa as well. I opted for a traditional American breakfast (eggs, bacon and pancakes) and my husband ordered the Santa Ana ranchero plate (over easy eggs topped with salsa, refried beans and home fries/potatoes) we shared a bite of each plate and everything was so flavorful and a perfectly filling portion! My husband and I were both so satisfied and cleaned our plates completely! We will definitely be returning and I highly highly recommend!

Yelp
Delicious food, great coffee and cool outdoor atmosphere. This is a very good walk up, deliver option in the heart of historic La Villita neighborhood. We got the Rio Wrap and chicken salad, along with a couple of lattes. The food was very flavorful (rio marinated) and savory/sweet (chicken salad). The coffees were smooth but robust. We sat outside and were able to watch all the people drift by. Entertaining and relaxed.

Yelp
YUM! I was randomly walking on the riverwalk when my stomach started growling. Not wanting to pay $25+ for a subpar hotel breakfast, I found out I was close to a place with great reviews and $2.95 breakfast tacos. Sold! They were sooooo good. Fresh, quick and generous portions. But the tortillas made it. They were so good (unfortunately i don't regularly get good texmex anymore after moving to Dallas). I wanted order a dozen to take home, they are that good! Service here is friendly and efficient. You order at the counter and they deliver to your table. Also coming around and clearing plates as you finish. 2 tacos, a soda and tip was $10. Great deal for downtown on the Riverwalk. Come here and try out their breakfast tacos

Yelp
Saw this place on yelp and the breakfast tacos sounded amazing, so I made my way to here. When I went to order, I was informed that they don't do breakfast tacos after 11 AM. I got eggs with a red non-spicy salsa, potatoes, beans Corn tortillas on the side. When I got my food, most was lukewarm But my beans were cold. The potatoes were not seasoned but thankfully they had Cholula packets on the table so I just drizzled that on top. They do have a bar and Wi-Fi if you're looking for a place to hang out and do some work. It's steps away from the Riverwalk and walking distance to most hotels.

Yelp
Amazing! The best food and service anywhere we have been. Found this gem on Yelp and it was 10 minute walk from our hotel. Service is top notch. The sweet girl and guy working were the nicest we have come across. Next time in SA we will be back! *Ash was her name! *

If you're looking for a great place to eat, then you need to come in. You will not be disappointed. We travel all over the world and this is on our top of great places to come in! The menu is amazing everything looks delicious you can't go wrong. So give it a try you won't regret it!!! I think we met the owner he was great energy from the moment we walked in!!!

Yelp
I was in town because my wife had a conference and I was working remote from the hotel and went looking for breakfast. Found this place and it was so delightful! I actually took my wife back for lunch! The staff is super nice and helpful. The tea and burgers are excellent. It's an old building but feels historic and not old.

Pamela R.

Yelp
Very friendly staff. Food is very good I had the breakfast tacos. My sister had breakfast sandwich. My mom had bacon eggs and fruit. Would recommend this place
google avatar

Yelp
When you first step inside here, the line may be long. Fear not, it moves quickly and the food is totally worth it. Great service once your order gets in. I sat outside and watched the parade of people exploring the riverwalk adjacent shops. Adding to the vibe was the sweet stray cat that appreciated a few kind scratches. I saw other food coming out and it all looked great. This was my second time here and will not be my last. I had the Santa Anna Ranchero breakfast with a side of guac and corn tortillas. Came out hot, tasted great, and would order again.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic local breakfast spot! The tacos, wraps, and plates are loaded with Mexican flavors and fresh ingredients. The Mexican Hot Chocolate was a HUGE hit with our kids. Steps from the Riverwalk, they have both outdoor and indoor seating. A must when you're in San Antonia!

Jeff D.

Yelp
Don't normally do this - but in for the weekend from Michigan - had breakfast and a lunch here. Fantastic!!! Simple and in a quieter location for those who like it calm for a bit!

Marina K.

Yelp
We happened to be in the area for an Easter event at the Tower of Americas. Everyone in the group was hungry but all the places by the tower had an hour long wait, which makes sense on an Easter Sunday. We walked over to La Villita cafe and it did not disappoint. Friendly service and delicious homestyle food in pretty surroundings.

Yelp
Walked into the La Villita Cafe about 1p for a lunch away from my desk (for once); it was relatively empty and quiet - which I prefer. As I stood there, reading the menu hanging on the wall behind the counter, one of the hostesses graciously offered a handheld menu (she may have thought I was having trouble reading it). No bother, I'm grateful she offered. Shows attentiveness. She also called my attention to the specials - which I also appreciated - as I ended up ordering a special off that board. A board I otherwise would have missed completely... BBQ Brisket Melt with fries it was for me! The food was delivered to the table quickly by a friendly face, and I LOVED it! Brisket was juicy and fries crispy. Employees checked on me a couple of different times, and cleared away my plate when I was finished. It's obvious they go above and beyond and want to ensure patrons have a good experience. I just KNOW - had I asked for something else - it would have been no problem. One of them even remembered my name (they take it when you order), and hollered a personal "Hope you have a great day, Bailey" as I left. Overall great experience. One, tiny, drawback: price. Look, it's La Villita, it's the heart of the Riverwalk, very touristy, and one of the absolute gems if you're visiting SATX, but I'm not quite sure the meal was worth the price. I mean, I even drank water... Knock a couple, three bucks off - I'm there every Friday... Beautiful space, friendly people, good food.

Yelp
Beautiful place, the staff were very welcoming and polite. The food was delicious and the drinks were great. I would definitely come back!

Ian R.

Yelp
extremely overpriced, rude, lazy staff. bland food. hot restaurant. doesn't even take cash. DO NOT GO HERE.

Carron W.

Yelp
Hidden gem with great service by one man who greeted us at the door, explained that we order at the counter and brought our meals to us. Unfortunately, I missed his name, but he elevated that experience. I had the breakfast platter which was simple and delicious and my daughter had the chicken ciabatta sandwich (she devoured it). I would definitely be a regular if I lived here.
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
A cute little local place. The coffee was good. I had the avocado toast and my husband had the biscuits and gravy. The staff were friendly and service was quick. Lots of places to sit. Check out this local spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Great environment and food. Just need a better and faster way to get the orders. I spend 6-10 minutes waiting because the cashier prepares the drinks. A little expensive in my opinion, prices on the board look OK but many extra charges.

Yelp
Great Breakfast Spot in San Antonio! The location was amazing, right off the of the Riverwalk. The food and service/staff were amazing! We tried the pancake plate and the french toast plate! It was so good.

Nanette S.

Yelp
We stopped in on Easter Sunday, and the Cafe was one of a few places open; though with limited options. We only ordered drinks, and sat outside. We went on our way, and I discovered that I'd lost my purse. By the time I circled back to the Cafe, they were closed. I spoke with Leslie the next day, who confirmed that my purse was there, with wallet, keys, etc. She worked with the owner, Barry Clark, to ensure that the purse was returned to me (I don't live in San Antonio, and had to catch a flight early Monday). I genuinely appreciate the honesty exhibited by both Leslie and Barry. I hope I can enjoy more of what the Cafe has to offer if I'm ever in San Antonio again, and encourage others to go here, if nothing more than to support Good People.
google avatar

Kris P.

Yelp
I had the cowboy burrito which was very good. The breakfast tacos and potatoes were amazing as well! The atmosphere is awesome. A guy, who I believe was the owner was walking around and talking to almost everybody that came in. He was super friendly and nice. Very knowledgeable about the area. Everything about this place was great!

Yelp
I loved my breakfast (tacos) and coffee at this cute and friendly cafe. I'd definitely go again when back in town.

Yelp
I was looking for a light healthy option near the River walk and stumbled upon La Villita Cafe. Sometimes when it's hot and you've been eating so much food and BBQ, because when your in TX, you eat! I was craving something light, healthy, and refreshing. I really enjoyed the cranberry chicken salad, served with fresh veggies and crackers, over a bed of arugula, and a side of fruit. It was exactly what I wanted, fresh, delicious, and nutritious. The service was friendly, quick, and warm. The waiter helped me make a great decision! The cafe was also super cute, each table was decorated with flowers and the ambiance was great! I stayed on the River Walk for a week and ended up coming back twice to eat here and ordered the same thing both times. My friend really enjoyed her Veggie Sandwich she ordered as well!
google avatar

Todd M.

Yelp
There was nice ambience due to the large and airy space. The food was delicious. I had a sausage and gravy over biscuits plate for breakfast. It was three portions of large biscuits smothered with a tasty white sauce which was topped with fresh crumpled bacon. The service was average to me, nothing out of the ordinary and nothing too bad either.
google avatar

Josh H.

Yelp
Wow, this is a MUST if you are in San Antonio. Came here with two of my good buddies, and the manager from the cafe helped us find a place to park. She was amazing and personable and funny! We ordered our food and I got the Rio wrap because that caught my attention and after I ate it I was like OH MY GOSH that was good. It comes with ranch and hot sauce and just a little dip in that and boom .. a taste of heaven. What I will tell you next is my favorite part about my experience. I look at a sign, and it is quoted by Barry, the owner. At the end, his phone number. Yes his REAL number, who does that! Incredible. They even let us change the channel to watch the World Cup! All around, 10/

Yelp
Really nice cafe hidden that gives real Mexico vibes. The customer service was very pleasant and friendly, plus he provided helpful recommendations. I chose their bacon & egg breakfast tacos and the ingredients were REALLY good. The house made salsa also was tasty and came in really convenient to-go containers that stay sealed to prevent spills. Would definitely recommend if you want to avoid over priced food off the river walk.

Yelp
So yummy! Stopped in while on vacay in SA. Highly recommend! Food and service were excellent.
google avatar

Yelp
They were super nice and whenever they didn't have any strawberry milk, they personally made me some.
google avatar

Linda P.

Yelp
I ordered huevos rancheros. I was not impressed with the presentation or the taste of the food. The service was very friendly but the quality of the food needs to improve. The beans tasted like they were from a can and the salsa did not taste like salsa at all. It wasn't red like it's supposed to be. It was kind of brownish looking so I'm not sure what it was.

Sunshyne H.

Yelp
The brisket is 10/10, and the service was great! We enjoyed our first time here. We had the brisket Benedict plate and the village breakfast, delicious.

Yelp
So yummy!!! Breakfast taco was delicious :) Thank you Angela for being great to us!!!
