"La Viruta is one of the most welcoming spaces to dance the tango. The teachers are awesome, the vibe is friendly, and the crowd is a mix of tourists, expats, and locals." - Celeste Moure

I did enjoy my visit and would recommend it to others Just to know - there are 2 different groups with similar name, but they have different schedule My review is related to Tuesday/Saturday group At the moment of writing - ticket price is 4000 pesos, reservation is not required, but if you want to stay for the show - reservation is recommended

Rude clientele made it hard to enjoy my time here. I am new to tango and this is my first time in Buenos Aires. I had taken a few tango lessons before coming to Argentina. LVT was my first real world tango experience and I don’t know if I would return. The class was okay, but almost entirely in Spanish which made it hard to follow. The big problem was that my first time going on the dance floor after class, I was chased off the floor by one of the more experienced local dancers who wanted the floor to themselves. I was made to feel unwelcome and inferior as a new dancer, which made me not want to come back. I did make friends with some locals who did dance with me, which was fun. BUT I did talk with another new dancer who also had been chased off the floor by one of the more experienced dancers. This school needs to find a way to be more respectful and welcoming to new dancers if they want people to come back.

I don’t know how to dance and spoke only a little Spanish. I booked a table for myself on a Friday evening and came for the salsa & tango classes then the show. I had a really good time. Even if you don’t understand every word of the instructors, they do a good job of explaining through body language and a lot of the other dancers speak English. If you want to try some dancing as a tourist you can do it here :)

Had a fun time last night with my friend. We would pair up with others who were also in the same beginner boat, and no one’s judgmental. If you ask the instructors to watch you/help, they do - just be vocal! The class was pretty short (or maybe time flies because it’s so fun haha) but there’s plenty of time afterwards to keep dancing. Hours are slightly off on the website? We weren’t sure if there was anything on Wednesdays. Found this schedule and sharing for all!

We did an introductory class for Malonga and tango. The instructors spoke Spanish and English, were patient, offered practical advice, and were lovely people. The space was clean and nice, and the bar and class were inexpensive. If I lived here or had more time in B.A., I would go back.

Great place, I love the atmosphere. Came here several times for the Salsa Socials, Milonga, you get a lot for the price. I didn´t like the Tango classes, there were too many people especially a lot of woman with no partners, I learned almost nothing there.

A great fun, energetic place. A husband & wife are the best tango teachers who gave English dance classes. One price $6USD for all dance classes and dance party in one night. Lots of people, the interior is clean and pleasant. The opposite of the above is La Catedral Club.

Yelp
This was my favorite milonga when I was in BA. They had an excellent live band and performance. The free lesson before the milonga was very good. It was spacious with a bar that served small plates. Everyone was very friendly.

Yelp
Don't cry for me, Argentina!!! I will return and come to La Viruta for more dance lessons! La Viruta was SO MUCH FUN!!! It's in Palermo. Inside an Armenian cultural building of sorts (for some reason, I dk). It attracts tourists AND locals. They offer many types of dance and once you pay (approx $5ish/300 pesos in Feb 2020), you can stay for as many classes as you like. And after 11:30pm, it is free! Classes are over and it's milonga time! On Friday and Saturday they usually have live bands and it's so entertaining! PLUS, a live TANGO SHOW! Ask for a strong drink and ye shall receive. The service is slowwwwwwwwww. Brace yourself. And brace for the restrooms as well. Nevertheless, bring an extra comfy pair of shoes with you, because your feet will hurt from so much dancing! Lots of nice people to meet and they also run promotions (4 classes for the price of 2). Do keep in mind there are TWO DIFFERENT PROMOTIONS, used on certain nights. Read the fine print! Enjoy!!! :-)

Yelp
5 star salsa, milonga, tango instructors, from all levels such as people with 2 left feet (me) to advanced learners. 2 stars for the heat: the air conditioning gets overwhelmed when over 30 people are inside. Mind you, I went on a Thurs night and with 60+ people, hacía mucho calor. The drinks are reasonably priced, and entrance for 80 pesos gets you as many classes in the same day as you want. But I guarantee by your third class you'll be exhausted, physically and mentally.

Yelp
This was a really fun experience! Our group of 8 came here to take our second round of tango lessons while visiting Argentina and we had lots of fun! They split the groups into beginner and advanced sides and our beginners group got a male and female instructor. They both spoke English and Spanish which was nice and were very positive, upbeat and friendly. The dance lessons lasted an hour and then they pitched us to pay and come back for more lessons. The experience overall was fun and we all had a good time learning some new steps! I would recommend this venue to someone looking for fun tango lessons

Yelp
Great hidden gem tucked away in the basement of a very corporate-looking building. It's a great place to hang out and watch people take dance lessons, and then just have a fun time afterward. We weren't able to stay for the live orchestra/band, unfortunately, but the crowd on a Saturday night was diverse, fun, and friendly without being too packed.

Yelp
I have been dancing tango for 2 years now, taking private classes, seminars, practices and after hours and hours of work I now think that La Viruta is not only the great place to learn and practice it's also the only place in BA that allows truly passionate tangonieros dance the night away. When I am in BA I end up in La Viruta pretty much every night, but especially I love it on Sundays after 2-3am. The marble dance floor is fantastic. Love the space.

Yelp
Probably one of the most popular dance venues in Buenos Aires. There are classes going on EVERY day and EVERY night, and if you pay once (I believe 45 pesos), you can attend as many classes as you'd like that day. I'm a tango dancer, so I'd hope from one milonga (tango social) to the next, and almost always ended up at La Viruta. The floor is tile, but slippery enough. The classes are crowded but fun. There are a variety of dances going on until after midnight, when tango takes over, and GOOD tango doesn't really start until 3am. You can get tables and buy drinks. Sometimes they have 2-for-1 drink deals. If you want GOOD coffee, you'll have to ask for Horacio Godoy (the owner). He claims that he's the only one who can make GOOD coffee and that coffee is his passion. My favorite times for dancing were AFTER 3am on Wednesday and Sunday nights. Horacio DJs a lot and the music can get unconventional (like 4 different orchestras per tanda, or 6-song-tandas). People don't care too much, because he's Horacio :).

Yelp
Famous for very late milongas, ie tango. Free after 3am, people will fill up this space around this time. Get a locker (need to pay) to keep your stuff safe. Casual atmosphere, lighting is very "night-clubbish". Must stay until 4am when breakfast or Desayuno is served. Best place for medialuna y cafe con lechè. Dance till you drop - till 7am

Yelp
I was traveling with a diverse group of friends and my mom... and we all loved La Viruta. The group was comprised of people of many different dance levels; my mom a skilled ballroom dancer, one friend and I years of dance experience, and the rest no experience at all. However, everyone got out and danced. We got there early for the 2 lessons, and then the freestyle dancing. Alcohol was pretty cheap, we ordered a pizza as all that dancing made us hungry. Prior to finding La Viruta, we tried 2 other Milonga places which sucked! THis is the place to go!
