Lace Market Hotel Nottingham

Booked a Superior King Room for one night whilst visiting Notts.||The ground floor room was decorated beautifully, definitely lived up to the display photos I saw whilst booking. Everything was super clean, nice provisions in the bathroom and mini fridge.|Plug sockets were well placed around the room, mattress and pillows were comfortable, nice desk area I could get a bit of work done at.|The staff at the desk were also really nice and efficient!||Now for the really unfortunate parts:|1. The soundproofing is next to nil. Any noise or chatter going on in the rooms either side and above me, and outside on the street was crystal clear. Footsteps, talking, whispering, toilet flushing, and other plumbing/pipe activity in the building. I consider myself a really good sleeper, but this night was rough.||2. Need some kind of instructions for the heating. I understand the size of the room might not be that efficient to heat, but the one slim radiator on the wall was super hot to the touch, and the room was still cold. Ended up giving up trying to figure out the controls and just bundled up with the complementary robe and blanket in bed.||3. In hindsight, I should've asked about this - but I was a bit curious as to how opaque the bathroom blinds actually are. With the lights turned off inside, I could see the street outside to a moderate degree. Since I wasn't sure if this would also be true the other way around, when the bathroom light is on, I gave the bath a miss (lest I give passers-by a free show).

One night stay with my gorgeous wife - this place is AMAZING! Easy check in, looked after our bags prior to room being ready. The room was perfect with character and style, over looking the church. It was quiet at night and the bed was big, very comfy and spotless. The pub attached is cosy and welcoming with charm and some VERY strong beers! Try it! The chap behind the bar was cool! (Sunday night) Location - perfect Room - perfect Breakfast …. never made it (lol) Cleanliness - perfect Staff - perfect Overall - PERFECT Thank you, see you again

We booked the Christmas afternoon tea and we were not disappointed. Carl, who greeted us was so polite, friendly and attentive. Christina, who made everything for us did a cracking job. Plenty to eat; soup, sausage rolls, variety of sandwiches, scones with jam and cream and variety of little cakes. All washed down with a glass of Prosecco and cuppa to finish off. Definitely recommend

I stayed in room 33 on the top floor and unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing from the moment I arrived. The room was extremely stuffy and had a damp smell. I understand it’s an old building so the windows may not be openable, but the internal glazing was also broken and the air-conditioning unit on the wall didn’t work either, leaving us with no way of getting any fresh air at all.||The condition of the room was very poor. The carpets were genuinely disgusting, and the plug hole in the bath was filthy and rusty. The room felt very tired and badly maintained. This was especially frustrating because the lobby gives a false impression of a renovated, well-kept hotel, but room 33 clearly hasn’t been updated in a long time.||The pub attached to the hotel, the Cock & Hoop, was just as unpleasant. It smelt strongly of old beer and drains with an overall musty odour. I even heard another group of guests commenting on the smell, so it clearly wasn’t just us.||Breakfast didn’t improve things either. The food was very average, one of the coffee machines was broken, and the coffee itself was poor quality.||Overall, this was not a great experience at all. The hotel looks appealing at first glance, but the rooms and facilities do not match the impression given.

I was so excited to stay at The Lace Market Hotel, one of Nottingham’s so-called best with its Georgian charm. The reception looks great, staff were lovely, and the quirky old lift adds character. But that’s where it ended. The hallway smelled damp, and my Deluxe Double Room felt hot, musty, and tired. Windows were fogged with condensation and couldn’t be opened. The mattress was lumpy, the sink blocked, skirting chipped, and the bathroom sealant mouldy. You can hear everything, taps, chains, even the guest upstairs using their basin. Great location, but no onsite parking. The Lace Market car park costs £16–£19.50 a night, with no hotel discount. Staff were kind and offered breakfast, but no real follow-up or compensation. Beautiful building, but sadly, all shabby, no chic.

The food was really good and the service excellent . The Chef Christine came out and told us a little about each dish and asked what we would like instead of fish which we both have an allergy to . Also we turned up an hour and a half early and Tia the barmaid arranged for our tea to be served as soon as possible . We thought we would have to wait until the allotted time . We would not hesitate to recommend the Lace Market to all our friends and family and we will call beck when we are next in Nottingham

Beautiful afternoon tea, the choice of cakes was amazing especially the choux buns. Great choice of cakes mixing the traditional with lovely fresh new flavours. The service from Carl was exceptional

Tired hotel, tired room, tired evening Receptionist and ultimately tired guests. |Ripped and slashed curtains in the room. One curtain wouldn’t close which, as the room looked directly out onto a busy road (3 yards away) with street lights, meant that the room was lit like daylight throughout the night. The room was noisy inside and out - elephants moving in the room above, dustbin lorries outside at 5am. All features conspiring to a poor nights sleep. |There’s more ….. no decaf coffee in the room, 7mb internet speed, no plug by the bed to charge phone/watch and poor security - able to bypass Reception by walking straight through to the room from the pub next door. All this for a bargain price of £185 for a single Thursday night’s stay.|The only redeeming feature was a lovely breakfast served by lovely staff. Complained when checking out which resulted in a 15% discount.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. We were greeted at the front desk by Sarah who we saw each day in our 3 day, 2 night stay. She was always there to help us with directions, extra towels and everything else to make our stay the best it could be. We wanted to explore and enjoy Nottingham. Could there be a better location than this boutique hotel? No! You can walk everywhere from this spot. Most of what you will want to visit is within less than a mile and so much to see within say 5 minutes walk. There is no hotel parking but the Lace Market public parking is maybe 4 minutes walk away and if you get your ticket stamped by the hotel the price you pay is about 40% of the public rate!! Our room was super spacious and clean, nice view and right next door to St Mary's church and the National Justice Museum. All the staff were friendly and helpful but with "Covid masks" it was sometimes sad to not interact as much we would have liked. Breakfast was included in our room - a spacious restaurant with myriad choices (Continental) and a plethora of hot choices including the "Full English Breakfast" of course. They also have their own pub "Cock and Hoop" - excellent but allow me to make that a separate review :)

Restaurant Review Merchants at The Lace Market Hotel Nottingham Welcome Home. We were invited to taste the New Menu at Merchants Restaurant Nottingham on Friday. We were swiftly greeted by Restaurant Manager Kieron who talked us through the Menu. The new offering boasts 'Bread & Olives' 'To Begin' 'To Share' 'From the Grill' and 'Classics' options, giving the Menu more of high end Bistro feel. We began with Summer dishes that easily exceeded expectation. The simple description of Sea Trout, Beetroot Fennel & Grapefruit was enough to tempt us, our other choice being the Scallop, broad bean gazpacho, goats curd & olive dish. Both starters were simple and elegant with a well thought out balance of texture and taste. The gazpacho was perfectly seasoned which is extremely difficult to execute (trust me I've tried and failed enough times!) Paired with a Malborough Pinot Gris it was as if summer had finally arrived in style. Again, the Main courses offer a huge variety with new flow to the menu, allowing the guest to decide on sharing, plated, or classics with Head Chef Ben Chaplin and Sous Chef Terry Hayfields take on 'nostalgic homely classics' which I felt was a lovely touch. I opted for the Entrecote, Sarladaise Potato & Cabis served medium rare. The flavour was immense, so simple but again a balanced flavoursome dish. Our other main was the Whole Baby Poussin, Balsamic Roast Peach with Roquet & Parmesan Salad which again highlighted the art of simplicity in Summer cooking. To finish, we shared the Banana Parfait, Burnt Toffee & Pineapple and the Jasmine Creme Brulee with Almond Tuille. A delightful way to finish a meal that well and truly sees high end Bistro dining back on the map in Nottingham. It is time for Nottingham to re-engage with Merchants Restaurant. It is clear that the team have thought long and hard about the direction in which they intend to travel. Their journey has begun and we will certainly be back to join them very soon to see where it is taking them. This is a lovely hotel and the location is perfect, but its proximity to a night club means there is constant street shouting until the wee hours. In addition there is a downstairs bar/restaurant in the hotel which stayed open until well after 2am on one of the nights of our stay. And the noisy lift next to our room up and down all night, plus drunken and noisy guests in the hallway was another bonus. Sleep was impossible, and as that is my main criteria in judging a hotel I would not stay here again in future. I should not this is a review I started in late August, so maybe things have improved. The reason I didn't publish this straight away was because we were told the manager would be in touch with us about our complaint (she never bothered).

I can only comment on the cocktail bar, which is very pleasant and has some style. It was pretty quiet on a saturday until 7pm, when a few diners arrived, service was pleasant but a little, almost amusingly, slow. I suspect he wasn't very experienced, but in all fairness if it wasn't on the list he'd look it up and have a go. I'd call in again.

This is by far the best boutique hotel we have ever stayed in (and we've stayed in a few - we make a point of choosing a lovely boutique hotel whenever we are lucky enough to have babysitters to enable us to get away for a night or two!). From the friendly staff behind the Art Deco reception desk, to the huge bathtubs, elaborately-dressed Georgian windows and sumptuous king-sized beds (with the nicest sheets in the world!) and the delicious breakfast served in bed, our stay there was perfect. Lots of little touches (such as posh toiletries in the bathroom) really made our stay special, and the breakfast was included in the room price, which made it very good value. There are only a few rooms, and they are tucked away in intimate little corridors, so it's the perfect spot for a romantic weekend away. It's tucked away opposite the Pitcher and Piano in a little side street, within easy walking distance of the centre of Nottingham.

Has its ups and downs. Merchants restaurant is fantastic. Easily the best in Notts, certainly the best thing about the hotel. Bars are also very good. The hotel needs a serious clean and renovation. stains on the carpets and walls, bathrooms arent cleanits a shame as its a great old building in a nice area. Very loud on a weekend but thats the area (although the bar down stairs is also very loud). Staff is usually quite good and helpful.
