I've actually never visited either of the Lagomarcino's locations in person, but instead discovered them when they were mentioned in a newspaper advice column a few years back, where the author was listing some of her favorite things, Lagomarcino's candies being one of them. With a pretty wicked sweet tooth myself, I couldn't wait to check these guys out, and ended up placing the first of many online orders with them over these past few years. In fact, I received my most recent order last week, just in time for holiday indulging.
Having now tried a wide range of their candies and chocolates, I can honestly say that's there NOTHING of theirs that I haven't loved, but special favorites in no particular order are their super-rich lemon bark, jars of homemade hot fudge sauce, a wide variety of chocolate-covered bites (cherries, strawberries, sea salt caramel, bourbon caramel, etc.), and cherry sour balls (I think I'm actually addicted to these, lolz). And a special mention goes to their chocolate-covered sponge candy, which is one of their signature items and is pretty much out of this world. Like I said, I've covered a LOT of ground with Lagomarcino's, sampling their various offerings...
Being a California boy, See's Candies is my go-to sweets supplier, but I have to say that Lagomarcino's runs a VERY close second, and might even take the top spot if they had a location here in Los Angeles. Since I know that's highly unlikely to happen, I guess I'll just have to make a trip to Illinois or Iowa one of these days and check out their shop(s) in person. That way, I can also finally sample their old-school soda fountain, deli and homemade ice creams. Actually, come to think of it, it's probably better that I don't have a Lagomarcino's nearby, since I would be waaay too tempted to eat myself into sugary, chocolatey oblivion there -- but what a way to go!
BTW, they take great care in packing their candy for shipping. I've ordered from them in both summer and winter, and my orders always come through in perfect (and tasty) condition. Thanks, and keep up the great work, Lagomarcino's!
