The Danish Island Responsible for the Salt at the World’s Best Restaurants

"The Læsø Saltsyderi (saltworks) is where Læsø Sea Salt's production is entirely unique, made by a process where groundwater is heated in a large iron pan over a fire until the salt crystallizes. Visitors can see the ancient salt making process at work."

Was my third time here. Had a great time here to see how they make the famous Læsø salt from the sea. This time was especially good because a co-worker took his time to explain us (in German) how the salt is made and how much resources are needed to make the salt that special. Thanks for the short tour!

Really interesting learning why something basic like salt taste differently. Guide Flemming is great and has been doing this for 30 years.

A very interesting salt manufacturer that shows how salt is made by heating brine in large wood fired pans.

It was okay to see the old process, its free to see and something to do, and If youre on læsø then by all means stop by. But unless youre a salt enthusiast theres not that much of a need to go just for it. And read the signs or they get mad 'læs' in danish means read, so læsø translates to 'read island' so remember to read! Even though everything is only in danish and german.

Nice if you don’t have anything better to do. The salz is tasty though.
