This magical place on the Riverwalk is a perfect spot to bring your family and friends. Enjoy a great show on the stage and just a walk away. You have restaurants and great places to grab a drink. The scenery is beautiful and colorful. If you’re out on a hot day, make sure you pack a small fan and an umbrella. It’s the perfect place to take your significant other and spend a romantic day or night with them. TEXAS can get a bit spicy. lol

The historic village is a motley collection of small shops and tiny buildings. It's a beautiful place and is well maintained. They recently planet flowers around, and it's very vibrant. The atmosphere is amazing and it's a nice place to walk around and shop. The tiny buildings are adorable, and it truly has that village vibe to it.

Google
We went all over the city for shopping and this was our favorite. This is adjacent to the Riverwalk and has so many cute little shops. There are galleries, candle shops, jewelry shops and artists collectives. There's a lot to do and with the Riverwalk so close the dining options nearby are many! Check it out!

Spontaneous Christmas trip. So, not busy. Fun. Clean. Historic. Photo ops galore. These are but a few. Soooo many shops, etc.

Many shops with lovely arts and crafts. Beautiful copper jewelry, colorful Mexican clothing, candles, soaps, cards, and all kinds of souvenirs.

A historic, fun place on the River Walk of San Antonio. Lots of food, fun, drinks, and shopping!

Google
3.5 Stars. Visited near end of October. There were an few altars dedicated to loved ones. There were some cafes and restaurants in and adjacent to the Village. I loved seeing the painted skulls and Day of the Dead sculptures. There were some artisan galleries and shops. I was expecting more tents and food trucks based what I read on the website. Still an enjoyable time.

Google
I love this place. The atmosphere is awesome, the shopping is so fun and the breakfast here was on point. I can't say enough how much we loved this place. I will say though if you have kids its better to go when they are walking already. Strollers here are possible but its alot of bumps

Yelp
I was under the impression that La Villita was an actual village with people living in it, like an neighborhood. So I was disappointed to find that it's a reconstructed tourist area with a café and some trinket shops for people to walk around and browse in. It's cute but I felt it was way too touristy so I left.

Yelp
Really cute arts village with small businesses and a local cafe. I didn't buy anything, but enjoyed walking around and browsing all the shops and art galleries, which feature very talented local artists (painters, jewelry makers, and more). Some of the art is a great price for what it actually is, if I had space in my suitcase to bring some home I would consider buying a nice piece. My favorite shops to note were the Riverwalk Gallery and Bird and Pear. There is even an outdoor gallery attached, which is part of the riverwalk itself. They have already decorated for the holidays, so it's a festive little stop while in San Antonio.

Yelp
This is a very family friendly place to be downtown. We loved La Villita, bright colors beautiful art, and lots of history. It has a cute village town looking set up, you will be glad you came here! Service was different per store, but still the atmosphere was very fun.

Yelp
We went to La Villita for their Dia De Los Muertos Celebration. The area was festive with lots of decorations in beautiful colors. There was several live bands as well as a dj as you maneuvered your way through the historic area. While we did not try any of the food offerings there was a great selection of food vendors that offered everything from Gorditas to roasted corn. I highly suggest checking out this festival next year.

Yelp
Good and bad this visit. Got some great things at one of the galleries for my visiting son. However most of the shops were closed, making going to the village seem like a waste of the parking fee. Have typically always enjoyed coming here, but underwhelmed this time.

Yelp
Nice historic artisan village near the San Antonio Riverwalk. Climb the tile staircase to enter into La Villita Historic Arts Village. Love the diversity of architectural styles in this small block. From Victorian shops to Adobe homes and Texas limestone stores, it is fun to explore the cobblestone streets that served as one of San Antonio's first neighborhoods over 300 years ago. From its roots as an neighborhood near The Alamo and its role in the War for Texas Independence to its peak in the late 1800s followed by its decline at the turn of the century, La Villita has undergone many changes. It was restored in 1939 as a place to promote peace, showcase the history and allow artists to display their arts. Today, the historic buildings house shops, artisan workshops, galleries and restaurants. A nice place for a short stop while enjoying a sunny day in San Antonio.

Yelp
Rich History! You can take nice photos and videos here. If you're ever in the area, definitely stop by for a visit!

Yelp
What a strange little place. My wife and I were visiting town and took a tour bus to get acquainted with the city. One of the stops was in front of the La Villita Historic Arts Village. The bus driver told us there was shopping and historic buildings, which sounded fun, so we hopped off. The shops were supposed to open at ten and it was 9:47-so we planned to walk around a bit. We walked and wandered for over an hour, only finding two shops that ever opened. Everything else had signs in the doors saying "will return at 10:00." It became comical for us to pose in front of the doors for pictures and show the time (all well after 10). The area is very cute and is obviously rich in history. I would have loved to step into a cafe to grab a coffee or browse (and likely buy) some local art, but around 11:00 we decided to move on. This was on a Wednesday, so perhaps most of the stores have different hours than posted?

Yelp
Get off, get off, get off the Riverwalk and make your way up the stairs to the La Villita area. It's quiet, less crowded and much more relaxing shopping. The stores are owner-run and operated so you can chat with the proprietors. I found so many things I wanted to buy here (and did buy a few things at Angelita's and Casa Manos Alegres and Villa Teseros). You can find some solitude (and great items) here.
google avatar

Yelp
Now this was a good, off the beaten path place to visit! We were actually on our way somewhere else and pulled into a parking lot here. The shops are housed in small houses to resemble a village. The folks that work in these stores are so incredibly friendly it was delightful. I bought a beautiful handmade leather bracelet in one of the stores. There's no rush. Everyone has a story to tell. Beautiful artisan crafts as well as items that were mass produced. Go in for a visit - it's worth it!

Yelp
Similar to the central plaza's in most of Mexican cities, La Villita is a unique central location peppered with clothing shops, souvenir shops, art galleries and Tex-Mex restaurants. My wife and I came here during pre Dia De Los Muertos celebration while the plaza was in full decoration mode. I felt like I was walking through a scene in Coco as people were just hanging out, conversing and enjoying the ambiance. On the backside of La Villita we found the Arneson Rivera open air theatre along the riverwalk. Although we didn't get to explore all of La Villita, what we did get to see was amazing and will be back to explore the rest of it.

Yelp
This is a cute area to walk around and shop if you're looking for something chill to do in downtown San Antonio! There are many small businesses which is nice. There was construction when we visited, but the architecture and ambiance of the area is worth checking out. You should probably plan no more than an hour for here though!

Yelp
This area is located near the Riverwalk. It's a wonderful area filled with many tiny shops of arts, clothings that usually handmade. It was our last day in San Antonio and I wanted a souvenir for myself. We walked around here and found this cute little shop of handmade jewelry! At this shop everyhtbing was so cute!! I bought myself a handmade bracelet made out of horse hair! A must see area if you're visiting. Also there's a stage around here for performances.

Yelp
MUST DO! La Villita aka The Little Village This was one of San Antonio's original villages built in early 1800s just south of Mission San Antonio de Valero (The Alamo) along the banks of the San Antonio River. If you are a tourist, La Villita is a place to spend a little time strolling through the tree lined streets, visiting the shops and art galleries with a stop at the Little Church of La Villita. I had a friend that was married in the church and it was so beautiful. Many events are held in La Villita and Arneson River Theater. One of the most popular is NIOSA (Night in Old San Antonio). If you can't make that during Fiesta, the San Antonio Conservation Society can host a private NIOSASITA for you, a little NIOSA for your group. The Irish community, Harp & Shamrock Society of Texas, put on a great event around St. Patrick's Day. LV hosts a great Dia de Los Muertos event the weekend before Nov 2. My favorite event is now Renaissance on the River. 2015 it was held Labor Day wknd. Then in 2016, they moved it to the third wknd in Nov, before Thanksgiving. The weather was so much nicer and the vendors loved it and hope it stays in Nov. Parking can be a pain. If it's just a regular day, I go to the little parking lot behind LV... but if it's an event, forgetaboutit. Try some lots a block or so away. or the closest city garage (Market & Alamo which is free every Tue after 5pm). Depending on when you visit, La Villita could be empty and relaxing or it could be crazy crowded. It's fun either way... a nice piece of Texas history right here!

Yelp
If you want to hit the place - go on a weekend, we went on a Tuesday and most things were closed. Bummer.
google avatar

Leifje D.

Yelp
First time in San Antonio. Friendly people. Wonderful time and great service! Will come back!!!

Sasha A.

Yelp
Not sure what everyone is raving about here. A lot of construction going on and most of the businesses were closed. We walked through in less than 10 minutes. Not even worth the time to climb the stairs from the Riverwalk.
google avatar

Kate M.

Yelp
Really nice area to walk around with great architecture and history. We went early before most things were open, but it was beautiful and quiet and had a very pleassant stroll. Next time will come later to check out the shops.

Yelp
The wifey found this place while I was at work. Lots of cute, quaint shops for those artsy, fartsy type peeps to peruse. A really historic little village and it's just gorgeous, with old buildings, fountains and walkways. We would have liked to spend more time there, but when your conference ends at 5:00, and the shops close at 6:00, it's a little difficult. Luckily, the last day's conference session ended at 3:30 which gave us, (er, I mean her), some time to shop for trinkets to take home to friends and family. Within walking distance of all the major Riverwalk hotels. Will definitely go back when in the downtown S/A area.
google avatar

Yelp
Historic shopping village with many shops and a couple of restaurants as well! I love San Antonio (used to live there and a lot of my family still does), and when I visiting this past weekend, we had about an hour to kill before meeting some people for lunch. We stopped at La Villita to wander around a bit. It's a charming little area to stretch your legs and do a bit of shopping. There's no free parking nearby, but you can access La Villita from the Riverwalk!
google avatar

Elliott B.

Yelp
I love this little area. It's a must-stop every time for us. Sure, you won't like every shop and some of them are pretty "typical" I'll say, but there's a great variety and some great local flavor. And shops aside, there are plenty of other things that happen around La Villita. Shops are mostly art or clothing. Art includes paintings, sculptures, ceramics, metal, and Mexico themed stuff and imports. Clothing is... well, mostly girly. Some is fun whatever and some is more upscale. They also have jewelry shops, of course, and a smattering of other stuff. The cafe at La Villita is a great stop (see separate review) and unique in that it's in a touristy area and not overpriced for mediocre or downright terrible food. Def recommend the cafe. They also have a little outdoor theater / amphitheater area that's cool. Lots of historical buildings in the area and lots of old brick and stone. Just... a cool area. Def stop by, even if it's to look and not buy anything.

Yelp
Cute little area filled with local artisans of all sorts definitely worth checking out. I loved the quaint art galleries, soap makers, jewelers and other talent that exhibited their wears in historical buildings that are restored but still maintain their original charm and architecture. How much time you spend is up to you but it can be explored in an hour. Bring water and comfy shoes. :)

Yelp
The coaching staff at my school scheduled a retirement party for our amazing head coach. la Villita is a beautiful tourist destination in San Antonio. We were set up outside in the courtyard, be prepared for the weather.

Yelp
During the last YSB (yes, I know, I'm a bit behind reviewing ;) I ended up getting into one of the UYE's in this area so after the event I wandered around this super adorable village! It was so artsy and darling in a very Bay Area valencia sort of way. I really wish they'd had an event here while I was visiting because the pictures look amazing, but the space was very quiet while we were there. I just simply stopped in a few retail shops then headed back for some relax time before the YSB party continued. La Villita was a gorgeous spot and I just loved taking in the history of it!

Yelp
Quaint quiet area just a few blocks from the Alamo, and across the river from the Briscoe Western Art Museum. We discovered this mostly pedestrian little area after visiting the Alamo. I learned it was one of the city's first neighborhoods originally settled almost 300 years ago. Around 1939, La Villita Historic Arts Village was established for teaching regional arts and crafts. It also serves as a marketplace for the local artists. Now there are about 30 shops that offer local handcrafted items by artists from San Antonio. Many of the shops are small old adobe houses that have been repurposed. They sell paintings, folk art, textiles, sculptures, copper wares, and jewelry. As we strolled thru the area early in the morning we were getting hungry and discovered a few quaint places in the village to grab a bite. There is also a plaza in the center for small group entertainment. And along the river a larger indoor theater. The Village is easy to walk and well shaded on a hot Texas day.

Yelp
Very beautiful location for leisure walking. Attended a wedding here in late November and it was just perfect! Definitely historic architecture in everything here. During the wedding I saw many families walking here with their dogs, kids, seniors, etc. - good place for anyone and everyone.
google avatar

Yelp
This small arts and crafts district is located right off the RiverWalk and is home to a handful of shops offering everything from soap and candles to Mexican-style crafts. I will say it was on the dead side during my visit and maybe my experience would have felt a little more memorable had it not felt so deserted. I appreciated the historic signage highlighting the significance of each of the buildings and the district itself. It seems that the food and drink offerings here could use a little help. If you're arriving from the RiverWalk, you can easily follow the signs to La Villita Village Arts.
google avatar

Tomas R.

Yelp
Aside from the signature art scene and multiple boutiques found at La Villita. You can almost always expect some sort of festival happening. This village is available for rental and can host various size of events. I truly appreciate all of the great local shops and eats like La Villita Cafe! It's great not only for tourists but for locals as well. I always recommend exploring the grounds here and getting a glimpse into what makes our city so great!

Yelp
My family and I visited last month and enjoyed the ambiance. But in one shop, my daughter and I witnessed a woman reprimanding an employee. The woman was vicious and the poor worker looked stunned. We were shocked and left the area immediately. Is this how San Antonio treats workers?

Yelp
La Villita is located in the downtown area within easy walking distance of the Riverwalk. It is located on the street level and is just south of the Riverwalk close to the Arneson River Theatre. 300 years ago, it was one of the first neighborhoods. It has historical significance but don't come expecting a history lesson (unless you read all of the historical plaques). It is now home to numerous shopping boutiques, a handful of art galleries and a limited number of restaurants. Most of the shops and galleries are open from 10-6 (11-4 on Sunday). The restaurants will have different hours. We stumbled upon this area simply because we were eating breakfast at La Villita Café (read my review). In the heat of the day, it was a great way to be outside and still have shade. The entire area is covered by a canopy of leaves from various species of trees. Ladies, if you like shopping at boutiques so you aren't wearing the same thing as everyone else, this is a great area to come to. If you enjoy looking at and/or purchasing art, this is also a neat place to shop. The café is a great place to grab breakfast or brunch but not fighting the hustle and bustle of the touristy Riverwalk. Enjoy.
google avatar

Tim T.

Yelp
Well it's New Year's Day and 99% of the stores were closed so really I can't give this area much of a star rating. I can understand not to open early in the am but there were people out walking around wanting to go in the stores. Maybe next time I'm in the area they will be open.

Yelp
Went to the Renaissance Fair in La Villita yesterday (Nov 19). It was a gorgeous day, perfect for an outdoor activity. There were roaming magicians and jugglers up and down the alleyways. Wenches and knights walked around for you to take pictures with them. The wenches were particularly entertaining. They put on a show where men are pulled from the audience and then basically embarrass the hell out of them. A bit risqué at times, which really made it fun. Crafts people were set up throughout the area. I bought a pair of earrings for $5. The fair is in Maverick Plaza, along the Fig Tree corridor and into Arneson River theater. John Karger and his Last Chance Forever group were on the river with their amazing birds: hawks, owls, a vulture and an American bald eagle! So majestic. I can see why it is our national bird. He started the show with the hawk swooping down from a high floor room in the Hilton to snatch a small piece of food he had thrown on the ground near him. The hawk just dived like he was on a zip line and grabbed it. The hawk can see a mouse one mile away!! Good grief. It is a myth that they will take your dog or cat. Only in super extreme circumstances, like literally, no other food available. John explained the benefits each bird provides us and how we shouldn't judge them, especially the vulture. The fair benefits the Magik Theater for kids located in Hemisfair Park. I did not know this. What a good deal.

Yelp
This little arts district is nice but many tourist bypass it even though in the tourist guide. It is a little sleepy and has no brand shops. Seems like every time and even this time part of it is closed off due to a wedding. It's a popular venue for it. There was also a musical event going on at the amphitheater which was nice. It is connected to the Riverwalk and sometimes use it as a shortcut. But it's very historic and my grandmother was born in one of those little houses.
google avatar

Yelp
Such an adorable and historic area of Alamo City. Many events take place on the grounds but there is always something to do here. Many shops to check out and local artisans on display. Came to see a Mariachi Festival and had a blast just hanging out.

Yelp
My first time and Wow what an explosion of celebrations for so many cultures. Really y'all should come down to the Party that begins at 5:30pm..... the booths are volunteer run that promote food, spirits, and exploding festa eggs. You have to purchase coupons which are 1$ a ticket and the booths have signs sporting how many tickets you'll need for like sports or food. Also simple signs saying what available. So Beer and Wine are like 5 to 6 tickets. Food runs from 2-8 tickets. I tried several different cuisines....that each have a band playing fitting that cuisine culture. So for me the best was the kabobs in a stick all cooked on hot grills in the middle of a huge area surrounded by other booths that sport corn on the cob or frozen margaritas .... it seemed. The have an Asian area with spring rolls and fried up shrimp so yums. French Quarter area for example had Shrimp gumbo or Crepes. Band playing brassy tunes. Irish area over looked the Riverwalk with sounds of fiddles and Irish foot stomping jigs. Irish beer and food that presented a good feel for the culture of Ireland. So many more area like Frontier and Main Street with more bands and food.... at one point It made me a little dizzy with so much at once and the crowds are huge. What a wonderful festival all possible with people willing to give time to benefit San Antonio Arts and preserve our community ideas and culture made up of many. Lots of security to keep order and I felt very proud of our officers in blue of San Antonio. Fee at gate is I think $13-15 children under 12 with parent is free NOTE: No large back packs, no smoking and no pets unless guide dogs. Chow.

Yelp
This is a nice respite from and a short walk from the more touristy Riverwalk. Lots of nice upscale boutiques and art galleries set in the small houses in this preserved village. Enjoy an ice cream or cold beer with food at the La Villita Cafe. Plan on spending an hour or two here.
google avatar

Yelp
A fun little piece of history that has been transformed into a cool shopping center that features some very cool little shops and restraunts. Originally Spanish troops from the Alamo lived here. The old buildings, especially the little chapel is a trip back in time. A great place to take out if town visitors and show off our amazing city. Lots of fun festivals are hosted here too.

Sue L.

Yelp
We had the very distinct pleasure of spending time here while on vacation. What a delightful place. The staff in every business were very friendly, accommodating and helpful. We ended up purchasing 3 pieces of original artwork which they mailed home for us. A must stop if you're visiting SanAntonio.
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
This is a small village type place with some quaint shops. It is located close to downtown and is also connected to the Riverwalk. There's not much to see or do here.
google avatar

Rachell N.

Yelp
If you're into art (especially from smaller vendors), look no further than La Villita Historic Arts Village. While trying to decide what to do during my family's San Antonio trip, my sister and brother-in-law wanted to check out an art-related location. And suggested this place. There are various art shops within a small walking space in San Antonio. Some of the buildings also served as historic landmarks, such as a previous sewing school. The walking area is also nice and makes you feel like you're in an ancient environment. I would recommend coming here if around the area.

Yelp
I was in San Antonio for a business trip last week for 5 days and I visited La Villita probably 3 or 4 times during my stay. My hotel was so close, so it was easy for me to walk over and do some shopping. I love this little village! I think this is a must for people visiting San Antonio. There are so many cute little shops and restaurants in this area. There are also several art galleries. You can find a lot of art, pottery, stained glass, jewelry, clothing etc. Many of the buildings are a very historic part of the city as well. In the mornings it wasn't as crowded, but as the day went on, you could find more people walking around, looking at the shops. I ended up purchasing from a few different shops here and love the quality of everything!
google avatar

Jai C.

Yelp
I've always loved the little village. I get immersed in the art studios, the artists, the chapel, and just all of the surroundings. It's one of my top favorite places to take pictures - definitely ideal. I especially love the annual Starving Artists show. All artists bring their absolute best to this show.
google avatar

Yelp
This is what I love about my city! Anytime, anyplace we can break out into celebration and La Villita is one place we love to throw a party. Mixed among the specialty shops, cantinas, and historic architecture we prop up a stage with accompanying food booths and drinks and there you have it. A Fiesta! If you are visiting our fair city be sure to search around for a little festival going on and you will have all of the food, drink, and music to fill up an afternoon or evening's delight. Today's event, The Accordion Festival. Music from all over the country including polka, folk, tejano, and zydeco. People discarding their inhibitions and dancing away after a couple of Modelo Negros. $2.50 beer in the cantina?!? I think I'll have two or thrina! Shrimp on a stick, Asada taquitos, Gorditas, Flautas, Papas fritas, chalupas, roasted corn, oh somebody pinch me! Everywhere I travel I seek out these little types of functions because I know how special they are in representing the city's love for enjoying life and nowhere does it better than San Antone.

Yelp
I used to only visit La Villita one time out of the year (NIOSA) but that has recently changed... I think I have been to LV at least 6 times in these past 2 months. The St. Patrick's Day River Parade is always a hit, Dia De Los Muertos proves to host a slew of events every year, and NIOSA is definitely a blast but after my recent visit during the Maverick Music Festival, it is safe to say that I am in LOVE with La Villita. Parking is not so bad, especially with there being multiple parking lots within walking distance. I recently found a parking lot with $2 PARKING!!! It doesn't get any better than that. They keep the area pretty clean and well-maintained and there is always an abundance of port-a-John's (during events) as well as brick and mortar restrooms for all of your pottying needs. And what better back-drop during concerts than the downtown buildings in the distance, Tower of the Americas, the torch of friendship, and the beautiful SA River? The Arneson River Theatre is a magnificent touch, with outdoor seating overlooking a stage surrounded by river water and historic Mission-like bells. The shops always have new and different offerings and it's always amply patrolled for your safety. There are also nice dining options including Little Rhein, Fig Tree, Tre Trattoria, and many more. Tip: the café has an ATM inside!

Yelp
Great little historical shopping area for tourist shopping, if a combination of the two really exists. Nice area with lots of plants and shade, despite being literally steps from major downtown roadways. Have seen some great folklorico festivals here, and there's always something going on here for fiesta. Side note: if you're ever planning an event and don't mind an outdoor setting (think November-March), this place is city property and actually rents out pretty cheap. The San Antonio Education Partnership did an awesome and unique fundraiser gala here a few years ago.

Yelp
Fun place to visit. Closes early, if you're in town and close check it out. Super cute little village.

Yelp
While spending time in San Antonio we decided to stop in at La Villita to look at their shops as well as learn more about the history of the area. This area had a ton of great shops including a candle company and some pottery stores. The common area in this section of town was great and everyone we ran into was extremely polite. The final place we enjoyed stopping in at was the chapel on the main strip. Overall this is a great area to visit and we wish we could have spent time here for their Dia de Los Muertos celebration.

Yelp
Visited this place for Coffee Festival.. I liked the setting and the way it was presented. I was really glad that the parking lot was right across. There are some cool shops in the surrounding area.
