Lake 69

Took a colectivo from Huaraz to Yungay 8 soles, and another colectivo from Yungay to Cebolla Pampa the hike entrance 30 soles. And another 30 soles for the Park fee. The way up is not too hard but when you get up to 4000m you're starting to feel it and it's a bit hard. But worth it. I did the hike in January, a bit cloudy but not raining and I got amazing views.

The ascent takes on average 2.5-3 hours. It’s a fairly simple hike, not too steep but requires a decent level of fitness. It’s 7 km each way, and it’s a point to point route so no chance of getting lost. The views are absolutely breathtaking along the way, and there is a smaller body of water called Consolation lake for those who cannot reach Lagoon 69 within the time limit given. Ideally time to acclimate before the hike is recommended as it can be difficult otherwise. Luckily the day we hiked was quiet of crowds but there was many a wild bull roaming but they are completely placid. Small restaurant selling drinks and snacks and toilets for 1 sol at the beginning of the trek. The road in and out was actually horrendous and so much worse than the hike itself so prepare. If you get motion sickness this might be an issue.

We did it on Dec 25, 2025. Such a beautiful trail. Take 1 peso coins for using bathroom on trailhead.

The view was breathtaking. Literally too — the ascent is not easy due to the elevation of 4600 m. In my group one girl was vomiting, one guy had a nose bleed and some turned around. Make sure you acclimatize.

Fantastic scenery. The hike for fit people is a maximum of three hours up and two down. Unfit Instagrammers who haven’t acclimated should have second thoughts. Indeed there were 7 people on our minibus who were not fit enough to make it to the lagoon.

It's a gorgeous, breath taking colorful lake in the Andes mountains of Ancash, Perú. You must book a tour with a local agency in Huaraz and they'll provide transportation and guidance for 50 soles. You must pay another 30 for the entrance fee. If you plan to go to other places of the national park, you should buy the 3 day pass for 60. The hike can take from 2-3 hours on the way up and 1 to 2 hours coming back. Try to get used to the height before going here because you'll get sick otherwise. Also, take snacks and lunch with you since there are no restaurants around. There are more lakes on the way so have your camera ready!!

One of the best things I've seen on my trip around south America. I had been told good things about laguna 69 and I was not disappointed. The scenery was stunning and I was amazed at how quite and tranquil it was. I'd definitely recommend coming here as it's such an stunning bit of nature!

Quite the hike to get there, but well worth it. Nice coffee & biscuits in the hut when finished as well! No point in uploading photos - you know what it looks like! Amazing.
