The Old Salt is a Hampton institution. Yes the room is old and dark, and I'm not sure about the food on the regular menu, but the Sunday brunch is pretty darn good, especially for the price. Is this a high end gourmet brunch? No, it is not, but you are also not paying $80-$100pp, the cost here is $30pp. The variety is very good as is the majority of the food on the buffet line. There are all the breakfast basics that you would expect, bacon/eggs/sausage/benedict (and you can order waffles or omelettes which are made to order). Salads, breads and pastries and a number of hot dishes that are pretty good. Salmon pie, Baked Haddock, Chicken Cacciatore, to name a few. They carve turkey, prime rib and have a whole salmon as well. The turkey was cooked perfectly and they have all the sides you would expect like stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, mashed potatoes. They also have two pasta stations, but unless you have this cooked to order, I would pass on the pre made. There are many more dishes available, but I can't recall all of them.
For dessert, the highlight is the chocolate fountain with a variety of fruit and cake bites to dip. There are also a number of cakes/pastries, but I didn't find them to be very special, but then I don't eat too much of those kind of sweets.
Service is fine, some of the servers have been here for a very long time, and we've found them to always be friendly and efficient, checking in, clearing plates, etc...
I would recommend giving the brunch a try.
