Super interesting Museum built in the former Justice Court that used to condemn illegal Absinthe Producers :) You'll discover not only the history, but also the mythology around green Fairy as well as the preparation secrets. The triple degustation at the end is a must!

Great museum on the history of absinthe! We enjoyed lunch there and, of course, enjoyed the absinthe tasting!

Visited after the famous "creux du van" hike! Got to know a lot about Absinthe: why was it banned, how the ban was removed, and why the regulations are important. Some specifics: 1. Super friendly "english speaking" staff 2. The museum is just "wow" 3. The best part: Absinthe tasting (more than worth the price according to Swiss standards) after the museum visit. I would recommend going for 3 different Absinthe varieties (10 ml) instead of 1 (30 ml), which is slightly expensive (7 chf vs 5 chf), but completely worth it! A must visit if you are in Neuchatel or Noiraigue!

Super experience! I took the tour with a local friend. I was amazed at the details and the History. The interesting part I enjoyed was viewing the individual stories. From Sister Odette to the common man. I come from the United States so I could not help but to think of American Prohibition. Then noted to my Swiss Buddy the history of NASCAR in America! So similar are both stories. The sampling at the conclusion is great too. Glad to pick up a few souvenirs at the gift shop. Well done to all involved in this wonderful exhibition! Trigger warning for people of colour. Part of this exhibition depicts colonisation with the most vile images of a Black skinned person being beaten by a white person. Our tour guide acknowledged that the images were not “politically correct” but yet these pieces of “art” are still hung on the walls. We can’t erase history but there are less traumatic ways to depict it without repeatedly inflicting harm on people of colour. I refuse to acknowledge the existence of this place while they continue to display such horrific imagery. Standing looking at this image ruined a fantastic day in Switzerland for me, made me very uncomfortable and upset.

Nice museum explaining the history of absinthe - how it is made, how it is served, and also the politics behind it. I definitely learned something new today! The visit is also special since it is in the charming town of Môtiers, which is in the Val-de-Travers valley where absinthe originates from. The museum exhibits are only in French and German, however there is a short explanatory film at the beginning with English subtitles. At the end of the museum visit we were able to try 3 different kinds of absinthe - 2 clear and one green. Our server spoke English and explained the process to mix the water and sugar with the absinthe to make the drink. The museum has a nice terrace where you can sit amidst the absinthe herbs and enjoy a drink on a sunny day.
