Incredible experience with the monk who lead our visit. We had a very nice chat with him during 2 hours talking freely about life, love, truth, friendship, trust. No one trying to be true or more important or knowledgeable. I could have spend days talking with him. And the temple himself. Just amazing, beautiful, inspiring.

It's something that comes from within, the morning freshness, the noises, the smells all together that make this place magical. I love that place and if you are around just to come spend five days.

The Taer Monastery is one of the most well visited and famous Tibetan temples in the world outside Tibet and was built in 1583. One of the key highlights was the Butter Oil sculptures which were all handmade and it involves the monks dipping their fingers in hot oil with butter and then forming the shapes in cold water..

Awesome place to experience Tibetan culture and their spiritualism. Join the morning kora around the monastery, head to the small hill opposite the river to get a good view, and just wander around.

Labrang monastery is one of the largest in Tibet and the tours provided offer an in depth look at the workings of the monastery. The tour guides are monks with some English fluency who communicate their culture adeptly.

An absolute must if you are in Gansu - you can easily spend an entire day here walking around, meditating/praying, and talking with the friendly monks (several of them speak English).
