Our stay at the Laguna Lodge was fantastic. The room was clean and we had everything we needed. The best thing of the hotel is the whole hotel area which includes a pool, restaurant, bar, direct enter to beach and many exotic animals. It was so amazing to have that much interesting animals just in front of your door. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for three nights in November 2024. Reading some of the more negative reviews on here, it's possible some people were disappointed because this is not a "luxury" accomodation, but I think this is clear from the website. You stay in a remote location (part of the journey involves a boat ride that can take around an hour depending on water level) in order to be very close to the amazing ecosystem in Tortugero. |The room was clean and comfortable and had a good bathroom but it is quite basic, with no TV etc (but why would you need that when you have so much else to do!). There is no air con but there is a fan which kept the room cool enough for us. The wifi doesn't reach to the room but is fast in the communal areas. There is not much reception elsewhere.|The food was nice and was generally local dishes which we enjoyed; as vegetarians we didn't always have as much choice but I think this is more a reflection on the cuisine of Costa Rica and was not significantly different from other places we stayed and ate.|However the reason we come is for the wildlife which is incredible! Sloths, monkeys, armadillos, frogs, hummingbirds, herons and waders, raptors, macaws... The list goes on. There are lots of opportunities to see these on the various boat tours and walking tours organized by the lodge. There was a kayaking opportunity but we didn't do that so can't comment. |We had a fantastic local guide (Miguel) who was extremely knowledgeable, especially about the bird life, friendly and had excellent, very clear English.|So remember your binoculars and raincoat, and remember you are going to get close to nature and enjoy lying in a comfortable bed listening to the nocturnal sounds of the forest.

Lovely accommodation. Rooms are tastefully decorated. Huge beds, nice bathrooms, lovely terrace with rocking chairs. Can hear your neighbours though. Restaurant is buffet style, but good food and choices. Bar is nice. Reasonable prices. On waters edge. Grounds lovely, views fabulous, great location.

Somewhat disappointed with this lodge. I understand we didn't see it at its best as there had been lots of rain and flooding. The dining room was flooded, as were many of the paths. At one point tables and chairs were brought into the reception area and we ate there, but this isn't really why we weren't too impressed. As other reviewers have said, the rooms are very, very basic. There is no air con, although there is a ceiling fan, which gives some relief but not much. No fridge or hair dryer. Very old, very plain furniture, so the room had little character. The setting of the lodge is stunning, and the pool is lovely. although we didn't get a chance to use it. The staff in the bar always seemed to be doing something else when we wanted a drink, and twice we went to reception, there was no one to be seen. The food was OK, nothing special but plenty of it. My biggest complaint was the fresh fruit at breakfast, which is delicious in Costa Rica, but it wasn't covered, and flies were swarming all over it. We had a wonderful time in Tortuguera despite the weather but wished we had stayed somewhere else.

The place was nice. I liked the beach and the pools. Right next to one of the pools, there's a small nature walk which has frogs. One night, we saw that the frogs moved from the nature walk to the pool! That was a funny experience I got to experience with my family. Food was usually good, like, for example, the pasta. Last day we were there, we saw small bugs come out from the napkin... That was gross, but it's a place in nature, so I guess something like that should be expected.

This was an amazing weekend in Tortuguero. I was traveling by myself and I wanted to see as much as possible in the area, including wildlife, cultural tours, and nature. |The lodge was great! I had a comfortable bed in a clean room. The simple wood interiors and furniture is all in the Caribbean style of the region. The hotel grounds were beautiful, from the Gaudi-inspired architecture of the reception area to the Caribbean style of the restaurant and the guest rooms I enjoyed listening to the ocean and the birds on the terrace. ||The food was delicious, varied, and plentiful. Every meal was a hearty buffet with different choices all the time. We had Caribbean style rice-and-beans with coconut and chicken, pasta, multiple salad choices, fresh fruit, bread, plantains, handmade tortillas with picadillo, fresh fruit juices and hot coffee. ||The tours included in the hotel package were exceptional. Our guide, Mario, was fantastic. He provided an immense amount of information in his stories and personal anecdotes. He was an expert at spotting wildlife. I saw literally every type of animal on this trip: birds, snakes, river turtles, lizards, 3 species of monkeys, sloths, caiman, frogs, spiders, sting rays, fish, bats, insects…. The visit to Tortuguero Village was fun. I always make sure to support shop owners so I had a great flat white at Thirema Cafe. ||I signed up for the Awakening Tour. It is not part of the package and I paid extra, $43, to take it. This is a canal tour that starts at 5:30 am. I’m an early riser so it was perfect for me. The canals were beautiful at this time of day. We saw lots of wildlife and beautiful skies. Keep in mind that this tour starts at 5:30 (you meet in the restaurant at 5:15 for coffee and a snack before you start) You return in time for breakfast and then you take the canal tour that is included in the package. For some, it may seem repetitive, but I was there to see as much as possible and I definitely did! The canals were beautiful as the sun came up!||All of the staff, from the boat captains to the guides, from reception to the dining room, were friendly and attentive.||I hope to return sometime during turtle season so I can see these animals that I learned so much about this time around.

Fabulous location, rooms adequate but a little on the small side. The whole site is teeming with wildlife and river trips from the hotel are excellent. Very good food.

An incredible place only accessible by river boat, with the lagoon on one side and the Caribbean on the other. The hotel was idyllic, with trees, wildlife and nesting turtles on the beach. The pool was warm, the garden well kept, and the food was good. Our room was a bit spartan, but we didn't spend much time there so it didn't matter.|A great place to set off on a river and canal safari.
