Our family had 8 people for a group lesson with Ricky & Jason - and they all had an amazing time and caught some waves. The guys were super helpful with the kiddos and adults - giving specific instruction to everyone in the water so they could enjoy their time. They were super patient, chill and handled the different personalities of each participant like the pros that they are. If we had more time on the island, several of our crew had so much fun that they would have gone back for another lesson. Thanks for a great time!

Took our entire family here for surf lessons. We had never surfed before. Super patient and energetic. Great with kids and every single person in group surfed first lesson. Pictures professional and cost extra but were amazing (attached). Could be more organized/assertive getting everyone assembled and to the beach. Overall great group and would repeat if we came back!

My teenage sons took a surf lesson with Eddie at Lahaina Surf Shack and had the best experience. Eddie was patient and encouraging. I wasn't sure how long it would take them to learn and be able to stand up, but within the two-hour lesson, both boys were successfully on their feet thanks to Eddie's coaching. Eddie, thank you for showing them a great time!

Awesome Keiki surf lessons from Big Foot! My 11 year old is a bit shy but had a blast with his instructor. Highly recommend 6:30 time, we were there in April. Their location is top notch, next to Lahaina Harbor, lots of shopping and snacks for after the lesson. Instructors are gentle and patient, allowing time for confidence builder. The waves are gentle and well paced. Just a great experience all around! We will be back!

My husband and I had a spur of the moment decision to take a surfing lesson and had a BLAST. The staff were very friendly and our instructor, Jed/Jedi, was really fun, had great energy, provided good helpful feedback during the lesson, and shared some lovely knowledge about the island and its ocean. Never would have thought I'd go surfing but these folks helped me catch the bug! If you're in doubt, give it a try! The water was beautiful and not overwhelming for a first timer.

We had a memorable experience with Ricky and Patrick during our first ever surf lesson. My kids (5, 5 and 9 years old) and I all caught lots of waves right off the bat and had a really fun time. Ricky and Pat were so nice and patient and gave us a lot of feedback. We weren't sure if my 5 year olds would really enjoy it and get a lot out of the experience but they were just loving it. Thanks LSS! I would highly recommend to pay for the professional pictures. We got lots of amazing shots, they are well worth the money.

My family and I booked a lesson on our recent trip and it was unforgettable. Our instructor Ricky brought his amazing teaching style to the table and really knocked it out of the park for us. In our group we had two division one college athletes, one aspiring opera singer, and two old dudes looking to fulfill a dream. Not only did we all get up, but our feeling of safety and enjoyment of the moment was what will bring us back. The whole team at the Shack couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. If you have ever really wanted to surf, and your in Lahaina go see them and book an appointment with Ricky, you won’t regret it.

Our group of 5 had a fabulous time learning to surf with Ricky at LahAina Surf Shack. In our group there were 4 kids 9-14 and 1 adult. The lesson included getting us all geared up by the surf shack -protective booties, rash guards and boards of course. All of the safety rules were gone over and then we hit the waves. At first Ricky took us out one by one so that we could each get a feel for surfing. 3/5 of us were able to stand up on the first go with the expert guidance of our instructor. The other two got some tlc and were able to stand up and feel great about their lesson by the end of the two hours. Booking was really straightforward. I called and was able to book a lesson for the following day. Super inclusive, laidback, fun attitude at the LahAina Surf Shack.

This is an amazing crew that truly wants to share the love for surfing and the ocean with their clients. We booked three private lessons and they made certain we all came away with a fantastic experience. We also saw a seal, turtles and whales! So lucky!!

Great outfit did a couple lessons with my daughter. Instructor (Ricky) was awesome, by the Secondd lesson my 11 year old daughter was paddling g into her own waves. We had a blast. Will do again soon he. We come back.

We had the best time of our life's ! We had four of us learning how to surf for our first time . Our instructor tricky Ricky was very helpful. We all had a good time and plan to come back . Brought our two 17-year-old girls here for a surf lesson... Just wanted something for them to do. Very casual place. You can park across the street for free in the public lot, they have a couple of chairs you can sit on, and the same people own the healthy café next-door, and you can use their bathroom. They basically give them swim shoes and a rash guard shirt and you drop your belongings in one of the crates. Obviously, you can't take anything with you out on the water, so leave your valuables at home. They tell you multiple times to cover yourself with sunscreen (of course, my kid did not listen). Then they walk basically across the street and behind the school to a small beach area, where they teach them how to stand and then get them in the water. There's a guy hanging around named Frenchy who for 30 bucks will take pictures of your party surfing for 30 bucks per person. We bit, and he actually got a couple good pictures. It was worth it. They also give you quite a few decent coupons for local businesses. Our instructor's name was Eddie and he was great with the girls. We had one who was into it and one who was not, and he was totally flexible I'm accommodating both, and they both had a fun time. He happened to have his teen son with him that and that was like having a free extra instructor! I recommend this place and we will come back. I may try it myself -- I'll ask for Eddie when I do!

Great place, great instruction! Had a ton of fun learning the basics of surfing. Funny and friendly staff. You can also rent boards and paddle boards. Saw sea turtles and fish in area where they took us while I paddle boarded. Highly recommend!

Our family took our first ever surf lesson with Ricky. He was great! There was 4 of us and we all got to catch a wave about 5 times. He was incredibly patient and helpful in instruction. He did a really great job and we were all able to get up on the board on the first wave! We started off on land, learning the basics of how to paddle and get up on the board. Then, we moved into the water. Would definitely go back!

Went to a beach and saw a bunch of surfers and wanted to rent some boards. We were directed to this surf shop for rentals and I'm so glad we went. We were welcomed by a sweet lady at the register and she picked out boards for us since we had no clue what we were doing. Very friendly staff, great rentals, and made for a great experience.

Highly recommend Lahaina Surf Shack. We took our 3 boys ages 17, 10 and 10 today and they had a great time. We had Private lessons with Big Foot, Kannon and another guy who goes to school with Kannon, but I can't remember his name (maybe Sam? Sorry). They did amazing with our boys. Big Foot was very patient with our middle son who is autistic and not as athletic as our other two boys, but he did amazing. Our other 2 boys got up and were able to actually surf a lot! They also had a photographer who charged $30 per kid, which we thought was a great deal. It's hard to figure out where your kids are at sometimes, but he captured all the perfect pictures. We got 164 pictures for the 3 boys! My only recommendation for next time would be to bring binoculars, it's hard to spot the kids when they are far out there and so many people.

I had the pleasure of taking a private surf lesson with Aina this morning. It was great experience. She helped me with the technical aspects of surfing, including positioning, paddling, etc. She also is a smart and kind person. With her help, I was able to catch a wave in the first ten minutes of my lesson.

Amazing experience! Rickie was a great instructor. We all were able to get up right away then surfed the next couple hours. Highly recommend.

Had the greatest surfing lessons here with Walter!! Everyone that works here was so welcoming and friendly. 100% recommend this place to anyone and everyone that wants the best lessons. You could tell out in the water how much more personable and on top of it our instructor was compared to other places. Great energy all around. Thanks walter!! You're the best!

Fun surf session for our three girls 10 and 8 years old. We were able to grab two instructors to help our girls feel comfortable in foreign territory (they had some previous surfing experience). They had sooo much fun with Jedi and Billy. Both guys were the girls hype team and really set the tone for a great fun session. They helped them paddle in and out as not to completely exhaust themselves. These girls were able to catch at least 15 waves a piece! Worth the money. This was one of their favorite activities they did on our trip to Maui. We will be back next year!

My family and I had an amazing time with Tricky Ricky. It was the first time surfing for all of us and we ended the day all catching some waves. Ricky was very personable and great with my kids. I would recommend to anyone looking for more excitement than just sitting on the beach.

Wow! If I could give 20 stars I would. We are so glad we decided to take our surf lessons with LahAina. Our instructor Jedi was the absolute best! He gave us an amazing experience and really did a great job with me and my sister in law who is a first time surfer. Jedi is very knowledgeable about surfing, the waves, and the history of the island! Also they offer to have your experience documented with photo shoot while you surf! I highly recommend LahAina Surf Shack when your in Maui.

LOVED. Our instructor, Max was so great! We took a family lesson...He gave us awesome tips and was very helpful to 46 year old me and my hubby, and my 10 and 7 year old daughters. All the staff was super cool and welcoming. We also rented boards here... very easy as it's close to a beginner break you can walk to. The shop has great swag too.

We had the best time getting up on our boards and surfing some waves. Walter and Liam kept my little family of four catching one wave after another. My kids can't stop talking about it. A definite highlight to our trip.

07.29.2018 Hubby and Little O took a group lesson here. It was a 2-hour group lesson. They provided some water shoes for both of them since we had none. They went over the basics and a short land lesson at the shop. After that we took a short walk to pick up the boards and walk to the beach. According to Google Maps the lesson was held at Emily's Beach, next to Lahaina Harbor and behind King Kamehameha III Elementary School. The area is popular for surfing lessons and boogie boarding as it remains shallow for a few hundred yards out. Hubby and Little O were in a group lesson with two other adults who were visiting from Los Angeles. Their instructor was Makana (or was it Makena?). Anyways, he was pretty friendly and thorough with all the details from safety to falling and recovering. Little O wished she could've been out there for more than a couple hours. I think her skateboard camp this summer helped her a bit.

It is our (me and my 13 yr old son) first time surfing. Our instructor was Tricky Ricky and he rocks! He cares about safe riding and also catches details of each ride. Within two hours, we were able to balance and made some good rides. My son loved it so we scheduled another semi private lesson with Ricky tomorrow morning. And get the photos from the photographer. You can't zoom enough with your iPhone. It is worth the money for a good memory in Maui for a long time.

Just got back from a really nice few days in Maui. We had scheduled a semi-private lesson at Lahaina Surf Shack on our last day and were booked with Ricky. We had such a great time with him and appreciated all of his insights & tips. Both of us had surfed before, but it had been a long time. He helped us with refreshers on water safety, technique and got us in the water. Throughout the lesson he was coaching us up and it made for a really great morning! Hope to be back again and to snag some time with Ricky!

Tricky Ricky was absolutely wonderful with my two boys (ages 12 & 9) learning to surf for the first time. He was patient with them and they caught lots of waves with him! Love that he was so friendly and gave them a lesson on the beach before they hit the water. Also the surf shack lent us 2 beach chairs to sit on to watch the beach lesson and where to go to get a closer view. We also paid for Steven to take pictures and he got some great action shots. Overall a wonderful experience and I'm so glad the hotel recommended we take our surf lessons from them!

Ricky was our instructor for a small group lesson, and we had an awesome experience. Three first time surfers all caught waves and cannot wait to do it again! His land lesson was concise and totally on point, and in the water he expertly set us up for each wave and clearly communicated what we needed to work on while keeping it 100% positive. Surf instructor in training, Scout, was also super helpful and super friendly! My ribs and arms are sore but I can't wait for my next ride. LahAina Surf Shack rocks!! Mahalo

Went in with my son to rent surfboards. The guy behind the desk sold us on having a private lesson with Jed or Jedi as he known. First bad sign is when Jedi shows up at 12:15 for a 12:00pm lesson. 2nd bad sign was when he told my son to start paddling out and he had no idea where to go. Jedi and I followed. Jedi gave us hardly any direction or help. Is the instructor supposed to be surfing the entire time also? He caught more waves than both my son and I combined. He was super unprofessional and for $225 I wish we had just rented the boards like we wanted to do in the first place. He taught us nothing about surfing we did not already know and the only advice he gave us was to not stand on the coral reef. He did know where to wash off the boards after we were done, on someone dock, but besides that not worth the money.

I loved this shop, and all the goodies inside! I loved the stickers, bathing suits, hats, and surf boards too. I got the private lesson and it went so smoothly, my instructor read my ability to surf very quickly and decided from there what waves we would do, I also get comfortable when asking for breaks or holding myself from too challenging of a wave. I am a beginner but finished feeling so much more confident in my ability.

First time surfing for my 11 year old son. Great experience. Patrick is very knowledgeable about surfing and the ocean. He is great with adults and kids. Also recommend the photo package. Pics are fantastic!

We had a great experience here. The kids had a spectacular time and fell in love with surfing. Our instructor was great with kiddos and went above and beyond to make sure everyone was having fun. It's an easy stroll from Lahaina Shores and many restaurants. If the time zones work, choose the early time! The water was largely empty when we went out around 7. By 9 am, it was beyond crowded.

Showed up on a rainy day to start scheming up some surf plans. Met Ricky who was knowledgeable and friendly. We got the full run down on private and semi-private lessons for our little ones. Said we would all think on it and come back when we've decided. There was no pressure about anything, it was nice. Went back the next (sunny) day to rent boards on the CHEAP for a few hours. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Booked a private 1-on-1 class with Billy and he was amazing. As a first time surfer, he taught me the basics and was really encouraging and made sure I was comfortable on the board then took me in the water. Super easy going and chill instructor. Encouraged me to get to the standing position, and even if I couldn't, he gave positive feedback on how I was at least doing other moves!! 10/10 highly recommended you book here if you wanna learn how to surf or get some coaching on it !!

Highly recommend! It was the first time surfing for our family of four. Each of us was able to get up and catch a few waves. Our instructor Connor was super patient and a great instructor. We would love to come back again! Also, the photos on the beach are well worth the extra $25/pp.

On our recent trip to Maui we decided that it would be awesome for our girls ( 8 and 11 yrs) to try out surfing, I guess there's hardly any better place in the world for it :)! We booked a lesson with Ricky and have nothing but good things to say about him. He is a fun, patient and attentive instructor and our girls had a blast catching some waves with his help! Best surf lessons in Maui! They were patient and thorough with everyone! Would recommend this group to everyone that comes to Maui! Can't wait to come back!

From the warm and friendly welcome by Trinity, to the SUP lesson with Max and Leo, we had an amazing experience for our group of 6. The two instructors, Max and Leo took the extra time to walk us through the most important things to remember before heading out to the water. They encouraged the kids to get comfortable and find their confidence on the boards. And of course, we had an amazing time! The kids saw fish and turtles! As we waited to get set-up, many walk-ins were accomodated to rentals, and repeat customers returned...it definitely had the exact vibe we were looking for in Maui. Post SUP we had fantastic pizza at Prison Pizza next door - will definitely come back again!

LahAina surf shack is a great place to learn how to surf! My instructor, Walter, was a great teacher and I went from knowing nothing to getting up on the board and some decent waves. I would definitely recommend, and if you go, ask for Walter!

I'm so disappointed with our experience here, and a little shocked to be honest. We booked a semi private lesson and unfortunately got Talbot as the instructor. He was rude and was swearing to our kids, apparently dropping the F bomb. They actually wanted to end the lesson early because of the way he was talking to them. Such a bummer! We went elsewhere for private lessons last year and would definitely return there over this place in a heartbeat.

I'm so glad our hotel concierge recommended Lahaina Surf Shack. We got a same-day booking. Eddie was fantastic with my 8-year-old (a first-time surfer) and 11-year-old (who has some surf experience). He was patient, informative, and direct. We had a great sense of each kids' strengths and needs. My kids say he is a "cool and chill guy." Ruby in the office was great too. Parents, warn your kids that they will need to put in the work to have a great session (including carrying their own boards from the store through a park to the ocean and back). Thank you, Eddie for all your guidance! We hope to be back some day!

Had a great time surfing! My 2 kids had a lesson from Pat and both were surfing within the first 30 min. They had a blast. Pat was patient and fun. The team at the shop were all friendly and informative. "Frenchie" the photographer snapped this picture of my daughter. Would def recommend

RICKY is AWESOME!!! Amazing instructor all about a great time, teaching us and safety. We've never been surfing and we caught every wave. He's one of the most experienced instructors out there. He'll help you paddle out and super encouraging! Mahalo Sid & Denise

They were awesome at encouraging any children that were a bit nervous. Ryder was awesome! He was kind, efficient in teaching for land and helpful in the water. My daughter did great w him as a teacher and got up all but once w success. Fabulous time. Photos w the photographer were much better than any I could take but there were times he missed a good ride that I had wished he caught on film.

Ask for Robbie. He's the best instructor. He's from Alaska and helped my three kids learn to surf and even me- their old dad. He helped teach us the basics, how to be safe and told us a lot of fun stories about his own surfing career and we swapped stories about ice hockey. Ask him about the polar bear in Alaska that chased after him. We can't wait to go back to surf with him again. If you have time afterwards- go to Prisons pizza next door. The owner used to be in Chicago and they have amazing pizza.

Lahaina surf was great! Easy to book and great folks. First time lessons and Patrick was fantastic. He gave lessons before we hit the water. He wanted you to relax. If you are nervous, you might over react and fall in. The team is great, Patrick was nice and made you feel safe. We had photos with Frenchy who took some nice photos.

Took a private lesson with Ricky today. He was great! A really chill dude and made me feel really comfortable out there. It was a blast, highly recommend!

Very easy registration process. Jason was our guide and he was super good with our group. He focused on safety, how to surf around others, and really made sure we had a good experience. Highly recommended.

The Staff and well as the instructors are amazing. Friendly and patient. Really recommend this place for any age group. My family and I had a group from 9-44 years old and they did awesome. Explained every step in detail as well as made us all feel comfortable and confident even before heading to the water. Would definitely come back to them next time!

We had Tricky Ricky for a semi private lesson with my husband for three days. It was an incredible experience. Ricky is extremely knowledgeable and an excellent teacher. My husband and I both improved our surfing dramatically. I felt very safe and protected with him more so than with other instructors I had in Maui. We had an awesome time and wouldn't go anywhere else!

What a phenomenal afternoon! The surf shack is so professional, organized and helpful - we had the best time! Eddie was our instructor and was fabulous - super nice and motivating. Safety first always, and extremely hard working. We have 2 kids and he was so terrific with them. They teach first on the beach and then right into the water - we all got up! We will remember Eddie forever! Trinity in the shack helped us get going and was great - very friendly and helpful. Couldn't have had a better experience.

My 6 year old took a private lesson with Sean and he said it was his favorite thing in Hawaii. He was little nervous at first but Sean was super friendly and easy going, and did an awesome job making my little guy feel at ease. I could tell after the first few mins he was already comfortable with Sean and getting excited to go surfing. After checking in, we walked down to the beach where they went over the basics, and off they went to catch some waves. There was a lot of people in the water but they paddled out a ways and after a few tries, he was standing up by himself and by the end of the lesson, he was catching waves by himself. Watching from the shore Sean was always by my little guys side My little guy had such a great experience and he was already asking if we can come back to Hawaii and surf with Sean again. Thank you Sean and the rest of the guys at the surf shack for giving my little guy such a memorable experience.
