"Chill on Coral Beach at Sunset This west-facing beach may appear to be white sand at a glance, but your bare feet will quickly discover that it's made of corse shards of coral, so watch your step. Rough edges aside, this beach is seldom visited (some people may have been known to camp on it) and is an excellent place to enjoy the sunset with a few Taiwan Beer and good company."

The sun-kissed sands and the turquoise waters of the island welcomed me warmly. Being a solo traveler, I found myself embracing the freedom to explore at my own pace. I spent my birthday wandering through the vibrant local markets and soaking in the unique culture. Delicious, fresh seafood became the star of my celebratory dinner. The mesmerizing sunset painted the sky with hues of orange and pink, offering a perfect backdrop. I reflected on the incredible journey, filled with self-discovery and adventure. It was an unforgettable experience, and I will cherish the memory forever.

There are lots of great online resources for foreigners visiting this island but I’ll hit some highlights. It’s great for snorkeling, swimming, beaches, and biking around. But at least in the summer it is very hot and very crowded. You need to be extremely patient with other people and with the public transportation. The ferry is good but we couldn’t get on the return ferry we wanted as it filled up. It was fine but only because we were flexible and patient and got on the next one. You can get a round trip ticket at the port—someone will approach you with tickets for sale as soon as you walk up. They’re legit and will make sure you get the right tickets. I recommend renting an electric bike on the island. JGogo is the only company I know of but they are great. You need an international driving permit for the mopeds but not e-bikes, which go nearly as fast. You can traverse the whole island that way, except a couple steeper hills in the middle. I think it took under an hour to bike around the whole thing, but of course you’ll want to stop a lot. The good snorkeling spots fill up with guided groups in the afternoon so go in the morning. Secret Beach and Beauty Beach are both good. Do some research to ensure you have a plan and backup plan to get onward transport after arriving back on the main island. We were lucky enough to make the bus to the HSR station but many were not. It took just over an hour after a 40 minute wait. There was lots of traffic so a car would have taken the same amount of time, though granted we’d have left a little sooner. If you can get a seat on the bus, it’s worth it. Inexpensive, quite comfortable (it’s one of the big tour coaches with nice big seats), and direct to the HSR. If you aren’t near the front of the line, there probably won’t be room on the bus, which only come every 30-60 minutes. The taxis might work but could be more trouble than they’re worth. You won’t have any trouble finding one though. Do your own research for that. Good luck and have fun! With a little patience it won’t be hard to!

The best place to spend your summer in Taiwan! The water is super clean and crystal clear. There are a lot of tourists, so renting a scooter to explore all the island’s attractions is a great idea.

Of all my Taiwan trips, spending a few days here was one of the most relaxing and fun of all. Beach sunrise in the morning and beach sunset in the evening - what is not to like? Spend a night for sure though.

A wonderful Island I will surely visit again sometime cooler. The heat is both amazing and intimidating. You can get some good food here and do some scuba diving as well. Hiking is also popular, strolling around the port and bay is very memorable. As it’s close to the Taiwan island, you don’t have to worry about spending too much money here, most things are as affordable as it is in Taiwan. To get here however, you have to take a 30mins boat trip from Donggang in pindong.

One of the best places in the world to see wild turtles. We encountered 20+ in the 3 days we're there.

Why isn't this destination advertised? This is one of the most scenic areas of Taiwan. It has everything all in 1 small area. Very scenic, walk, cycle or scooter around. The water is warm and Crystal clear with an abundance of turtles. Well worth the visit, it's just a 20 minute get ride off the South eastern coast.
