Lalguan Mahadev temple

This temple, situated 603 m. west of the Chausath yogini Temple is built on the bank of an old lake, called Lalguan-sagar. The lake has long disappeared and temple is in bad shape. It is a structure of modest size and design, roofed by a dilapidated pyramidal superstructure of receding tiers of pidhas. Its entrance-porch has completely disappeared and the doorway is plain but for a diamond carved on the door-still. This temple shares the plan and design with the Brahma temple and belongs to the transitional phase when sandstone was introduced but granite had not ceased to be used. लालगुवा महादेव मंदिर का निर्माण लगभग 900 ई.पू. का माना जा सकता है। यह चौसठ योगिनी मंदिर के बाद खजुराहो में दूसरा सबसे पुराना जीवित मंदिर है । दोनों मंदिर ग्रेनाइट से बने हैं । ऐसा लगता है कि मंदिर का निर्माण उस काल में हुआ था जब बलुआ पत्थर (खजुराहो के अन्य मंदिरों में प्रयुक्त) का उपयोग शुरू हो रहा था, लेकिन ग्रेनाइट का उपयोग पूरी तरह से बंद नहीं हुआ था। लालगुवा मंदिर एक झील के किनारे बनाया गया था, जिसे अब लालगुवा सागर कहा जाता है। खजुराहो के बाद के मंदिरों की तुलना में, यह आकार में छोटा और डिजाइन में सादा है। इसकी योजना और डिजाइन पास के ब्रह्मा मंदिर के समान है। इसकी छत पिरामिड के आकार की है। द्वार पर एकमात्र नक्काशी हीरे की आकृति की है। मंदिर अब खंडहर में है: इसके गर्भगृह का घुमावदार टॉवर गिर गया है, और प्रवेश द्वार गायब हो गया है। इमारत को भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण द्वारा राष्ट्रीय महत्व के स्मारक के रूप में वर्गीकृत किया गया है । खजुराहो स्मारक समूह के हिस्से के रूप में , मंदिर को 1986 में यूनेस्को की विश्व विरासत सूची में अंकित किया गया था।
