Because the Lake Powell Motel was full, Mark, the owner, invited us to stay in his own home. He calls it The Hopi House B&B. At first we were a bit wary about staying in the innkeeper's home, but Mark very quickly put us fully and completely at ease. Before we met Mark, I was a bit nervous that we would be causing him inconvenience, or that staying in his private residence might inconvenience us. Neither was true. He met us when we arrived, even though his "day job" is at his Lake Powell Motel. He was immediately personable, extremely kind, and immeasurably knowledgeable about the vicinity. We occupied the upstairs, and Mark came and went as he chose from his downstairs residence. I could go on at length about the excellent breakfasts, and about how solicitously he catered to our preferences. He met all our needs as though doing so were no big deal for him. We were completely at ease. Because Mark was relaxed about our being there, we felt as though we could be equally relaxed. The room was homey, very clean and totally comfortable. The price was extremely competitive. Since my purpose in Page was to photograph Antelope Canyon, I had a hundred questions for Mark. His firsthand knowledge of the procedures on the Navajo Reservation, and of many photographers who had been guests, gave me a considerable advantage over other photographers who arrived at the site without prior preparation. He offered recommendations for restaurants and other services that were spot-on. He made his computer available to us, and met every need we had. Either the Lake Powell Motel or the Hopi House B&B would be an excellent choice if you need lodging near Page, Arizona.
