My Favorite Airbnb: A New Orleans Apartment With Two Balconies | Condé Nast Traveler

"There is a yellow house in New Orleans—a pretty pile in Marigny (French Quarter-adjacent) that is home to my favorite Airbnb: a pied-à-terre on the building’s second floor with two balconies, ceilings higher than heaven, and a wealth of period hardware and finishes so fabulously abundant you'll remember them forever."

The room was rather on the small side with not much room to walk, although historic. It was clean and the bed was comfortable, with cool AC. We enjoyed the courtyard and swimming pool. It would have been nice to have a mini fridge and microwave in our room. Everyone at the front desk was helpful and accommodating. This hotel is haunted, and we experienced this for ourselves when our TV turned on by itself. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

What a great find on Esplanade! All of the staff were kind and helpful. The pool was relaxing and we could stay in late. Easy walking to Frenchman Street and the Quarter. Our rooms definitely did not look like the classic look I was expecting but they were still clean and comfortable. 104 was quite small, but had a large bathroom. 103 was larger with a tiny bathroom. 103 also had a high window leading to the lobby that let light in all night. If you need total darkness, this is not your room. But if you’re doing New Orleans right, that shouldn’t matter! You just need sleep and showers. Lamothe was a great place to recharge and prep for more adventures. I recommend it! Thank you again to the front desk crew for always being warm and welcoming.

What a Wonderful stay! The antique suite was beautiful. The bathroom was spacious and I liked the marble floors. It’s everything to be expected and more of an antique suite with two full size beds on the second floor. It was larger than the 1 bedroom apartment I lived in years ago. If these were small condos I’d love to live here permanently. (Just letting the viewers know the size is great!) The views of Esplanade are lovely at night. The hot water was nice and there was good water pressure. We parked at Clarke garage across town for $25 per night and then we payed an Uber $13 each way to and from the hotel so after those expenses, we realized we should have just used Lamothe House Hotel secured gated parking lot. The pool and courtyard are so peaceful. This seems to be a very laidback, peaceful hotel. No one was ever loud or rude in the courtyard. Housekeeping came twice and brought extra linens and toilet paper but also honored the do not disturb sign when it was up. Come and go as you please through the back gate and people seem to keep it quiet as they are passing by. There are not refrigerators in the Full two bed antique suite in the second floor so if you do anticipate having food or drinks, bring a cooler and place it on the marble bathroom floor (obviously not on the antique wood floors). Also there is no microwave in the antique suite with two Full beds. There is an ice machine downstairs in the lobby. There is a couch in the living area of the Full Antique Suite but no tv. the TV is in the bedroom. I’d expect most people to be out visiting in the city not watching tv in their living room area of their hotel. The room does have a coffee maker. Close proximity to Frenchmen and Decatur. Two blocks down from Bourbon. Best location in the French quarter if you ask me! Also on the more quiet side. Expect floors to creak, it’s an old house in New Orleans and you’re staying in an antique suite! The air works fine but I brought a box fan as I know what New Orleans weather can be like with the humidity coming indoors. Also as a comparison, I keep my house temp set on 67. I’m aware of this in advance so I prepare for these situations instead of complaining about a hotel on the internet. The air set on a nice temp of 72. Also, the pool was heated or just very warm and the hot tub was hot too. You will enjoy your stay and the proximity to Frenchmen, Decatur and Bourbon. Eat at Dat Dog on Frenchmen and try the $21 Ribeye at Turtle Bay. This hotel can sometimes be on the corner of parade routes if the parade comes down bourbon to Esplanade and then turns back on Royal. You’d be within a block of the corner of that route

Prime location to Frenchman street while having beautiful quiet property with great hot tub and pool. The pool area is so pretty. The employees were all so kind, upbeat, and knowledgeable I felt like I was in such good hands. Great housekeeping staff always had the room so clean with fresh towels every day. 10/10 recommend this hotel! I never leave hotel reviews but this one was worth it. Great value for what we paid. Check their hotel website they have deals directly on it.

Very walkable location! The pool was nice and refreshing after a long day of walking. Landscaping was beautiful. Bed was comfortable. My only negatives feedback is the room did not have space for luggage racks.

Yelp
This was such a gorgeous hotel to stay in. While it's not near the crazyness of Bourbon Street...it's not far either...only about a 10 minute walk! I booked this hotel off of Orbitz.com. Which means that my room preference may not be available upon check-in. I had booked a queen bed room. Upon check-in I was told that room wasn't available and we were going to be given a room with two full beds. We obviously didn't want that. Javi, who was checking us in, told us what else was available and offered to show us more rooms. She also said there's a bigger room, but it needs to be cleaned. She showed us 3 rooms and we decided on the bigger room. I felt bad that she would have to clean it, but she said it wouldn't take that long. So we left our stuff at the front and went to grab some grub, based on her recommendations. We were out for a bit and when we went back we found that she not only cleaned the bigger room but she also brought our bags as well. She also told us that we can stay in that room for the first night but she has upgraded us to an even bigger room for the rest of our stay! The bigger room was amazing! Queen bed, three TV's, and two couches (one in a separate room and one when you walk in) Plus all amenities...shampoo, conditioner, body wash, fridge, hair dryer, and iron and board. The bed was very comfy and the shower was nice and hot! Service by Javi was impeccable! The hotel is so cute. I don't understand any negative reviews on here. My boyfriend and I are already talking about staying here whenever we are back in New Orleans. 5+ stars all the way!

Yelp
Overall this was absolutely annoying experience. We wanted to love this hotel but the pool was filthy upon arrival. Looked like a swamp then it was closed the next two days of our stay. Fire alarms were going off at 7am!!! and then they out the day on our last day. Crew was very little help. NO ELEVATOR! and we were on the 3rd floor. AC was very low. You will sweat at night. I called Expedia for compensation as it was in the high 90's the whole time we were there and the main reason we chose the hotel was for the pool. Coffee maker was terrible and not clean enough. Under the bed I found a Bobby pin and under a tv a piece of gum. We will never return. This is a hostel at best!

Yelp
Lamothe House is situated on the outskirts of the French Quarter, and I enjoyed my stay here while visiting New Orleans. It fits the vintage 18th-19th Century style of many buildings in the area and is within walking distance of Lafitte's Blacksmith bar. The surrounding neighborhood is kind of quiet compared to the Quarter itself. The room I stayed in was really nice. I also enjoyed the pool outside. If you are looking for a smaller hotel off the beaten path, I'd definitely recommend Lamothe House.

Yelp
Well...I can only give this place two stars for the location and the folks sitting at the desk who tried to help a helpless situation. We arrived to a room with a shower that took about 30 minutes for warm water, THEN, it only trickled. We did our best, told the front desk, and were never called as promised. The next day, we had not electricity (the electricity was being worked on in the area?) from 8am-3pm (thankfully we read the slip of paper they gave us to know this...and were up and at 'em first thing) and as we left our room, they were jackhammering and working on the pool. That night, after another no call, we begged for a different room, and received a room with a much improved shower. We booked 5 nights, and it is beyond me why the management is not empowering the front office to simply move us immediately. (I could see on line that there were empty/available rooms). Finally, we never had coffee...the gal at the front desk gave my husband her personal 'pod' of coffee. Management-do better-give your front desk the confidence to made decisions and move and improve room assignments immediately. Finally, we had a mouse in our room, but this is to be expected in a building this old.

Yelp
First, the pros: Location! One minute walk to Frenchman Street. Nice staff. Comfortable bed. Cons: musty smell, kind of run down

Natalie R.

Yelp
I stayed in one of the satellite suites and it was nice! Didn't have any windows and I did hear some kind of tapping sound at night (old water pipes? bugs? idk), but it was clean and quiet -- not sure where all the negative reviews on here regarding those two things came from lol. We also loved the stray cats who hang out outside -- they're shy but eventually warm up to you if you stay long enough! Minus a star because the hot tub was kinda dirty and too cold to sit in :( But overall a nice stay in a great location. I got Covid during this trip and it was so bad that the doctor thinks I might have broken a rib from coughing, but this hotel helped to make the trip worth it :)

Yelp
The location of this hotel is great for exploring the French quarter, unfortunately I can't recommend it for multiple reasons. I went with a group of friends and none of us were happy with our rooms. After visiting each other's rooms, we noticed it's very much hit or miss. Some of them are nice while others are very small with no windows, mold in the shower, no space for a second nightstand or even a single chair. The person sleeping on the heater's side gets air blowing in the face during the night, not very pleasant. It seems that the entire place needs serious work to be up to the standards we expect when  booking a "Deluxe King room" as shown on the pictures. We also discovered some of us were put in a separate building, across from a street behind the hotel, didn't feel safe at night. Suite 408, located in that building behind the hotel was nice and spacious, but with so many stains all over the couch and chairs I didn't dare sit on it. The only positive about this stay was Jonathan at the reception very nice, and trying his best to  improve our stay. He's amazing! I would not go back, it was a huge disappointment!

Yelp
Very quaint, old fashioned hotel. Felt like a a larger bed and breakfast (without the breakfast unfortunately). Not very updated, but that's part of its charm. The lobby / checkin area is on the 2nd floor which is an interesting set up. I like that they lock the door for security, so you need to buzz in or have your room key when you get to the hotel. We were greeted by Justin when we checked in; he was super eager to tell us about New Orleans via map and make us feel welcome. He willingly fetched things we needed like extra soaps or towels when we requested. We got the 6 person suite which was very spacious. It was nice to have separate bedrooms for some privacy and reducing noise if the other room wants to watch TV. I will say we loved hearing music from Frenchman street a few blocks away while hanging out on our back balcony, but when we tried to fall asleep around 1am not so much lol. Luckily I was able to sleep through it but I know if my husband was on the trip this would have been difficult for him. We were nervous when we found out our suite only had 1 bathroom figuring showers would be difficult to work out amongst 5 of us, but it definitely helped they have a bathroom (toilet)downstairs if need be. I knew about the pool but had no idea they had a HOT TUB!!! until I got there. That was a pleasant surprise. Pool is not heated so if the temp is cooler it's a nice option. Another plus of this hotel is we found it very convenient to everything we intended to do. Only a few blocks from royal street, Frenchman, and bourbon street. We only needed a ride when going to/from airport and Mardi Gras world.

Yelp
Historic hotel located on dividing line between the French Quarter and the Faubourg Marigny neighborhoods. Built in 1840s by enslaved master craftsmen. More modern facilities added behind main house, along with pool and hot tub. Secure off-street parking. Courteous helpful staff, particularly Michael, who could not have been more thoughtful.

Yelp
Do not let them put you in one of their quote satellite rooms They are not part of hotel they have purchased wooden framed buildings Near the hotel but in s more dangerous area and claim them as hotel rooms Cheap lock on door really scary

Yelp
The absolute worst experience in all the years I traveled. I LOVE traveling. I don't require much. Just a clean bed & shower and a safe box for my belongings. THINGS THAT MAKE THIS PLACE THE WORST: 1. THE RATS IN THE WALLS FIGHTING 2. The fountain on constant running water through out the night. Sounds like someone was pissing in our toilet and the entire night. 3. Limited everything no simple small fridge. 4. Lock box did not work 5. The management office smells like a ashtray on the 2nd floor stinks 6. Coffee sucks it's brown water. 7. No toilet paper they gave us half a roll. 8. Bed squeaks 9. Moldy bathroom 10. Weird looking camera thing on the tv that we put a towel over just incase it's not built into the tv. It's something attached to the exterior. (Creepy) I don't like to share only negative things in reviews. The one positive I found is the building has a nice historical architecture. Short walking distance to the Ruby Slipper delicious breakfast. The guy at the desk in the evening was great. His name was Delvin he was kind and patient and moved us to a complete different section that did not have the giant rats fighting in the walls! Still a traumatic experience. Will NOT go back.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel, comfortable rooms, close to action on Frenchmen Street and close walk to French Quarter. At the front desk, Mikaya(sp?) Was amazing! Helped checked us in even we first arrived (early), gave us a map with some great recommendations, unprompted- she called a restaurant I mentioned we were heading to, to make sure they didn't have a dress code, called us when our room was ready- before check in time. Just so helpful. Our last day, we checked out and left our bags with her at the front desk while we walked around before our flight. When our flight got canceled, we called and she booked us a different room, was super helpful and gave us a great rate. Super friendly and amazing all around!!

Yelp
I arrived in New Orleans late one night around 10pm and found this gem of a place. The bed was super comfy and clean. There was a fountain echoing through the courtyard which made for a peaceful nights rest. The staff is very kind, professional and accommodating. I extended my stay an extra 3 nights. You can't beat the location. Walk to everything. I will definitely seek this place for future visits. Highly recommended

Yelp
Me and my friend stay at this hotel for a couple days, and we just love it! The people that works there are really friendly and they are willing to help you with whatever that you need! Very nice pool and perfect for your vacation in NOLA

Yelp
Love this hotel ! Friendly and attentive staff, beautiful grounds and close to absolutely everything, yet safe and quiet. We fell in love with the neighborhood and Frenchman street just a few feet from the back entrance of the hotel. Beautiful!

Yelp
Ok so I have to start off in saying that because I gave this review a 5 star DOES NOT mean it's a five star hotel!!! If that's what you are looking for, you will only be disappointed and be prepared to spend your life savings on a hotel room. Trust me - my friend and I looked for weeks to find a decently priced, nice hotel room in the French Quarter. My first impression of the hotel was an old bed and breakfast style home. I loved it. I was even more impressed when I checked in and noticed the multiple security cameras being viewed at the receptionist desk. I asked the receptionist if we had a room with a window since we requested one when we booked in April (6 months before!!!) and she said she wasn't sure. We get to our room and alas, no window. I was actually very annoyed since we booked our room 6 months in advance, but in actuality it is Bookit.com that is to blame. They told me in April that the hotel had been notified but in actuality, they did not notify the hotel until the morning I was checking in. In any case, we checked into our room and could not understand the negative reviews on TripAdvisor. In fact, everyone had been nice, the place was fine and very affordable, and we were located on the edge of the French Quarter in a very cute local neighborhood. Continental breakfast is VERY plain but the conversation and one big table make it very much a bed and breakfast. The only downside is that their site promotes a free afternoon sherry but when we asked the receptionist she said they stopped doing that "a long time ago" (two months before) The last night we actually had plumbing issues (I believe because of the rain and our long hair of us two girls) so we were put in another room - this one with a WINDOW! and the bottom line is... I don't care what all the reviews on Trip Advisor say.. the window room is not "better". In fact i don't really know what their issue is. The second room we got because it is in the main building is smaller, doesn't have the bathroom counter space and many other things that make it inferior to the (windowless) room we had the first three nights. The bad reviews on the hotel are completely unnecessary. It's a great old hotel (think bed and breakfast) on the outskirts off the French Quarter. But if you are looking for a five star hotel, look elsewhere. But don't take your hatred out on this hotel. :-)

Yelp
This hotel is definitely an experience. It takes you back in time. All of the staff was super friendly and helpful at all hours of the day and night. The gentleman from the front desk, Justin, was amazing. Super attentive. Always greeted us when we left or entered the hotel to make sure we were doing well. The rooms were equipped well- two complimentary waters and Keurig coffee makers with free coffee. The king beds were comfy and had many fluffy pillows. Great location- it is walking distance to Frenchmen and bourbon street. And near a great burger place.

Yelp
We came here in November 2021. Warning: There is no elevator in this hotel! Check-in is on the 2nd floor. Have someone stay with your bags downstairs in case your room is on the first level. Stairs curve slightly and can be a struggle with large luggage. This is a old hotel. Furnishings are old but in working condition. My room was on the 2nd floor. The 2nd floor deck is wood, so I could hear people walking by. The deadbolt did not work in my room or my friends room, but there is one of those latches you can use. My TV didn't work, didn't care since I didn't need to watch. Wi-Fi never worked either. Room was clean, but could have used a bit more. Pillows are not foam, so basically your head will sink in them. Bed was comfortable. Sample size shampoo/conditioner provided. Hairdryer and ironing and board in room. Shower flow good (your avg water saving pressure) and hot water availability good. Staff was extremely friendly. There's a coffee station by check-in (no cream, they provided powdered cream & your variety of sugar). Location: It is close to French Quarter BUT the action on Bourbon Street is at the other end! The walk back from the busy area back to the hotel was quite dark. I wouldn't recommend staying here if you aren't with others and when wondering about at night. Overall, it can be categorized as 3-star hotel for it's location, friendly staff, and avg accommodation.

Caroline V.

Yelp
This could be a nice place if they had staff that cared. Location is perfect. Stayed 5 nights at the end of February. The room cleaning is terrible with remnants of previous guests and grit on the floor. The showers are warm with a trickle at best The housekeeping is supposed to be daily but not done for 5 nights. Had to ask for clean towels even after expressing concern ! You can say something and just get "sorry". Tomorrow never comes! Old is okay but dirty is not! I would go back here if they just cleaned better as is a great location! Felt i paid for something which I got sub standard!

Yelp
I have stayed at this hotel several times and it's been one of those places I've wanted to keep for myself and not encourage others to go. I'm selfish like that, when I find something special. Anyway, here's me being a nicer person... This is a boutique hotel, which in this case, means older & small, which is what I prefer. Perfect location for me: *away from obnoxious partying on Bourbon *away from touristy places *literally around the corner from Frenchmen St *quiet & beautiful neighborhood of Marigny *5 min walk across the street to The Quarter *decent pool AND hot tub in a cozy typical FQ courtyard The "antique" rooms in the main house are opulent & beautiful. All four of the rooms are HUGE with hardwood floors. I've stayed in 3 other rooms besides the antique rooms in this hotel which are behind the main house in the courtyard. These rooms are newer and not as opulent, but still very nice & clean. The 2 rooms at the back of the courtyard are my favorite, both having 2 queen beds. I really like this family of hotels in the FQ area. I've stayed at one of their sister hotels, Inn on Ursulines, and it was lovely as well. *customer service is great *prices are fantastic, especially if you book a "last minute rate" or "pay in advance" rate. *they offer late check out if you ask *2 FREE bottled waters in the room. That's a nice plus when it's hot or you've been drinking and need to drink some water & forgot to buy some. One more added bonus is that you can hear the music from Frenchmen St while you're in the courtyard/pool area. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone that likes to stay near the partying on Bourbon, likes to be in the middle of the touristy shopping, likes big hotels with a spa and/or restaurant/room service, or finds historical buildings dirty, creaky, or uncomfortable, or doesn't appreciate Frenchmen St; but I don't have any friends like that anyway....

Yelp
This hotel ended being way more amazing than we were expecting. My family came to New Orleans for a family reunion and the Lamothe house accommodated all 12 of us and were so helpful! By the time we left (we stayed for 5 days) the staff felt like family. CRYSTAL literally was the best! By the time we left, we were calling her mama crystal. She literally went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. Javi and Jon were super awesome too! The whole staff was amazing! If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! Thank you you so much to the Lamothe house! Y'all made our trip unforgettable!

Yelp
I've wondered for several weeks how many stars to rank this hotel. I finally feel at peace rating it 3 stars. This hotel is kind of like a Bed and Breakfast. However, the only breakfast was a coffee maker and a bowl of old worn out fruit. Not very appealing. It's an old place with some additions. I stayed in the older area, which I've heard is the better area to stay. My room was one of the upper rooms overlooking the court yard and pool. Paper thin walls. (And I'm being kind). I noticed the day of check out that there were earplugs in the nightstand .....Hmmm.... Wonder why? There's no way to sleep in late here. .... Make sure you don't stay out too late if you need your Beauty Rest. Small bathroom and also kinda small room. Comfy bed though. The room was nice and clean. However, there's no desk or anyplace to use your computer or eat any munchie food except on the nice white comfy bed. The staff is a little odd which totally blends in with the ambience of the hotel. I heard the hotel was also haunted. I think we had a "guest" one afternoon when the room went from hot temperature to FREEZING temperature. The hotel is in the French Quarter close to the Farmers Market and Bourbon Street so it's in a good location. I felt very safe there. The outside was decorated nicely for Christmas. A TV show was being filmed one night in front of the hotel. I had a nice stay, even though it wasn't my usual favorite. I also got a lot of walking exercise which was nice since it was so close to Christmas. This hotel is ..... Make your own decision. Depends on what you're looking for. I usually stay more around Canal street. But this hotel was more centrally located to my needs during this trip. I may have to stay here again due to business. But it's not my regular. At least it was a nice comfy bed to sleep in. USE EARPLUGS IF YOU WANT TO SLEEP IN!

Yelp
I stayed in room 104. When me and my wife first got there we knew something was up. We always felt like someone was watching us. And often times I felt like I could see something in my peripheral then quickly disappear. It wasn't until our second night things got really spooky. My wife went to the car to grab her charger, and I was brushing my teeth. When I spit and went to look up I saw the dark outline of what I could only assume was a heavy set, big cheeked man. At that moment I saw the trumpet in his left hand. I turned, toothbrush in mouth and whispered "satchmo?" With a brassy trill the apparition disappeared in a puff of jazzy smoke, glitter, and the faint smell of the New Orleans river walk after midnight. After my toothbrush fell from my gaping mouth I came to my senses and ran to where the Trumpet King of the Crescent City had just manifested, but it was too late. He was gone. That's when I noticed something red dripping from under my pillow. With hesitation and wide eyes I reached for the pillow. Underneath was a steaming pile of red beans and rice. Jutting from the pile of creole cuisine was the tip of a letter. I dug it out and through the brown and red stains I read: "Hey there, Pops! Be sure to leave a nice helping of big dirty love in Orleans. Leave a nice Yelp review. It really helps the establishment. Red beans and ricely, Louis." Rb&R was delicious. 5/5 would stay again.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by this place. It is unique and if you are into the music scene this is perfect. You can sit on your porch and listen to the music allllllllll night. So if you don't want to be up all night it is a little close to Frenchman street so keep that in mind. If you are walking to bourbon st it is pretty close as well. Honestly it was a cool location. The rooms are nice and the staff were super great.

Yelp
Can I give this place 10 stars out of 5??? I would if I could. This place was everything that I was looking for - in a place to stay at, for my maiden trip to NOLA. And from what I just experienced, I doubt I will be looking somewhere, anywhere else for my next trip. Lamothe House easily surpassed all my expectations - not that I had a laundry list of them to begin with - very simple, hassle-free, laid back dude next door here :) So where should I begin? I will just pick a random one and take it from there... Location: A+ These folks have 4 properties in the quarter. And I am sure the other 3 have all the good aspects of this one too. But they definitely can't beat this location. Just outside of the FQ - on a rather quiet Esplanade Ave, the location couldn't have been any better. You cross the street and bang - you are in the madness of the FQ. But on this side, absolute peace and quiet. Very safe and very residential. Still walking distance to everything you need during your trip. Frenchmen St and the it's jazziness is on the back side. Best of both worlds yet not in the middle of the commotion. Just right. Property / Courtyard / Pool: A++ Kudos to the management for keeping the property so beautiful. A classic old NOLA building, so very well taken care of. There is history as soon as you walk through the front door, a long mirrored entrance, with old wooden stairs on either side that take you up, to meet the staff. Small but gorgeous courtyard, with again - a small but a clean little pool with a Jacuzzi. You need that much needed dip after a sweltering day in the muggy city. Enough tables / chairs / pool chairs to hang around and get some sun during the day, and chill with a few cocktails before the night-out. The lush greenery and the fragrance of the flowers - makes it quite relaxed and at times even romantic an atmosphere. Rooms: A+ I didn't get a chance to go into the newer building as I stayed in the old / main building. My room was very pretty. Everything seemed new. The bed, the linens, the storage, the bathroom with a stand-in shower, in room Keurig coffee maker, lights, fan, AC, the flat screen TV - I think I exhausted the inventory list and didn't forget a thing - I think! I never had a problem with anything throughout my stay. Couldn't have asked for anything more. And I was lucky enough to land probably the best room in the main building. And that was room #.... (You think!?!! Keeping it a secret so it doesn't become the most wanted room ever!!) Staff: A++ The kind of staff that makes you feel at home. That is exactly how I felt. Johnny and Erica - I got to interact with them the most - probably because of my timing / their shift schedule. They both were so very kind and helpful in making such great recommendations for food, late night eats, and more. The day time manager - Nikki (I hope I got the name right) - sweetest person ever. Thank you all so much for everything - from the very bottom of my heart... [awe - can I sing a Whitney Houston song now - that - "so emotional baby" one...? :o) ] For my first time here, I am so glad you all helped a great deal in making it such a memorable one. Thanks again! In summary - if you are looking for a place that feels like home, and not your run of the mill chain hotel room, you can absolutely trust these folks. The great thing being, they have 4 options to choose from. I bet - LHH would be my preference any day - the next time I fly down to the big easy - hopefully sooner than later.

Yelp
What a fabulous find in NOLA! I was originally going to stay in a chain hotel but decided against it once I came across this gem during my hotel research! What I loved about the Lamothe House was the vibe - you get the amenities of a chain hotel but the atmosphere of a quirky NOLA home - the exact thing I was looking for. I stayed in a king suite which was immaculate. Easy access to Frenchman, Decatur and Bourbon Streets. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was clean and no traces of past guests anywhere in the room. Check-in and check-out was a breeze. Although you have to pay for parking ($30 a day), it was well worth the money and appeared to be a bargain based on the nightly rates in public garages and other hotels. An added bonus was being able to hear the live music from Frenchman Street in the room at a distance. Totally captured the NOLA vibe I was hoping for!

Yelp
I arrived in the city late one around 10pm and found this gem of a place. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Gorgeous historic hotel. It's amazingly cozy, and the staff is very kind and helpful. I began my trip at this hotel, and to cut down on costs, moved to a hostel for the weekend. After staying here for 2 days, I went ahead and cancelled the hostel and came back. Right around the corner from Frenchmen, I could hear music in the courtyard at night, but the rooms were quiet and peaceful.... sort of. I first stayed in room 106, with no issues whatsoever. It was very clean, there was a keurig in the room and bottled water, clean bathroom and linens, king size bed. It is on the lower floor, the door walks out to the pool and there is a little seating area outside, which was great. Then I moved up to room 210, on the second floor, that's where things got interesting. The room was just as nice, a little bigger than the first, but no outdoor seating area, but it's right next to the stairs down to the pool, and there was a nice little table and chair inside. The floor was slanted and the drawers kept opening, which was funny. It was very charming to stand out on the balcony at night. Now I was very tired by the time I got there, but I had a very eerie feeling the whole time. I swear I kept seeing things but attributed it to being so tired. I went to step out on the balcony and when I opened the door, it bumped something behind it. I looked to see what was there, and there was nothing there, but it definitely wouldn't open, like it was being pushed closed from the other side. Once I looked I opened the door again and it opened just fine. It kinda freaked me out, but I knew there were some stories about this old place. But a little old ghost wouldn't keep me from coming back and enjoying this great hotel. The prices are really fair considering the location, history, and the pool and hot tub, which is a nice bonus when you're walking around the city all day.

Yelp
To me, New Orleans has always been synonymous with rich history and culture. The Creoles, in particular, had always held my fascination since I found out about New Orleans as a little girl in the Philippines. So I gladly jumped at the chance to stay at a Creole mansion when I found a good deal. Lamothe House is old. The stairs are rickety and the furnishings are antiques. I loved it! It was quite easy for me to imagine the Lamothes' comings and goings from over a hundred years ago -- how they must have entertained their callers, how they must have tried to cool off during humid days out in the courtyard, and etc. (For you ghost lovers out there, it is easy to imagine this place being haunted as well.) With that said, do not expect a cookie cutter hotel kind of experience. The bathroom had seen better days but was still well-suited to its purposes. The mattress was a bit firm, but I happen to like sleeping on firm mattresses. The TV in the room is nothing fancy (but hey, why would it matter? Shame on you if you stayed in your room long enough to watch TV!). The room I got was on the second floor, and I loved how I had a little balcony overlooking the fountain. It is on the tiny side if you would compare it to chain hotels but is seriously just the same size as the guest bedroom in my house, making it more than acceptable. The staff were all pleasant, friendly, and helpful. They monitor who comes in and out so it felt safe. What I also like about this place is that it is located at Esplanade, which means the French Quarter and Frenchmen Street are very easily accessible. It is near most of the action you would want to be in but it is still quiet, which is very important if you are planning to catch some sleep (no sarcasm there, I can't blame people if they decide to do without sleeping in New Orleans). I also think that it is cool that they have two gates: one that leads out to Esplanade and to the French Quarter, and one that leads out to Kerlerec Street and to Frenchmen. These two gates could prove to be very useful when you meet someone while gallivanting about in Frenchmen Street and need to shake him off: enter through the Kerlerec gate then go back out through the Esplanade gate (not saying that this happened to me or anything...). Anyway, I recommend this hotel. It is charming and uniquely New Orleans. Creole mansions turned bed-and-breakfasts are the way to go to feel like you're really in this historic and cultural city.

Yelp
This hotel was in the perfect location. It was close enough to the French Quarter that it was in walking distance, but far enough off that the neighborhood was quiet. I also felt safe walking and I felt very secure at the hotel because they had cameras and a locked main entrance. The rooms were old, but that was expected based on the age of the building. The only problem with the older age was the shower, with it's slower draining and three knobs to turn the water on. The bed was adequate, it was a full so sleeping arrangements were a little tight. If you were tall, the bed might be a little small. The bed was definitely creaky whenever you moved and a little stiff, but otherwise it was fine. I was usually so tired from walking all day that I was able to sleep right away. The continental breakfast is oatmeal, cereal and doughnuts, but if you want a doughnut show up early because they go fast. We never made it to the pool, but it seemed nice. The pool was pretty warm, and the jacuzzi was attached to it...so I don't how much hotter the jacuzzi got then the pool. When we booked the hotel, it promised an afternoon sherry, but when we got there the sherry promotion was no longer in existence which was a disappointment, but not a deal breaker. I don't think I would stay here in the hot summer months of July and August because I think the air conditioning isn't modern enough to handle the extreme humidity...in those months I would stick with the more modern hotels like Embassy Suites. Every other month of the year I would stay here again, but hopefully secure a room with a queen or king bed, because the full bed is just not fun for 2 people.

Yelp
We stayed at here back in April. Our experience was AMAZING!!! Justin was a gem and everyone was so friendly. It is the perfect location to get to shops, restaurants and sightseeing. We were able to explore the hotel with Justin and he recommended great spots to eat and relax. Thank you to everyone at the Lamothe you gave us an amazing experience. The rooms were clean and cozy. We loved sitting outside on the balcony our last night having coffee and dessert. We will definitely be back!!!

Yelp
Great place to stay. Loved the creepy charm since it's listed in the haunted hotels directory. Staff was extremely friendly and the rooms were great. We stayed in the guest house and it was perfect. I will definitely stay here again. Close to Frenchman street and far enough away from Bourbon St. so you can actually sleep at night if you choose to do so.

Yelp
The Lamothe House Hotel was the perfect place to stay during our New Orleans getaway. This quaint and unique hotel really made you feel like you were a resident. You could fall out the front door and head down Bourbon Street to partake in all of the action, or fall out the backdoor and head to Frenchman Street and party with the locals! The towels were extremely soft and bedding was fantastic! My husband and I spent more time sleeping than we had intended because it was just so comfy. The staff were extremely friendly and personable. Upon check out they were nice enough to hold our bags so we could grab a bite to eat at French Toast. I couldn't recommend this place more! It was so easy to stop back at our room midday because it was a short walk to get there from the French Quarter. I love love love this place. My husband and I will surely be back!!!

Yelp
If you are visiting New Orleans and looking for a place to stay in one of the many historic hotels, give the Lamothe House Hotel a go. It is within walking distance from all the sights in the French Quarter plus it is good to walk off your buzz. The building is said to be haunted. I stood here with a friend of mine after a 5 day cruise on Carnival. We ended up staying in a suite on the first floor. It has 2 queen size beds, one bathroom and shower, antique furniture, pictures, a coat rack, and let us say that every night we stood there which was only 2 nights. It sounded like someone was taking a shower. I one night woke up thinking she was showering and it wasn't here and the other night she thought it was me. It wasn't scary but it was a but strange. There is not a breakfast in the morning but a few fruits and bottled water. The staff here is very friendly and they have an outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. We were here in June and if you swim at night, please beware of the mosquitos. They had a feast on me with just my legs in the pool. If you come to a city with a lot of history, you should come stay and support the local businesses. Pictures to follow.

Yelp
Upon checking in late Saturday night I was provided a room at the far end of the property that I came to learn was not in top condition and should not have been rented to guests. Besides from peeling paint, what appeared to be developing mold, and missing grout, I discovered that the bathroom door to the room could not be closed; not that it would not lock, but would not close at all. As it was after midnight by the time I made these discoveries, I opted to contact the desk in the morning for remedial measures to be taken. The next morning around 8:40am I contacted Michael at the desk who told me that he would get back in touch with me regarding my issues. I waited over four hours and did not hear back from Michael. I contacted the hotel through the Expedia application. Michael immediately called me back and started to berate me for not allowing him enough time to address the concern. He told me that he was not obligated to do anything for me as I was staying on a third party reservation. To be honest, Michael's demeanor over the phone was purely unacceptable. I ended up contacting an Expedia representative who contacted the hotel. I ended up checking out of the property and moving to a hotel, The Crown Plaza, on Canal Street. I found the accommodations to be more inviting and the service more in line with what one would expect from a hospitality establishment. Word of advice, take a hard pass on this property and its surly staff.

Yelp
Good location, very close to lots of great places to eat. Its kinda of noisy though. You will hear every footstep on the staircase and every door shut as well as the jazz band playing in the streets. We booked room 119, but they moved us to 107 which is much smaller and not very comfortable. Room was cold and damp and The keurig coffee maker was filthy. Next time I will stay somewhere else

Yelp
Stayed here for a long weekend and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Super comfortable bed, charming pool/garden area and friendly staff, plus they had chickory coffee! One complaint though, there was mold in the shower/bathroom but other than that I would stay there again!

Yelp
I'm never one to leave reviews. Rarely and they are usually A+ treatments but I waited almost 2 weeks now for my situation to be resolved and it hasn't. First of all, I'm local. Not a tourist. I had my 49th birthday 2 weeks ago and I chose to stay at Lamothe House for my annual "private birthday party" with a few close friends. Who are also all local. We are adults. Quiet. Not raging, young, out of towners. I try to support local, smaller, boutique hotels every year for my birthday with friends. I rented out the Carriage House that slept 8. I had about 5-8 friends coming. One spent the night. And I want my friends to feel comfortable and have a good time. I arrived at 3:30pm. 30 minutes after normal check in time. I went to the front desk, where the person on duty was yelling at someone on the phone about "the room not being cleaned. And the maid left without doing her job. And that it wasn't their responsibility to clean the room now, and leave the front desk at check in time." Which, partly I do agree. Front desk attendee was also dropping "F Bombs" the entire time on the phone in front of me and another guest. Unprofessional. They hung up the phone and I told them I was checking in. Once I mentioned the Carriage House, they explained that it was my room that wasn't cleaned. And that they would need 30 minutes to clean it. Now, I was already 30 mins late. With my guests getting ready to arrive any second for my birthday. I wasn't happy, but there was nothing I could do. I did get comped on the hotel parking and was told I would get late checkout for free at Noon. (Which was not documented; and I got a call at 11:03am next morning to "check out"). I had to lug everything up the stairs myself to the Carriage House while it was being cleaned. Once room was cleaned and friends arrived, they wanted to swim. Pool was cold and dirty. I did know it was not heated, but in New Orleans; it's so hot here all the time, I figured on a sunny day it would still be luke warm. Wrong. So we tried the hot tub. Cold as well. I called front desk. They mentioned they could "turn it on"; but we had to get in it ASAP and let me know immediately when we left it. Apparently they had a guest that complains when it's on because it's loud. First of all, you're a guest; so don't complain when people are using the amenities. And if it bothered this guest so much, she should have been moved to a different room. Needless to say, the hot tub never heated up. So we went up to my room. There are 3 TVs in the carriage house. One didn't work. One was stuck on one channel. And the 3rd worked, but was stuck in Spanish. So after the rude call to check out an hour early because it wasn't documented, I left. I'd like to say I paid almost $400 for this place. I have paid HALF that for other boutique hotels that were cleaned, heated pool and heated hot tub and no front desk person complaining. I emailed the Manager, Jon, multiple times. I finally got ONE email about 5-6 days ago that stated it was referred to Brenda. And I've never heard back. I was asking for a partial refund. Until things are resolved, my 2 star review will be it.

Yelp
Excellent customer service and wonderfully kind and helpful staff. Beautiful and unique grounds and historic artwork everywhere. So why the 3 stars? Though the room itself was very clean, it was very small, the bed was pretty uncomfortable and I got locked in the bathroom (laughter turned to panic which turned back to laughter when I finally got out). For the price ($112 after tax with AAA discount) I guess you get what you pay for. But it wasn't too comfortable and I think I'll opt to pay a little more next time for a nicer hotel. Location was pretty good. About a 10 minute walk to the main part of the French quarter, so it was quiet where we were. They also had a free "continental" breakfast that included some stale looking pastries, several varieties of cereal and coffee and juice.

Yelp
This hotel was absolutely amazing! Our room was amazing, the service was fantastic. The location was perfect. If I could, I would live there! We stayed on the 1st floor. We had two full size beds, very comfortable. You could hear the people walking around upstairs but that's what you would expect sleeping in a house over 150 years old. I would highly recommend staying here if you enjoy a nice quite beautiful hotel.

Yelp
We've stayed here several times over the last couple years and each times is as great as the last. The location is perfect for any and all forms of transportation. Especially if you wish to walk around the French Quarter or utilize the street cars. The Lamothe Inn is a beautiful property and has a wonderful staff.

Yelp
This hotel could not be more charming and quaint. The lobby and courtyard are absolutely gorgeous. It's reeks of class and old school New Orleans charm. The lobby is a stunning! You have to see it to believe it. The court yard has a beautiful Koi pond with fish and frog accents. The awesome pool and hot tub are right outside your door. It's perfect! The rooms are clean and comfortable. It's located near awesome shops and food. In short Lamothe house hotel is the best!!! It's a real taste of New Orleans while still being modern and comfortable.

Yelp
Lamothe House Hotel is charming and an affordable way to check out New Orleans. If you want a unique experience that is affordable, this is a good choice. Justin is awesome and provides excellent customer service. The day I checked in - they first assigned me to a room right by the street with the gate and being a light sleeper, I knew that I wouldn't be able to sleep well so I asked if they could change my room to a quieter area and Justin was very kind about changing it. Unfortunately, I had to wait about 1-2 hours for the entire process because they only really have one person working there so he has to check people in/out on top of everything else. I was waiting outside with my humongous luggage for awhile so I wasn't really mobile and couldn't walk to the other building. Justin came back but the key didn't work for the second room so I had to wait again for him to come back, he tried to fix it, but it didn't work. So I had to wait again for him to find another room, which took awhile. Justin did his best but they should have more than one person working there. There are a lot of stray cats by the second building and I had to pass them in a super dark area (an outdoor light or two would have been nice, especially as a woman since the second building doesn't have a locked up gate) whenever I had to walk to the side of the building to my room and it smelled of cat urine. There was also something biting my feet and legs in the hotel room every night. The bathroom was super tiny so it would've been nice if there was a tad bit more counter space. The closet is also super small so don't expect to be able to hang up too much. The tv worked though and there was cable. I did appreciate the two free water bottles and the free coffee. Everyone who worked there was friendly. But given what happened, I don't think I'll be staying there because there were just too many inconveniences. The walls are really thin and since I am a light sleeper, it was challenging at times.
