My husband and I recently retraced my grandfather's path through Germany (he was a POW in WWII). One of the old Stalags was in this area. Though the reason for travel was not so lighthearted, our stay in Neuzelle was a pleasant surprise. This hotel is right across a pretty little pond from an ancient abbey (it's received a Baroque face lift, so it looks newer than it is). The staff here are very friendly, especially a woman who works in the mornings on weekends - she and her colleagues made us feel very welcome. And the rooms, though simple, are clean and cozy. The bathroom is HUGE compared to most European hotels. A window in the bathroom looked across the pond toward the abbey - we spent a few minutes just standing there admiring the view. The restaurant was decent and certainly convenient. And free parking! Definitely a plus.||||The only quibble I had was that the bathtub/shower had a shower curtain rather than a sliding door, and the curtain was made of the kind of light fabric that gets sucked in by the air while you're showering. Hardly a reason to avoid the hotel.||||Anyway, we had such a nice time here that we decided to extend our stay from one night to two so we could enjoy the abbey and the surrounding countryside. That's probably the highest recommendation for a hotel!
