How to Visit Hvar, Croatia — Underwater Wineries, the Cleanest Swimming Water in Europe, and Bioluminescent Caves

"“As you approach the island of Hvar by boat, you're immediately captivated by the striking contrast of vibrant blue waters and lush green landscapes adorned with vineyards, olive groves, and pine,” said Ante Lacman, owner. “And this stunning scenery is complemented by a rich tapestry of history and culture.” The operation focuses on small-batch natural wines sourced from the island's native grapes, with tastings served on an outdoor terrace perched over the Adriatic. Lacman also emphasizes the island's living culture and hospitality: “The spirit of the Croatian people is infectious; we cherish laughter and camaraderie. My mother, at 80 years old, effortlessly walks 22 kilometers a day. I invite you to visit Croatia, immerse yourself in Hvar’s charm, and experience our way of life — it's an experience that will leave you irrevocably enchanted,” says Lacman." - Kristin Braswell Kristin Braswell Kristin Braswell is a travel journalist and the founder of CrushGlobal Travel. We had an unforgettable lunch experience featuring peka (traditional meat and vegetables slow-cooked under the bell), paired with a tasting of five excellent local wines. Each wine was thoughtfully selected to complement the flavors of the meal, and the staff offered great insights about each variety. The meal ended on a sweet note with a delicious homemade dessert. The setting was stunning-with breathtaking views that made everything taste even better. The service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. A perfect blend of tradition, taste, and atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Amazing winery with stunning views and outstanding service. This was one of the highlights of our trip. The views from the top were absolutely breathtaking, and the staff made us feel so welcome. We were served by Boris, who also makes the wine, and he was incredibly kind and knowledgeable. We did the 6-wine tasting, and every glass was fantastic. The whites were crisp and refreshing, the reds were smooth and full of flavor, and the rosé was perfectly balanced. Everything tasted so fresh and unique. You can really tell how much care goes into their wines. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area.

So worth the drive! Pulled up as the first ones there and was initially hesitant we had ventured to a dud - wrong. We sat inside for the 6 wine tasting led by a super friendly and charming host plus tasty snacks. After we sat on the edge of the most incredible view I have ever enjoyed a drink over, dangling my feet over the vast green depths in the sunshine was a memory bank for sure. Go!

Our visit to Lacman Winery was an unforgettable experience! We booked the private transfer, which turned out to be a fantastic choice. Our driver was not only professional and friendly, but also incredibly knowledgeable. He shared so much about Croatian history and culture, and even made a few scenic stops along the way that made the journey feel extra special. Once we arrived at the winery, we were welcomed into a beautiful, peaceful setting. The wines were absolutely fantastic—you can truly taste the craftsmanship in every sip. It was clear that everyone at Lacman takes great pride in what they do, and that passion really comes through in their wines. This visit was a highlight of our trip to Croatia. If you're a wine lover or just looking for a unique and enriching experience, I highly recommend a visit to Lacman Winery. You won’t be disappointed!

We stopped here as part of a "bike and wine" tour. It was exceptional. We sampled four wines and had an excellent charcuterie board to accompany the white, orange, rose, and red wines we tasted. The wines were served to us by Boris, the wine maker. He did a great job providing information about how each wine was made.

We had the wine tasting booked, we were disappointed that it wasn’t possible to sit on the side with the beautiful view for the tasting but had to sit inside. The wines were tasty though the wine portions were rather small considering the price. We would recommend to go there just for a glass of wine if you want the nice view and not book the tasting.

For fans of natural wines, rejoice! Lacman Family Winery offers 6 great natural wines with views of the valley. The highlight for me was how new the winery is and how it’s truly family run and operated. The daughter of the founder was the one to give us the wine tour and she was excellent!

Great restaurant that serves local wines . A great opportunity to taste their wines and have a platter of cheese and salami with it for a set price per person of 10 euros . The wines to buy per bottle however are quite expensive so we decided to buy at another vineyard where prices were more affordable . Despite that the view over the sea is fabulous and makes this a perfect spot for a dinner and sundown.
