I usually hesitate to leave negative reviews, understanding their potential impact on businesses, but I feel compelled to share my experience at Restaurant Amandier, which advertises itself as the best in Fes.
To begin with, the atmosphere was disappointing. It felt rather pretentious with a lack of thoughtful details, like fake plants. There was a more elegant section of the restaurant, but we were told it was fully booked, and that we would be served the same food as in the less appealing area where we were seated.
The service was interesting; the waiter repeatedly referred to me as "the lady," which amused us. While the staff was polite and friendly, the starters and soup were just average. We ordered skewers as our main course, which arrived right after the starters. Unfortunately, they were served on wooden sticks alongside a large portion of yellow, pre-boiled rice.
The meat was tough and dry, and some skewers were cold in the center, indicating they had been pre-cooked and reheated. When we mentioned this to the waiter, he called the manager over. The manager insisted that the food wasn't preheated but offered us a "surprise" instead—a complimentary dessert.
After considering, we kindly declined and requested the bill. They did not charge us for the main course we couldn’t eat, which was appreciated. They also promised to provide us with tea, but instead of five glasses for our group, they only brought two.
When we tried to get a taxi home, the staff at the five-star Palais Faraj hotel were unable to find one for us, so we ended up walking back. Overall, our experience was far from what we expected from a restaurant that claims to be the best in the area.
