Lago Mar Beach Resort & Club

"So, can you give us the wide-angle view of this place? Where is it, and what's it like?Though it’s home to more than 200 rooms and suites, there’s something about Lago Mar that makes it feel rather intimate. Part of that is likely due to its secluded location in Fort Lauderdale’s tony Harbor Beach neighborhood, which is close to all the action—the city’s downtown Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District is just a 10-minute car ride away—but still far enough away from all the bustle to offer you some peace and quiet. Located on its own private 500-foot stretch of pristine beachfront, the resort exudes an old-school tropical style that’s both sophisticated and comfortable. Well, it sounds lovely. Who else is staying here?Let me preface this by saying that there are plenty of quiet nooks to be found for you and your significant other, if you want to feel like you have the place to yourself—but, the resort is popular with young families who appreciate its beachfront location as well as its slew of unique, family-friendly amenities including a mini golf course, basketball, and volleyball courts, ping pong and foosball, plus a children’s playground right on the beach. So, couples looking for a romantic getaway shouldn’t count the resort out—there are enough activities to keep the kids busy and tired. We even met a handful of honeymooners on our last trip. Got it—good for kids, good for couples. Can you tell us about check-in?For more than 50 years, the resort has been run by the same family—and hospitality is clearly in their DNA. The check-in process was quick and painless—better, even, than we expected. (We arrived several hours ahead of the appointed check-in time, just to drop our bags off, and were thrilled to learn that they had a room ready for us.) Oh, we love it when that happens. Now, onto the good stuff: Tell us about your room.Because our trip was a bit of a working vacation, we opted for an Executive Suite, which is made up of one bedroom, a living room with a sofa bed, and a balcony—ensuring that my tap-tap-tapping on a keyboard into the wee hours of the morning wouldn’t interfere with my spouse’s sleep. Though the rooms are fully equipped with plenty of modern amenities, the décor channels an Old Florida tropical style that marries a traditional sensibility with state-of-the-art amenities. The neutral palette mixes nicely with the rooms’ custom wood and rattan furnishings. It’s elegant without being flashy, which works for the property—especially if you opted for an oceanfront room (which is worth the splurge), as the view is the real star. Also, the rooms embrace technology, but don’t go over the top with it. The complimentary Wi-Fi was as high-speed as they promised (which isn’t always the case with a beachfront property—especially one with hundreds of rooms), and iPod docks are always a nice touch. And splurge, we will! You mentioned the WiFi—is there anything else we should know about in advance, or any little extras we can expect? The only thing worse than Wi-Fi you have to pay for is free Wi-Fi with a weak signal. Fortunately, Lago Mar doesn’t have that problem. I spent a few hours each day online getting work done and didn’t experience a single hiccup with my connection. In addition to a Keurig coffeemaker, each room comes with a microwave oven—which is a great little bonus if your eyes are often bigger than your stomach when you’re dining out (read: me). The higher up you go with your room type, the more extras you’ll find; Executive Suites had a wet bar and refrigerator, while the Deluxe Suites have all that plus a miniature Sub Zero refrigerator/freezer, a convection microwave oven, and a double-burner cooktop. If you’re traveling with kids, these can be a lifesaver. Sounds like they have all the bells and whistles. Now, how about room service, and the dining options, in general? What can we expect? With four restaurants and two bars, it would be easy to spend a few days at Lago Mar and never leave the property. And why should you? For breakfast, the casual Palm Dining Garden Room offers a hearty start to the day with a well-stocked breakfast buffet (which costs an extra $17.95 per person per day) and à la carte lunch options. The pool area’s Ocean Grill is the perfect place to grab a quick sandwich or burger in the midst of your sunbathing, while the Soda Shop—a sort of hybrid ice cream shop, coffee bar, deli, bakery, and wine and cheese shop—is always buzzing with activity. When the weather allows for it, the pool’s Promenade Bar offers a nice selection of light bites and drinks (and is so close to the pool itself that you can literally sip on a cocktail while your kid splashes around). Given the resort’s throwback feel, ordering up a frozen drink—be it a daiquiri, a piña colada, or a Miami Vice (which is one half piña colada, one half strawberry daiquiri)—just feels natural. When the sun sets, you’ll want to hit up Wine Cellar Lounge for a pre-dinner glass of vino; there’s always a featured selection or two, plus a few sparkling splits and more than 20 varietals by the glass. Dinner at Acquario—where executive chef Phillip Damien Kahn and his team spend each day sourcing fresh and often local ingredients, then devising a menu around what looks good—is a must. Naturally, seafood is one of the menu’s stars, but it’s served up in ways you might not expect (like a plantain-crusted snapper). If you’re ready to tuck in and try a little bit of everything, opt for the three-course (which is a steal at less than $40 per person). In keeping with the resort’s family-friendly mantra, there’s also a kid’s menu, so everyone will be happy. How was the service? Was there any staff member in particular who impressed you?Truth be told, I can be a bit of a lazy traveler; so if I’m at a hotel that offers a range of culinary options, I’ll often just stay put to try them all, which is exactly what we did here. We ended up dining at Acquario twice, and were waited on by the same server both times. She remembered key details about our first meal and specific dietary considerations, and took it upon herself to suggest some plates on our behalf. We welcomed the suggestions, and were thrilled with her choices. Any other services or features you want to shout out? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.Though many would consider Lago Mar a grande dame of a property—and rightfully so—it’s hard to ignore the fun vibe that permeates every corner of the hotel’s common spaces. Whether it’s a giant (playable) chessboard or the regular games of shuffleboard, there’s always something going on and someone encouraging you to join in (if it’s not a hotel employee, it might be a fellow hotel guest). The best thing you can do is jump right in and enjoy the atmosphere. Perfect! So, bottom line: worth it, and why?Definitely. The hotel is well-priced, especially for the amount of space that you get, and it offers so much to do for every type of guest—group games, great restaurants, a fabulous wine bar, a heavenly spa, a private beach, a gorgeous lagoon pool area, live entertainment, tennis courts and a range of other sports—that there are very few reasons to venture beyond the resort at all." - Jennifer M. We love Lago mar!! Our family has been going for over 60 years and we brought a group of friends for a girls weekend this past week! The day Nicole was there was the best!! She treated us so well and truly makes our experience one of a kind! She wasn’t there on Saturday as planned which made us so sad to miss her and it really was a different experience without her there. She goes way beyond your expectations of amazing service and has such a fun, bubbly personality that we love to be around. She helped make our dinner reservations for Thursday and Saturday which was so kind and helpful. She’s been such a blessing to our family over the years and we keep coming back because she treats us so well!! We can’t wait to come back in a few weeks for our family vacation and hope Nicole is there with us again!

Enjoyed our stay at Lago Mar. Lots of great activities available and also places to relax. The grounds were maintained and rooms comfortable. Lots of friendly, helpful staff. We loved being able to rent a beach cabana and enjoy the pools. Because we traveled by plane, it was nice to have towel service for the beach and pool that was included in the stay. Even the bathrooms that were out in the public pool area were clean… which is something we appreciated immensely. For the breakfast bar, we loved the waffles & omelette bar. We also liked having access to drinks and food near the pool area when we needed it.

We went down to Lago Mar and have been going since I was a baby. This time we decided to take my best friends and her bridesmaid for her bachelorette weekend! Nicole has always given us a 5star experience, so I was excited for the girls to experience it too. She was only there for one of our days, and WOW….. the experience is completely different when Nicole is there vs when she isn’t there. We were so sad when she wasn’t there and had such a better time and hospitality when Nicole was present. |||Also the 2 bedroom ocean front suite made me rate a 4star experience. Like I said we have been going since I was a child and our room this time was smaller and air conditioning didn’t work good in one of our rooms. ||I hope next time if we pay more for a suite we have a better stay. I also hope Nicole is there next time for us to have the true Lago mar experience!

Lago Mar is a beautiful small beach resort tucked away in south Ft. Lauderdale. It has all of the amenities for an active or relaxing vacation: beach volleyball, basketball, beach soccer, pickleball courts, playground for the kids, mini golf, 2 pools (one is for adults only), gym and full spa. It also has a small, but comfortable conference room area for parties or business activities. ||We are locals, but we like to come to this resort to spend long weekends and every time we have been here we’ve had a terrific time. The rooms are very comfortable with nice views and service is always outstanding. During our most recent stay we had particularly excellent service from Reginal at the pool restaurant. ||Great place all around!

Oh how much we enjoyed our stay here!!! The amenities, the breakfast, the beach direct in front of us… Cocktails sipping, enjoying the sunset, everything was just perfect!|There was one person who made our stay even better than excellent: GUILIO our waiter !!!|He made all the difference to other places. His whole persona, paying attention to the smallest detail, always smiling, attentive, professional - without being “in the face”. Just because of him we would come again. Finally a waiter that understood hospitality - not giving you the check immediately when you just sit down (super rude) , he is paying attention to the guests needs and works accordingly- BRAVO!!!|Thank your for your excellent service - thank you GUILIO!!

This property is located in a residential neighborhood at the south end of Ft. Lauderdale. It is a quiet setting, family friendly and car dependent. The entire resort is in need of a facelift both aesthetically and structurally. The rooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. The bathrooms are small and the pillows were like 1000 cotton balls and need to be replaced. I had to ask to have our rooms cleaned as they didn't service them the first day. After that they came every day and left us extra towels. We spent all our time at the adult pool which needs to be cleaned daily as the chlorine was thick and the water hot. The food was very good. Specials each day would improve the menu as it is the same every day. Sitting outside is lovely. The staff could do a better job clearing tables quicker so that the birds aren't swarming taking food left. Minor handyman construction was going on in a few places which seemed odd given it was spring break. I would think that could be scheduled during slower months. It is the kind of place you root for as it is family owned and run.

Google
Room size is great. More than enough space, beds were comfy and very cozy in general and the room was clean. Room spaciousness is what stood out most. Location is phenomenal. $20 uber ride from airport, right on the ocean, private resort pool is great. Dining and drinks on site. Service is fine. Everyone looks a bit tired but can’t imagine the Florida heat doesn’t exhaust service workers outdoors. They are friendly enough. Planning another trip back for sure.

Yelp
Lago A true gem with even better people -- especially Keithra Brown! We've been coming to Lago Mar Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale for years -- it's a treasured family tradition going back to my childhood. I grew up in Fort Lauderdale and our family were members of Lago Mar since I am a baby. Now, as a grandparent, I bring my own grandson here. It's more than just a resort to us -- it represents the very best of Old Florida: elegant, laid-back, clean, safe, and full of charm you just can't find much anymore. Think Palm Beach meets timeless Fort Lauderdale. There are tons of activities for all ages, and the consistency year after year is something we cherish. We've stayed here twice in the past 12 months and always leave refreshed and happy. But what made our most recent stay extra special was the incredible help we received from Keithra Brown. She went above and beyond to help us resolve a very complicated third-party booking issue (my mistake, not the resort's). It was honestly hard to even explain, but somehow she figured it all out and made sure everything was handled smoothly. Her professionalism, patience, and genuine kindness blew us away. She's a true asset to the Lago Mar team. Lago Mar is our favorite place in the world -- a place where memories are made year after year. Thank you to the Banks family who have remained true to the essence of Lago Mar that always makes me feel like I am coming back home. Thank you to Keithra and everyone at Lago Mar for keeping it so special.

Yelp
This was the worst experience Ever My family and I are from miami we came on a two day staycation And let me start off by saying that our room was beautiful the view was okay bathroom amazing We checked in Friday night room 421 We went down to have a late dinner My daughter has the chocolate cake which she loves and it was very dry they replaced it with a pie which she isn't a fan of but we let it go went to play basketball had a great time then back to our rooms sleep Next morning Saturday we wake up 10 come downstairs & we ask which places are open for breakfast they tell me the bar by the pool opens at 11 I had 9 min to wait till okay perfect Went to wait by the bar the only server there took everyone order or greeted them mind you the people around me are white but what made the difference between me getting same treatment as them ? not once did she make contact with me I tried not to let this ruin my day and my stay but I can't stand rude service I've worked in the service industry and also in the medical field I have seen my share of mean people, rude people & racism but when you come to a hotel in Florida that's never what you are expecting specially from a resort that's been in bossiness so many year I cried so much and felt so bad for canceling my family's trip but this was the worst experience in my life I'm still crying we left in such a rush that I left my husbands things behind

Yelp
The Lago Mar Beach Resort and Club was my favorite out of the three different resorts we stayed at in the Fort Lauderdale, FL area back in early June 2024. A deposit of $397.25 was required. Our suite #464 which included one bedroom with two queens and a couch was $325 (not including tax) each night. It was nice and clean, but there were a few things that were either outdated or needed refreshing. PROS + free parking included with stay (valet available too) + 2 SemaConnect Electrical Vehicle charging stations ($2.00 per hour charging fee) + beautiful, clean pool + beach access (over 500' of private beach) + private cabanas, chaise lounges, hammocks, steamer chairs and beach umbrellas; attendants available on beach + basketball + beach volleyball + children's playground + foosball + oversized outdoor chessboard + pickleball + putting course + shuffleboard + tennis courts + on-site dining (Acquario & The Promenade Bar were our main haunts. Lol.) + comfortable pillowtop mattresses + fast Wi-Fi + Keurig coffee maker + microwave oven (we brought our own popcorn!) + in-room safes + plush bath robes + room service + concierge service + laundry and dry-cleaning service + spa (did not partake so I have no opinion) CONS - pools are closed temporarily for tree trimming on Wednesdays - pool closes too early in my opinion - no more fresh clean pool towels available after 6PM (learned that the hard way on our first night) - cock roach on first floor - rude teenage boys in pool "who lived nearby" The staff was great. We would go back in a heartbeat. For more info, visit their website at https://lagomar.com/.

Yelp
We stayed here after getting off a cruise before flying home. The rooms were large, clean, and beautiful. The suite comfortably fit my family of 5. The pull-out sofa bed was actually two twin-size beds in the same sofa, which was much bigger and nicer than the typical hotel pull-out sofa beds. The view was beautiful and the resort is on the beach. We used the mini golf, pickle ball court, pool, and beach cabanas. Every activity was included and very well maintained. We got treats at the soda shop and the service was excellent! The lady at the front desk was very courteous and helpful. We would definitely stay here again! The resort had enough to do on property that it could be a beach vacation destination itself. The only minor drawback was not having a second shower in the second bathroom. It was just a half bath. That's the only thing we noted, and it's really a nit-picky detail. Wonderful stay all around!

Sara T.

Yelp
This is a wonderful place to stay. Reviews reported it as dated and yes, it felt like I stepped back in time, but that is not a bad thing. The service was reminiscent of 1960s excellence and the room size and views give the impression the owners still really care about preserving their reputation. The owner still comes in 5 days a week to check on everything. The pool is fantastic and a great time. The adult pool is deep and relaxing. The all ages pool has live music on certain days and a bar that serves all day. The private beach is wonderful. Yes they charge for chairs and umbrellas but it's worth it to only share space with hotel guests. The water is clear and fun to look wildlife. When we come back to Ft. Lauderdale we will only stay here. We were treated well and felt the price was worth it.

Yelp
I visited their pool side bar. The service was pleasant and swift. The food I tried there was good, especially for a pool bar. The pool and grounds are very pleasant. This hotel is situated in a wonderful spot right on the water, with a huge span of a private beach.

Yelp
This is a beautiful spot that I discovered back in my government days. Back then, I didn't have kids, but I do now and it is the most family-friendly spot in Ft Lauderdale. It's out of the way and just very classy and wonderful. I cannot say enough great things about the Lago Mar.

Yelp
Lago Mar Beach Resort and Club is my preferred hotel in the Fort Lauderdale area. So far, I have stayed here twice--once in 2021 before a cruise and again in 2023 before another cruise. This hotel is a short drive to/from the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the Port Everglades cruise terminals. Lago Mar has been family-owned for several decades, and it was rebuilt in the 1980s and 1990s. The hotel contains a couple hundred standard rooms and suites that I think are very reasonably priced compared to other nearby hotels' rooms. I also really enjoy Lago Mar's outstanding 500-foot private ocean-front BEACH. The beach has soft sand, lounge chairs and umbrellas, and hardly any other people (at least outside of Spring Break). This hotel's other amenities include two outdoor swimming pools, four restaurants, two bars, room service, a spa, a resort shop, and lots of on-site activities (e.g., fitness center, basketball, tennis, volleyball, and a playground). My most recent stay was in November 2023. My husband and I had booked a standard room with a king bed and a balcony for one night for $275 plus $36 of taxes and fees. Upon our arrival, an employee promptly and courteously checked us in. Our room and the buildings were in an overall good condition, although I did see some mold on a ceiling vent in the hallway. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We did overhear a next-door neighbor talking loudly. In the evening, we ate dinner at the Acquario restaurant (please see my separate review). Next, we shopped in the gift shop, which sold sodas, juices, candies, ice-cream bars, and other snacks as well as over-the-counter medications and hygiene supplies. All of the employees made very friendly conversation. In the morning, my husband and I ate breakfast in the Soda Shop. The employees properly prepared our Belgium fruit waffle, egg-cheese-bacon panini, and two fruit smoothies. Our checkout time was 11 AM, but the employees in the lobby held our suitcases so we could eat lunch at the Promenade Bar. Our waitress was polite, and we enjoyed the taste of our burger, chicken sandwich, and two cocktails.

Yelp
Kelly is so amazing! She made the best vodka martini and cosmo that I've ever tasted: better than I can make myself.

Yelp
I visited this nice small resort/hotel for a weekend family trip. The entire staff from the front desk to the dining area were spectacular and friendly and so helpful. I had an ocean view suite. It was a one bedroom suite with two bathrooms. It was very spacious. The only negative thing I can say is the entire resort really needs a refreshing. The rooms the exterior paint are very old. But overall, it seems like a very nice place to bring your family. They didn't even have a little area near the pool that families with kids could play.
google avatar

Vassilis J.

Yelp
Old school Florida charm. Mosaics in the halls of fishe and underwater life. Seniors partying in the restaurant on the weekend. Cozy grounds, where you can be at the pool, the cabana restaurant or the playground and still see your kids. I like that as a dad who needs a bev and a footrest. Beach was nice, food pretty good. Mahi-Mahi was tasty, salads good, drinks really good. Wonderful service. Respectful, friendly patrons. Tons of greenery near the pool. Honestly has all you need for an unplugged 5 day vacation. Only thing this place needs is a legit coffee shop oh and a workout area that isn't the size of three cordoned off parking spaces. Everything else is lovely.

Yelp
Great time at Lago Mar. We got a suite so our child could sleep in a different room. The prices were reasonable. They also provided a crib free of charge. The rooms are dated design wise but are well kept. House keeping came in everyday and did a nice job. All the staff were very friendly. We stayed by the main pool because of our son. The adult pool is significantly smaller but had wait staff taking orders as compared to the main pool. The adult pool also had several cabanas. I really liked the hammock area and playground for the kids. It's nice this hotel is on the beach but it's a little bit of a walk to get close to the shore. Food and drinks were good!

Yelp
This is our second visit to Lago Mar so obviously we like it. We love the location and the quietness/ privacy it offers. It's in the middle of a residential neighborhood. LM has it's own private beach and 2 beautiful pools. There are lots of seating areas for lounging and relaxing. Their staff is very attentive and gracious, no complaints there. Our waiter, Dany, at their Aquario Restaurant was excellent as well as the food that evening. You can stay on the resort (has all you need) if all you want to do is relax and not have the hustle & bustle of the Las Olas vibe. It's great for adults or families- very kid friendly. My only minus comment- the resort is clean but dated . There are areas and furniture that need to be updated or replaced. Lago Mar remains a nice spot to enjoy in the Ft. Lauderdale area.

Stacey F.

Yelp
The pool was beautiful and well maintained. My room was very nice and I slept great. However the staff might need to work on making eye contact with the guests and speak a little bit louder so they could be heard.Thank you

Yelp
Nothing not to like here. This hotel has a lot of south Florida charm without being a large chain resort. Location is great--- 10 minutes from FLL airport. The room I had was a very nice suite with a great view of the ocean as well as the bay. I was there for a conference and got to see the larger conference areas besides the outdoor pool and beach areas. I opted out of service for my room, but had plenty of towels and amenities. The bed was very comfortable as well as the pillows leading to great sleep. I looked at the fitness center, but didn't use. It wasn't "resort spectacular"----just a few treadmills, ellipticals and about 4-5 machines as well as free weights. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. They have an onsite restaurant and bar as well as the pool bar. Food was very good. Service excellent.

Yelp
My daughter and I stayed for the 2nd time this last November 2024, before a cruise. When making the booking for their cheapest room, I had made a request for something special for my daughter who had just graduated college. When we checked in, we were pleasantly surprised to find out we had got upgraded to a suite, as a graduation gift. What a wonderful gesture. The suite was large, clean, with beautiful views. The whole resort was wonderful and clean. Everyone we encountered was friendly and approachable. We would 100% recommend this resort

Yelp
This resort is fabulous and well-known internationally, only steps from the private beach. I found the service to be friendly, impeccable, and detail-oriented. It's still privately owned and operated by the Banks family. Many of the employees have worked there for years. I must give kudos to Nicole who took care of our every need as we lounged by the adult pool. She went above and beyond the call of duty! It's extremely clean and elegantly decorated. Stroll the grounds and take in the lush landscaping. You'll probably see an iguana or two, but no worries as they are harmless. Our room was large with a great balcony overlooking the serpentine section of one of the pools. You can catch live music in the evenings too. I hope to return someday!

Yelp
We stayed here in 2012 with a 1.5 year old, as it was convenient from airport, private beach, all amenities. We decided to come back in 2023 with an 11 and 9 year old. Loved it just the same. Family friendly, lots to do, yet a quiet beach with endless room. Pool is nice. Rooms are great for family - king bedroom, 2 twins in living room, kitchenette. We like to grocery shop and have breakfast and lunch in our room to maximize beach and pool time.

Yelp
Staff was nice and attentive. Dany & Chuck provided great customer service! Always enjoy my stay here. Will be back again soon!

Yelp
What a beautiful resort this is in Fort Lauderdale and only 10 minutes from FLL Airport. It's not cheap - $365 per night but it's quaint (5 floors), has a stunning pool and a smaller adult only pool. There's also a private beach but they charge $32 for the day to use the chaise and cabana. The water was a little rough (red flag) so we didn't go in the ocean. The pool, bar, and restaurants are very nice and everyone is so friendly, courteous and helpful. Our room had a mini fridge, Keurig coffee maker, microwave, dishes, and sink. Our king size bed was super comfy and I loved the balcony overlooking the pool. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Old school feels...a perfect place to stay for ultimate relaxation!!! We only were in town for one night but the place was pristine, food was awesome...service great. Everything was on point. Would definitely stay here again. The beach is where it's at...tikis and orchids all over, sand was perfect and so many places to lounge and relax!

Yelp
Let me tell you, it's hard to not give this place a 5. The wallpaper is beautiful, it's clean, not peeling, it's nice. The edges in the bathrooms are clean and not any mold. Like you would expect, but don't often get- even at Hilton. The hallways and elevators are beautiful and wooden, and elegant. Nothing is over done or underdone. My only thing, is the room smelled of cigarettes so strongly, that I'm sure my clothes will smell too. The pool is spacious, there's live music, and the restaurants are great. I would expect it to be so much more money to eat, but it was moderate. The breakfast buffet makes your pancakes and waffle to order, eggs any way-made to order. Potatoes, bacon, grits, oatmeal, fresh fruit, it was great.

Yelp
Amazing trip! The resort is beautiful with direct access to the beach. We went the second week in December and it was not very busy at all. We had no trouble finding pool chairs or tables for food! The staff are incredible and so friendly!! Tammie served us out at the beachside lunch spot and she was so nice. Her service was great! For breakfast, we had Ramon (I think that was his name!) and he was incredible!! He was so accommodating for our daughter. The team behind the grill at breakfast were also amazing. Very dedicated folks! The decor is very traditional and almost vintage. It is still in impeccable shape, so it does not seem "dated" at all. It is so classy and beautiful. I felt like I was transported into the 60s but in a beautiful way! It also smells incredible! Loved to see the resort family history on the walls and the beautiful holiday decor. Thank you for having us! We will be back!!

Yelp
We came here for our dream vacation and the resort did not disappoint. The resort itself is beautiful to say the least and has every possible amenity to be desired. Given the pandemic, even though it was busy, the resort never once felt crowded and it was easy to feel like you were social distancing, even in the pool, thanks to the shape of the pool. The resort has plenty of games, hammocks, restaurants (with good food), a spa, a soda/diner shop, pool bar, you name it, it's there, including car rental with a local company! Additionally, the resort is located directly on the beach with a private beach. They have umbrellas or cabanas for rent and worth every penny- very reasonable. The part that really escalated to 5 stars, was really the service. The resort is short staffed, however, they have dedicated and great employees that have focused on customer service. We only had one person (waiter) that gave poor service. Other than that, everyone was extremely friendly and willing to make you feel welcome and help in anyway. A few notable employees are Jaime, Jane (Spa), and Nicole (cocktail waitress). Make sure to tip well and they will treat you even better. Due to the shortage- a little tip- skip daily room service- and tip your housekeepers. They do soo much and are typically overlooked employees. We stayed in a 2 bedroom with a kitchenette. I HIGHLY recommend spending the extra for the ocean view. Get groceries from the nearby store, and you will be set, especially if you have kids. Our room did need a little touch up (TLC), but it was very clean, and up to date with a beach/Miami like theme. We LOVED every minute and were sad to leave. There was a lot of seaweed this trip. I've heard this is not always the case. The resort was working hard to deal with the situation. I was so impressed with everyone and the lengths they were going to to help everyone have a great stay! Thanks!

Yelp
What a fantastic visit we had to Lago Mar! In town for a mothers/daughters trip, and everyone we encountered at the resort was lovely. Special shout out to Jim and Evan in the dining room for taking such good care of us and accommodating the dietary restrictions of our party (celiac). They really went the extra mile to make this trip a memorable experience. Highly recommend Lago Mar & hope to be back!

Yelp
Definitely 5 stars if you are traveling with small kids/ a family. I'd say 4-4.5 otherwise. I was was resigned to the fact it would not be possible to be relaxed on a vacation with toddler but boy was I wrong. Pros: less than 15 min drive to the airport, Whole Foods 10 min drive, food was actually pretty good/ consistent, staff/ service was top notch and I liked the overall small feel. Our room was right off the pool and i wasn't really bothered by the noise. The main pool is the kiddie pool and it's big enough that everyone can spread out and have a nice time. Most of the kids are smaller and supervised so it never get wild. Also the waitstaff seem totally swamped but they do a fantastic job and have a great attitude. We didn't get to the beach much due to weather being poor. Cons: iguanas everywhere, dated rooms (but does not really matter since you are outside most of the day) and not much in walking distance. If you have a small kid I recommend getting a room on bottom floor so you don't have to be bothered with the elevator.

Yelp
This place was absolutely amazing. First class all the way. Professional and friendly staff. The interior and exterior of the hotel is beautiful. Ornate decorations and building style. Our room was immaculate and overlooked the many pools. We could barely see the ocean which was a bummer but we spent most of our time outside of our room anyway. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and the balcony was a nice touch, The pools were perfect temperature and there were plenty of chairs next to the pool. The drinks were a little on the weak side but the food was decent and portions were ok for the price. Gorgeous grounds, beautiful glowing lights over the playground and hammocks for kids to play in. The beach was gorgeous with chairs to sit in. I felt safe the entire time I was there. Great location - easy drive to restaurants. We would absolutely stay here again.

Yelp
Finally pulled the trigger and joined as a member.. Cleo and the membership team were most accommodating, helping guide us through the membership process and we couldn't be happier as locals/going to make this our go-to weekend spot. Food is great, staff is friendly and attentive , live music is chill and love being able to walk up the beach after it all

Yelp
There were some good things at this hotel and some very bad things. The good: * The staff was great at getting the pullout bed setup for us and providing a crib for our 19 month old. * The room, the hotel, and the grounds were nice. The rooms were updated and "mostly clean" (see below). * The beach is large and beautiful. The bad: * I sliced my foot on a rusty fishing hook embedded in the carpet in the room leaving a 1" bleeding cut. When I presented this information to the front desk, I got a meager apology, a blame game on the cleaning staff, and nothing else. At the very least I expected a discount on our stay or a complete comp. I'm not litigious, but I'm sure hotels have been sued for less. * The food is terrible and overpriced. Seriously, just don't do it. The burgers were some sort of pressed meat resembling hockey pucks with little flavor. The $40 fish was drenched in butter, heavy, and disappointing. The "fresh" vegetables were brown where they were cut. It really looked like these were frozen meals heated up in a microwave. * The cocktails were not good. Stick to bottled beer. * Location - this place is a bit removed from restaurants and other bars, so you'll need to do a little work to go find better food.

Yelp
Loved this resort! I'm a local who lives in Fort Lauderdale area, my mom and niece was in town and we wanted to stay on the beach for my sons birthday. This resort was great for kids AND adults! The rooms were spacious we got a 1 bedroom suite it had 2 full sized beds and a little kitchenette and a large living room we were able to fit a Queen blow up mattress in it. There's also a bed in the couch. Our room overlooked the pool so when we took breaks from the sun we could still look down and see the family. Wasn't too crowded the pool was huge and warm. For the kids there's a playground, mini golf, giant chess, tennis, shuffleboard, ping pong, even a little soda shop! We woke up in the morning and walked out to the beach to see the sunrise. There was live music playing sometimes. There was a bar and good food for the adults. It was really relaxing and just a great vibe overall. The hotel is close to great restaurants like Boatyard and we took the kids to jaxsons ice cream which was only 15 mins away. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because 1. My mom is deathly afraid of iguanas and there were iguanas literally poolside and she was freaking out and 2. Only 1 car is allowed to park. Was really difficult when my boyfriend needed to work the next morning and he couldn't bring a car, he ended up sleeping at home on the Friday night because he had to work next morning and they wouldn't let him bring the car. We also had to have my aunt park at a restaurant on 17th street and had to leave to come pick her up to sit by the pool with us because only 1 car allowed. To leave she had to Uber back to her car. I understand parking may be limited, but found it to be a little frustrating.

Yelp
This place was amazing for our fourth wedding anniversary and my birthday. It's beautiful and the service is top notch. I had the 1 bedroom suite overlooking the pool and golf course in room 376. It's the perfect location where I could see the beach pool and golf from one room. Plenty of towels, kcups for coffee, table and chairs for four, lounge chair on patio AND 2 dining room chairs with a table out there. Bed was so comfy and the white blankets so fresh. Slept like a baby. Four foot pool is perfect for families and even though we were as a couple, I love the life that kids add to an environment. Perfect mix of happy to see them playing and happier I'm not having to referee the meltdowns when it's time to get out of the pool ;) I did my time, mine are grown now! Will be back for next special occasion. I lived in the south for 40 years and moved to DC for the last 4. I will say that some of the guests did give us the side eye as if we didn't belong. BUT there were even more guests that looked just like them who went out of their way to be friendly taking our pics and chatting. It's old Florida in every way AND THATS A GOOD THING.

Yelp
I absolutely loved the outside of this resort The pool was very large. A ton of seating near the bar great service! Absolutely loved the food here and drinks. I didn't like all the iguanas every where Someone came to play live music They had TVs at the bar for the game The beach was private just for us. That was a plus. The kids had a play ground plus little hammocks everywhere very relaxing. Now the inside of this resort is SUPER out dated. The rooms were old and little dirty ehhhh but luckily we just stayed outside all day lol unless we were ready to Shower and go to bed. I would come again even if it's outdated. Great place for family's.

Yelp
Lago Mar was very good to us. The staff from the caretakers to reception/concierge is extremely helpful and very knowledgeable of the area. We didn't eat at the restaurant but the menu seemed nice. If we are ever in Ft. Lauderdale again I know where we will be staying. Great value!!!!

Yelp
Lago Mar is a wonderful, peaceful, updated, low-key Old Florida-style resort. And we loved it. The buildings and rooms are beautiful, updated and very clean. The pool is gorgeous, with lots of tall palm trees and chairs all around. The beach is incredible - one of the biggest sand beaches I've ever seen. The on-site restaurants were good, and prices were fair for being inside a resort. And the tennis coach, Carlos Gomez-Diaz, was truly outstanding. He helped our 11 year old daughter's game immensely, and helped both of our games. Carlos is a GREAT tennis coach. If you're looking for a crazy loud, super exciting resort that's pumping out loud thumping music at the pool, this isn't your place. But if you want a really nice, relaxing stay with your family where you can actually find a chair at the pool and space on the beach, Lago Mar is absolutely wonderful.

Yelp
Very clean room on the 5th floor! We were upgraded to a larger room, which is huge! The room is clean with a view of the family pool. Large balcony! Although it was a little rainy and stormy today, we were able to get down to the beach and sit by the ocean. Breakfast this morning was good, a little on the pricey side but good. Everyone we have interacted with have been super friendly! We would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Definitely Lago (Grand)Mar. Very family friendly location with many multi-generational families visiting. Most of the staff were super friendly (although I found the maids a bit too protective of "their" hotel). Easy access here to rest of Ft Lauderdale and the greater South Miami area and easy parking out front. Two pools, although they tend to be full of debris in the morning from the trees, bugs and every present lizards. On the downside, there's essentially nothing vegan here in the food offerings - I didn't risk trying the $17(!) breakfast buffet, and certainly the dining menu and soda shop had next to nothing. Fortunately there's multiple vegan restaurants a short distance away (and a Whole Foods), so it wasn't a big deal. The TV system, as with so many hotels, has an unbelievably slow interface - I would have been embarrassed to have come up with that. Fortunately was able to hook up our own streaming box to the TV.

Yelp
Another amazing, relaxing time at our favorite place in the world! Thanks to Kelli, Nicole & Chuck for your excellent service and Fior in reservations and last but not least the team in the dining room makes every visit special!

Yelp
BEST FUXKING FRIES I HAVE EVER HAD. Unbiased proper review with very hard and strong drinks.

Yelp
Stayed at this beautiful resort with my 23 person family ranging from toddlers to 90th birthday celebration. It's a hidden gem on the wide beautiful beach with parking, multi tennis and pickle ball courts included. They have a playground and hammocks on the beach, outdoor life size chess set, shuffleboard, and more. Four restaurants with the nicest and most patient wait staff. Executive suites are great. Wonderful family staycation, since we are south Florida natives.

Yelp
For $400 a night, I expected something more lavish. There were things in the room that could be improved. Rust. Chipped paint. Peeling caulk. The pillows were like tictacs. The beach, outdoor amenities were wonderful. I was just very disappointed with the room. Did not feel it was worth even $200 a night. Would not stay again. Marriott just up the street would be my choice!

Yelp
I have to say that there are a couple of decent things about this resort. The negatives far outweigh the positives. We'll start with the pros: 1-If you have small children I would say up to the 7th grade or so there is a lot to do providing that the weather is nice. Mine are older. 2-The lunch menu was good in the restaurant. The lobster salad was delicious. That does it for the pros. The cons: I have to agree with whoever said that the front desk manager is less than genuine or kind. They used a different word but he absolutely could care half less. When I booked the two bedroom suite on the first floor with an early check-in the person on the phone told me that they had written both of those requests down and that the first floor two bedroom suite which was understandably expensive should absolutely be fine and they would do their absolute best with an early check-in. When I went to check in at 12:30, the Manager said they were full and he would do his best. They called our room right at 3:40 p.m. We were the last room called. It honestly felt spiteful. They totally forgot our first floor request, The manager actually said, I didn't see that, again could have cared half less and put us on the third floor. It was my son's birthday. We had a large party coming for dinner in their restaurant, Acquario. The food in the restaurant was the worst food that I have ever tasted for even half the money spent. The vegetables were boiled, The steak tasted like something you would get at Denny's. The shrimp in our dish was exactly the same shrimp as Publix. Our waiter who was Romanian, don't remember his name, was so irritated at any request and so flustered. It was so tense. There were 11 of us and only one person said that their food was decent, but not good.my oldest son got so sick he was up the entire night. For the cost of the bill we could have gone to any high-end restaurant and had a great meal. No such luck. The property is so run down and dated. There was a broken lounge chair at the pool that you could tell had been sitting there forever. Our two bedroom oceanfront suite smelled musty. Everything was so outdated. One of the faucets didn't even turn. The sheets smelled like old musty sheets and the pillows were horrible. My husband got up at 1:00 in the morning and drove home so that he could sleep and I stayed with the kids. Since we were not able to enjoy the resort the day before I called that morning and asked for a late checkout. Same manager. He said nope, we are full and we can't offer you a late check out at all. I thought to myself, after all of this you wouldn't just as a peace offering, we are so booked but we want you to enjoy yourself for another hour... Nope. So we packed up our bags and left. We will never return. When we got home and put all of our bags in the house a cockroach came running out. That was it. Done and done.

Yelp
Lago Mar is OLD SCHOOL and makes me long for the simpler days of yesteryear! This is the type of resort that makes you think of Dirty Dancing. Apparently, way back when, it was a favorite of Sinatra's. It wouldn't surprise me a bit. The hotel itself is large. The rooms are spacious and well appointed (and clean!) The resort has two large pools (one is for grown ups only) and it has it's own private stretch of awesome beach. You will find both indoor and outdoor bars. We were there for meetings and it was great for that. I highly recommend Lago Mar if you are hosting a business meeting on the smaller side. We had dinner there the first night and it was good if not spectacular. Everyone I met at the resort was warm and great to interact with. The only issue I had with Lago Mar is that, in spite of a full renovation in the last decade, it still feels its age. It's not bad I just think there is a way to stay old school and make things a bit more modern all at the same time. Oh, and one important thing to note is that the resort doesn't take any form of payment, other than room charge. Don't plan on spending any cash here, they don't accept it. Lago Mar is great. In fact, I am considering taking my family here this winter. Cheers to the whole Lago Mar team!

Yelp
The staff here was so nice and attentive, very friendly -great! The beach and the pool are just a few steps away from the hotel room door and nothing beats having a coffee while sitting on a balcony overlooking both. They resolved our issue of checking into a room with bugs and were accommodating to move us to a new room.

Yelp
The resort is awesome - the activities on at are wonderful. Our trip was made complete by Michael.

Yelp
For the price, the rooms should be updated. It looks like there have been 0 attempts to update anything in the past 25+ years. The pool is nice, but poorly maintained. There is a ton of sand and debris in the pool every morning. This is not surprising since they never hose down the pool deck. This is especially disgusting since iguanas use the pool deck as their bathroom all day. Sweeping up iguana excrement every few hours is not enough. The deck also needs to be hosed down to get rid of the sand and other debris. The location is good, but there are not many decent restaurants in the area. I appreciated the laid back attitude of the resort. It can be really crowded on weekends with the local members who use the pool. Bins to discard towels in the pool area would be helpful because maybe people would actually remove their towels when they leave. There is no monitoring of the pool area, so it can be difficult to locate chairs that are not in use.
