5 Best Day Trips from Tokyo | Condé Nast Traveler

"Rent bicycles and curl your way around Lake Yamanaka, stopping every so often to gaze up at Mount Fuji towering overhead; just when you think you've found its best angle, there's another spot that's even better just ahead. The area really comes to life when the seasons turn, when bright blooms and leaves decorate the surrounding trees. Although perched high in the mountains, the ground encircling the lake is very flat, making it easy to navigate on foot or by bike." - Brandon Presser

Lake Yamanaka is a calm and scenic spot that’s perfect for a relaxing visit. The area is peaceful, with well-kept walking and cycling paths around the lake, and it offers a variety of outdoor activities like boating, fishing, and picnicking. If you’re lucky and the weather is clear, the view of Mount Fuji from the lake is absolutely breathtaking. But keep in mind—it’s often cloudy, and Fuji can be completely hidden. Early mornings tend to give you the best chance of a clear view. Even without seeing Fuji, the lake and surrounding nature are beautiful and worth the visit. A great place to unwind and enjoy a quieter side of the Fuji Five Lakes.

I love the lake its less crowded compared to Kawaguchiko lake and there are a lot of spots where you can capture Mount Fuji photos. You can drive around the lake or cycle around the lake. There are several convenience store and restaurants as well as many parks around the lake too. It is a very enjoyable route to see Mount Fuji.

A simple place, without many attractions besides the stunning view of Mount Fuji. The best time of year to visit is in the winter.

Fuji Safari Park is very fun and interesting. You drive past the animals and get to see them up close. The large area is incredible, and you also have a view of Mount Fuji.

Absolutely breathtaking lake with crystal-clear views. Plan to spend a good 45–60 minutes soaking in the scenery and feeding the swans and ducks. We visited the day after a snowstorm, so Mt. Fuji was hiding behind the clouds—tough luck! Still, the snow-covered surroundings were pure magic.

We had such a memorable experience here. Lake Yamanaka is the largest lake in Fuji. The wild swans add to the beauty of the lake with Mount Fuji in the background. Feeding the swans and ducks was really fun, aside from taking too many photos of Mount Fuji and the lake!

Very serene and calm lake. That is until I saw HUNDREDS of koi fish at the jetty practically beaching themselves for food. Quite the sight. It was cool but unfortunately cloudy so I didn't get to see the top of Mt fuji. I still really enjoyed my team here though.

Lake Yamanaka is truly peaceful, nestled at the foot of Mount Fuji. A flock of white swans, along with some wild ducks and cygnets, will swim closer when you feed them. Food is sold right at the entrance. You can capture a photo with the swans and Mount Fuji together.
