Canberra, Australia: Where to Eat and Drink

"To see the vines, I drove 40 minutes to Lake George Winery, which has three eco-cabins at the top of the sloping vineyard with wonderful views of the moon above, or wombats below." - Nina Caplan

Lake George Winery made my husband Andrew’s milestone birthday celebrations an unforgettable experience. Cellar Room - The Cellar Room is a Hidden GEM. The cellar room is a beauty where we hosted our event . As we had fair number of people attending , management organised enough heating to keep us all warm . Winery - The winery offered excellent views and we were captivated . It felt entering into a massive estate which was just off federal highway so it was easy for our interstate guests to locate it . Food & Service - Food, ambiance, customer service , working with the management - from conception to execution the experience is impeccable. Wait staff and management staff , owners went above and beyond to deliver the best services and are very hospitable. We created a personalised menu and had additions which was very well looked after by management. Food is to die for . The presentation, flavors, freshness of ingredients, and how well-executed each dish was mind blowing . The new chef captivated us with the charisma and flavour of food . Wines are to die for . Our guests advised they had never tasted such fine wine 🍷 before. Cannot recommend enough . It was a pleasure knowing and working with the management . 💯 stars ⭐️ review From - Reena & Andrew

We had our wedding at Lake George Winery and they were absolutely amazing! From the very start, through all of the planning, to the day of the wedding, Shelly and Noor were great to deal with! They were super friendly, helpful and answered all of our questions, as well as quite flexible and able to adjust things suit our vision. On the day of the wedding, all of the staff were lovely and very supportive (even when unforeseen circumstances meant we were running over an hour late for the reception) which meant we were able to truly relax and enjoy our special day! We also booked out the homestead, cottage and all of the tiny homes and it cannot be understated how great it was to have our bridal party and immediate family close by for all the whole day and night before. We can’t thank Lake George Winery enough for helping create our perfect wedding!

Overall, dining at LGW was a delight from start to finish. The menu offers a wide variety of options, and everything we tried was delicious. I especially loved the dessert wine paired with tiramisu. The service was great and the charming ambiance made for a memorable experience.

We attended the Lake George Winery as a part of a Potters tour. Our group was around 50 people and we were catered to in the downstairs cellar. It was quite cold down there and most of our group were rugged up in jackets but still complaining about the lack of heat. Our main meal was nice, being a piece of steak, some mash potato and a small pile of salad vegetables. We had dessert next, which was quite underwhealming both in its size and in its taste. When my wife received hers it looked like the waiter must have stumbled down the stairs while delivering it. Mine was next and it looked even worse!

This place is fantastic 👌 👏I hired the dome and attended with family for a pre Mother's Day lunch. It was private and cosy with the heater to keep us warm and even on a dreary rainy and cold day, we all thoroughly enjoyed our delicious lunch and wine tasting surrounded by the beautiful vineyard. All the staff were very friendly, attentive and professional making sure our dining experience was a memorable one. I highly recommend visiting Lake George Winery and hiring the dome for somewhere different to enjoy a delicious meal with a unique experience. I will definitely be back with friends and family in the future 😊

The homestead stay is fantastic. Our extended family holiday was divine and we were all able to stretch out and enjoy the hot tub and stunning views. Waking up to the sunrise on Lake George was an amazing experience. We enjoyed lunch and the wine tasting and were thoroughly looked after by all the staff. Thanks for making our family feel looked after.

I attended the Unveiling Vintage 2024 Event with friends on Saturday and we had a wonderful time. It was a fun experience with beautiful food and wine, live music and trivia. A big thank you to all of the team at Lake George Winery for their warm hospitality on the day. Also a special mention to Nina who was amazing at helping with all my queries in the lead up to the event. Very much appreciated 🤩

Service attitude? Bad. Food quality? Horrendous. Worth the money? Absolutely not. Let me walk through the terrific experience we had today. We were greeted well upon arrival, which gave us the false impression that maybe this place isn’t too bad under the new management, so we asked for lunch & wine-tasting. However, this level of service did not last long. After we ordered food, my friend noticed that her dish Kingfish Khichdi was missing a poached egg. We called for help & a lady wearing casual clothing came to replace that dish for her. This is unacceptable because the female staff not only did not wear formal attire but also failed to notice the problem of the dish before bringing it to the customer. It wasn’t a cheap dish whose price, $38, can even be considered as that of fine-dining of the same level. Furthermore, we all wanted to order steaks because they go well with wine. Amazingly, this winery doesn’t have any beef dishes, so we ended up ordering Butter Chicken Coq au Vin. They were excessively salty, dry & with a very small portion. Can’t believe that such a dish would cost $53 when the KFC tastes 10 times better at a price 10 times cheaper. As for the Indian-French Bouillabaisse, the soup had a bad colour, was too salty to be consumed & the seafood was merely ordinary. A whopping $54 for such a miserable dish is nothing normal but astonishing. On the positive note, Magic Mushrooms was alright apart from the half-burnt bread which cost $31 when it would only be $13 in Canberra’s city centre. At the end of lunch, the staff who initially greeted us asked how it was & apologised repeatedly after learning about our experience. We turned down her offer of a very cheap wine as compensation because it was merely not on par with our dissatisfaction, so we would rather post this genuine review for everyone to see. Eventually, we decided to withdraw our need of wine-tasting due to the lack of confidence in the winery’s operations. If they can’t even handle half-prepared food ingredients well, how could we trust that they can make good-quality wine from scratch? In a word, half of everything we ordered was inedible. For the sake of your health, financial & emotional wellbeing, go to another winery where they actually know what they are doing rather than this one whose owner seems to run it like a profitable business without passion or care.
