This has been the worst hostel experience I’ve had in El Salvador. The rooms were dirty, my sheets had stains, and the amenities were poor. It’s obvious the staff doesn’t care about their guests, only about money. We paid for two nights in advance, but after a terrible night’s sleep (two people snoring loudly in the same room, and bunk beds that squeak and move with every turn), we decided we couldn’t stay another night. When we politely asked the staff to cancel the second night, they refused any kind of refund, even for $15, hiding behind a “no-refund policy.” We weren’t even asking to be reimbursed for the first night, only to cancel the one ahead, since they told us the snorer would stay several more nights. The beds are uncomfortable, the rooms feel unclean, and after reading other reviews mentioning bed bugs, I completely believe it. This place clearly does not care about its clients or their comfort. I would not recommend La Zona Hostel to anyone, save yourself the trouble and stay somewhere that actually values guests.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights and it wasn’t too terrible as it was just a place to sleep however the images look nothing like the rooms. There is also no AC in the rooms just a very load fan. Also not very social. Wouldn’t really recommend staying longer than one night here. It was also a 15min drive from downtown and not much near by.

Decent hostel in a really nice, safe part of the city with plenty of international restaurants, bars, and shops around. It’s about a $2–3 Uber to the central part of San Salvador and around $8 to the Boquerón Volcano, which was very convenient. Good for a short stay of one or two nights, comfortable overall, though the third floor gets quite hot and AC would have helped. Slightly pricey for the region, but there aren’t many solid hostel options in the city. Breakfast was a great deal at $5, and the 24-hour reception was a big plus. My only wish is that it were kept cleaner, especially on the third floor.

I unfortunately had a very bad experience at this hostel. They were spraying very strong chemicals on the beds and around the rooms to fumigate the hostel because there was some sort of bug (or maybe even bed bug) problem in the past. The hostel did not seem to have any proper protocol in place for this. They didn’t close down the hostel or move people into any different rooms. They simply started spraying all around the beds and living quarters.

The chemicals began making me very congested, I couldn’t breathe properly through my nose at all.

I tried to speak to the staff about how badly this was being managed but they didn’t seem to care. Not recommended!

Really disappointed by this hostel, if it was $10/$8 I’d have given a better rating but they’re charging $15 for a basic room with noisy unstable beds, no curtains, cold showers, the room had no natural daylight. The two woman in reception were cold and showed zero interest. The only friendly interaction I had was with the younger man who works late. You need to add another $6 on to the price as it’s far away and no bus services, it’s around $3 each way in an uber (sometimes more). It’s surrounded by fast food chains in an area with no character, nowhere the area is very safe and clean. For what I paid I was expecting a way higher standard, this place has so much potential as common area is great but it just needs a little more love and soul. Also, the breakfast was pathetic, cheap bread with some jam. And there is no where else nearby to have a decent breakfast.

Not a bad hostel, location isn't the best as it's quite far from the main square. Free breakfast is good and tasty. No bar but has a communal area where we met some people. Staff are nice. Beds could be improved.
