13 Essential Portuguese Foods to Eat While in Portugal - AFAR

"A bustling, trendy Porto café famed for a standout regional specialty that layers cured ham, linguiça, steak and melted cheese on thick bread and drowns it all in a hot tomato-and-beer sauce; the indulgent sandwich is a local hangover cure and a must-try for first-timers despite long waits." - Kevin Raub

We were seated quickly. If worried about room for your big party, email them to make a reservation. Food was delicious and staff was courteous. Keep in mind, you can ask them for a spicier one if you'd like. Mine was hard without cheese and still so delicious.

The place we tried famous Francesinha and loved. If you are not too hungry - recommend sharing one for 2 people, you won’t end up sleepy. Super Bock craft beer was really nice too.

Even though the restaurant was full, we were seated very quickly. The service was helpful and friendly and the Francesinha was excellent. After a negative experience at a competing place down the street from where we left, we enjoyed our evening here.

This was my second visit to porto the first time I had Francesinha in other place and I thought that ot was overrated , then a friend recommended Lado. It is the best Francesinha I have tried, the meat was super juicy and medium rare very high quality. The sauce very delicious can not wait to come back to porto and eat again.

I think they’re using the same potato chips for different tables. As soon as I sat down, they placed a small bowl of potato chips on the table. After my main dish arrived, the waiter took it without saying anything (it was full). Another waiter noticed the suprised look on my face and brought it back. But then it happened again- twice during the same meal. I ordered the vegetarian francesinha with french fries, not my flavor but the sauce was good.

Tried the Franchesinha here. It's a must try dish in Porto. Unfortunately it wasn't to my taste but that isn't a reflection on the restaurant. The service was really good and the atmosphere was great. It's a really nice cafe. Modern. It's a shame I didn't like the famous dish. But from other reviews, this is the place to try it.

Known as the best Francesinha in Porto, right next door to their direct competition, but you can't go wrong either way, try them both! We also had the hot dog sandwich, forgot what its called but it was delicious as well :)

We shuffled up into this mother to try the famous francesinha of Portugal. I have not marked the restaurant down despite me not enjoying the dish. The food was all cooked well and having vegan alternatives is always great. There’s beers and food was very reasonably priced. I just find the dish to be weird.
