Good food, much more interesting than Fon's Kitchen up the hill (Thai). The issues are: No restroom, exit and walk downhill to Public Restrooms (ugh!). It can easily be too cold/foggy, or too warm/SUN! Invest in a few collapsible windbreaks and an overhead awning that fully blocks the sun, please. The restroom issue is maybe a bigger problem--if they rent, unlikely to invest in a major renovation to fit one in. The food is worth it, if weather cooperates. I would not bring visitors there, I am but willing to endure, for the food! I live too far away for takeout to be practicable. (Should consider a move--places open up regularly in Belfast!! So much going for them, they deserve better.) Did I mention the helpful and polite staff?

Google
Three of us had a quick lunch here on a weekend. The server was nice. This is a family operation and the quality shows. The food was fresh, good ingredients and nicely presented. We ate on the deck which has a really great view of the harbor.

Google
Came here for lunch but unfortunately there was a power outage. They can only serve salads and code appetizers. We had the Asian salad. It tasted kind of blend. The location, however, is excellent. You can sit outside at the patio and have view of the water front. The server was also courteous.

Google
Rob the owner of the local sushi restaurant Satori recommended the Lao Iced coffee and it off the charts! I didn't know about it, so I wanted to share as a little inside scoop summer chill drink. 🧊☕ Lovely service and the restaurant is getting towards being an icon Belfast spot. 🙏

Google
We tried Laan-Xang's Laotian dishes here - the larb & Lao fish pocket. The dishes were beautifully presented, felt authentic, made with fresh ingredients and flavorful. Although we're not shy from fish sauce, sometimes Southeast Asian food can taste strong on the fish sauce & fermentation. We felt like this place nails it perfectly to show off native flavors in an approachable way for Westerners. Love seeing a diverse offering thrive in this small community! 🌠🌟✨️

Google
First time eating there and I will be back. As a matter of fact heading to Belfast today so I know where I’m getting lunch. Small place but awesome. The staff was great and the food delicious.

Ben

Google
My first time having Sai Ghock (sausage) -- amazing flavor and texture. The Lao fish pocket was also flavorful. There is no bathroom in the restaurant, but there is a public bathroom down the hill across the street.

Google
The food was easily the best of any asian food I’ve had in Maine. They even accommodate my wife’s shellfish allergy. If you’re in Belfast, it’s a must visit.

Yelp
Unfortunately we won't be back. We've been coming for many years (not that often but about 8 - 10 visits) and while the server is absolutely lovely, we can't justify $60 for a lunch for two when the food has grown to be so ... uninspired. The Cornish game hen is served with some boiled? frozen vegetables that have no sauce and are absolutely tasteless. My pho with beef had 3 ingredients, broth, noodles and a couple pieces of beef. No vegetables at all, and this time not even any fresh sprouts on the side like I used to get. It was ridiculously simple, 3 ingredients and hardly any beef. Have always liked you but I think you've gotten tired of making the same food over and over. If we are going to spend $60 it has to be some tasty food and some generosity on the part of the owner.

Yelp
My new favorite! We ordered takeout and it came fresh, hot and DELICIOUS! Everything I ordered was hands down the best I had ever had. The flavor was incredible. The Pas See-Ew was perfect - juicy and flavorful. The crab rangoons were sweet. And the Lao Crispy Egg Rolls left me craving for more even though I couldn't stuff any more into my tummy. I highly recommend and will definitely return.

Yelp
Definitely a hot spot in the town. The owners are super nice but they are always busy. The food was pretty good but nothing phenomenal. On the other hand the view was phenomenal right overlooking the water.

Yelp
Review for dinner on 5/28/2021: This place does not have indoor seating, but offers a great view of the River in Belfast. We ordered Lao crispy egg roll, Lao Fish pocket (Mok Pla) with sticky rice, and the mongo sticky rice as desert. All food were delicious, with the fish being the highlight. The fish and veggies were wrapped in a steam bag that keeps the warmness and the curry flavor. The sticky rice was served in a separate bamboo container.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Belfast. Pad Se Ew is perfect and the fish steamed in a pocket is beyond perfect.

Yelp
This is a small place with a little seating on a patio. So I am guessing it is mostly for a Togo type place for locals it if you want to walk down closer to the shore. I tried a Special Chicken Naam I think it was called and the peanut sauce was delicious. Glad I found this place.
google avatar

Fernanda D.

Yelp
Really excellent. Had the tofu red curry. Generous portion, right amount of sauce, nicely spiced. Lots of veggies; eggplant, zucchini, squash, mushrooms, bamboo, peppers, carrot, green beans and fresh basil. All cooked just right, not mushy like in some places where they pre-cook all the veggies. Thai sweet tea was also well made. Deck sitting area has a nice view. Service was fast and attentive.

Yelp
Great flavors, great service, large portions, takeout is packed thoughtfully. There's a newer Thai restaurant in town just up the road, but they're catering to those with smaller appetites and larger wallets. I only wish this place had indoor seating and/or resumed outdoor seating in the summer!

Yelp
Ok I really want to support this business because their food is really quite good, however the last two time I've shown up at least 30 minutes before they close wanting a to go order I'm told it's too late and are too busy to make my food, I find this unacceptable . I hope they get a lot less busy soon , I'm unsure if I will go back I'm a little salty about it , the counter girl was a bit too happy to deny service to me

Shui C.

Yelp
It's a small cute place for Thai and Liao food. Very tasty and unique. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Pam H.

Yelp
Consistently good experience very. First visit I had Tom Yum soup. Cleared up my sinuses pronto, highly recommended for that alone and the taste was in point! I have tried numerous dishes and am never disappointed.

Babolat H.

Yelp
We stopped by for a quick lunch on travel from Acadia national park to NJ. Very happy with the decision to have lunch here. The vegetables in the dish is super super fresh, the sauce is delicious. It is rare to find a place serve the food in this high quality. The owner is from Lao and the food is authentic. We will mark this restaurant for our future trips to and from Acadia.

Yelp
Awesome Thai food right in Belfast down by the water front. We've eaten here a number of times over the last 3 years and it's always delicious. This place is very busy in the summer, has limited seating both on the outdoor patio and inside. It's a small family run business and their food is great! All homemade so if you're looking for fast food try some place else. We had their crispy egg rolls, pad see ew with chicken and Lorb. Everything was fresh, hot and excellent. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Chive dumplings are amazing!! Very friendly service. Edamame is also great. Highly recommend.

David F.

Yelp
Great food, wonderful family and staff, fair prices. Don't expect fancy cutlery or a lot of tables and chairs. Do expect food made with care, with great flavors and decent portions, served cheerfully by people who care.

Yelp
Wow. We drove an hour to eat some Asian food and we were rewarded justly! The outside dining is perfect. The server as busy as she could be and friendly and efficient! We ordered the spring rolls. Crisp hot with a bit of a creamy texture. Fabulous! Next came the drunken noodles and a red curry. Both had beautiful fresh vegetables and were cooked to perfection. The curry had the perfect kick without killing your tastebuds and the drunken noodles cooked just right. We will be back to roam this beautiful town and have another great meal here.

Yelp
The food was delicious! Recommend the chive dumplings-doughy on the inside crisp on the outside. Our main dishes were also delicious (Thai basil and house special coconut red curry) which were very flavorful and just the right amount of spicy. The ambiance is very cute and family orientated (drawings from the owner's daughters on the wall add an adorable touch). The outdoor porch has a great view of the waterfront. While we would definitely return just for the food, the service is what really made the experience wonderful. The owner and her family were so sweet. We stayed and talked with them for quite a bit-they were so nice!! We learned that a number of their veggies come from their own farm. We will definitely return (most likely after the winter hehe). Would most certainly recommend !

Yelp
The Tom Yum soup was very tasty. The broth is spicy were it will leave your lips tingling. Light veggies and a few pieces of chicken. Delicious I had the Asian Salad. Love simple meals that the flavor is allowed to shine by not adding too many sauces. The combination of cilantro, rice noodles and dried onions is just fabulous. The portion is huge. Very good. It's family owned and we were served by their friendly daughter. The view was spectacular overlooking the harbor. Wish we lived closer.

Yelp
Super unique find in Maine! Love having sticky rice as an option for some entrees! The chive dumplings were delicious, although it may be a little too oily for some. There's no outdoor dining here during COVID but there were some nearby tables and seats my friends and I were able to find in some public areas to eat our food.
google avatar

Yelp
I went to Maine maybe around 6 years ago and when I went with my family to eat here for the first time it was super delicious. The fried rice was incredibly the best and I recommend ordering that if you're a first timer and don't really know anything about Thai or Viet food. The owners were super nice and great friends with my parents. I like how you can see the view of Belfast when you eat outdoors and get the nice breeze while you're eating but they also have seating indoors as well. I don't really like Maine that much but I'll definitely come back just for this restaurant. would def recommend if you're craving Thai food or just want to spice up your eating choice;))

Yelp
Not impressed at all!The food had no taste &anything that did have taste it was A greasy taste! It was so bad I actually called &complained. Now I understand why they have been in the same place for I think he told me 9 yrs&I had Neva heard of them! I just hope someone who has never experienced Thai doesn't start there BC they will think Thai food is gross!
google avatar

Deb H.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful Thai food, the best we've eaten in Maine! Great service, super friendly staff! I had the Drunken noodles with super fat noodle and it was fantastic. Husband had the red curry that was spicy and flavorful with fresh veggies! Overall just great!

Yelp
Whether you've been to Asia or just looking for great authentic food...this is the closest you'll get without actually being abroad. Laitian, Thai & Vietnamese cuisine right here in Belfast. If your not in a rush this would be a recommended stop, reason I say no in a rush because it is a small venue and they cook by order, so with the busy crowd you can expect a wait but I ensure you it will be well worth your time. I've only been here twice but both times have gotten the chive dumplings as an app, so rich in flavor and well cooked. Today for the entree I gambled and got the Sai-Ghock which is homemade sausages stuffed with ground pork, herbs and lime leafs. So glad I ordered this dish because you could tell the prep work that went into the Sai-Ghock took a lot of passion. Very well seasoned, and cooked enough to melt in your mouth with an amazing flavor bomb. Also came with steamed vegi's, definitely will come back here next time I'm in the area. Always a well earned treat

Yelp
Verrry good food. I recommend the mossoman yellow curry or spring rolls which are sooo good. Sometimes when I'm walking through town with a friend I will pop in and grab some spring rolls for a quick bite to eat, that's how good they are.
google avatar

Yelp
I loved finding this great Thai food in the heart of lobster country. Sitting outside in the evening having drunken noodles. Bliss.
google avatar

Jill A.

Yelp
I first started going here for the basil fried rice then I got my son addicted and my daughter followed as well! I LOVE the pineapple sauce with their egg rolls, favorite! The owners are warm and inviting. The atmosphere is awesome. I recommend Laan Xang to everyone!

A L.

Yelp
Amazing views, food, and service! Our waitress was also great about checking in on us, extremely friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu - she gave us great recommendations based on some of the dietary restrictions in our party. I hope to visit again soon!
google avatar

Sarah F.

Yelp
I have thoroughly enjoyed many lunches and dinners in the lovely restaurant. It is ideal in the summer, when there is a patio with a fabulous view of the bay. The interior seating is quite limited, so it is generally better to get food to go in colder weather. They grow many of their own vegetables and have a nice selection of Thai and Laotian foods to choose from.
google avatar

Heather S.

Yelp
Just finished delicious pad see ew and wild boar basil. Absolutely my favorite restaurant in Belfast. I've been to Thailand a number of times and love Thai food. I'm so thankful this place is in Belfast. There are a few Thai places here and all are good, but this is our favorite. The patio overlooking the harbor, Laotian choices and authentic flavors make it the best. Pad Thai is on point, but don't limit yourself to the old standby. Everything we've tried is great. On a chilly day enjoy a pot of tea. I already want to go back!

Mike J.

Yelp
Wow what a great place to eat lunch on the deck..The food is fresh and crisp and amazing. The flavors where perfect in the drunken noodles. Fried rice could not have been better and the waitress was working her butt off, was all alone on a busy Friday buy was a true pro.
google avatar

Rob L.

Yelp
Superior Thai food. Unique tastes. Great location. The only thing I'd like is if they were open before 5pm.
google avatar

Jeremiah M.

Yelp
Delicious. Quality food. Small menu. 12 bucks for many different dishes. Fast and friendly service. Will definitely come here again. First visit was so good now I want to try everything else they serve.
google avatar

Yelp
We were visiting Belfast and decided to order enough food for our big extended family. The chicken and sirachi fried rice were great, the pad Thai was excellent and the kai ka prow was absolutely outstanding! They even threw in a free order of goyza. Wonderful food; we'll be back!

Yelp
Ate here last week with my brother and niece. Sitting outside was very pleasant under the partial canopy. My brother and I loved the unique dishes and their delicious flavor. I got a mild chicken and peanut sauce, and he got a spicier pork dish. My niece isn't a big fan of Thai food, but she often orders Pad Thai. She didn't care much for the more pronounced fish sauce flavor of this particular Pad Thai, but I tried it and liked it pretty well. It is different, though. Overall, everything tasted very fresh and delicious.

Nathan G.

Yelp
Visiting Belfast and just got to-go from here. We were blown away. I don't usually write reviews, but the Sai-Ghock sausage absolutely blew my mind. Flavorful, comforting, with a perfectly crispy grilled skin. 100% will I eat here again.
google avatar

Scout N.

Yelp
Everything we had here was so good and authentic. The summer rolls were fresh and had the best dipping sauce. We had the Tom-Yum and the Chicken Raam...outstanding! Owners are friendly and welcoming. This will be a stop every time we are in Maine.
google avatar

TG W.

Yelp
Oh boy we love this place. It's tiny. The hours suit the owner. But the food!! And the view of Belfast downtown and harbor from the tables on their deck! Just wow. Try anything on the menu. Fresh, local, delicious.
google avatar

Katie N.

Yelp
Super cute place. We wanted to try the Laotian food but what we wanted wasn't available. The larb and the stew are seasonal. The chicken curry puffs were the best. The pad Thai was good not great. I prefer a bit more umph. Overall, good place to grab a meal. Affordable and tasty.

Marshall G.

Yelp
Might be the worst meal I have ever tried to eat. We threw most of it away. $50 of worthless food. I know times are tough, but this was simply unforgivable. WARNING: AVOID!
google avatar

Becky B.

Yelp
Great local gem in Belfast right by the water. The patio looks over the water. BYOB also. Great Vietnamese coffee. Highly recommend their sole fish with sticky rice. Really nice family owned place
google avatar

Mare S.

Yelp
Was in Belfast on first day of a Maine road trip. Arrived at lunch time and wanted to eat near the water. We both really enjoyed the two meals we shared, a special chicken dish w cilantro and greens and scrod cooked in parchment that was a bit spicey, in a great way! Can tell that anything they make is probably great. Ate outside, great view. Terrific place for lunch.

Carol T.

Yelp
Best meal anywhere in Maine we've had yet. Sole on banana leaf with slightly spice coconut curry. Cooked in parchment paper. Fresh vegetable on top with sprigs of thyme. Unbelievable good. Lunch mate at pork stir fry with vegetable. Looked good. Both served with sticky rice. Yummy.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
A remarkably bad customer service experience. We called at 7 to place an order for pick up and are told the order will take 50 minutes because they are very busy. No problem. We arrive at precisely 7:50 and a server is closing down the restaurant and when I say we have an order for pick up, we are told there is no such order and are told that we may be confused and should go to another Thai restaurant. When we got back home and checked my phone it shows the call was made to their restaurant. If they had just said we are closing it all would have been fine. Incredibly poor service and a sad way to end an otherwise nice stay in Belfast.

Lynne K.

Yelp
This is the bottom end of Thai and Laotian food. Boring, unimaginative, and sometimes just plain bad. Some items, like the dumplings, are obviously bought from restaurant suppliers. I used to eat here frequently, so I should know about the menu (I'm a slow learner. I wanted it to be good). When you have a steady stream of tourists, you don't have to make good food people will come back for. They are obviously just shoveling it out to make a buck.
google avatar

Jess R.

Yelp
The Thai food is mediocre but the Lao food is excellent. Try the Sai Ghock sausage, a family recipe. Also: excellent outdoor seating looking over the harbor.

Bee S.

Yelp
This place has a beautiful setting with a patio overlooking the harbor. On most days they are open for lunch. Why then, on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon are they closed? I stopped by later, before 5 to see if they would be open for dinner and the woman said they were closed for a private party. That party was a group of teenagers eating supermarket birthday cake and drinking cokes from bottles. The owners are inconsistent with the hours in general and the food can be inconsistent as well. He's cooking, she's cooking. Sometimes the chive dumplings are crisp and good, other times greasy and soggy. Don't order the curry puffs. What you get is flabby, barely fried, uncooked, cheap pastry dough with a teaspoon of tasteless filling. I was once talked into getting the cornish hen for 14 dollars and it a small half hen with a very mild flavors and plain vegetables on the side. Way over priced. The rice noodle dishes are, as is typical in many Thai places, too sweet without any depth of flavor. Also typical of restaurants that feature summer rolls, they are filled mostly with rice noodles, sloppy and fat. Some appetizers are good: the fried shrimp rolls and pork dumplings. The bill can really soar if you order a lot of apps and a couple of entrees. I've honed the experience to sitting on the patio, ordering a couple of apps and the salad with fried springrolls.

Sharon F.

Yelp
I have always had delicious food here but my most recent experience left a very bad taste in my mouth. After freezing my buns off outside so that the staff could finish eating inside I was offered a cup of hot tea which seemed like a nice gesture and not uncommon in most Asian restaurants. It seemed less gracious and more like a ripoff when I saw that it was actually added to my bill. Adding insult to injury I opted to pay an additional $ to have rice noodles added to my soup (which already cost $5.50) because I was really hungry and thought it would make it more substantial. There were less than a teaspoons full of noodles in my soup. My entire mok pla was delicious as always but being nickled, dined and basically swindled did not sit well. I told my server this before paying my bill

Elsa G.

Yelp
Beautiful view, great service, pad thai with different levels of spicy is suited for all tastes. Good menu. I will definitely go back!

Lauren T.

Yelp
Delicious meal, great view and friendly owner. Get the chai dumplings, you won't be disappointed. Would definitely come back.
