Went this week 11/26-11/29. Last weekend of the year to rent to Lake view cabin. Pretty view, had to hop down and climb up for the Lake. But it was overall a nice space, and a nice view. MANY gun shots from hunters 😆 Very very dark as promised at night. The cabin had a little electic heater and surge protector cord, which was nice for the cold. Check in was a bit complicated. STOP AT THAT YELLOW PHONE! (at the entrance gate, if no one is there, thats where you have to check in) It will save you at LEAST min 30 mins and a call back from the prob one worker on site. 1st time here, would like to save you that anxiety 😅 Vault toilets were a bit of a walk ( we had snow the night we got there) Cabin has room for a nighttime bucket potty though. Pump water, use those guns, it's a workout. Fire pits were nice and deep, for the windy lake, we brought a grill to over, but it fit inside perfect. Loved the firepits. Overall it was a nice stay, super dark, very very quiet end Nov, besides the hunters :)

We spent a weekend camping and fishing, we had a blast. We used the hiking trail from the campground to the dark zone. It was well maintained and easy to see. We hiked in the daylight but it could be possible in the dark with proper flashlights. The campground was nice with each spot spread out and decently quiet in the evening. Electric hookup only. No showers or running water but they do have a bathroom outhouse situation (vault toilet). The fishing was good. Some of the campsites offer an opportunity to fish from the campsite with direct access to the lake. Each site has a fire pit but no grate for grilling. If you want to grill over the fire you will need bring your own grate. If you found this review helpful please give a 👍.

We visited once at the end of September which was so peaceful! We took the short walk from the dark sky park to the beach front. It was definitely worth our drive down! I also came last night to see the northern lights at the dark sky preserve, and WOW. The stars and sky were gorgeous and I love having a preserve so close!

Great place to get away. It is semi-primitive with no running water or sewer, but it does have electricity, although I had to go out and buy a 100-foot power cord due to the electrical box being so far from the main setup area. As previously mentioned, Lake Hudson is a great place to get away from it all. There are trails, a beach with picnic areas, boat launches, lots of wildlife, but most of all, serenity.

Overall Experience: Extremely Disappointing My husband and I drove a significant distance from Kokomo, Indiana, excited to spend five nights over the 4th of July weekend at this recreational area. Unfortunately, due to a series of unacceptable issues, we packed up and made the weary drive home after just two nights. Our first site was immediately problematic. It was situated on such a severe slope that we needed a ladder just to reach the front door, leaving it five feet off the ground, and access to the back of our trailer where our kitchen was located was near impossible. To make matters worse, the entire site was foul: it was heavily covered in dog waste, resulting in a terrible stench and an abundance of large flies. The logistical setup was equally poor. The hookups were ridiculously far from our rig, requiring two extension cords and spanning 60 to 70 feet. While there were closer hookups on the opposite side, we were unable to use them as a rude neighbor was using every available outlet. Finally, the firewood we purchased was delivered so late that we had already gone to bed, and it was left unattended by the road, 50 to 60 feet from our rig.  Good thing the roads were unlit or I am sure someone would have made off with our firewood. Hoping to salvage the trip, we switched to a new site the next day. While the slope and smell were resolved, we discovered there was zero shade, leaving us exposed to temperatures of 96 degrees. After one sweltering night, we were exhausted and slightly toasted by the sun. We made the decision to cut our reservation short, feeling disappointed and out of pocket. While the staff at the check in kiosk were friendly, the overall poor condition and suitability of the sites, combined with the extreme heat and lack of preparedness, meant this was simply not the space for us. We will not be returning.

Trash all around edges of campsite, very clearly they do not come and clean up campsites between parties. I found used needles, lancets and so much trash in my site. I felt uncomfortable in the campsite due to this and was weary of letting my child explore. I also bought firewood on my way in and was told it would be approximately 40 minutes before it was brought to my site..it took them over 3 hours and they offered no apologies. I had to call 4 times and beg them to bring it. To top it off, the woman at the gate was extremely rude when we checked in. We ended up leaving a day early and will not return to this park.

This has become one of my favorite places in southern Michigan. It is used regularly, but does not get overly crowded. The staff keeps the grounds immaculate - and the lake is navigable for fishing and exploring, but not for waterspout like skiing, so it is quieter than some and the animals stay nearer as a result. The campground is primitive, but well-tended and there is not a better place to watch the sky (designated dark sky observatory) for a meteor shower. Bring your binoculars and bug spray and stay for an afternoon or a weekend. Your inner peace will thank you.

Small campground, no water (except hand pump well) or dump station. Be prepared to have a long power cord. Ours was at least 80 feet away. We stayed on site 47. Large site, private, and level. Sites connect with small trails behind, nice for multi-family camping. A few waterfront sites, vault toilets are well maintained, the beach is nice, and they keep the sand raked. The dock is also well maintained and has kayak launches. Lake is no wake at all times. They sell firewood 3 bundles for $15. Make sure to put all your food away at night, the raccoons WILL visit. There's acute grassy trail to the beach, about a mile each way. The Dark Park does not disappoint on a clear sky night, so grab a blanket and check it out!

Yelp
After a few years we are back to one of our favorite campgrounds in southern Michigan. It's a dark sky preserve campground with very few amenities. Pit toilets, hand pumps for water. Its so quiet and peaceful. Word of warning. Several of the sites have the electric box a fair distance from the actual campsite. We thought we had enough cord to mbv ake it. Nope, short by about 15 feet. Thank goodness the next day a friend who was visiting hit an rv store for more cord. Being that it is a rustic campground, there is no dump for RVs. A quick drive to the fairgrounds in Adrian or Hayes State Park will handle the for you. The starts at night are worth the inconvenience.

Yelp
Peaceful camping. Private sites. Sites right on the water, makes it feel like the lake yours for the weekend. Been camping here at least once a year since 2011. One of my favorite campgrounds.
