If you want to step back in time, the Lakeside Inn in Mount Dora is the place to stay. Erected in 1883, the Inn is situated next to the Mount Dora Lake with a great view of the lake and sunsets. It has two other bedding facilities, gift shop and a pool next to the lake with breathtaking views. Their kitchen prepares a wide variety of American and traditional cuisine. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and they provide multiple places to eat such as the outdoor seating facing the lake and indoor seating at the Tremain's Tavern or the Beauclaire with views of their lush gardens. The service staff are very attentive and warm ensuring you are comfortable and enjoy your experience in the Inn. We were warmly greeted by Judy and Nicole who acquainted us with the Inn. Kim who served us breakfast, provided tips to further enjoy the town, and Justin went over and above to ensure we had a great food experience and enjoyed our stay. The Lakeside Inn promises a memorable experience combining history, relaxation, and delicious cuisine in a charming setting.I highly recommend you stay at the Inn the next time you visit Mount Dora.

First! Thank you Corrie for recommending the orange cake! It was delicious. Soft, light, and creamy! We loved it. This Inn is our favorite when we stay in Mt Dora. The building it self is adorable. Rooms are always so clean and comfortable. The staff is #1… The views of Lake mt Dora are spectacular. We love to seat at the big balcony and rock on the chairs just looking at all the people enjoy the many things that go on in this cute area. It has easy access to all the great places like trails, restaurants and any festivals that are happening since is in the center of the historical area. We just love it! If you want to rest, enjoy good views, and shop at very interesting cute shops… I recommend this hotel as a place to stay while you are in mt Dora!

I stayed here twice many moons ago and knew they were renovating so staying here now I was hoping the room would be improved but it wasn't. This review is difficult because the staff are so nice and helpful and they work really hard, and also, the grounds are beautiful and in a great location but I can't ignore the negative. And really the only negative is the bugs. I can deal with the old carpet, the small rooms(it's historic after all)but I can't ignore the bugs. My wife would scream every time she went in the bathroom because there was always a new visitor. First, it was a small spider, no big deal. Then, later the same night, a huge cockroach crawled next to the toilet. I don't do roaches, that's always a major red flag for me. Then, we noticed termites and small flying bugs. When we woke up the next morning, the bathroom floor and sink were covered with wings from those flying bugs. It's a shame they don't get the creepy crawlers under control because it's such a beautiful property with one of my favorite lobbies, but I don't want to deal with bugs when I'm staying at a hotel. Made us both feel dirty. Our next trip to Mt Dora will be in a B&B. Worth the extra $.

Hard Truth Post Pros: Location, Location, LOCATION! This place is located in a very quaint town and offers its guests stunning views of the lake. It’s in walking distance of downtown and gluten free restaurants, which is a huge plus. Staff was super nice and honestly went above and beyond to help or answer any questions. Yes the rooms are small, about 1/2 the size of a typical room and 1/2 the size of a typical bathroom, but then again this was a historic adventure. Rooms were clean. Only one small spider. And the A/C was strong! Water pressure in the toilets and showers were strong! Cons: “It’s a 5 star for what it is.” I personally think it’s 2-3 star worthy, but for what it is, I guess 5 stars… Carpet was clearly old. Showers and rooms outdated. Shower was kinda dirty when we got there. Night crew was going to charge me for a tooth brush. :( . Food was ridiculously priced so we went to town to eat. Beach area has wasps and flies.

Great place. Service was second to none and the breakfast was top of the line. Gift shop lady was kind and helpful. Will be back for special celebrations. Special thanks to Floyd for making my birthday bright; his service was great and he took control of the dining experience like a pro.

Google
What a lovely stay in this 140 year old well maintained hotel! The lobby has beautiful seating areas, a fireplace, baby grand piano. I believe I read sometimes someone plays it in the evening. They play gentle classical piano music throughout. Our room faced the lake, sunset was amazing. It's cozy, quaint and quiet.

We cannot thank the team at Lakeside Inn enough for making our daughter’s wedding an absolutely unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived to the very last dance, everything was handled with such care, professionalism, and warmth. The food was outstanding—beautifully presented, delicious, and enjoyed by every single guest. We received so many compliments throughout the night! The service staff was equally impressive—attentive, kind, and efficient, making sure everyone was comfortable and taken care of. A very special thank you to Kristen, our wedding coordinator, and her amazing assistant Christopher. Their attention to detail, calm presence, and genuine dedication ensured that the day ran flawlessly. They anticipated every need before we even had to ask, handled any hiccups with grace, and made sure our daughter and son-in-law felt truly celebrated. The Lakeside Inn is not just a beautiful venue—it’s made extraordinary by the people who run it. We are so grateful to have chosen this place for such a special day.

Google
This hotel is gorgeous and in a great location. Beautiful grounds and buildings. The food was excellent and the service was good. Our room was nice with a great AC. But the rooms don't have normal amenities that you might expect in a hotel. No mini-fridge, no coffee pot. Also, I was here with a large group for a family reunion and several family members were mobility challenged and the hotel does have lots of stairs that make it difficult to get around if you are mobility challenged. In addition, some of the rooms did not have AC that worked well.

Yelp
Great place to unwind and relax. Friendly folks that preserved the community and kept it as it should be, Cozy Florida. Stayed there many times and will be back soon.

Yelp
Gorgeous views, town is walking distance. We were there for a wedding which was looking out on the lake. Stay was very friendly. Dinner was made by restaurant in the Inn. Very delicious, rooms are a bit musty smelling. What I guess that's what you get staying in a historical Inn.

Yelp
I want so badly to recommend but can only do so if this changes management. We ADORE historic places which is why I hope this place never goes away but it needs an owner to come in and give it the love and attention it and its staff deserve. The reviews say it all but I'll add that if I took a photo of our room and asked my friends to guess where we were, they'd guess a Motel 6 in the 90s. I love the little charms but they get overshadowed by the VERY noisy hallway, the bugs, the lack of any sort of comforter (we had two sheets on our bed and that was it), we were begging for breathable air as the room lacked any ventilation as windows are painted shut, that we waited an hour past check in and then also couldn't get breakfast in AM during their open hours because they were "booked". The thing is, the staff is aware I think they are just resigned that nothing will be done about it. We will def come back but stay elsewhere and forgo the convenience of the location.

Yelp
We ate on the front porch as we love the view and warm Florida breezes! Our server was very busy, but very sweet and attentive. I had a crab cake sandwich on a brioche bun and it was very tasty - lots of crabmeat. My husband had the strawberry pecan salad and loved it. The restroom was well stocked though there was a very busy art festival in town and I appreciated that. We'll be back!

Yelp
This review can only speak for the Verandah. What an enchanting and special place! I've long wondered about visiting but have never really been sure what all's open to the public. Sort of looks private. After visiting a small car show on the grounds a few weeks ago, I learned otherwise and endeavored to see about brunch one Sunday and so we did at the Verandah boasting the only lake front dining in Mount Dora. I've spied it before on a Sunday and know they get busy so we went early. So I'm into biscuits and gravy lately, having grown up on oatmeal, and I'm trying it just about everywhere I can and well, their biscuits and gravy's solid. Not cheap with the meat, nice fluffy slightly crispy biscuit, and not flavorless or soupy. Nice. Our waitress, I don't know about her. She fussed about me looking at the lunch menu she put in front of me because they were only serving brunch and was in absentia afterward so much so someone else brought out our food and no one ever followed up with us. Needed pepper, needed hot sauce, needed water refills (thankfully we had our own bottle water intended for a later boat tour), and needed coffee refills. As if! Never got them until we were right close to getting the check. She sure was friendly in the end. Nice place. Good food. Weird not so good service. We came here to enjoy ourselves and not be forced into an experience. That said, different day, different waitress, maybe, and I'd probably like the place.

Yelp
We dined at The Beauclaire for lunch on Memorial Day. This restaurant is part of the historic Lakeside Inn in Mount Dora. It was a very hot but beautiful day so we decided to enjoy our meals on the porch which offers a view of Lake Dora. Dalton was our server and he did a swell job taking care of us. My stepdad and I enjoyed iced tea and my mom had water. Mom ordered a 1/2 club sandwich with a bowl of soup. The Beauclaire features a daily soup and on this particular day it was veggie with couscous. However, they neglected to mention it also contained chunks of beef. Fortunately, mom isn't a vegetarian so no harm no foul. My stepdad ordered the club sandwich as well but an entire one which was accompanied by fries. Both enjoyed their sandwiches very much, but he wasn't crazy about the fries. I ordered the fresh Florida salad which featured mixed greens, grilled shrimp, mandarin oranges, red onion, sliced avocado, pecan pralines, and hearts of palm. I swapped out the hearts for berries and opted for the recommended honey citrus vinaigrette dressing. The ingredients were extremely fresh and the salad was delicious. I was very hungry so it left me slightly unfulfilled but, I ate 2/3 crackers that were served with my mom's soup and this did the trick. I tasted mom's soup and it was very good. It tasted homemade and they were generous with the beef which was very tender. The ambiance is lovely. The Inn and the property are very charming and I would absolutely lodge here. I highly recommend checking this place out whether it's for vacation or a meal. All three meals are available at The Beauclaire and breakfast looks superb! Additionally, there is a nice tavern inside the Inn: Tremain's Tavern. The restrooms were very clean and provide an old school charm. The entire experience was great!

Yelp
Historic hotel open since 1883 in charming downtown Mount Dora. My room in one of the lakefront buildings was desperately in need of a refresh, with tired furnishings and obvious termite issues in bath. Very friendly staff and good bar service. Lots of locals drinking at pool and hotel bar.

Yelp
We are in disbelief that what is supposed to be an iconic Mt Dora property is in such a state of deterioration. We reported conditions to front desk person who literally responded "no one has ever complained". And then added: "but you have a beautiful lake view". The room's door knobs (closet and bathroom) are hanging and the dirty and unkept corridor including entrance to our room is filthy. The a/c barely working. Still waiting for someone from mainatinance to come. The property is in a great location and sunset view by the lake spectacular. But if you care about cleanliness and half decent accommodations then this is not the place for you.

Yelp
Food Excellent!! Tiffany Excellent !!! Lynn Excellent and Professional!!! Sunset and Dinner Can't ask for More !!!Thank You!!!

Yelp
Stayed here for 3 night - very charming place. However the charm wears off quickly when there is no hot water in your room. I mentioned it to the front desk the first day and was told it was probably just the time of day - it was 3 pm. Yet still no hot water at noon one day or 9 am the next. Kind of room temperature with shots of cold intermittently. I mentioned it again on check out so they could look at it was just told - oh we are sorry. Kind of feel they have heard this before. For $200 a night we were also not expecting furniture that appeared to come from a thrift store or side of the road. We did have breakfast at the inn one day and it was very good - waitress was great. All staff was very nice. Will definitely visit area again but probably not stay here.

Yelp
We had dinner tonight to celebrate my wife's birthday. They were out of the Rib Eye, Beef Tips and table beside us were told the Salmon was spoiled. They were also out of corn. My wife ordered the Filet and Lobster Tail. The lobster was so salty we couldn't eat it. After telling our waitress Tiffany, no response from the kitchen... Great view and gorgeous grounds, enjoy but eat elsewhere.

Irene C.

Yelp
Super friendly day staff - front desk, maintenance and housekeepers. Our room was super clean, considering how old it is. Nice lobby but would be better if they had cold water available. We had to switch rooms first night due to flying insects- it is an all wood structure so it's amazing that we didn't run into more. And I wouldn't have minded but they kept landing on my face as I tried to sleep. The second room was great without those visitors. The pool was dirty, even after being cleaned with a thick grey scum along the tile edge. Yes I would return- and I used the pool anyway! We were there 1st week of June and it was very quiet and relaxing

Yelp
Stopped in on a Saturday for lunch. In fairness it was 2:20 and they close the kitchen at 2:30, which makes sense because the city was busy but this place was a ghost town and now I know why...the chicken on my salad was inedible chewy, my wife has the chicken pot pie said it was okay, my son had the salmon it was adequate. We would not return. There are other places to eat in Mt Dora and that must be where everyone else was.

Rose-Marie Probst S.

Yelp
Attentive staff, but one of the registration persons needs a lot of training. You are paying dearly to stay at a historic hotel on a beautiful lake. You get the feel of a bygone era with huge veranda, dark wooden flooring, pub-like lounge, and period furnishings. But be prepared for worn furniture and rugs and many places needing scrubbing and painting. I was afraid to walk to my room, since the outside entrance was dirty moldy and needed painting. They do not tell you there are no elevators and had to kill a cockroach during the day. Very disappointed, but the breakfast was delish on the veranda.

Yelp
The Lakeside Inn in Mount Dora, Florida, has a rich history dating back to 1883. Originally known as the Alexander House, it was a simple two-story wooden structure with a handful of rooms for travelers passing through town. However, as the town grew, so did the Inn. It underwent several renovations, including the addition of a third floor and the construction of a grand veranda overlooking Lake Dora. Throughout its history, the Lakeside Inn has hosted many notable guests, including President Calvin Coolidge and Thomas Edison. The Inn has also been the setting for many important events, such as the signing of the Mount Dora Agreement in 1922, which established the town's first zoning laws. Today, the Lakeside Inn continues to be a beloved landmark in Mount Dora. It's a popular destination for travelers who appreciate its historic charm and picturesque setting. The town itself is known for its natural beauty, with lush greenery and sparkling lakes in every direction. Visitors can enjoy scenic boat rides on Lake Dora, explore the nearby nature trails, or simply relax on the Inn's veranda with a book and a refreshing drink. In addition to its natural beauty, Mount Dora is also known for its thriving art scene. The town is home to many galleries and studios showcasing the work of local artists. The Mount Dora Center for the Arts hosts regular exhibitions and workshops, and the annual Mount Dora Arts Festival is a highlight of the year for many residents and visitors alike. Whether you're a fan of traditional paintings or contemporary sculpture, you're sure to find something to inspire you in Mount Dora. I know I certainly enjoyed it when I was there.

Yelp
We had dinner in the Tremaine room. I had the starter steak in a red wine reduction with mushrooms. It was more than enough for my dinner and it was delicious served medium rare. My friend had the entree portion of chicken Florentine with fingerling potatoes which was also excellent. The service was prompt and the atmosphere was quite elegant- old Florida style. Dress is casual. We each had a glass of wine and the bill was under $70. Can't wait to go back again.

Yelp
Every time we go to Mount Dora, we stop at Lakeside Inn. We don't stay at this Inn. We simply sit by the lake in the beach chairs and watch the view of the water and wait for the sunset. There's never a time in Mount Dora without this perfect spot. It's a must do if you love that type of scenery. You can see birds and wildlife too. This is a place to take a boat ride and we once also saw a small airplane picking up a bride and groom here. It's a perfect peaceful happy spot & it always reminds me of Dirty Dancing. It wasn't filmed here, but I feel like it reminds me of how it looked in the movie.

Steve P.

Yelp
We stayed 2 nights at the Lakeside Inn. Great location, very clean, great view of the lake. Short walk to town with lots of shopping and dining options. The pool was beautiful! Our room was quiet and comfortable. We had breakfast and lunch right at the inn, both were excellent, and service was top notch. The bartender Lauren was very personable and makes a great Manhattan! We would recommend anyone going to Mt Dora to stay at the Lakeside Inn.

Yelp
I ate here yesterday during the craft fair and I absolutely loved it! Such a charming atmosphere and restaurant with a great selection of food. My server, Alex, was very knowledgeable and sweet! The spinach salad I had was amazing and came with a perfect portion size. Eating and viewing the nice sights through the giant windows was magical

Chores G.

Yelp
Very dirty bathroom and windows. great view. Got locked inside room due to broken handle. No answer from desk when called for help. After knocking on the door from inside the room calling for help, a maid was able to open the door, we taped the handle lock and just used the upper locks. Accidently left medical machine and records. Called the day we checked out and again 2 days later. Got no response to my voicemails. it is in such disrepair. My second visit there and I am sorely disappointed. NEVER AGAIN!! Would not recommend ever!

Jeannine L.

Yelp
Just beautiful! Well taken care of historic property. Rate was reasonable. Room was perfect. View was outstanding! Personnel were all very kind and accommodating. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
In a world where things are changing faster than the speed of light, it's oftentimes comforting to know there are still plenty of old-time historic places that exist out there. Take Lakeside Inn, a historical hotel situated right on the water's edge of Mount Dora.in Fernandina Beach, for instance. Opened for business in 1883 it's one of the oldest surviving hotels in Florida. Best of all its age-old historic charm remains in tact with its huge porch, rocking chairs and gorgeous views. I dropped the extra bucks and took their best room on the water's edge. The view from it over Lake Dora was breathtakingly beautiful. But the interior of the room was really dated when it came to electrical outlets, furniture and lighting. I had to unplug the small refrigerator as it moaned and groaned loudly, had to unscrew some light bulbs in order to use an electrical outlet that only worked the with the lights on. And, sort of worse, the room had a rather old moldy like smell to it. The hotel restaurant and food is very good with the Beauclaire Dining Room being rather elegant but the best is the Veranda or front porch as it has the best charm and atmosphere. Tremain's Tavern has a super old world gentlemen's club like atmosphere offering light fare and nightly live entertainment. Being there is a five-star experience but staying there or rating the rooms, I can only say, OK, three stars.
google avatar

Kathy W.

Yelp
How does this place have such low stars!? We enjoyed it very much, the rooms reminded me of my childhood home. The dated rooms and bathrooms and property was so nice to me. An actual key and not a key card? Awesome! Food was delicious. They even have like 7 deaf/hearing impaired cleaning crew members which I appreciate as I have deaf parents myself. The lake view was breathtaking. By 9, everyone is gone to their rooms, it's nice and quiet.

Yelp
To think this is one of the last Victorian type hotels since 1883 in Florida is mind-blowing. I'm going to start off with all my likes... The hotel is absolutely gorgeous, and the grounds are kept immaculate. Drive in takes you immediately to the past. You see the expanse lawn and just picture families from the past sitting around having picnics or just lounging reading a book or bird watching. Lakeside Inn's front porch lined with rocking chairs is awesome. We sat there several times just admiring the view of the lawn, pool, and lake. When you enter the lobby, you are greeted by the Victorian charm with hardwood floors, wood decor, and patterned furniture. The hotel room keys are in this beautiful cubbied hutch, no digital keys here. There are restaurants and bar options in the hotel, so you don't have to venture out if you don't want to. I would recommend you to leave the hotel at some point. Lol. You are in walking distance of pretty much everything in historic Mount Dora. The location of the hotel is great! Here are some of my dislikes, which led me to not give this hotel five stars.... I know the hotel was built in 1883, and it is a part of history, which is a big part of why I chose this location. Buuuuuttt, I did not enjoy the dank smell of the room when we entered. The room is very simple with a vintage type dresser and nightstand with a headboard attached to the wall (which isn't a complaint). The actual mattress was a big complaint for me.... I don't know if this mattress is from 1883 but might as well be. It was so uncomfortable that I did not sleep well the whole trip. The bed was squeaky and annoying. I believe there is a way we can keep the hotel vintage and still be comfortable for modern living. With my next point, I want to state I did not feel unsafe while staying here but considered the safety otherwise. The entrance into the buildings is open and does not lock. The room doors have a deadbolt lock, another door lock, as well as a chain lock. Personally, I don't like the fact that someone can walk into the building even though the room is secured. Overall, I am happy I stayed here for historical reasons. As stated, the grounds are amazing, and the location is perfect, hands down. However, I may be a comfort snob, so i will not stay here again until some renos are made on the rooms.

Amber S.

Yelp
Friendly bar staff but neglected pool bar. The bar seating area is filthy, not with trash, but with dead bugs smashed on every inch of the railing and frames. The saving grace is the view of the lake.

Robert H.

Yelp
I would recommend the hotel for the stay. Which is beautiful. However the food is nothing spectacular. The steak and lobster had little or no seasoning and both were chewy. The Caesar salad also had no flavor. The service was great. It was a nice and quiet time.

Kimi Z.

Yelp
The room was ok. Not good but not terrible. What WAS terrible was the way that they handled our friends' request for a handicap accessible room due to his still recovering from knee surgery. The room could only be reached by 2 flights of stairs. The replacement they offered had a much smaller bed and smelled strongly of mildew. It broke my heart that our bride and groom had to deal with this situation the day before their wedding. On a separate note: they do not stock any sparkling wine that is not the bar bubbly (primarily meant for mixing, based on the taste) because 'it is too expensive for our guests'. Pretty views could not make up for this.

Mary Taylor T.

Yelp
Saw an amazing roaring 20s cabaret show last night. It was fantastic. I can't wait to go again. Food was very good and service was excellent.

Yelp
Our first visit to this lovely town. We strolled the streets, shopped a bit, had some coffee and eventually worked our way over to the Inn for lunch. Our group of four chose an outdoor seat on the expansive front porch, with great views to the lake, and a cool breeze on this beautiful day. The setting is five star. The food was a solid four stars. My leek and potato soup was good...but...large ump potatoes - not blended. More like a potato chowder. Curious. The crab cake was delicious. Might have been even tastier if the remoulade ever made it to the table! The service, well that's a whole other matter. Orders taken but the changes we requested (like no bun, and a sauce on the side) were not executed. And the time from visit to visit by our laid back waitress was immeasurable. She'd deliver one thing then say "oh I forgot the sauce (again)" and it would be another 5 minutes before she returned. Finished before the remoulade arrived. We waited at least 15 minutes for her to bring the requested check. Great spot for lunch. Bring extra patience. Now I know it was a Sunday and maybe regular staff was not in, but the service was disappointing. Would try another spot in town before returning and sacrifice the view.

Yelp
I came to Mt.Dora because I had business in the morning near by and I did not want to drive 2.5 hours in the morning, so I chose to do it the night before. With that in mind, a friend of mine recommend the Lakeside Inn as a place to stay, I decided to take her suggestion. I got a 1 queen bed room, it was just above the check-in desk with a view of the lake that was absolutely sublime. The colors of the room, a bright teal blue and lime green were lively and in some places in need of touch up. The bed was amazing. It was soft, dense memory foam that cradled you comfortably. It provided a wonderful night sleep. The bathroom was small. The shower/tub combo was so tiny, it was positively cute. I think I've only seen one smaller and that was in New Orleans. The old fashioned keyed entry was both quaint and sometimes cumbersome, still I did like it. Over all, the room was wonderfully clean. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
In 1882 the idea for an inn was developed by prominent Mount Dora citizens John Alexander, John and Annie Donnelly and Colonel John McDonald. The group felt that the city needed a hotel in order to house guests and grow the city. The two story, 10 room Alexander House opened in 1883 on the east shore of Lake Dora and was run by Ms. Emma Boone who arrived from Boston in 1884. By 1897 train service to Mount Dora was established and the hotel quickly became a popular winter retreat for hunters, fishermen, and boaters. In 1893 the partners sold the hotel to Ms. Boone who changed the name to the Lake House. In 1903 Emma Boone married George Thayer of Boston and the two formed the Lakeside Hotel Company and changed the hotel's name to the Lakeside Inn. The couple increased the size of the hotel adding a three story section and a two story section. Emma passed away in 1909 and her husband sold the hotel in 1924 to a group of investors. More improvements were made to the hotel in the 1930's and notable visitors to included Presidents Coolidge and Eisenhower, Thomas Edison, and Henry Ford. The hotel was sold several more times and fell on hard times in the 1980's and 1990's. In 1987 the inn was added to the National Register of Historic Places. A rescue operation saved it from the wrecking ball in 1985 but the renovations proved to overwhelming and it was sold at a sheriffs auction in 1990. Current owners Jim and Alexandra Gunderson, purchased the Lake side Inn in 2010 and have been steadily renovating the 87 guest rooms. They are dedicated to preserving the hotel's 130 year old history. The Lakeside Inn is the last of the Grand Victorian Era Hotels still remaining in Central Florida. As soon as you step on the property you feel like you have stepped back in time. The inn is only steps from all of the restaurants and shops in historic Mount Dora. There are five buildings located on the property with a pool and bar overlooking Lake Dora. You can stay at the inn, dine at the Beauclaire Dining Room or Tremains Lounge, book a boat or seaplane ride, shop at the Gatehouse Gift Gallery, or host an event like a wedding. Guests enjoy sitting on the rocking chairs lining the 200 foot veranda. Even if you are not staying overnight in the hotel, this beautiful historic inn is worth a stop when you visit Mount Dora.

Yelp
Went for breakfast on Friday, the food is mediocre at best and incredibly overpriced. Inside dining room is bland, our table ate breakfast in an empty room with a few tables in dead silence. It felt like I was eating in a conference room of a retirement home. It was not worth the reservation or drive we made out to Mount Dora or the $120 spent.

Irene C.

Yelp
I would give it -1... after we turned lights off to sleep - room was filled with flying bugs that started landing on us. we had to switch rooms and no one available to help us move. Front desk staff couldn't care at all.

Yelp
Visited Mt Dora for a weekend get away. I chose not to stay at the hotel, due to previous pictures and reviews. However, I stopped by the Inn and had some drinks over looking the pool and lake. The location is simply unmatched. Beautiful to have a meal at their restaurant, or a drink overlooking the lake. There are boat rides departing from their location to go around the lake. Very beautiful!!!

The hotel looked nice on the outside, so I wanted to stay here for the longest time until we finally did. The lobby area is nice, but the room? OMG! Small and less than basic. We even had to ask for a refrigerator. The bathroom was outdated and the door didn't close all the way. The bed was horrendous! It made noise and one morning, when my husband and I were getting ready, we both sat at the foot of the bed and the bed almost came flying from the other end. The hallway and the room were smelly, that's probably because they allow pets in the hotel. The restaurant had good breakfast, but our dinner was mediocre to say the least. We're definitely not going back.

Yelp
Look, nice location to walk to downtown, rooms were nice, ac was great. No smoking areas that we ever found, most outdoor areas were marked no smoking, I just went down to have a cigar by the lake, but NO ashtrays or anything. No umbrellas around the pool, no way to sit in this heat around the pool. No refrigerator in rooms or microwave, so the wonderful meals you pay out the nose for in town you have to just not take it home. Won't be back.

Yelp
We stayed here pre-COVID for a running marathon that took place in the area. It was easy to book online and check-in was simple. It's an old building and the set-up can be a bit clunky with different stairways leading to various areas of the hotel. But they have decent signage and it's easy enough to navigate. I love that they have restaurant / bar onsite as well as a few shops. You can enjoy porch service with drinks as well, which is great during sunset on the water. You can also easily walk to historic downtown Mount Dora and all the amazing shops and restaurants in the immediate area. There is also a dock with boat tours that run regularly during sunset hours - but if you're there during holiday times, definitely try to book a holiday lights boat tour, it's excellent. Overall: B Solid hotel in a great location in historic Mount Dora. Historic vibe with stunning views.

Yelp
oh where do I start with this one????? Likes: I adore historic buildings and this 1883 Victorian hotel and its other lakefront homes added to the Inn over time have beautiful grounds! There is a lovely front porch with rocking chairs that we were able to sit and watch the sunset and the evening breeze was wonderful! It is close to everything you would need and can walk to. We did not use our car the entire time, until we left. Dislikes: I feel like a business can maintain the history of a place but also keep it in great condition as well as add some modern conveniences. For example, the porch ceiling and sides of the buildings were COVERED in bugs. The 2nd day that we were there a groundskeeper had a dust mop and was going at the bugs in one area---NO WAY that was going to work, bless his heart! IMO, this is a job that needs to be done daily in order to keep it under control. It is very unsightly! The rooms are very outdates. I dont mean they have victorian furniture--which would be charming--I mean they have thrift store furniture from the 70's. The bed was a complete disaster!! Im pretty sure it was the mattress from 1883!! It was HORRIBLE!! It was very squeaky and so uncomfortable we didnt sleep at all. There were also 2 caracasses of dead bugs in the stitching of the bed....FREAKED ME OUT!! Thankfully as hard as I searched I couldnt see any alive ones in any of the bed, pillows, etc. The rooms needed a good cleaning, painting, and better cared for. The sink glub glub glubbed, and I felt so bad for the people below us as our floor also creaked with every step. The worst thing though was that our neighbors bathroom was right by our heads while in bed!! There was a connecting door that had been permanently closed up (with paint???) and when they arrived they tried desperately to open it until my husband said--"May I help you?" They realized it was to our room. But we could hear them as if in the same room, use the bathroom, brush teeth, take a shower, etc. VERY VERY AWKWARD!!!! A WISE BUSINESS OWNER wouldve removed the door and sealed up the space with drywall and thick insulation. It is ridiculous that little things are not being taken care of yet they keep purchasing more homes to convert, when they arent even caring properly for the ones they have! I hate to use this term but we left feeling like we had an experience from SLUMLORDS!!! The outside of the Inn gives a completely different perspective of what is REALLY going on in the inside!!! SAD, we will not return to this property.

Yelp
(This is for the hotel - not the dining.) The architecture, grounds, and views are absolutely stunning. The staff were kind and helpful, trying their best to help me in every way they could. But even for a 140-year old hotel, this is not in good shape. Rugs were filthy (I was in more than one room) and damp on the ground floor. The mattresses were like a lumpy, ancient camp cot. Bedding was also like the minimal blanket you would expect in a kids camp. In short, the rooms were like a bad, cheap motel. And if you are a very heavy sleeper, you might be okay-- the rooms were extremely noisy-- you hear everything through the old doors. I hope this beautiful property decides to renovate. They have several buildings, so could start one building, one floor at a time-- I hope they do! In short: do enjoy a drink at the bars, or a lovely brunch on the veranda, but think before staying here overnight.

Yelp
Great location, friendly staff, nice rooms. Christine was so sweet, she provided us a complimentary bottle of wine for our 32 wedding anniversary.

Yelp
A gorgeous historical hotel situated right on the waters edge of Mount Dora. Today we had a bar meal sat on the wrap around porch outside and watched the sun going down. The service was friendly and efficient. My husband and I both ordered a burger and fries. Mine came with blue cheese and was delicious. His was a cheese burger with bacon. If you visit Mount Dora you MUST come to visit this historical hotel. Make sure you go inside the hotel especially to see the foyer and the dining / bar room, beautiful decor in line with the era. The grounds are also gorgeous aswell. Here is some information I found out about it from the internet - The Historic Lakeside Inn, Located in the Heart of the Mount Dora Historic District, Overlooking Lake Dora, Opened in 1883, is the Oldest Continuously Operated Hotel in the State of Florida. As one passes through the stone entry gates one quickly enters an unique place, distinct from any other Florida destination. Viewing the beautifully landscaped grounds and the collection of cheery yellow and white buildings, all overlooking Lake Dora, one is aware instantly of the historic significance of this classic and lovely Inn.The 134-year-old Lakeside Inn is not just another typical Florida hotel, it stands as a landmark to Florida tourism. Built in 1883, Lakeside Inn is the oldest continuously-operating hotel in the State of Florida. The Civil War had only ended eighteen years previously and the South was rebuilding. People of means were traveling once again and for those in the cold northern states, the lure of sunshine and warmer weather was as much of a draw then as it is today. It was the Victorian Era and leisure activities like bird watching, fishing, picnics and reading were all the rage. During this era, this Central Florida Lakes Region became an extremely popular destination and, thus, hotels and resorts began appearing in every town and around every lake. The first guests to travel to Lakeside Inn, then called the Alexander House, were true pioneers, since the typical journey from New York would take approximately a week. Most guests would arrive by lake steamer from Jacksonville through the Harris Chain of Lakes and the Dora Canal, as rail service to Mount Dora was still years away. The Roaring 20's saw Henry Flagler establish rail service down the entire east coast of Florida, all the way to Key West. Large, luxurious hotels were built and the allure of the Central Florida Lakes Region declined, so many hotels and resorts suffered. The Great Depression soon followed leading to the demise of still many more. Eventually, one-by-one, each met its own unique fate due to neglect, fires or redevelopment of the real estate. Lakeside Inn is the last remaining Victorian Era hotel still standing here in Central Florida. Many prominent and historic figures have appreciated the gracious comfort of Lakeside Inn over the years. After the completion of his presidency in 1929, President Calvin Coolidge and his wife Grace chose Lakeside Inn for a month-long vacation from the New England winter (January 11 - February 12, 1930) and remain, to this day, the most distinguished of the Inn's guests. When not fishing, boating or picking local oranges, they relaxed on the grand veranda rocking chairs and watched stunning sunsets over Lake Dora as guests do today. Lakeside Inn was also the film set for the 1981 John Schlesinger movie, Honky Tonk Freeway. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the venerable Lakeside Inn is the oldest continuously-operated hotel in the State of Florida. The Inn is privately-held and the current owners are committed to its restoration and preservation. Lakeside Inn currently features 90 comfortably-appointed guest rooms and suites, The Beauclaire Room for dining, Tremain's Tavern with its weekly schedule of great entertainment and classic cocktail menu, the Sunset Pool Bar and The Gatehouse, a shop featuring an enticing array of local art, crafts and select indigenous Central Florida gift items. Lakeside Inn also offers a variety of indoor function rooms and picturesque outdoor venues perfect for hosting a wide variety of social and business events.

Yelp
We had a fun time at the Lakeside Inn, steeping in the history and atmosphere, enjoying the breeze from the big porch, and eating a nice meal. It isn't a business hotel so adjust your expectations - you will search for an outlet to charge your phone, and you will be just fine. If you want a small-town charming getaway, enjoy this spot and its community of Mount Dora.

Yelp
Horrible room. Heavy odor of some sort. A cross between moth balls and not sure what I was smelling. Windows painted shut so no relief. Had to go one flight down to use a bathroom as ours did not flush. Shower was falling apart. Floors were not clean. Room 7225 on 12/23. Evelyn Anderson

Yelp
Love this little gem of Mt Dora. Stayed two nights over the weekend. Just know that this is an old hotel that has been in business for over 100 years. Plumbing, heating, water pressure are all remnants of it's age. It smells like an old antique shop, and the sounds of the old creaky hardwood floors remind you of days gone by. we had king size bed suite with bath tub shower and toilet that was literally 14 inches high. This type of historic hotel may not be for everyone. Romm and bathroom or equally clean. The Inn is near everything within walking distance of the main downtown Mt. Dora area. The Inn also has a restaurant, bar and swimming pool right next to the lake with lakeside views of sunrises and sunsets. I plan to stay again in this very historic Inn on our next trip to Mount Dora, highly recommend.

Yelp
Stayed 2 days this past weekend with lady friend. Old hotel and it looks and feels it. Part of the old Florida vibe to it which I enjoyed. Room was fine. AC and ceiling fan worked great. Checkin/out was easy. Friday night hotel bar for dinner. Split a hamburger and salad. Wanted a Coors Light bottle. No, only Budweiser products. Went with Crown rocks. The woman on the piano was entertaining with requests. Views are fantastic. Right on the edge of town for easy walking to shops and eats. Grounds are well kept. Mount Dora and the Lakeside Inn makes for a great stay.

Yelp
I had drinks and a late lunch at the bar off the lobby. The burger was extremely greasy! The bartender in Monday late afternoon was as cold as ice. The bar, itself, had more personality. On Sunday around the sane time I ordered a drink. The bartender had more personality, but instead of serve me, she finished taking inventory and talking to an employee. I had to ask for a menu. I had better service at the local restaurants. The bar itself is nicely decorated, but the service is definitely NOT first class/five star, not even four!

Yelp
Historic shouldn't be an excuse for just no upkeep. I'll just echo a few of the points from other reviews: 1) rooms are not cleaned well. VERY STICKY carpet floors, left over medicine in the medicine cabinet, gross stains on the molding. 2) the smell of cleaner fighting mold on the upper floors. Also, if someone uses the restroom above you and your room is connected to their plumbing you get to smell it! 3) dated appliances in the room. The building can remain historic but that doesn't mean you should keep the same alarm clock 20 years ago which is covered in dust and stains. 4) some staff are really indifferent to just about everything, not rude, just don't expect much Overall, you pay for location and that's why it gets 1 star. Another star for the manager who helped my friend who had to switch rooms two times before they found her one that didn't have people in it. If you dig historic hotels and can look pass the massive neglect of the overall building.... Then this is the spot for you

Yelp
I've enjoyed myself every time I stop in.. It may be for coffee & breakfast on front deck, meeting friends in lobby, the cozy bar for drinks & a bit, as well as enjoying the Poolside bar.. whatever I fancy for that day!

Yelp
I completed the survey for the hotel but sure there will be no changes as the new owners have been in place for 12 years. The hotel is worn and the room smells of mold and mildew. While you can preserve the timeless beauty of a historical place they have not done so and our 300 dollar a night room was full of chipped paint and missing grout. To make matters worse the linens were aged and faded as were the towels. Our toiletries were opened and half empty. While the porch is welcoming and the main common area nice that does not make up for the very poor quality rooms. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
