Clean. Pristine. Quiet. Not crowded. The water is so refreshing and clean. And is not far from the tri state area. Especially coming from nyc. You can rent some boats or take your own inflatable out in to the lake or just take a dip in the water. Highly recommend visiting here it is a breath of fresh air. Come prepared to stay long cause you will feel so at peace.

Beautiful place to visit I visited Lake Waramaug State Park recently and had a fantastic experience. The lake is absolutely stunning—calm, clear, and surrounded by gorgeous rolling hills. It’s a perfect spot for kayaking or just relaxing by the water. The picnic areas were clean and well-maintained, and there was plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the view. We also explored a bit of the campground. The sites are spacious and nicely shaded, and it looked like a great place to spend the night. There’s a good mix of families, couples, and solo campers, and it felt very safe and welcoming. The park staff was friendly, and the bathrooms were in decent condition for a state park. I highly recommend visiting, especially in the fall when the foliage is at its peak. Can’t wait to come back!

May be my favorite place to camp... certainly in CT if you wake up with the sun the sunrise over the lake is fabulous. It's clean and well maintained. Lots.of day trippers... Nice safe bike road around the lake. Campsites have almost all grass which is wonderful vs gravel or dirt (comfy and clean) but still plenty of shade. Generally very well placed campsites. And a few cabins. No dogs not obvious alcohol (beer in a cup seems fine)

The natural environment is unspoiled. The Supervisor and many staff members I wish were the same. The patron gets "No that's not possible..." (May I please get my $7 back for the firewood I didn't use and remains packaged ?) and (May I please get a refund for the two days and nights I didn't use the campsite due to leaving early ?) Don't bother approaching them because the answer is "No" or "I don't know". Why did I leave early ? The management's decision to house a party of at least 11 adults and as many children, with an entourage of cooking tents and buffet tables, a lighted canopy, right smack in the middle of the campground and you guessed it, right next to me. No fault of the people renting the campsite. They were lovely. But there was no solution or compromise available. Somebody trained the teenage staff to "just say no" and the insufferably dour staff member, annoyed I had a question at 8:30 a.m., a half hour before the "Office" opened...honestly, what a smug bunch, embodied in their leader so programmed to formulate the denial he doesn't actively listen to the complaint. Also, expect the bathrooms to be cleaned first thing in the morning because that's what's convenient for them.

The campground is clean and flat but it's very open. There are no trees/barriers at all between the sites so you are looking at all your neighbors the whole time. Tons of kids so expect lots of screaming and crying the whole time. Got woken up at 630am every morning by crying babies. The worst part is the park workers who really have no chill. They are teenagers who take themselves way too seriously. They patrol the property every 5 minutes and enforce the rules no matter how small or trivial. One of our tents was accidentally a foot into another camp site that was completely empty (because nothing separating them so it's hard to tell the boundary) and they made us move it. Also threatened to call the cops if we didn't move a car in 2 minutes. Overall just not very pleasant people. The lake is OK. Large and scenic but water is kinda murky. Tried fishing but barely caught anything. You can rent kayaks for about $20/hr. My kayak had a broken seat so you're probably better off to bring your own if you have it. The town nearby has a fun coffee shop and expensive shopping if that's your thing.

Lake Waramaug State Park offers a breathtaking lakeside camping experience with great outdoor activities and affordability—especially for families and rookie campers. If you're prepared for minimal site privacy, potentially crowded conditions, and rustic amenities, you'll likely enjoy your stay. But, if you crave solitude, spotless facilities, or full-service RV hookups, another park with a stronger woods buffer and better enforcement might be a better fit.

It is a beautiful place for a relaxing day with some member of the family. We spent the day grilling meat and vegetables. I really appreciate the visitors behavior and the level of maturity show while sharing outdoor space. I also enjoyed very much that I didn't have to listen loudly music blasting the whole area, people exaggerating laugh, neither loudly conversation. It was magical and quiet. There are public restroom nearby the camping area and near to the parking area as well. There is a camping side only available for members and or by reservacion with the park authorities. The only cons is the designated beach or swimming space with lifeguard, it is too small, like really small. You are permitted to swim in other area of the lake but at your own risk.

Kinda expensive ($38 per night) for a field next to a goose poop filled lake. They did have showers and potable water. Overall, kinda narc vibes, we were told that if we were caught drinking a beer we'd get the police called on us. Here is some entertaining signage showing the innumerable restrictions of the campground. I fear for the family that gets caught performing a "throw-catch" activity on the beach.

Yelp
Wow just wow. Coming here in fall just took my breath away. The lake is beautiful but also is the surrounding area. Just park your car or drive around the lake and you will understand how beautiful this place is.

Yelp
Very beautiful. Went camping there over the weekend. I was expecting something more secluded. The trees are scarce and you can see your neighbor. Our last night there I could hear the neighbor snoring! Also you can't hang anything from the trees. The bathrooms are kept clean with plenty of TP. If you are looking for something more secluded and private this is NOT the place. The lake is beautiful and great for kayaking. We also ended up going wine tasting at Hopkins winery.

Yelp
My family has gone camping here for two years running on the last weekend of the summer. We have a wonderful time, largely because we rent a cabin. The campground (like most of the state parks in CT) is crowded and not at all "wilderness." In a cabin, you feel a bit more like you're alone. There are always kids around for my son to play with. The lake is nice and good for fishing. The beach is tiny but fun enough to cool off. And the surrounding area is just beautiful.

Yelp
Absolutely gorgeous scenery. If you are ever in the New Milford, Kent, and Washington area of CT, I highly recommend giving it a look!!!!

Yelp
The camping area of this park is a little cramped. But I did not go there to camp but to kayak. The lake is clean and beautiful and you can paddle around for hours. Launching your kayak is a little precarious as you have to have your car on the road while doing so. But the nice people and the scenery more than make up for it. I would suggest going during the week when there are no power boats on the lake.

Yelp
A very beautiful natural lake in Northwest Connecticut nestled in the corner of Warren, Washington Depot and Kent. On site kayak/canoe rentals, small beach, a few campsites. Beware - water quality testing NOT DONE REGULARLY - during drier periods it is quite buggy. The waterfowl population is thriving which is great for ornithologists not so great for avoiding their debris. Surrounding lakefront mansions provide an easy distraction.

Yelp
After researching CT state parks with a lake, picnic facilities and nice restrooms, we decided to try Lake Waramaug State Park in Litchfield County. Needless to say the drive was very pretty. We really only explored the lake side of the park. Their campground is across the street from the lake. We got there at around 12:30pm on a Sunday. We found a good parking spot (btw, although at least one review mentions free parking, we paid for parking) and managed to find one of the last remaining picnic tables to spread our food. . Yes, indeed, I was happy to take pre-made meal as it would have been a bit challenging to find a grill with a picnic table in the proximity. There was no grill by our table which was fine for this visit since we had no need for it. Kids got on the water in kayaks and had a great time for an hour. The shore has plenty of shade so my husband and I found a good spot to set our chairs and just take in the scenery. I would have given this park a higher rating if they had good hiking trails. Although one of the workers said they cut a trail last fall starting from the parking lot and ending up in the campground, it didn't sound like anything significant for us to try. So I was really disappointed that we couldn't hike that day. Other than that, it's definitely a good park to go back for a family picnic. We plan to visit again with my extended family in August!

Yelp
Pros: Change areas for swimming, free parking, kayak rentals Cons: limited beach, views nothing to boast about Lake Waramaug is a actually a pretty nice lakeside park, but it didn't have much to comment on. There is ample free parking across the street where they have washroom and change rooms. I imagine this place is fairly popular in the summer for kids who want to swim. They have a dedicated area for swimming while the rest is left over for boating/kayaking. We came to the area to kayak and that's what we did. They actually had a very good deal - $10 for one hour to rent a kayak. I've kayaked before so I felt comfortable to take a $10 rental and try it out - but this was my gf's first time. The boats were fine, seemed solid. They didn't come with a skirt, so your shorts will get wet using the boat. The life jackets supplied were the cheap over the head ones, so if you're not comfortable in the boat to begin with you may want to bring a more substantial one for piece of mind. The water was pretty smooth with only small waves. We both felt comfortable making our way around the lake. An hour was enough time to exercise our arms and get back. If I lived in the area I would go back to relax on the beach, but I don't think I would tell anyone to go out of their way to visit this park.

Yelp
We started a camping tradition at Lake Waramaug on Memorial weekend several years back and we look forward to it every year. You're all tucked in with other campers -- so it's not a wilderness getaway -- but the Lake is the thing! You live and learn. For us? We snag a cabin if we can -- there's 4 of them. Otherwise -- we want to be up front right across from the lake. Kayak/Canoe/Paddle board rentals are perfect. There is a small beach area -- great for some toes in the sand and for little ones. Perfect for fishing. Other campers are friendly -- the area is well supervised. It quiets down just fine at night. We camp with great friends each year and always pick a day to invite other fam and friends to make a daytrip to picnic and enjoy the lake with us. Ample parking and a good time is always had by all. Again - the lake is the thing! It takes you away with every glimpse and just the thought of an hour floating around in a kayak on it -- gets me through April AND May ... Great solo getaway or date day -- there is a bed/breakfast and vineyard/winery to round that out if you prefer more civilized lodging when night falls. For a memory-making family outing, it's spot on.

Yelp
Lake Waramaug was always a 5 star camping trip for me until the last 2 years. I don't know what happened there, whether is was the building of the cabins or the Sandy storm, but it appears that "something" disturbed the skunks habitat and they are all over the campgrounds as soon as it gets dark. Its horrible. It is not a peaceful evening sitting around the camp fire when you're looking out for skunks. These animals walk right up to you because they can't see and it is the worst feeling because you fear that any movement and they'll spray you. Not a good place anymore. When I spoke with the people in the office, they claim it's not a problem, but it's a big problem and if they don't figure it out and solve it, people are going to stop going there, including my family. Trap them and relocate them. They need to find a solution.
