Tombs and springtime blooms in Delhi’s Nizamuddin - SilverKris

"An elegant, formerly overgrown monument set on a raised 2.5m platform with arched openings on four sides and richly ornamented interiors featuring Quranic verses carved in plaster; once thought haunted by locals, it now sits amid a blooming rose garden with lotus fountains and scented spring plantings, forming a romantic and restorative garden destination." - Geetanjali Krishna

Lakkar Wala Burj is a Historical monument situated inside the Mehrauli Archaeological Park. It is built on top of a raised platform and has four entries. There are interconnected rooms inside the structure. It is not a mausoleum and basis the architectural design we can come to a conclusion that it must have been a residence for a royal member in the Mughal era. Ticket is required for entrance to the Park and it has Wheelchair Accessible entrance and wheelchair accessible washrooms for both genders.

16th Century, Mughal period Built atop a high arcaded plinth, this lofty mausoleum is entered through lofty arches in each of its four facades. A vaulted chamber was built abutting the western archway in the Mughal era itself possibly to serve as residence for a caretaker. The monument is profusely ornamented with exquisite incised plasterwork on both the exterior and interior surfaces. Polychrome geometric patterns, muqarnas and calligraphic verses embellish the interior of the tomb.

A beautiful world heritage monument sitting in a lush rose garden. Very pretty, very peaceful and very tranquil experience. Surrounded by a large lake and beautiful pavilions. Built atop a high arcaded plinth, this lofty domed mausoleum is entered through lofty arches in each of its four facades. A vaulted chamber was built abutting the western archway, in the Mughal-era itself, possibly to serve as a residence for a caretaker. The monument is profusely ornamented with exquisite incised plasterwork on both the exterior and interior surfaces; polychrome geometric patterns, muqarnas and calligraphic verses embellish the interiors of the tomb. Major conservation works were required to be undertaken on the structure to ensure authenticity of material, prior to its inclusion within the World Heritage Site.

It’s a quiet and beautiful place inside the sunder nursery at it’s extreme west edge. Entry to sunder nursery (entry fees Rs 40) will take you to this gumbad and few other Mughal era structures. The nursery has its own parking and restaurant. It’s a well laid out park for picnic n games with the glitter of history
