Lan Kwai Fong Hotel @ Kau U Fong

"How did it strike you on arrival? The small yet functional lobby of the Lan Kwai Fong Hotel @ Kau U Fong lacks the grandeur of a luxury hotel, but don’t let that you put you off. Look instead to the smiling staff behind the gold-painted reception counter and the Chinese art adorning the walls. This boutique hotel in the fashionable Gough Street neighborhood has character. Nice. What’s the crowd like? We’ve seen guests from all ages and all walks of life here. But it's a favorite with international couples and business travelers looking for a good-value hotel in a convenient location. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. After riding up the narrow elevator to the 27th floor, we found our Deluxe Harbour View Room. As soon as we stepped inside, we were drawn to the enormous windows and window seat. At about 355 square feet, the room felt small but manageable for two people. We thought the carpet and furniture could use some refurbishing, but loved the traditional Chinese design—pretty latticed wood frames, deep red pillows, jade accents. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?The queen-size bed was comfortable for two, and we liked the feel of the sheets and the pillows. Some rooms have double beds, rather than queen, so check before booking if you like to stretch out. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? On a table by the window, we found a set of retro teapots in turquoise and yellow. They’re a typical Hong Kong style that we saw everywhere once we started exploring the city’s cha chaan teng cafes and outdoor dai pai dong restaurants. Another nice touch is the hand-drawn travel guidebook, which features the latest news from around the neigbhorhood. If you're wondering what to eat, drink or buy... look no further. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. The spa-like gray stone bathroom has a bamboo rack for towels, a handsome circular sink, big mirror, shower and bathtub. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?In addition to decent free Wi-Fi, we also found a complimentary smartphone in the room. Loaded with 4G data and a hotspot for tethering, the phone made exploring Hong Kong much easier. Room service: Worth it?Room service is available but it will be a cramped affair. We’d recommend eating at the hotel’s Chinese restaurant downstairs or going out for dinner. You can also get all-day coffee and snacks at the fourth-floor Breeze Lounge, and complimentary wine on the lounge terrace from 5-8 p.m. every evening. Even better, you're in easy walking distance of excellent Hong Kong restaurants. Around the corner, find Ronin (a speakeasy-esque Japanese restaurant), The Chairman (for classic Cantonese) and Kau Kee (a popular noodle and beef brisket spot always with a line out the door). Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. There is a small gym, the pretty Breeze Lounge, and Michelin-starred Celebrity Cuisine (a classic Chinese restaurant). But you won’t find a bar, spa, or parking. It’s also worth noting that the Gough Street area is narrow and hilly—those with mobility issues will likely want to book elsewhere. As for services, the hotel offers babysitting, complimentary shoe shines, express check-out, and luggage storage. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?Breakfast was included in our stay, but the restaurant was so crowded in the morning that we had to share a table with other guests. We didn't think we were up for small talk, but we ended up meeting a fascinating couple from England. All's well that ends well. Bottom line: worth it, and why?Lan Kwai Fong Hotel sits in one of Hong Kong’s top neighborhoods, surrounded by cool coffee shops and a melange of restaurants. The convenient location might be its best feature, followed by harbor-view rooms, classic Chinese design, and generous complimentary perks." - Kate Springer

Lan Kwai Fong Hotel @ Kau U Fong (Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Like both London and New York, Hong Kong’s got its own SoHo — the neighborhood south of Hollywood Road in Central is one of the city’s most vibrant dining and nightlife districts. Lan Kwai Fong Hotel stands just steps away from this bustling scene, and its rooms lean in to the romance, with décor inspired by classic Chinese interiors. It’s a fine home base for exploring the neighborhood, but it’s also something of a destination unto itself — it’s got a lounge with a lively outdoor terrace, and the restaurant, Aap Ba Din, is a local favorite." - Tablet Hotels

Overall a pleasant stay. Breakfast was adequate. High standard of cleanliness in hotel. Only negative was refusal to provide paper steeet map. As EU tourists without internet access that made it difficult for us to find our way around until we purchased a map.

This hotel locates about 15 away from Hong Kong station by walk via IFC(international financial center) and outdoor/hillside escalators. This hotel locates in downtown area, so it was easy to walk to famous Yum Cha/Dim Sum restaurants and historical/cultural places such as Tai Kwun. I felt staffs kept the hotel clean, their hospitality was very nice, and the price was economical. Roads around this hotel are narrow and you might have difficulties to find where the hotel is, so please take note that you turn left of the corner of lin heung lang restaurants. You will find this hotel on your right side.

I had a layover flight in Hong Kong so I booked this place very very late on Agoda.com, and when I came to the hotel at 1:00am to check in, Mr. Sam Yuen told me that was no possible. I asked him why and he said I should've booked it from the 28-29 instead of 29-30 even though at the time I booked the hotel, it was already 12:30am on September 29! The option wasn't even there and he said "if the option wasn't there that means all the rooms are booked" so I asked him if all the rooms were booked specifically right now (it was now 1:10am) and and he said no. Like what?? He ended up forcing me to pay 116$ for another room for the night so I didn't sleep outside like a homeless person. I do not recommend this place to anyone, terrible service from the minute I walked in.

I just wanna say a massive thank you to the front desk of the hotel: JoJo, Joanna and Fluto, we’re outstanding in helping me to locate my iPhone, which I had left in the taxi that had dropped me off at the hotel.|They helped me immensely because I was in a complete panic and it was their quick thinking by dialing my phone number and using their own personal phone to help me out was amazing.| They talk to the person who had my iPhone, then they arrange for a taxi to take me to my phone.|I was so well looked after and I highly recommend this hotel to anyone.|The Staff are absolutely wonderful and their service was Outstanding ❣️❣️❣️

Google
Be careful... they charge accommodation tax even if you have paid it already on your online booking. That is fraud!! I confronted the MGR, I told him I was going to report it to the Hong Kong Tax. He paid me back immediately. They have crooked and fraudulent practices. Don't stay there, no water no toothbrush.

Yelp
Great location. Great service. Room had a lot of personal touches. But expensive, but paying for the location. Highly doubt if any one the rooms have any views if the harbour because of the multiple high rise buildings over the years.

Yelp
It was a nice hotel in a convenient-ish location... Although it was a struggle when arriving the first day... if you plan on walking over from either of the closest subway stations with your luggage, be prepared to have to lug them up several unfriendly flights of stairs. Or be smarter than I and call a taxi. Disclaimer that I would find it difficult to give a high rating to any hotel just because I'm a foreigner and the tiny squished space really bothered me (but is expected around all of HK). The smartphone they offer you for free helped SO MUCH in our stay there-- you can even hotspot off of it for an entire day and be fine. so that was pretty amazing

Yelp
Clean and cozy. Staff is English capable. The rooms' decor mimics that of a traditional Chinese home complete with wood and bamboo detailing. Colored glass adorns the newly refurbished bathrooms. Perched along a steep one-way road, the property can be slightly difficult to access via taxi. The nearest MTR stations are Shengwan (Upper Central) just 5 minutes walk north and Central 8 minutes hike east. Along the way are shopping opportunities aplenty. Loads of bars and eats (both formal and informal) are found heading uphill towards Mid-Levels, an area popular with young white collar types and western expats. Going further east is Lan Kwai Fong, nightlife central.

Yelp
I would say it's ok...not to be impressed for sure. Rooms are small, well equipped even if my shower doesn't work properly. The staff is nice and available. Breakfast is definitely poor: not enough table and very few choices of food. If you are in rush you won't even get your coffee. Let's be positive and give 3 stars, but the great hotels are different!

Yelp
Convenient location, lots of restaurants and bars nearby. The hotel has decent size rooms, and tub in bathroom, although the tub is bit small. Staff is very friendly.

Yelp
Great location. Very small room. I made a reservation for a City/Harbour view but I did not get it. On a very steep street, so be prepared to hike. Wine is served on veranda each day.

Yelp
The hotel view of this hotel is amazing. Customer service is excellent. Small room but enough for a shortime traveller.

Yelp
My second visit. Great location with good value. Very good rooms nothing negative at all only positives. Close to Sheung Wan metro station. Would definitely stay again.
