Probably one of the most popular dance venues in Buenos Aires. There are classes going on EVERY day and EVERY night, and if you pay once (I believe 45 pesos), you can attend as many classes as you'd like that day.
I'm a tango dancer, so I'd hope from one milonga (tango social) to the next, and almost always ended up at La Viruta. The floor is tile, but slippery enough. The classes are crowded but fun. There are a variety of dances going on until after midnight, when tango takes over, and GOOD tango doesn't really start until 3am.
You can get tables and buy drinks. Sometimes they have 2-for-1 drink deals. If you want GOOD coffee, you'll have to ask for Horacio Godoy (the owner). He claims that he's the only one who can make GOOD coffee and that coffee is his passion.
My favorite times for dancing were AFTER 3am on Wednesday and Sunday nights. Horacio DJs a lot and the music can get unconventional (like 4 different orchestras per tanda, or 6-song-tandas). People don't care too much, because he's Horacio :).
