A quintessential, New England, coastal bar and restaurant. The ambience makes it. Their oysters are bomb. I always get the scallops and they're always amazing. Been there too many times to count and everyone is lovely. We were charged for a drink that we didn't order but noticed after we left. No big deal but it was obvious that our server was new. The Old Salt will always be a favorite stop!

My dear friends brought me here for dinner last week. The lobster roll was so delicious. So was the lavender cocktail. I also had a taste of the onion soup. The server -- a woman with gorgeous bracelets -- was so very nice. I will warmly remember this place forever.

Google
Needs updating badly. I waited a couple of weeks after our stay so I could compose this reviews without bias. Didn't help. The food is good but the rooms need help. The beds could use new mattresses, better pillows, and better climate control. We couldn't get the temp to a comfortable level for sleeping. ||The bathroom was exceptionally tiny with barely enough room to turn around. No way 2 people could brush their teeth at the same time. Also no exhaust fan in the bathroom so mirrors stayed steamed up after showers. Shower could use a grab bar for safety. Water temp in shower fluctuated while showering. ||Staff was friendly and professional. Breakfast was okay.

Very nice historic inn, big plus is the Old Salt restaurant. Great breakfast. One of the nicest places around the beach that we have stayed at. We have eaten at the restaurant dozens of times but this is the first time we stayed there. We've been going to Hampton Beach for over 50 years and are glad we finally stayed here.

The old tavern and inn was a last minute pick and great surprise. The inn is very quant clean and beds were very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate at the Salt Tavern food was awesome and reasonable ,We had business during the day and relaxed in the lounge in the evening. Over all experience was great , can’t wait til our next visit.

Google
Stopped by on a Friday afternoon for a drink and a snack at the bar. The place was packed and we were lucky to get two seats at the bar. The bartender is a pro. An old school professional! Drinks and food were excellent. Explains why this place has been in business as long as it has.

Google
Dinners were excellent, we had lots of seafood. Continental breakfast (free) was not quite as good, but was very handy because the started at 6AM even on Sunday.

Google
Nice brunch buffett. $29.99 adults, $19.99 kids. 20% gratuity for larger parties. Includes egg station, pancakes, waffles, french toast, turkey, roast beef, bacon, seafood, desserts, and sides

Yelp
The service was n the slow side but was friendly. The lighting is low. The menu is large as was the portion size. The food was really good. Not necessarily on the healthy side but certainly comfort food.

Yelp
I am pretty certain there is not much you can't like about the Old Salt Sunday Buffet. My wife and I have been a couple times but today was really enjoyable. For $29.99 this is truly a great Brunch Buffet which unlike most other places, the price also includes your drinks(nonalcoholic). A great mix of pastries, bread, breakfast foods, lunch foods and desserts. A great carving station and omelette station. The only things I didn't see but were just about the only missing things were: oatmeal, sausage gravy, grits or hash browns. These items may get rotated in or out on given weeks but were the only things I didn't find when I checked the buffet over pretty well three times. We recommend getting reservations ahead of time unless you're are comfortable having brunch in the bar. We did also have mimosas: Cider Mimosa and the Monica. The Monica reminded me of "Sex on the Beach" as a mimosa. The great nostalgia in the bar just oozes a grand collector of quality and odd New England treasures.

Yelp
Thoroughly enjoyed the lobster nachos! Atmosphere is great both in their outdoor seating, but also inside. The building has so much history, we spent half of our experience researching the building and the town itself. Service was great, even with having a packed house. Highly recommend reservations as they fill up quickly. Also, they do special events, so check their schedule!

Yelp
Came here about 5 months ago with a friend and my new puppy. This was Roxy's first dinner at a restaurant so I wanted to find the perfect place that she wouldn't disturb anyone if she was a little naughty. This was the perfect place and she was an angel! I really enjoyed the seafood bisque, it's very rich so one bowl is good to share.

Yelp
Service by Colette was to notch! Love this place and used to live in Hampton so it was my go to! Food 10/10, always fresh and good. Plenty for leftovers.

Yelp
Solid choice. A Hampton falls staple. Old salt. Such a cool atmosphere between all the different rooms. Large menu with something to choose from for everyone. Cool bar area with first come first seating. Support local! Bravo!

Yelp
Had a stellar visit last sunday for brunch with my gf, mother, and her bf. It was phenomenal from start to finish. We ended up seated in the lounge area with plenty of space and not too noisy. The food was great with plenty of options. I enjoyed the belgian waffles, chocolate fountain, and the bacon the most. Ill def be back someday.

Yelp
Wonderful people, homey and cozy, great service and fantastic food. We live in NY and will travel just to come back here. We loved it!!!
google avatar

Yelp
First, the food was absolutely amazing. Everything from the chowder and stew to the GIGANTIC Seafood platter! It says meant for two but 4 people can eat it. The food was not just for looks, but the quality of the clams, shrimp, scallops, and haddock was great. The ambiance is so homey and cozy. Highly recommend to eat inside. Lastly, Lori was our server and she is an angel. She took care of us and went above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing experience. She even provided us a dessert to go. Ask for Lori!
google avatar

Yelp
What can you say. A staple in Hampton for years. Great service, historic atmosphere, friendly hosts. Friday is the day! All you can eat haddock nuggets. Top notch, consistent good food at affordable $. Plus they serve honey butter with their bread..yum!
google avatar

Yelp
We both got the amazing clam chowder Fish and Chips and Fried Clams were perfect too. Cozy bar area. Friendly staff. Played Keno and stumbled upon trivia night too on Tuesday.

Yelp
We went to Theory of Deadman concert at Hampton Beach Casino Friday and Patty picked this place less than 10mi an away.Show up at like 6pm 15 mins wait but host says try the Bar it's open, so we sit right down and we are sitting for like 6 mins wait Patty goes to ladies room and returns with 2 menus and with 2 mins the waitress comes over and said do u want anything to drink so we choose non alcoholic drinks and we order I got scallops wrapped in bacon and Patty got a turkey club. The food came out pretty fast and we only saw the waitress like once later to ask us if we wanted dessert, both of us filled Great place , Great food, the bar area was dated but clean. Ambiance was inn style Thanks

Yelp
The pumpkin pie martini was the bomb...I had the baked sea Scallops, but some were the bay ones they need to clarify better, but was still delicious, my husband had the chicken broccoli ziti with just the right amount of sauce. We had the the loaded homemade chips with cheese and bacon appetizer, but definitely needed more cheese. Overall the meal was good and worth coming back for a second time.

Yelp
Been going here for a long time. Todays meal was disappointing to me. Baked haddock crum topping was awful. Very orange little taste. The other ring I want to mention is the restroom ( ladies). Total mess. 2 stalls and one that the door wouldn't t even close. And people had to hold bottom of the door so it wouldn't swing open. An employee came in so oh! You know it was not working. Saturday at 3-4 so mid day. Going downhill lately. No hurry to go back
google avatar

Rick L.

Yelp
What a complete overpriced disappointment. I remember when this place had quality food. I was there the other night and had onion soup, and a French dip w fries. Although the soup looked good it was less than hot and lacked flavor. The French fries tasted like fish and the French dip roll was soggy. The au jus bowl was hot but the liquid was cold. Validated the fact it was microwaved. Dont waste your money there are better options 60.00 for 2 soups and sandwiches

Yelp
We're staying at the Inn, so we decided to grab an early dinner here. I had chosen this place because of the history and photos looked like it resembled England/Ireland. The dining room is difficult to take photos in. We were seated right away and were served by Faith. We ordered escargot as an appetizer and it came with 4 slices of garlic bread. They also had mozzarella cheese broiled over the top, which we've never had before. Together, it tasted delicious! My son ordered the baked haddock with vegetables de jour (green beans), and mashed potatoes. He enjoyed his meal. I ordered the baked onion soup and apple and walnut salad. I was expecting the apples to not be cooked, but it tasted good. The soup was delicious and had plenty of flare onions and cheese! We shared the mud pie as dessert and it was delicious.

Yelp
We had a delicious dinner at The Old Salt Restaurant. Hubby had crab stuffed haddock with lobster sauce drizzle and I had a wonderful grilled garlic swordfish dinner. Rolls came with a seasonal maple butter, and the sides of green beans and mashed potatoes were great too. Our server was very attentive, checking in with us throughout our dinner. There is also an Inn for accommodations above the first floor (main level) of the restaurant. Down the hall from the restaurant on the first floor, is an inviting bar furnished with tvs to watch your favorite games. So glad we found The Old Salt Restaurant. Can certainly see why it's such a popular local restaurant!

Yelp
Food is very good. I had the early bird special - Steak tips - very tender. Fireplace is very nice. Service is excellent and not overpriced.

Deb D.

Yelp
Charming restaurant and inn, cozy, incredibly friendly welcoming and service. Food is excellent, nachos, shrimp casserole w lobster sauce is heavenly. Rolls w maple butter, great martinis and drinks. Love the vibe and casual atmosphere in the bar restaurant. Stayed overnight and can't wait to come back!

Yelp
We went here today for the Sunday brunch. It was very good with a wide selection, they also had a nice carving station with Prime rib and turkey. We would definitely recommend this place for when you have guests visiting or a nice Sunday morning with someone else doing all the cooking.

Yelp
First, i've been going to the Old Salt restaurant for many many years. It is one of my favorites. The interior is absolutely beautiful, they are decorated for the holidays with a beautiful Christmas tree in the center, which is just lovely. The fireplace is always lit at this time of the year, which makes it warm and inviting. I've always loved their tomato soup, but all their soups are incredible. I ordered takeout this time, but the food was finished very quickly, and everything I ordered was in the bag. I ordered their prime rib, and although I've had it before, it was lacking flavor, but worse, came well done, not rare, so that is why I'm giving it 4 stars not 5. However, I called and spoke to the manager and they took care of it immediately, so their service, as always, is excellent!

Yelp
Nice place full of nostalgia and very cozy as well I sat at the bar and had a Guinness well enjoying the atmosphere I had a maple bacon cheeseburger which was delicious and done just right came with homemade onion rings which were delicious as well the menu was full of everything good from steaks to burgers to fish the clam chowder was yummy also but overall I enjoyed the Old Salt very hospitality and they have a Inn attached to their restaurant so you can get a nice room too
google avatar

Yelp
The Old Salt has been owned by one of the most genuine man I've known. I have never had a bad meal or a bad experience with any of the staff. Services is always been impeccable and the ambience is relaxing. The outside dining in the summer is phenomenal. Also, I love the old salt. And Sunday's brunch yummy yummy yummy.

Yelp
We got an app, I got chowder and things were great: the wife got the lobster BLT and it was amazing. I got the seafood platter and my son got the French dip. The fish and shrimp were great. The clams and scallops were raw. I am picky about over cooked seafood, but this was really just poorly cooked. My son really didn't like the beef in the French dip. I wanted to love this place. I would have if I'd ordered the same meal as my wife. The clam chowder was one of the best I've had. I'm not sure I'll be back. There's just so many places to try. You gotta be good to get me back. The service was very good, and we loved the vibe and decoration inside. It has a Cracker Barrel vibe.

Yelp
We went to the old salt last night for dinner with my friend's puppy. So 5 stars for allowing a puppy on their lovely patio. Not the best view as it is on a busy street but the noises kept the puppy interested. We split the seafood stew with lobster. Delicious and a generous portion with lots of lobster. We also split the baked haddock also a good portion size

Yelp
We have stayed at Lamies 2 years in a row for our anniversary. I reserved in August for September. The room was immaculate, quiet and the canopy over the bed very romantic and the bed itself comfortable. The carpet was clean, no cleanser odor and the bathroom sparkled. We will be back.

Yelp
Everything was great the two times my family has visited this summer. Food is priced well and so flavorful and tasty. The atmosphere is awesome, service was great both times!

Kathy P.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised. Put of towners and happened to be near our hotel Cocktails were delicious as was the food !!

Yelp
Food was fresh and delicious in this cold winter day. Staff was friendly and prompt, facilities were clean. Cozy fireplace and mood lighting were on tap. Stopped into the Inn just to check it out and got a quick tour and history lesson. Loved everything about it; well, except that they were fresh out of coquito which was on the drink menu
google avatar

Richard W.

Yelp
Great place to get seafood or prime rib for all those land lubbers. They also have rooms for the night if you're getting tired from spending the day at the beach.
google avatar

Leo M.

Yelp
Had clam strips which were not really fried well. Not a good experience but the place was extremely busy. Would be willing to give it another chance.
google avatar

Yelp
I have been to The Old Salt restaurant for years and every single time I have excellent service and a delicious meal. Recently I booked Lamie's Inn for my wedding and it was absolutely perfect! We had 50 guests and had plenty of space for dining, dancing and photos. George is dedicated and talented when it comes to events. He is knowledgeable and collaborative which was very comforting during the wedding planning and wedding day! He is a superb day of coordinator and I knew I was in good hands from day 1! We will continue to dine at The Old Salt and will look to Lamie's Inn for any and all future events we have!

Yelp
Waited 20 minutes to see our waitress. Place was empty. Table next to us complaining as well. Wasn't a great experience. Food was great tho ! We have been going to them since they were on the blvd at Hampton. This was a special event for us. We won't go back to celebrate anything. Kinda squashed the mood.

Yelp
Music on the deck (Jerry Short from Maine) was excellent. It is too bad about the constant noise--especially motorcycles who had rudely revved up the noise. It was deafening. I wish the music could be moved to other side of the building. On the food end, I hear the fish and chips were good. The onion rings were great but the Greek salad was pretty sad. Limp greens and tiny cubes of feta with a tired dressing. The waitress was friendly and attentive, but I wish they had taken away our dirty dishes and not just left them and walked away.
google avatar

James W.

Yelp
Enjoyed the fish & chips all you can eat that was offered on Fridays. The fish pieces were served in 4 large pieces. Then ate another platter of fish haddocks chunks and was full. The fish chunks were fresh and lightly fried with a thin batter.Service was good. We had reservations made on Tuesday for 6 PM and luckily we didn't have to wait in line at 5:52 PM. Ambiance was quaint and dated but clean

Yelp
The Old Salt is a Hampton institution. Yes the room is old and dark, and I'm not sure about the food on the regular menu, but the Sunday brunch is pretty darn good, especially for the price. Is this a high end gourmet brunch? No, it is not, but you are also not paying $80-$100pp, the cost here is $30pp. The variety is very good as is the majority of the food on the buffet line. There are all the breakfast basics that you would expect, bacon/eggs/sausage/benedict (and you can order waffles or omelettes which are made to order). Salads, breads and pastries and a number of hot dishes that are pretty good. Salmon pie, Baked Haddock, Chicken Cacciatore, to name a few. They carve turkey, prime rib and have a whole salmon as well. The turkey was cooked perfectly and they have all the sides you would expect like stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, mashed potatoes. They also have two pasta stations, but unless you have this cooked to order, I would pass on the pre made. There are many more dishes available, but I can't recall all of them. For dessert, the highlight is the chocolate fountain with a variety of fruit and cake bites to dip. There are also a number of cakes/pastries, but I didn't find them to be very special, but then I don't eat too much of those kind of sweets. Service is fine, some of the servers have been here for a very long time, and we've found them to always be friendly and efficient, checking in, clearing plates, etc... I would recommend giving the brunch a try.

Yelp
This has always been one of my go to places when I would visit my cousin . I had a haddock sandwich was very bland and my cousin got the steak tips she enjoyed them with mashed potatoes. I had a fish platter last time and it was very greasy . I do love the atmosphere and their rolls with Maple butter . The menu had a few changes but it's got a good variety enjoy . Thanks Chris M from Ct

Yelp
We ate in the pub, it has the same menu as the restaurant. It's casual and lively, with joyful servers. We both enjoyed a haddock dinner one stuffed the other baked. I highly recommend Old Salt and Lamie's Inn.

Diane S.

Yelp
We haven't been to the brunch In a long time, we went last weekend with our daughter and her family. Plenty of food to choose from. My only issue is nothing was labeled? You had to open every hot plate to look inside to see what it was. Our waitress was very friendly. Also $19 for children 6 and above is a bit high. Our grandsons are 6 and they didn't eat $19 between the 2 of them.
google avatar

Richard B.

Yelp
Great food & Great service! Had the baked stuffed haddock w / lobster sauce. It was Amazing!!! Our server was very professional, upon finishing our meal we stayed and chatted with our friends for quite a while and we were not rushed out. Definitely returning!

J B.

Yelp
I've been here many times and have never had bad food or poor service. Everything is clean and old - but the old is part of the charm. The building has been there in some form for a very long time, and seems to have gone through a lot of changes and additions. From the outside, I can't tell where I was sitting inside. I think there may be a building within a building. It's very confusing. Maybe don't look up at the roofline that doesn't match the outside or don't wonder why there are exterior windows indoors. Drinks are strong and delivered quickly. The food is consistently good. We have gone on busy days, less busy days, lunch, dinner and the food and service have always been the same no matter how busy the place seems. The Old Salt has become a regular place when we can't agree since we can both find something we'll like on the menu. Considering the prices at other restaurants not too far away, I feel like this place is a bargain. The check is always less than I expected it to be.

Yelp
We had dinner here because we were staying at the Inn. An outside table was a 30 minute wait. We were seated on a park bench table with an umbrella. The service was slow. The wait staff seemed overwhelmed. As the wind blew our glasses of water and silver ware went flying all over the place. The staff barely came by to refill waters. The haddock sandwich and haddock chowder are stood out as best parts of the meal. The lobster pie is essentially lobster with cream and breadcrumbs on top--it lacked flavor. All in all the slow service and seating made for a very unenjoyable meal.

Yelp
It's been some 30 odd years since I last visited The Old Salt. I'm just not a beach goer. But looking for a place to dine before a show at Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom, and remembering we enjoyed it all those decades ago, I made reservations. We arrived 15 minutes early and even though busy, we were led to our ready table. We were greeted by our server almost immediately. She offered warm rolls which we accepted while we looked over the menu. I started with a cup of their Lobster and Seafood Stew special. One bite and I was kicking myself I didn't order the bigger sized crock. Delicious!!!! I ordered the fish and chips for my entree. It was a handful of large fresh flakey fish nuggets, haddock I believe. They were nice and light, complimented with fresh tartar sauce. The accompanying french fries were fine, nothing special. When I was finished our server asked me if I wanted more fish. Apparently it is all the fish you can eat? I was stuffed and declined. The only negative, which they made right, was my wife's fried haddock sandwich. She opted for onion rings for a side. When delivered it looked great. There was a plastic cup filled with a white sauce which my wife assumed was tartar sauce. So she spread it on her fish, only to find out it was a horseradish sauce. There was no other sauce delivered, and with no prior notice, it was easy to understand her assumption. We pointed this mistake out to our server who immediately understood the problem and explained that the sauce is served with the onion rings. She then took the sandwich away and promised a new one would be made and with tartar sauce. Shortly afterwards a new sandwich arrived and my wife was happy. All in all we were very satisfied with the dinner and service. We will go back next time we take in another show at the Casino Ballroom

Yelp
Good food fun atmosphere. Sunday brunch is a bit expensive but the selection is worth it.

Yelp
Shark bucket is a good starter with some kick ass chili. Follow that with the steak tips and loaded mashed with homemade chips.. if your going to do it do it right! Wife got the baked haddock something or other and loved it as always. They have outdoor area with a tent and live music.. although there seems to be 20 min of songs then 20 minutes of missing artist? The singer just disappears for like 20-30 minutes then their back again. We have been 3 times in the last month and the same thing has happened each time.. not a big deal.
google avatar

JG L.

Yelp
Have been multiple times since the last time, eat in and takeout. It is always delicious and hot, even the takeout. I will continue to come here and want to try the brunch....
google avatar

Brad B.

Yelp
The food was awesome the service over the top and the place was a perfect place to hang out with friends and family

Jerry L.

Yelp
All very good. Once in a while, the chowder is not up to par, but all else is great. The service and ambiance is excellent. Plenty of parking. Definitely a place to try out. One note to add - when steamers are no in season, don't spend $25 on a small dish of microscopic clams.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place you decide you want to have a nice lunch comfortable in the lounge. Services is great. Food is good changing an item or two with your order. Doesn't seem to matter. Do you want to have lunch inside a bar in the afternoon before the weather changes in your sitting out on a sidewalk, go to the old salts
