A beautiful spot to stay in, whether you're wanting a chilled break or resting up to between days on the Te Araroa trail or Alps 2 Ocean cycle trail (A2O). Various options for rooms, from hostel-style to private rooms, we stayed in a room with private bathroom in the Temple wing overlooking the lake and mountains, including Mt Cook on the distance. A truly magical view.
The bed was very comfortable, and the shower was amazing.
You need to make sure you dine at the lodge. Especially in the evenings where you are seated with other guests from around the world. The 3 course set menu dinner was superb and at just over $60, it must be one of the best value meals around. And don't get me started about the fresh bread served throughout the meal, it was sooo good.
And the 2 hot tubs! What better way to unwind after a busy day. Sitting on the deck looking out over the lake and mountains.
Plenty of things to do nearby. Walking and biking, there's a full frisbee golf course to try and a tennis court.
Wonderful service from the friendly staff just capped it off nicely.
Don't forget to bring insect repellent if planning on being near the lake or rivers (though they do sell it at the reception).
