Lake Forbes Motel

'Dear guest, your booking has been cancelled'. This was an email from Lake Forbes Motel via Booking.com just days out from our expected arrival. I had made the booking for 4 adults back in April for the date of Fri July 18. I replied via the site saying , 'no we wish to keep the booking'. Another email arrived some days later and on the day of our booking I called the motel. I was simply told, 'there has been a double booking and we have cancelled your booking'. How did this happen? Did someone book before me way back in April? Highly unlikely. The person I spoke to wasn't apologetic at all. No assistance was offered in finding suitable accommodation as a replacement. Instead we were left with a couple of hours left before dark to scramble and find somewhere in another town. I would have expected a phone call from them to inform me of the situation, not an impersonal email. Might I suggest you look up the words 'hospitality' and 'customer service'. I have traveled the world and Australia for over 40 years and this was the worst examples of that.

Second time staying here and it’s consistently great. Clean rooms, peaceful setting, and very friendly staff. Feels like a home away from home.

Don't expect a welcome smile! Unusual business practices. I booked this 8 months in advance for the Elvis Festival and was asked for a 50% deposit, which I thought was unusual, but paid by card. More unusual was that on arrival 8 months later the incredibly rude receptionist demanded that I provide proof I had paid because they had 'lost the receipt'. All very stressful and upsetting. I was never asked for ID. Despite my repeated requests I never received a proper receipt for either of my payments, which is problematic if you need them for tax. The internet didn't work. The bathroom was dirty with mould on the shower curtain. Outside the room was a large plant pot full of cigarette ends. There is a lake view if you cross the road and walk a bit, but not from the room. I could not recommend this motel, and will not return.

'Your booking has been cancelled' was the email response. I had booked in April one room for 4 adults for Fri July 18. Then the impersonal email arrived just days out from our arrival. I phoned on the day of our intending booking to be told ' the room is double booked and we have cancelled your booking'. No assistance offered at all. Very poor customer service. We were left scrambling to find an alternative at the last minute. Avoid at all costs.

Really accommodating with a quite late check in, room was clean and tidy and just what we needed for a quite stop through. Family room was reasonably priced too. And good location. Thank you 😃

This is an older motel and it's a bit tired but it was clean and quiet and had a great shower. The location is the best part as it's right near the lake with a park alongside that has community BBQs and a coffee shop. It's a short walk over the bridge to the town centre.

More than adequate for a short term stay. The beds were comfortable and the shower facilities were fine.

VERY rude receptionist demanded proof that we had paid as THEY lost the receipt. Despite requests, they did not provide proper receipts - so if you need them for tax purposes, don't stay here. It's not a quiet location-it's between 2 roads. We couldn't see the lake from the room as advertised - it's across the park.The shower curtain was mouldy, margins of bathroom floor and caddy for complimentary toiletries dirty. Rusty shower rail and towel rails. The towels were thin. Outside the room was a gross bin full of cigarette butts. Oppressive smell of air freshener in the room. The wifi didn't work. The air conditioner did work. The river parkland was lovely for a walk. We won't stay here again.
